Hello guys,
I searched on the internet about this topic, but I couldn't find anything related. However, I'm very curious if the first generation of Note 10.1 tablets (GT-N8000/8010/8013/8020) will get the Android OS 5 update.
Anything announced regarding this?
I think there will be No official update.
KitKat 4.4.2 will be the last version update of GT-N80xx.
Definitely not! N8000 update history:
- in a shop on september 2012 (here) with android 4.0
- got an update on january 2013 to android 4.1
- today on july 2014 still waiting an update
And im pretty sure it is a final release and the (phone)tablet is totally then forgotten...
Sent from my phone - Note 10.1 (N8000)
It's not that bad if I'm honest... The newer software actually removes some of the goodness that makes the N8000/N8010 different from the bunch, like multi-windows for example. Sure there are more bells and whistles for the S-Pen but less multitasking friendly. Basically you're left with lots of custom roms, which is not bad by itself. It just requires more effort.

That article is one year old. Hence that we didn't know that kit kat was 5.0 or 4.4 back then.

Makes sense - kitkat announced September last year. Won't get hope up then !
Yeap i highly doubt there will be an official android L update for this series. However i can't wait to flash CM12 when it comes out to the device. It will give it another lease of life.
No More official version update after 4.4.2 KK...
But it is possible to port a custom ROM for N80xx in the future...

Seriously?
I'd be happy if my 8013 get 4.4.2 - I'm not even going to pretend to expect to see L.

I love each update a manufacturer releases but to be honest i buy my device expecting none. I expect the warranty to be up held as long as I don't monkey with it (I never have a warranty). I expect build quality to be acceptable. I expect the functions it is supposed to have when I purchase it to work properly (never gonna happen because of wifi and bluetooth bug). The new OS versions usually contain a small benefit but rarely something outrageous and if I need that function (never have that I can recall since 4.0) I turn to mods. I think Samsung builds and prices these devices with a few updates in mind but to be realistic a company would go bankrupt if they produced updates for each device for as long as we the customer would like lol.

In other words...."Dude... I don't know diddly..... why you calling me asking this?" "Of course we are going to give you some stupid excuse. What did you want us to say?"
Welcome to Acer....
Heck, they still haven't put out, Ahem...... JB KERNEL SOURCE for the 701! And...... They know it is against GPL. Hear that ACER? Non GPL compliant.
JB isn't being tested. It's ready and has been. They just have a schedule (to wait for issues from other OTA's). Just be patient.
MD
I thought under GPL they had like 180 days to post source? I know there are a few vendors that push it to the end.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
My guess is that they've pushed the JB update to a small group of guinea pigs... I mean users... to find major issues before a wider release.
Update is likely still in "Beta" form and not ready for general release.

Generally, they should push it upon release.
In the case of 501 HC, they pushed it about 9 months afterwards. Fortunately, there wasn't a lot of differences in the kernel source, so devs could make modified kernels.
A lot of this, has to do with "branded" 501 models. Although it has nothing to do with the kernel source.
I will say, Acer did a lot by allowing unlocked bootloader. Kudo's Acer. However, they put a super-brick bug in the kernel/bootloader source. Which means, when you flash a certain amount of times, your tab may brick itself.
So far, we have found a couple of things. But I am sure there are more. Guess Acer likes to have more repairs. Costing them money.
But the bugs will be found. They always are.

I wonder why the tab isn't updating to a newer version?

At 1.017, you appear to be on the original ICS release of Android for the A700- that's old! Is that by choice? If not, there's definitely something weird about this.
I was the one who got frustrated with no update from 1.029, and messed around with trying to update to 1.057 and found that it worked. I passed that along to bidniss in the other thread on this forum, and via Itchee, et. al. word appears to be getting out now.
I started out rooted with CWM 6.0.1.4 on Build # 1.057, knowing that you can't get an OTA update in that state. So I unrooted and re-locked bootloader by flashing stock 1.029 (because stock 1.057 wouldn't work to unroot). It seemed kind of screwy to me that when I checked for an update from 1.029 it told me I was "up to date". Even if JB was NOT yet available I should have been prompted to update to 1.057, I would have thought. That's why I decided to install the stock 1.057 on my own. Lo and behold, the minute I did it I was prompted for the JB update!
It seems if you fall behind in updates, Acer is not too friendly about helping you get caught up?
I've only had my A700 for a little over 1 week, and I've not been offered any OTA update. I've been checking manually 20 - 50 times a day and I keep getting the "your device is up to date" message...

I believe they are skipping 4.2 and going straight to 4.3 on most devices (the ones that didn't launch with 4.2), then from there they're going to 5.0.
I would like to see 4.3, but honestly don't expect to see 5.0 ever on this device . . . at least not from Samsung.
They've stated it would get 5.0 in the future. Hell if google keeps taking their sweet ass time with 5.0 Samsung may just skip 4.3 and go straight to 5.0...lol.
Any word on when we may be receiving the OTA for the new firmware?

That is surprising and good news. I know Samsung does support their devices better than some other OEM's but given it came with ICS then got JB 4.1.2 I just figured it was not likely to get more than 4.2.2 or 4.3. Where did you read they were planning on 5.0?

its possible, To Samsung its probably a old device and theres a half and half chance it wont get Android L, that goes the same for The galaxy s3, they both started on ICS (i think the note 2 started with jelly bean) and have gotten many updates up to kit kat which was very generous of Samsung. if it would get android L it would be about a 6months or a year AFTER Android L has came out, think about it, if your old device has the latest Android L update why go out and buy a brand new $800 phone.

yeah like Sent1n3L said we WILL get android L custom roms, but probably not stock android L.
Android L has not been formally released. Currently it is only delivered to Nexus devices.
The latest version of Android L is not complete and stable. When there is formal version released, there should be custom ROM for Android L on Note 2.
I do not think that Samsung will release Android L update for Note 2 in future.

Probably original N7 will also get Android L when it is released. Since even the oldest N7 now can be updated to latest Android version 4.4.3/4, and its hardware is enough to run Android L.
of course

No.
Google contracts last 18 months or two major updates.
The Note 2 is 24 months old and has had 4.3 and 4.4.2. The end, its support is over.
And the genius above who mentioned the S3: the international version is officially not getting 4.4, the US edition is officially dropped now that it has 4.4 (it had 2GB RAM, the Int veraion 1).
Stop dreaming, that phone is long gone from the update list.
It will not come to the original Note either, and it will also not come to any other device older than 18 months.
No amount of begging, pleading and 'but the hardware can run it' will change their minds.
Your only option will be a customROM.

Hey guys
My friend just bought a new Huawei Mate 7 Gold yesterday and I checked the Android version and it says 4.4.2 Kit-Kat. He'd like to update it to Lollipop and since I have been doing such things for years on Samsung and HTC devices I thought I should help him out by checking the forum first. I found a helpful article about updating it to Lollipop OTA, however it is in German and the translation is terrible, so can anyone point me in the right direction?
As I said, the device is brand new and still has 4.4.2 unmodified Kit-Kat on it.
This is the article I am talking about: http://www.huaweiblog.de/huawei/huawei-mate-7-lollipop-update-download/
Thanks guys!
There's a thread dedicated to this in the general section
Thanks for you reply and for pointing me out to the right thread. From what I've read, it seems as though the Lollipop update is quite unstable nowadays and I should hold off till it's official, correct? I don't want my friend to go through a hassle because of it since he is not very tech-savvy.

I have installed lollipop 5.1.1 beta and its quite good but there's still many bugs. Maybe it is better to wait the official release.
I agree. If your friend is not tech savvy, hold first and wait for official release
It's usable as a daily driver, but no, not as stable as 4.4.2.
Generic overview:
-random reboots, not extremely frequent but they happen.
-some memory issues compared to 4.4.2
-a bit less battery
-some options not present
Hi, someone knows when will be release the official version of lollipop? No betas

Samsung started rolling out the much-awaited Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ last week. As promised, the update was first released to members of the beta program before it was rolled out to non-beta devices earlier this week. The update had only been sent out in a handful of markets but in a rather unexpected turn of events, Samsung has stopped the Galaxy S8 Android 8.0 Oreo update release..

Well, ive already flashed trough Odin the Spain PHE version into my Portuguese phone using the tutorial to make the necessaries workarounds.
So far im very happy.
The phone is very stable and much more fluid and quick than Nougat
Nothing to complaint so far!!!
Now I know the reason why it is lablled as CRAP.
They probably want to prevent rolling back to nougat bootloader for those that use that loophole to root and not have to wait 7 days for oem lock to appear.

The last 5 characters of the firmware version are: numeric for BL version, alphanumeric for the phone’s Samsung Experience/major update (C means third major update to the initial release of the phone), alphanumeric for the year (Q is 2017, R is 2018), alphanumeric for month (technically alphabetic, A to K), and alphanumeric for non-test-build of the given month.
So 1CRAP is: bootloader v1, third major release, 2018, january, P release.
