I've instaled Handcet SMS and uninstalled default SMS application, is there a way to change Handcent SMS name to, let's say MSG and ico to default one?
(More i care about name)
Desktop Visualizer app from Market. From the Homescreen where you want the shortcut just open DV, select an app for the shortcut to open, name it, and select an Icon to use. (You can select another app to use it's icon).
Perfect for what you need.
Some Launchers also allow you to edit shortcuts.

Searched all over the net but couldn't find this.
A widget that will show custom text and act as a shortcut to app. Similar to Minimal Text for battery/time/date.
Text widget act as a label not shortcut.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You can use Desktop Visualizer. It is a widget that when tapped on, will launch the app or shortcut chosen by the user. The icon, also chosen by the user, is an image file.
You can just create an image file with the text you want and then link it the app you want.
Thanks for the reply.
I did use Desktop visualizer but it was pain to set image sizes correctly for my 5x7 (columns, rows) screen. and if I wanted to change the layout I would again have to change image sizes. But other than that it is a cool and powerful app.

Minimal text has a new update and now you can have a custom text and also open an app when you tap it.

Tried but can't figure it out. If you have two dialer app and tap the phone shortcut on Launcher Pro dock, it'll ask you to pick one dialer to launch. If I set one as default dialer app, then the default app will be launched when I tap the shortcut.
How do I add similar shortcuts for other apps? For example, I'd like to add a shortcut for messaging that will ask me which one to launch if I have two messaging apps but have not set the default. After I set the default messaging app, the shortcut will launch it when tapped.
Thanks!

Long press one of your shortcuts or one of the plus signs in the hidden dock and hit change shortcut, then select applications and choose your app. then hit default icon.
If you want the shortcut on your home screen, long press and hit shortcuts... then the same as above. Doing it this way won't ask you for a default because you are choosing the app you want for that shortcut, not sure there is a way to do it like your asking.
Thanks, but this is not what I want. I want to launch the default app, not a specific app.
The phone shortcut has the behavior I want.

Have you tried going to Settings/Applications, find the app you want, select it, the scroll down and use the Reset Default or Clear Default option?
That should make it ask you next time you try to use one of the similar apps which you want to use and the option to make it default.
So i found the thread with all the icons in the world and got some i would like to use for my TF.
I have been able to use them on the folders i created with folder organizer.
Butttttt.. i have not been able to find a way to change the icons/create icons for installed apps.
I tried anycut and desktop visualizer but they make the icons smaller and have different font.
on my phone i used to use shortercut i believe but this is not available for tablets.
so how could i get this done?
any suggestions?
Thanks.
Folder Organizer can do it. Go to apps, select the app you want to change, select icon.

that only changes the icons you see in the folders of folder organizer doesnt it?
it doesnt let you change them and see them that way on the home screen.
You can change an icon for any app you place on the home screen so long as you use Folder Organizer to do it.
Go into Folder Organizer select your app and change it's icon to one you specify.
Next go to add an item to the home screen and go to more and select Folder Organizer Item.
Next select apps and select the app that you changed the icon to.
There you go, you should now have a custom iconed app on your home screen.
w00t, your right.. awesome!
Just what i wanted.
Thanks..
Glad you got it working. Incidentally, you can also change icons with ADWLauncher EX just in case your interested.
Cheers...
When I want to permanently change an icon (well not permanently since it can be undone) I use apk edit. Just type it in the search bar and it should pop up. Or you can just apply them with a launchers such as Go Launcher, Launcher Pro, and ADW

A large number of apps allow you to launch an application, but many of them don't let you select a shortcut. In my case, I want to launch a Folder Organizer folder shortcut.
Is there any way to "wrap" an Folder Organizer folder shortcut into an application?
Ideally, I'd want the app to prompt you for an icon & a shortcut & make an app out of it, but hard-coding the icon & shortcut would work for me as well.
If it doesn't exist, anyone I can beg/bribe to write such an app (even if hard-coded) ?
Failing this approach, anyone know an app that will let me fire a shortcut from the home or search button? Might even go way back to Power Strip.
Hi,
Is there any (easy) way to create/install shortcuts in the app-drawer?
That way I can create folders with apps, shortcuts to webpages, shortcut to a emailaccounts, shortcut to a contact.
I'm using SSLauncher as launcher, it can be customized in many ways
- It has a application page (app drawer) that supports folders
- Also application group pages (then you can choose apps from app drawer).
BUT i can't use shortcuts on this pages.
Workaround:
I can create shortcuts with Tasker and then install them as an app but that is much work...
I've searched arround but didn't find any answer (only programs to make shortcuts to homepages).
THANKS!
