I'm new to all of this and I'm trying to figure out how to root my alcatel idol 3 and where to start. I'm trying to unlock my hotspot and I'm using cricket as the carrier. Any advice would help. Thanks in advance.
What rom is on the phone?
Where do I find which rom I have?
Go settings and about. If you're running Marshmallow, you'll have to downgrade to Lollipop, flash or temporarily boot TWRP, and flash supersu from TWRP.
Thanks for the steps I need to take. It'll get me pointed in the right direction
Maybe this will help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/idol-3/development/tool-tools-idol-3-5-5-4-7-t3441781

I'm kinda new to this I have rooted older phones but this is my first time attempting on my verizon htc M8 I can not seem to find the unlock bootloader and the s-off to be able to root and install a GPE with OTA so that I can get lollipop on my phone. Is there anyone who can help me out and lead me in the right direction so that I can get this done my head is spinning with all the things I've read. I know weaksauce no longer works and well now that i have confirmed it does not work on my phone I'm back up against a wall. Thank you for anyone who can help me out. :good:
Assuming you are on 4.4.4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2971591
this version of weaksauce will get you temp root. You will then need to install the sunshine.apk and pay the $25 and that will unlock your boot loader and get you s-off. You will then need to install a custom recovery and after that, boot into said recovery. You will need to install the SuperSU.zip to get permanent root. Then you should be able to flash your gpe rom zip and such. That's the broad general overview .
thanks

Ah. Some people have been able to get sunshine to work on 4.4.4 with weak sauce 2, so it was a gamble whether or not it would work for you.
Hi everyone,
I guess I need a bit help, I switched from Samsung devices to HTC and the rooting / update procedure etc seems a lot different than what i was used to.
So I have tested a bit with ADB and fastboot and managed to unlock the bootloader and root the device and install the TWRP.
But now my problem starts:
How can i update to a new android stock-version without losing my data? OTA is not possible due to TWRP, right?
Flashing Roms with TWRP is not possible with S-On, right?
So what are my next steps?
Buyng sunshine and then flashing via TWRP? Or is there another option?
I dont want the CM13, i just want to be able to update the HTC Stock versions with Root and a custom recovery.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
André

Easiest would be to ODIN to PB1, root that, then use the SafeStrap from that load to run any PB1 rom or upgrade to PD1
To ODIN and root PB1 follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370
ODIN to PB1 is found in the section "Prepare your phone for root"
Root is in the first part of the OP, I did from the "very important" until line 5 (skipping line 2)
Reboot phone open Safestrap app and Click Reboot To Recovery. If during this process you every get stuck on samsung screen.
Pull battery reboot phone to bootloader (VolDwn+Pwr+Home) load a PB1 rom such as https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24438995911967916 from @muniz_ri
Once you load the rooted PB1 you can unlock the bootloader and follow my post on how I updated at http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...0-keeproot-t3149784/post67248881#post67248881
Can i not just download the 6.0.1 firmware from sammobile and upgrade through odin, Cause I am concerned i will brick my phone or smth and I am not at home and don't have a laptop with (will have to use a public one). Thanks
Updating directly to PD1 is possible if you can find a tar file, but PD1 is not rootable without the unlocked bootloader which can only be achieved through PB1.

Don't know how far you want to go but just ODIN back to NCG, TowelRoot, install FlashFire and go to muniz_ri's root thread. Check your CID by using phone info app and you may be able to unlock your device if you've got the 15 eMMC chip. Currently the 11 chip is work in progress for unlocking the bootloader....but do as you wish to root...I'm 'ol school....lol
Hey guys,
Got a Z3 with locked BL, decided recently I wanted to root the phone so followed the downgrade method, installed TWRP, installed 6.0.1 using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/stock-marshmallow-6-0-1-build-23-5-0-t3357509
That should have rooted the device and installed MM. MM seems to work ok but ES file explorer says there is no root. Also my TWRP recovery isn't working due to this problem (probably): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66232031&postcount=328
I'm a bit new to this but I can't seem to fix the TWRP problem without root access and I can't get root access without a custom recovery? I have Flashtool and tried to follow this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66232031&postcount=328
But I'm not sure how I'm meant to flash the required zips. Any help would be much appreciated, step by step would be a bonus xoxo

Flashed recroot before reboot?
Take a look here

Thanks, presuming I'd need to downgrade and root again. Trying to avoid that if possible...

I am on 4.4.2 and have root access with SuperSU installed and Knox disabled. Trying to install TWRP by flashing from the app. When I attempt to boot into recovery I get an AT&T messasge showing it's an unknown recovery. I can boot back into main but not into recovery.
I'm just trying to install TWRP so I can possible install LineageOS 14.1. I know getting an LTE version isn't the best idea but it was cheap, just want to be on Nougat.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Well I'll just keep it on stock 5.1. Sucks but got it for dirt cheap and doubt I'll find a Wi-Fi model for cheap.
