Exclusive: Samsung stops Galaxy S8 Android 8.0 release, new version being developed - Samsung Galaxy S8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Samsung started rolling out the much-awaited Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ last week. As promised, the update was first released to members of the beta program before it was rolled out to non-beta devices earlier this week. The update had only been sent out in a handful of markets but in a rather unexpected turn of events, Samsung has stopped the Galaxy S8 Android 8.0 Oreo update release..

yep, that was rather weird, almost felt like the finger to the community or users,
not sure what is all behind this rather unconventional name though

Well, it looks like anyone on Carrier Branded firmware (me) is in for a long wait, if a problem has been found in the firmware, it will set everyone back.

What abot people who have already updated to oreo? (Like me)
I've used the method with odin (from aql5 to crap and flashed update.zip on sd). Mine it's fine, i've only some lags in volume panel

According to the post, it shouldn't be a problem for anyone who has already updated. It would be ideal if they let people know why though.

Well, ive already flashed trough Odin the Spain PHE version into my Portuguese phone using the tutorial to make the necessaries workarounds.
So far im very happy.
The phone is very stable and much more fluid and quick than Nougat
Nothing to complaint so far!!!

Now I know the reason why it is lablled as CRAP.

They probably want to prevent rolling back to nougat bootloader for those that use that loophole to root and not have to wait 7 days for oem lock to appear.

Hi everyone
Today I flashed the firmware crap but now I can not install the recovery how to downgrade

it's a shame to samsung, we consumers pay a fortune for a mobile phone, and we have to wait 2 years for an OS update
i missing my nexus´s my father phone (nexus 5x ) have oreo 8.1 ...unbelievable lolllllol

The last 5 characters of the firmware version are: numeric for BL version, alphanumeric for the phone’s Samsung Experience/major update (C means third major update to the initial release of the phone), alphanumeric for the year (Q is 2017, R is 2018), alphanumeric for month (technically alphabetic, A to K), and alphanumeric for non-test-build of the given month.
So 1CRAP is: bootloader v1, third major release, 2018, january, P release.

Apparently the only reason they stoped the rollout of oreo was that it was causing some devices to reboot. That's what I've been reading has anyone had that problem?

There probably more to it than what's been told

I think too. The hole firmware is really laggy...man samsung never will have good softwaredevelopers...its not that bad at all...but many others do better jobs ins engineering....

I don't understand why some people say Oreo is better. CRAP its better. Oreo is laggy as ****. I will have to go back to N if they do not fix it fast.

Android 5 support for Note 10.1 1st gen

Hello guys,
I searched on the internet about this topic, but I couldn't find anything related. However, I'm very curious if the first generation of Note 10.1 tablets (GT-N8000/8010/8013/8020) will get the Android OS 5 update.
Anything announced regarding this?
I think there will be No official update.
KitKat 4.4.2 will be the last version update of GT-N80xx.
Definitely not! N8000 update history:
- in a shop on september 2012 (here) with android 4.0
- got an update on january 2013 to android 4.1
- today on july 2014 still waiting an update
And im pretty sure it is a final release and the (phone)tablet is totally then forgotten...
Sent from my phone - Note 10.1 (N8000)
It's not that bad if I'm honest... The newer software actually removes some of the goodness that makes the N8000/N8010 different from the bunch, like multi-windows for example. Sure there are more bells and whistles for the S-Pen but less multitasking friendly. Basically you're left with lots of custom roms, which is not bad by itself. It just requires more effort.

Makes sense - kitkat announced September last year. Won't get hope up then !
Yeap i highly doubt there will be an official android L update for this series. However i can't wait to flash CM12 when it comes out to the device. It will give it another lease of life.
No More official version update after 4.4.2 KK...
But it is possible to port a custom ROM for N80xx in the future...

I love each update a manufacturer releases but to be honest i buy my device expecting none. I expect the warranty to be up held as long as I don't monkey with it (I never have a warranty). I expect build quality to be acceptable. I expect the functions it is supposed to have when I purchase it to work properly (never gonna happen because of wifi and bluetooth bug). The new OS versions usually contain a small benefit but rarely something outrageous and if I need that function (never have that I can recall since 4.0) I turn to mods. I think Samsung builds and prices these devices with a few updates in mind but to be realistic a company would go bankrupt if they produced updates for each device for as long as we the customer would like lol.

[Q] Updating to Lollipop

Hey guys
My friend just bought a new Huawei Mate 7 Gold yesterday and I checked the Android version and it says 4.4.2 Kit-Kat. He'd like to update it to Lollipop and since I have been doing such things for years on Samsung and HTC devices I thought I should help him out by checking the forum first. I found a helpful article about updating it to Lollipop OTA, however it is in German and the translation is terrible, so can anyone point me in the right direction?
As I said, the device is brand new and still has 4.4.2 unmodified Kit-Kat on it.
This is the article I am talking about: http://www.huaweiblog.de/huawei/huawei-mate-7-lollipop-update-download/
Thanks guys!
There's a thread dedicated to this in the general section
Thanks for you reply and for pointing me out to the right thread. From what I've read, it seems as though the Lollipop update is quite unstable nowadays and I should hold off till it's official, correct? I don't want my friend to go through a hassle because of it since he is not very tech-savvy.

I have installed lollipop 5.1.1 beta and its quite good but there's still many bugs. Maybe it is better to wait the official release.
I agree. If your friend is not tech savvy, hold first and wait for official release
It's usable as a daily driver, but no, not as stable as 4.4.2.
Generic overview:
-random reboots, not extremely frequent but they happen.
-some memory issues compared to 4.4.2
-a bit less battery
-some options not present
Hi, someone knows when will be release the official version of lollipop? No betas

I second that. While material design is nice to look at, the memory leak and battery drain are causing issues in some lollipop phones
hi,I tried alot roms but can not install them, device is mate 7 2gb ,MT7-L09 and rom is B137SP11,I think this rom is developed from any rom,by the way official huawei site in which rom avaible this one did not install too.I have another problem when I use ussd codes not change tr expression in area codes, may be it will occur from tr expression,I buy it from TURKEY I think it will not give permission to set new rom on it?thanks

Yes, for sure, I forgot about 7.1
Major OS 7.0 for S8 - A, 7.1 - B (skip for S8), 8.0 - C
R - 2018 year
A - January
0-9/A-F - build number
Knowing samsung if its released to some european country today it'll hit america in around a month, and canada in 2 months, then a month later the s9 is released... thanks samsung.
I wish Samsung would fix their update scheme. There is Android Fragmentation, then there is Android Samsung Fragmentation. Why is the Galaxy Tab A 2016 getting the January security update and my unlocked S8 is on November...
Also the latest Oreo Beta is on December, I know security updates are only small but as has been seen on the January update with the Pixels they can cause issues, so I would be sceptical to an Oreo release even being up to date.
Samsung needs to stop carriers turning their phones into bloated messes. My phone, before I debranded, came with 17 applications installed by the carrier, none of which I have any use for or have used!
It really isn't that hard to get this right, and it's what we are all asking for! Simplification and transparency, not waiting and waiting and waiting! Some customers with Note 8's in the UK are still on August Security Patch. That's what £800 gets you, negligence.

I see they have jumped back to CRAB version from CRAL in the test server. Wonder if that is in prep for the release to beta testers.

You can't. All you can do is check the latest firmware version on sammy server. Pie in the sky, literally.
The 'pie' firmwares have been on the list there for quite a long time btw.
There are seven previous test Pie versions in the list.
Could any of the testers enlighten us please ?
I am waiting for this since the SD beta came out. Now lets just hope that we will have something to download and flash soon.

No if you love in a European country like Germany, France, the UK and some more there's a really high big and intense chance that you will be able to participate in the official beta program.
A new firmware is under testing. New Pie Build. No number at the end so maybe a final firmware close to the one we will see for the beta program?

This drive me crazy, i'm really exited to try new Samsung Experience, even i know that new ui is a mess.
So guys it's almost November. Last year the 2nd November Samsung announced the Beta Program which was a Thursday. So let's hope that Samsung is announcing the start for the beta program tomorrow on the 1st November.
Fingers crossed!
I don't think it will happen tomorrow. The last two years there were always a few Z-firmwares (beta firmwares) on the server before the beta was announced, but at the moment there is nothing to see for the Exynos variant.
And also the last years, the beta FAQs were released a few days before, which is not the case so far.

Galaxy Note 8 Update Question

Hey everyone, I'm relatively new here, so I'm hoping this is the proper section to post my question regarding my Note 8's inability to find an update. It's model number is SM-N950U, and baseband version N950USQS3BRB2 (AT&T). It has the stock 7.1.1 firmware, and it absolutely will not find any firmware updates when I search. It's driving me crazy because my other note 8 is updated to 9, however its screen is cracked to ****. And my old Note 8 is in perfect condition. Any info or tips would be great help. And again, I've tried looking through the forums at firmware links and lists, but I can't find any update files for my specific baseband version. I don't know if that matters or not. Anyways, thanks for anyone's time that helps.

You cannot update from the N950USQS3BRB2 firmware version that's why it's not finding anything. You need to manually update it yourself to the next update version which I think is N950USQU3CRC2 using Odin and then it'll be able to do it on it's own.
Hey Mike whats up bro. My Note 9 does this same thing. Seems that a lot of people with At&t have this issue. My 8 is still on BRK2 rooted, and will stay that way..lol.

Hey what's up brother!! I noticed that too and I think they're messing something up and then when they push the update out it's supposed to see a certain version to update from and if they mess up the version it's supposed to see by typos or something then it just doesn't update and then keeps saying you're on the latest firmware version even though you know you're not lol.. Usually when I run into that problem if you update it yourself to the next version it seems to clear the problem. Personally I don't like updating either because we all know that they're just putting a bunch of junk on the phone in order to make it get slower and slower to make us get annoyed with it and buy a new phone..

Thank you so much for your response. I manually updated it to CRC2 yesterday using ADB. Now it's at version 8. The whole reason I was wanting to update it was because of the PIP feature in 8. Now i just have to get it updated to 9. But it's still not finding an update when I search. So I may have to manually do it again.

You are right Mike, sometimes you have to get device on right path before it will process an OTA. Now me I am a little OCD and I would rather use Odin or firmware Science method to update. It's just something about OTA vs connection when updating that gets my OCD...lol
