Mi4i - screen died after replacement - Xiaomi Mi 4i

My screen shattered rendering the phone unusable (image was fine, but the touch was partially off). So I ordered a replacement and replaced it. At first when I booted the phone with new screen installed, the image was glitching and freezing after a few seconds until I turned the screen off and on. I disconnected the battery a few times during the tests and sometimes the image would not show at all. Anyway, I thought this is the best I can get, I just needed the phone to be usable, so I placed the screws back in and put on the case. The display become kind of more stable - there was still a tiny bit of noise, but it didn't freeze. I set the alarm and went to sleep. After maybe 3 hours the alarm went off, I postponed it for an hour. It was the last time the display worked. Now reconnecting the battery or any other component doesn't help anymore.
What could be the cause? Is the screen permanently dead now?
I doubt this could be a software issue, is that even possible?
Why would it work for a few hours and then just stop - maybe it was just faulty and I should demand a refund?

I think it is more likely to be a hardware issue. Contact service center or from where you got replacement.

Is there anything I could try doing myself? Any clues? If not, then I'll just demand a refund. I don't think I damaged the screen in any way, it was working for a couple of hours and then just stopped.

maybe the parts is broke. or flexible not installe well

[Q] My display seems to fail randomly, even after changing LCD. What could it be?

So here's my issue. Yesterday, my phone started to give me a while screen full of dead pixels (pinkish color) randomly. I would turn off the phone, turn it back on and after 2-3 minutes it would crash again. Last year I dropped it and cracked the screen, so to me it was related to that. The phone works fine other than that (music plays when display fails. I did wipe it completely and reinstalled Kit Kat, it solved the issue temporarily but after 30 minutes it started again.
Today I decided to go check out a phone repair shop and ended getting my phone fixed by them. What this consisted of is a replacing the display and plastic frame. I picked up the phone and everything was perfect, new screen and display which looks and feels like new.
Now it's been about 5 hours and the phone started acting strange again. Now it's a lot less worse than before, but I still get the full screen of dead pixels. The display will go on and off (I guess it's trying to reinitialize or something) but always fails. So I end up rebooting the phone for it to work again.
The 2 times it happened after getting the phone fixed it was when I put it in my pocket to go from my work to my car, and then from my car to my home. So I don't know if it has anything to do with being in my pocket, that's why I came here.
So could anyone could shed some light on my issue here? Is my phone already dying? It's only been 13 months and I'd hate to have spent for a new display for basically nothing.
Replace the flex cable. If that doesn't work then it's an issue with the motherboard/screen, in which case you would have to guess between the two, or simply send it to LG and pay for a repair.

Finicky LCD? Other problems too

So i've been having a lot of issues with my N5 lately, mostly small stuff like general slowness, poor battery life, not surprising on an almost 3 year old phone. I also lose cell service way too frequently (not an issue with my carryer, all my friends are on the same network and are fine). Camera won't focus anymore (though im pretty sure this was my fault, probably broke it while taking it apart). I'm pretty sure the battery connector on my motherboard is damaged. I've had many problems with the battery reading its temperature as -30 C (battery heath "cold"), i've replaced the battery 4 times now and i still get that problem every now and then. Pushing on the connector fixes it temporarily, so im pretty sure some pin is bent slightly out of place and i don't know how to fix that. It recently started having this issue where just moving or bumping the phone the wrong way would cause the phone to shut off. Probably an issue with the battery connector again. I tried fiddling with it but it didn't do much.
The other day i turned it on and the LCD was backlit, but black except for one single vertical white line. Rebooted and it looked normal. Few hours later i got really pissed off with it for shutting off in the middle of an important text and threw it at the wall (not the best idea i know). Screen was already cracked so i didn't really care. Ever since then the LCD has been a real pain in the ass. i can turn the phone on but there's nothing on the screen. Ii get haptic feedback when the Google logo would up, and the notification LED is flashing like i have a message. The backlight is on and pushing hard on the cable connecting the motherboard to the daughter board i can see it start to turn on, (Google logo, few seconds of boot animation) but then back to black (while still backlit).
I can post photos if it would help diagnose/fix this, my phone is my main camera and i don't want to bother anyone if i don't have to.
Anyone know any tricks that might squeeze another mouth out of this dying phone? Any response is appreciated, Thanks!
The issues could have been related to the power button or physical internal damage. My suggestion: replace the screen with a cheap 3rd party screen if the internal components are still working. This will give you more time with your existing phone and allow you to have a working backup.

Possible display damage? Or proximity sensor issue?

Hi everybody.
I’ve had this phone for 10 months now and it’s been great. Yesterday, when i was trying to make a call, it was telling me that i am too close to the screen. I understood that the proximity sensor was acting funny, but I didn’t had time to look into it, because it was not covered by anything and it was in good light. This morning it was a short white flash when I unlocked it or when I was turning the screen off. It worked great all day after that. Then this evening i was using the phone and all of the sudden the screen started to flash white, then it would turn off fast and back on all white. It did that for 4-5 times, then it went in the state you see in the clip below. At one tine, it turned on like nothing happened for 3-4 seconds.
If i plug the charger in, it reacts normal. It's making the charging sound and it vibrates. Seems to be alive in the background, even though it's not displaying anything.
Does it have anything to do with the proximity sensor? Is it the ribbon cable connecting the display to the motherboard faulty? Should i just order a new display assembly?
Interesting, the next day seems to behave a bit different. I had remote erased it, i didn't want any of my personal data to remain on it.
I have found out that if the brightness level is low, i takes a few seconds until it starts blinking. If the brightness is high, then it does that straight away.
Ok, i will post a follow up for anyone else having the same problem. Now i can see that the display is damaged on the top left corner, the pixels are staying lit up bright. Now i can use it on low brightness for longer periods of time without flickering.
I have ordered a replacement screen assembly and i'm still waiting for it, as i don't have the phone under warranty. Looking forward to getting it fixed.
I have also ordered a replacement screen and will replace it when the shipment arrived. Have you found a repair manual for the screen replacement?
I have already removed the back cover of my phone and it seems it will not be so difficult. But it would be better to follow a manual.

I read this post now, I've got this kinda of broblem a month ago, but this happened only when the phone temperature became hot, I mean over 40°C, after a factory reset everything became normal, I no longer got high temperature and this problem don't appear, so at least in my phone it wasn't a hardware problem.

How was the teardown ? I can't find any videos on it. The axon 7 was a pain for me because the aluminum case was a pain to take off around the corners and got damaged a bit. Hopefully removing the back of the axon 10 is a little easier . Thanks for any info

Broken screen working again on low battery

Hi guys,
Some while ago my oneplus 7pro felt from the stairs. The backside is complety broken, but the frontscreen was ok because of the screenprotector.
After a while i noticed 'a lot' of dead pixels on the lower left side of the screen. The phone was still usable so i didn't bother about it.
Suddenly during normal use, my screen started flickering and my screen went off. It seemed that the screen was devided in 2 where the notificationbar was on the same height of the broken screen pixels.
I could see some things, but with a green film. But not possible of unlocking the screen.
I tought that the screen was completly broken and i moved to a spare phone.
I still hoped that the screen would do some sort of a reset when I let the battery completely drain, charge a bit and try again.
I checked almost every day on what percentage. But when it was on 13% (or nearby that %) the screen was working again like nothing happened before. I tought it was working again and charged it.
Because it worked again on a low percentage, I tought it may be a lower refreshrate of some sort of stuff that is on during battery save mode.
I left it charging some small time, tried again and screen was broken again.
I tought it was a lucky shot, so i didn't bothered again about the phone.
Yesterday i checked my phone again out of curiosity, and guess what, it was working again.
So I'd like to know what might cause it to work again on low battery. I lowered the resolution and refresh rate already.
Anyone who got an idea?
Nothing short of taking the phone to a repair shop will restore your phone to normal.
It's just going to get worse, there's nothing you can do to stop the progression, short of a repair & even then, you're probably throwing good money after bad, considering the type of damage incurred.

Can't be sure, my guess is some voltage leakage on higher voltage and short the screen somehow. If you can try de assemble and re assemble the phone. Just my guesses.
I suppose the higher the voltage the phone is able to provide the screen the worse it's going to get. Send it to OnePlus. Don't get it done independently, they cost way more

Black Screen Of Death

Hi All
Has anyone had any issues with a black screen?
Everything else works like incoming calls and notifications but the screen it totally black!
Woke up early hours last night and noticed no AOD so tried to turn my phone on but the screen was just dead. Tried the volume and power button but still no joy
Power it down completely then plug in the charger.
If nothing shows on the screen it sounds like you lost some significant hardware... maybe just a connector.

Same happened to my SM-N9860 unit when I woke up today. I about to unlock and the display suddenly went black screen. Did everything but no luck. I am also sure it's the display that's f***d up. The phone is still working - I can still access it in Dex and Link to Windows. This is my second Samsung phone with f**d up display for unknown reason. This is crap Samsung. Not expecting for this from an expensive flagship smartphone. I swear this is the last.

By the way, how did you fix your phone?
I tried searching it on the net, seems a number of Note 20 ultra units are experiencing the same.

Seems that display replacement is the only fix.

Poor parts QC.
Samsung will substitute components and smaller chipsets in the middle of a production run. This can lead to unpredictable behavior especially after firmware updates... or outright failures like this.
Not reassuring especially with a flagship phone.

Yeah. Very disappointing.
I can't believe it but my screen unexpectedly revives itself after a day.

Agree. But I am happy that it's working fine now and I hope it will not recur.

hi im facing exact same thing in my N986 B Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. I had 10 percent battery left. i had put phone on charge and saw after 20 minutes and tghe screen was black.
Now its blackscreen can connect with tv via hdmi dex mode
but phone restarts after 10 minutes.
the touch seems fine as mouse function works phone is on but no display
can you tell exactly what you did when your phone revieved after one day
did u keep it on. charge all tiime tried reset or removed charging
or nothing and tried after 1 day
Edit After 24 hours of tapping slappingrebooting installing stock firmware. my display came back alive.
last thing was i was using phone in dex mode and trying to open close camera app rapidly by direct touch on screen. i dont know what worked but it saved my 300 dollars of screen replacement
I have exactly the same issue.
I was typing on whatsapp when suddenly screen get black. It was on friday morning. Notifications were ok, voice commands too. Touchscreen ok, I could use it normally when using my TV as screen with HDMI cable or with my notebook, when connected to windows or even Dex.
One day earlier I had an issue with the new magisk update. I freeze magisk manager wich was force closing but later, I managed to reinstall with dex and was working fine. Not sure if it's related.
I already flashed fresh stock Android R rom, wich I thought would solve any issues related to magisk or any other software issue.
24h after flash stock rom and keep force rebooting and taping, and my display is still dead.
Tried to tap, slap, shake (I can her some noise next to camera module when shaking, is it normal? I took off S-pen and microsd tray to see if it was the cause, but the noise still persists). No damage, water, or anything else. Only 2 months of use.
Display is still dead.
I'm draining battery now with some apps that also vibrate phone, to see what happens when full drained.
I live in Manaus/Brazil and repair centers are not working until March 23 because of Sars-CoV2. And my knox is tripped. It would cost a lot If I have to replace display or even the phone, since they probably will say it's no longer covered by warranty.
Any tips are welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Hope I have that lucky as well.
It happened to me again today. Surprisingly, a strong knock at center of the screen revived it again.

Hardware failure. May be a loose connection, cracked solder joint, trace failure on the mobo, or a bad component.

Not good if there's a recall... crap QC is getting to be a bad Samsung habit.
Those of you with BSOD issues: Did you have intermittent wifi connectivity issues as well? My N20U had the 'connected to wifi AP but no internet' for the last month. Then today after unplugging the OEM charger, checking charge level, never picking the phone up from the desk, and returning to it 30 minutes later the BSOD had hit. No amount of hard restarts or waiting fixed it and it had to get shipped back. Just wondering if there is any correlation between the wifi issue and the screen going out, and if people should start sending their note in ASAP if the wifi problem occurs before the screen goes?
hello
i had the same problem (didn't have any Wifi issues before)
and after the screen went black for 2 day , it came back and worked for a few hours.. then went off again and Never came back
i tried everything, resets , cables , connecting to Dex or Hdmi , updating.. but Never worked
i went to Samsung and they said screen must be replaced ( will pay for it as i am out of warranty)
can you tell me what have you done or if anything worked for you?
My screen went black after a screen replacement. Only the front glass was broken not the digitizer or actual screen. From what I can tell it's not just the screen that's dead, it's the digitizer too. The S-Pen board underneath it all isn't even registering. When I plug it in the computer doesn't see it so Dex won't connect and there is no signal for HDMI to work. Had the USB port replaced just to be sure it wasn't a bad port.
It's like some one took the graphics card out of a computer and took the touch screen monitor. The phone still gets signal. It connected to my smart Fossil watch and I could answer calls and texts.
But the phone is 9 months old. And from what I've heard from parts distributors it's not the screen that's the issue. So now I have a new motherboard. Now I have to figure out how to program it....
