Today, I turned on my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge after charging overnight (my normal routine)... phone started its booting cycle so I let the dogs out. Came back to check for messages.... black screen... no matter what I've tried, can't get the screen to work.... folks at Verizon store referred me to a cell phone repair shop. The repair shop said it would cost $299 to replace the screen. Checking the FORUM to see if there's a fix other than buying a new phone... my phone has never been dropped or drowned. Any suggestions.... thanks.

Is the black screen there only after booting up? Or during boot as well?

Are you rooted? Are you able to access recovery mode?
If you are able to, your screen should be working fine. If not, could be a screen problem

unfortunately, i have no way of telling if it is or not because of the black screen... I don't recall installing any superuser software. I appreciate your effort to help, i've decided to purchase a note 8 as a replacement. Thanks again for your feedback & time.

I'm not sure if it's lag or what, but my phone screen won't come on. I think it's a ribbon that was disconnected or something though. For about a few hours if I were to press power to see the lock screen, all I saw where a bunch of rainbow static. Then I powered my phone on and off because nothing would work and now it's jut black! Does anyone know what's wrong? I can't boot into clockwork so I don't think it's a rom problem. Does anyone know the problem or have any idea to fix? Anyone I should ask specifically?
maybe water? even having my phone in the bathroom while i take a shower cause me that
It's not water, I never bring my phone close to place with water :/
can you boot into the screen where there are 3 droids with the skateboards? (i not sure whats the name)
I think I can boot and my phone still works, because it still rings when someone calls and it still vibrates when someone text it, but I just can't pick up or reply (because the screen won't come on). I should be able to boot into that thing, but I can't anything :/
well bro sorry i cant help you :/ maybe it could be the screen, the ribons or somethings loose. did it fell?

Seems like either broken ribbon that connects the screen to the "motherboard', or dead screen itself. That's exactly how 1 of my phones died (it was too complicated to disassemble and fix it myself)
But once I had similar problem with my TP2, the screen first become unresponsive to any touch, and then it went just black after restart (and every next restart). However all keys did work.
Hard reset somewhat helped, the screen actually came back, but it was still stuck on setting up Windows Mobile (if you know WinMo: the part where you calibrate touchscreen), apparently "touch" part of the screen didn't work.
I thought it is ribbon or screen assembly, but since all the keys worked I flashed another ROM and what do you know: all problems went away. It worked fine for as long as I had it. I never figured out what caused it/was the problem.

Hi there.
I smashed the screen on my HTC Sensation, it still worked but I wanted to try repair it. I followed the instrctional videos on youtube, took it apart, replaced screen, put it back together.
Now the phone wont boot past the HTC screen. It loops the startup process, black screen, vibrate, HTC screen and back to black screen around 4 times before giving up.
Any suggestions as to what Ive done to mess this up and how I can fix it?
I appreciate your help

If you haven't changed anything to the phone software, than it may be a hardware issue, but I guess in that case phone wouldn't boot at all. Are you able to get into recovery? If yes than it's probably software problem.
Hi I have just bought an s7 which turned out to be a Korean G930L but I cant get any response out if it apart from the 2 bottom leds and and the blue one. No response from trying to get into recovery or download mode, basically a black screen though it does vibrate on what i think is start up. It is found by pc and Odin and charges ok, I can tell as I can see properties on pc. But no other response. Is it possible that the previous owner tried to root it using non korean rom or TWRP? Any advice on how to fix either getting TWRP on or screen to light up. I am sorry for being so vague I have pulled it apart and checked all of the connections, screen, motherboard etc but nothing. Odin sees the phone but I am not sure if I am in Download mode so wont flash, as cant see screen.
Or chuck it out or put back on eBay.

Your phone's display screen has a problem , sadly you have to replace the display screen. Go to the nearest samsung service center.
Thanks it isnt worth it I will just sell it on ebay. I have been able to get to some of the screens [though still black] as it talks to me in Korean and the screen is giving haptic feedback so aspects of it are alive still. I am wondering now if someone has tried to ROOT it and semi bricked it or turned off the display internally. The other night night no matter what I pushed it vibrated and answered me with the same korean statement. I am trying to get into Recovery Mode without a screen and flash it without a screen but proving frustrating, maybe samsung dealer can reflash it with needing a screen.

It's not a software issue, there must be water damage or display is broken/went off for some other reason.
I had this same issue with my note 5, I was able to hear everything, touch key and notification lights were on too, that time my note 5 was accidentally dropped by me. So 99% your display is broken. Simply go to service center and get a quote, but display will cost same as used s7. Try to get after market screen.
ok thanks for the advice, i will head to them after the xmas break
So I just got my One Plus 6 today and was setting it up installing my favorite apps so I decided to see the community app while apps were downloading and my phone crashed and turned off.
It tried to boot again but it got stuck on the one plus logo right after the "Powered by android" message is gone.
I just can't believe this just happened to me in a brand new, out of the box phone.
Please help!

You'll need to do another factory reset. I think if you hold volume down and power key it takes you to the default OnePlus recovery and there's an option to format inside you. Other users please correct me if I'm wrong.
As for the crashing. Was it due to low battery or it just randomly crashed? Sounds very odd, I think you're one of the few who had this happen.

I know, I have never experienced something like this, nor have I heard about an issue similar. I can't even get to the recovery screen, it goes straight to a black screen, but I can feel it vibrates when I touch somewhere in the black screen. So pretty much my new phone is dead.
It had about 90 percent of battery and it crashed when I was surfing through the community app. Weird af.

To be honest. I would just warranty it. No point wasting the time trying to recover it to only have an unstable phone.
Had a similar issue with my old Sony z3, motherboard was toast.. Got it replaced right away, phone counted as "dead on arrival"

Yes, I have contacted one plus and seems like that's the only way to solve this. Though they keep transferring my case and all of them want me to go into recovery mode, which I can't do.
S22 Ultra, 512gb, Snapdragon; have this strange display bug and can't figure out what's going on. Looks like two small cutouts in the top right corner of the screen. What the hell is going on here? Anybody seen this before?
Do they move or disappear when your in landscape mode?
Are they present on the boot menu screen?

If present on the boot menu it's likely a hardware failure. Samsung QC should have picked that off...
Send it back.

Screen is all black at boot, so can't say for sure. However once my white wallpaper pops on the lock screen it's right there. Really bummed. It's going back.

You talking recovery? Mine is all black.
Boot to download mode and see if it's there. If it is it's hardware.
try to reset android cut out app, seems its software issue
That's definitely a damaged display. You'll need to contact Samsung or whoever you purchased it through, to get a repair/replacement.
