So I have installed up all drivers and apparently unlocked the bootloader, I have a Gem - 702l running 5.0.1, it isn't letting me flash fastboot twrp so I am unable to root, very frustrating! Please can someone help? There must be a way! I know what I am doing but feeling a little comfused! Thank you

Ok so a bit of background on the hardware I am using a y300 and have the bootloader unlocked and the phone rooted. I have done so in hopes of installing a custom rom (slim kat probably) but the custom recoveries just don't want to work on this phone! I have installed clockword and TWRP (which I have installed, in-app, by img since it refuses to download from the internet?) but yet whenever I go to recovery, even from within these apps I am in what looks like a stock android recovery and cannot install my rom (says installation aborted or something similar). I have granted root access on both and am pulling my hair out at this stage. I have experience with Galaxy's installing custom ROM's so I am not a total novice but this has stumped me, anyone able to offer any advice?
Thank you in advance!
When root is not properly installed, a custom recovery gets overwritten at boot with the stock recovery. This may the issue you are having!
I'd reccomend asking in this thread here [Guide] Huawei Ascend Y300 Unlock & Root
Some of the users with the same phone, Y300, may be able to help you!

Thank you very much Sir, you where correct in your assumption that the root went wrong somewhere. You have literally made my day, I cannot thank you enough!
I just bought this tablet and it seems to have updated itself overnight (that or my kid did it) I want to root it , but it says it's running 5.0.1 now.. if it's possible, could someone walk me through this? I've been reading thru the various root threads, and having no luck-I'm on Ubuntu latest and have adb and fastboot installed..anyone feel like helping me out?

I did the above but with a slight change. I just booted CWM instead of flashing it so till running stock recovery but rooted.
I did this from 5.0.1 after unlocking the bootloader which was a piece of cake. There is a great guide on this forum.
I'm new to all of this and I'm trying to figure out how to root my alcatel idol 3 and where to start. I'm trying to unlock my hotspot and I'm using cricket as the carrier. Any advice would help. Thanks in advance.
What rom is on the phone?
Where do I find which rom I have?
Go settings and about. If you're running Marshmallow, you'll have to downgrade to Lollipop, flash or temporarily boot TWRP, and flash supersu from TWRP.
Thanks for the steps I need to take. It'll get me pointed in the right direction

Hey guys,
Got a Z3 with locked BL, decided recently I wanted to root the phone so followed the downgrade method, installed TWRP, installed 6.0.1 using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/stock-marshmallow-6-0-1-build-23-5-0-t3357509
That should have rooted the device and installed MM. MM seems to work ok but ES file explorer says there is no root. Also my TWRP recovery isn't working due to this problem (probably): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66232031&postcount=328
I'm a bit new to this but I can't seem to fix the TWRP problem without root access and I can't get root access without a custom recovery? I have Flashtool and tried to follow this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66232031&postcount=328
But I'm not sure how I'm meant to flash the required zips. Any help would be much appreciated, step by step would be a bonus xoxo

Flashed recroot before reboot?
Take a look here

Thanks, presuming I'd need to downgrade and root again. Trying to avoid that if possible...

I don't see any errors.
I literally see "OKAY" and "finished".
What's the problem?
Reboot into recovery. You should see TWRP.
Thanks , the part that puzzled me was the "variable not supported!" followed by that max download size being less than the size of the TWRP image?
I dont have the phone with me, i will try it Wednesday when I get back to my moms, I really appreciate the help.
