PS4 remote play via LTE - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Questions & Answers

Has anyone tried using LTE Network to use remote play..I know the app requires WiFi only to achieve it..but I wanna use my grandfathered unlimited TMobile LTE to do so..has anybody been able to do that..until I root my xperia..you can download on play store " fake WiFi" it's the first application that requires Xposed..and fakes a WiFi signal for apps that requires it and see if it works

I've used another phone in hotspot mode and so far the Remote play app can't tell the difference between that and actual WiFi, it's really choppy though....

I use remote play on T-Mobile LTE frequently without issue. Where I play has good LTE signal but it works extremely well.

Try downloading this app and see if it works. If it says it needs updating try find a similar thread on XDA that has an APK for bypassing WiFi checks.

Photon Q 4G LTE, USB/WiFi Tether, Anyone?

So the unlocking of the boot loader was simple with Motorola's instructions on their website. Now all I need to figure out how to do is fix the USB tethering so it simply works...
Anyone know how to do this yet? I know there are programs that you can install/use but I don't want to use those.
Not sure if it has the option to do that out of box or not but if it does and its not working, I remember someone saying it is picky with what USB cable you use.
Or by programs you mean not installing programs on the PC? and not by apps?
I know it doesn't out of the box. Just trying to find a fix for it.

It is hard to say as it varies per phone, try going to google play and searching for usb tether and try a few. If none work, in WORST case you can make a Proxy on your phone and then route your internet through the proxy on your browser. Though any reason why Wifi/Bluetooth is not an option?
Tried some of the apps on the market, none are working. PdaNet won't even install. Usb is preferred, wifi or bluetooth would be fine for now. How do you setup the proxy? Ive never done that on a phone yet.

If wifi/bluetooth is an option try FoxFi. If that doesn't work, ill instruct you how to do the proxy thing.
Tried FoxFi and it says its not supported by my carrier (sprint) so it doesnt let me install. Same thing with pdanet

you mean doesn't let you install from sprint market? or doesn't work when you open it? you can download the apk directly on the developers site or download it on Amazon appstore.
App market doesn't allow the download. I'm going to try to find the apk for pdanet, i do have the license for the full version of that. All that i have been able to download just haven't worked. Ill let ya know what i can figure out.

Okay... i got PDA Net working. Had to download the apk elsewhere other than the market where its not allowed. That allows usb, bt, and wifi. I guess this will work for now until some devs get some fixes out for the new photon Can't be driving around the country without internet for my laptop...

This is why I just use Amazon Appstore, no silly carrier locking. And it keeps the locked apps updated.

Any results yet? I'll buy this phone or not depending on whether PdaNet can work.
BTW how is its reception in low signal areas,
and does its GPS work reasonably well?
I'm looking to replace a 2yo Samsung Epic 4g whose

I just went from my Epic 4G... The Photon Q has a lot better signal strength than the Epic. PdaNet is working great. I downloaded it from here: http://www.apkfullapps.com/2012/03/pdanet-pro-v350-apk-app.html I selected rapid gator, it comes as p350.zip and contains the apk for the phone, and both 32 & 64 bit versions of the computer app needed.
You will need to buy a license for it to be able to visit https sites. Here is their site:
http://junefabrics.com
The GPS seems to be working great. I've had no issues with it yet so far. Always seems to be accurate, and fast at getting the original location. I'm hoping that soon enough I won't have to use PdaNet to tether anymore now that motorola released the kernal source. That makes it a lot easier for our devs to get new roms and fixes out for it
after rooting with shabby's cwm, I tried Wi-Fi tether, but I couldn't connect to the hotspot. I opened an issue with the Google project
Sent from my CM9 Epic 4g Touch using Forum Runner
My USB tethering works right out of the box. I just hooked it up to my PC, let the included Motorola software install the relevant drivers and turned on the option in the settings. Bam, had my desktop online. It takes it a few moments to connect and sometimes you have to play with the setting or unplug it/plug it back in etc. before it works. I sometimes get a message that my plan may not support tethering, but that always goes away if I just poke at the setting a couple more times. Patience seems to be the key. Sometimes it takes a little while for the network to be identified by Win7-64, which is what I am using.
I'll try WiFi hotspot later and see if my bridge can connect to it ...
Infrastructure Wifi Tether
I have found that with my Photon Q, after I unlocked it and rooted, I downloaded the newest "Wifi Tether For Root Users" off the Play Store and out of the box it worked.....as ad-hoc....I have found that if you go into the settings of Wifi Tether and hit "Change Device-Profile" and choose "Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)" then choose "Change Setup-Method" and hit "Netd (master)" then setup the Wifi Tether to your liking it will work without a problem on infrastructure.

Thanks for the link! Got it up and working and was able to verify that I can connect to work and run apps from Citrix while talking on the phone, SVDO for the win! Now I'm ready for the next time I lose cable at home and I need to work.
Installed the Wifi Tether and installed using zrmxp95's directions. I can connect to the network with my ipad, however the phone only only recieves about 4kb of data and then the webpage never loads. I can hit refresh on the ipad, and it will load another 4kb and do the same thing.

hotspot and psvita (unlimited tmobile data) cans and cants

If you are on the unlimited 4g plan for T-Mobile you don't have the tether option, but with certain apps you can activate hotspot and connect your psvita to it.
This is a list of things that work and don't work with a psvita while tethered to an HTC one s on an unlimited 4g plan for tmobile. These are the results with WiFi for root, foxfi and the viper Rom tether. On cm10, pacman, viperone s, cm9 and different kernels and radios. In every situation the results are the same.
This list is still in progress, as I'm still trying different things. Let me know if you find a fix for the not working, or find other stuff please.

There are 2 ways to get around that, if your rooted download wifi tether for android, this will work as long as your screen is on, if it goes off you will loose data connection UNLESS THERE IS A CONSTANT DATA PULL, like streaming from Netflix. Unrooted you can use Foxfi from the market, it is now a paid app but works the same as wifi tether for android rooted devices. Now for situations that don't require streaming you can use opengarden which will allow you to browse the web and stuff but wont work for market stuff and streaming music or videos, so with these 2 solutions we can get around t-mobiles tethering fees. I don't think opengarden requires root, but I could be wrong.
I used fox fi, WiFi tether for root and a couple of of other methods, these are the results. The two methods you stated do not fix any of the non working apps

There must be something else going onwith your phone. I am rooted, but still have the stock ROM - just tweaked. Wifi Tether for Root users works perfectly for me all the time with all apps. I do have to keep screen on though which is easy enough. Foxfi was hit or miss with and without root. Open Garden was not as stable or quick for me - it does require root . . .

I'll flash the stock ROM and re check my findings, I hope it works.

I forgot to mention that I am rooted and unlocked, but I haven't flashed any custom roms on my phone, I am also fully up to date, thanks to voodoo ota rootkeeper.
Any specific settings you are using in the WiFi for root app? I'm also rooted and unlocked, just flashed stock Rom.
I found subscribing for hidemyass's vpn and using that will bypass the tethering restrictions with the unlimited plan. Been stuck in a hotel with dirt cheap wifi and it's worked well the last few days.
I cant even see the hotspot on a rooted stock rom using wifi tether for root users(on CM10 wifi tether for root showed up and I could connect, but I have the limitations I posted), may be a setting I have to change on the app. Im going to check out hidemyass's vpn for sure.
Mine will only work if I 'Enabe Wifi-Encryption' (use combination letter/# that is 13 characters) - Double check your access control and make sure 'MSS Clamping' + ''Routing Fix' are disabled . . .

I got it to work on CM9 for about 5 minutes, then it went back to non working youtube and tmobile upsell page on the browser. Im trying wifi tether for root users now on the stock tmous rom with the same results. I guess I have no choice but to go with a VPN to have working youtube and browser.

wifi tether

Hi guys,
I am loving the Nexus 5. I've ordered it, and should be here in 2 days. Only issue is, I need the program android-wifi-tether https://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ to be working on this phone.
You see, I have a data plan from my carrier which DOES NOT ALLOW you to tether = (. However, the program wifi tether works great to get around this. Previously I used to use an App called Fox-Fi which did something similar.
Currently I'm running a TW based Samsung S3, because WiFi Tether will only work on TW-based roms, not AOSP-based roms.
Do you think there is any chance to get WiFi Tether, (or similar) App that will work on the Google Nexus 5?
Thoughts?
It looks like the biggest requirement is Netfilter, which is essentially IP tables. Try installing IP tables, and see if the program will run. Otherwise, you can always use another tethering app like easytether, or another program (I know that there are loads out there). If you are rooted, it should not be much of a hassle to install.
Es Filexplorer will do it for you once rooted and a great file management app also
Thanks guys. I'll give it a shot once device is in my hands. Thanks.
Another method for this I use that sometimes works is to tether using the default app and just use a User Agent switch in google chrome for HTML traffic. My video games as well as spotify ETC work like normal I only need the UA switcher for traffic within the browser.
Wait, am I missing something here? OP, tethering is a standard feature in Nexus phones, esp now that Verizon is out of the equation.
Why can't you just use the built-in tethering? If it's an issue of your provider being able to track that, then I don't think any of the 3rd party tools are going to help. Typically, just a user-agent switcher can take care of the problem on the device that you're tethered to.
I'm dealing with this issue right now. I had a note 2 running macks rom on my sprint note 2 that let you hotspot free. The N5 tether/hotspot does not work. We need a work around..

My carrier has 2 data plans. 6gb for $30 gives you LTE and tether/hotspot. Or Unlimited LTE for $45 -but tether/hotspot is disabled/not allowed.
I'm on the $45 plan and built-in tether does not work. But the app "wifi-tether" gets around this and works Great!
The issue isn't user-agent. With built-in tether I can't even get a data signal. It will create the a dud Wi-Fi hotspot.
Let's hope IPTables works! I'm sure Bluetooth tether and USB tether may still work, but is much more annoying.

For my TW-based Samsung Galaxy S3, I used the file "wifi_tether_v3_4-experimental1.apk", then I changed the SSID and changed the WPA2-PSK phasephrase.
*** I think the trick was, if you did NOT change the default SSID or added a WPA2 password the App did not work. After you set a WPA2 password, you can then turn off encryption or change the SSID back to default.
But I don't think know if this will work for the Nexus 5. **Fingers-crossed!

Is that the case on a Nexus device or something else? In theory my plan doesn't allow tethering, but I've never had an issue with the built-in hotspot. I'm just trying to figure out how your carrier would even know you were using a hotspot versus having data requests come from the phone itself. The traffic should look the same, for the most part.

I believe when you tether, your phone creates a secondary data connection pipe for tethering data. Apps like WiFi-Tether spoof this, and can even create an internal proxy server, such that all tethered data will look like on-device mobile browsing data.
My carrier let's me only create one data connection, thus tether is not allowed. However if I insert my SIM into a "MiFi device", then I can "share" the data connection, as only 1 data connection is being established.
I MIGHT BE WRONG, but this is what it looks like is happening in my findings. Hence the use of IPTABLES to re-route.
I'm not sure why AOSP-based custom Roms could never get WiFi tether working, but TouchWiz (TW) based roms could. I assume something in the kernel. However, I need this working badly.
Interesting, I'd never really given the process a detailed consideration but that sounds like a plausible explanation for both how they detect it, how they block it, and how software modifications let you get around it.
I am currently using wifi tether on evo lte on sprint, fine. Thinking of getting nexus 5. Will this app work on it? that link to the other thread was about tmobile and data plans and stock hotspot app. I am interested in wifi tether app with root. What are the settings to make this work on N5?
Thanks

Dig through this thread. Somewhere there's a post explaining what to do to stop your carrier from checking if you are tethering. It requires editing a database and changing the proxy to ipv4 instead of ipv6.

[Q] Is Verizon blocking traffic via hotspot?

So here's the strange thing I've noticed recently while connected to my GS3 via hotspot, youtube videos don't play on devices connected to the specific hotspot. I'm using CleanRom 7, and I've only noticed this recently. It's like the video will not load, but the site itself works entirely. I don't have this issue with various Wi-Fi networks, it is specific to my phone and devices connected to my phone.
YouTube App does work on my phone regardless if hotspot is on.
YouTube does work on multiple networks on multiple devices, but via hotspot through my GS3.
No app blocking or redirecting incoming and outgoing traffic. (unless that's happening and I'm unaware of any changes)
I'm just curious if anyone is having this issue as well? Or with any other video format online. I've checked whether or not it's just the flash player or HTML5 format was the issue, but again the videos play regardless on networks outside of my hotspot. I've also been to sites where flash video works flawlessly via my hotspot. So, it's really just YouTube.

I also experienced the same thing. Been looking around and they are blocking youtube. Apparently they are blocking youtube, netflix and various other streaming sites on any device connected to the hotspot. I have a grandfathered unlimited account with verizon so its people like me they are mainly aiming this at. You can try a VPN from what im told by a buddy at verizon, but its hard to find a good VPN off the playstore that doesn't have nefarious programming. I'm sure you could find something here on XDA about VPNs. Sorry im not anymore help but im a newb. Lol
Also it might have something to do with when they throttle down the data speed. Might be automatic until your data plan renews each month.?

I finally found a vpn I like a lot. Private internet access, unlimited bandwith for 40 something a year. Speeds are good and it has a play store app that works pretty good now (the old app was just a shortcut to the default android vpn settings). I think its 10$ or something for month to month payment so if you try it out and like it don't forget to buy the year and save a good chunk of change.
Thanks I think its time for this. ive always heard of VPN's but never really understood the need. If this works "thanks Verizon for opening my eyes" lol

I just signed up for the Privateinternetaccess.com vpn service. It works great. Got my youtube videos and my netflixs back. Use the windows program on the computer that connects to the hotspot. I have problems connecting on windows 8 but it will connect. 7 and xp connect without any problems. I think it is a setting in the firewall. If you have a router that supports VPN you can set it up there and tunel all your traffic.

PIA, Hidemyass, airvpn etc will all work
Alternatively, you can spend a one time fee of $8 for the foxfi key. I use it to access my native hotspot on stock rooted 4.3 without any issues.

Hotspot/tether apps

Are there any hotspot or wireless tether apps in the app store that actually work? I would love to have unlocked hotspot, but I don't want to root yet. I can never get any of the apps in the app store to work either.
Does anyone know of any apps that work and possibly what settings to use to get them to work ?
