[Q] Does Nokia WH-701 Stereo Headset work with samsung galaxy S ?

Hi guys,
Can someone please tell me whether we can use the Nokia WH-701 Stereo Headset for making calls and change music tracks with the Samsung galaxy S I9000?
the default samsung one is of poor quality for listening to music and it doesnt have individual keys to change music tracks. it also doesn't fell good when plugged in. Its plastic doesn't feel smooth.
can you please tell any wired hands-free with music controls that work with samsung galaxy S?
I would love to buy this Nokia set if its works with our phone.

I have the WH-800. Sound and mic work ok, but the buttons dont do anything.

Hi, thanks for the reply. u said the buttons wont work, does it mean the call / end buttons wont work or the music buttons wont work?

not even samsung remote controls from other models work, it must be specified to work with the i9000, or else 90% of the time they just wont work.

i have got hold of the headphones, All the buttons dont work with the samsug default player and the android default player.
we can make calls and listen to music but the buttons are useless. is it really a hardware thing? or some software compatibility issue?
if its a software issue, can we create any music app that works with this buttons? (wishful thinking)

There is PowerAMP, which can use button in stock headset. Maybe it can use this Nokia's? Who can check?

thees headphones u can only listen to music!! u cant change the music throu buttons, u cant call with them eather.

Can you please confirm it works?

Mine works. Also can skip songs and change volume using the headset.

I'm using Dell's BH200 Bluetooth headset. I can answer calls, change music tracks etc via the headset. I get about 8 hours of music or 6 hours of calls on a single charge. You could try Ebay India or any of the others.

Will skullcandy lowrider work in sgy??

I use the jetAudio plus as player, because it have special functions for double and dribble click.

Unless the model of headphones with mic/button state they will work with Nokia pin layouts (SGS uses this pin layout), then it will not work, you'll need to find an adaptor, there are threads discussing, you should try a search.

Yes it does, its just phone calls that mess up.
If your headphones have the different pin layout, music will work, but if a call comes in...you wont be able to hear or say anything through the headphone/mic. You'd have to unplug the headphones (if headphones are plugged in, even the microphone on the phone is disabled) and use the phone to take the call
Are there any adapters that dont mess up the sound quality? I tried a Nokia mic adaptor with my Shure SE210's connected to them and it sounded horrible

Umm. Idk if the Klipsch S4i works on this SGS. Although I have the Klipsch S4 (and a SGS) and if you like bass heavy music and dance. These are perfect! If you want more info I'd suggest you to take a look at the head-fi forums

I just buy Creative HS-730i, only for nokia adapter and it work. Now I can use any iphone headphones ( with mic ) with my SGS Pretty well workaround, even radio is working with this adaper without headphones.
There is huge gap on the market with this adapter.

Buy a Denon AH-C710 no microphone & controls, just great music!

I have the s4i and they don't work. Bought the s4i for the iphone I had previously and they were amazing. But they dont work on the galaxy s. Not even music

As a rule of thumb:
All iPhone compatible earphones do not work.
Standard stereo earphones do work, but you get no mic.
Nokia compatible earphones with mic will work.

Mono vs Stereo

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this in because this is my first post as a member but here we go. I noticed that when using my mono earbuds with my nexus 5 they work perfectly fine, but the stereo earbuds don't work at all. Is this a problem with just me or just a limited feature of the phone? The stereo earbuds sounding better to me than mono and I prefer them. Also, the stereo earbuds worked perfectly on my nexus 7(2012 edition). Please help, I'd like to use the pink ones.

First of all....Mono earbuds? I've never even heard of those. Anyway, I've never had any problem with any headphones I've used on the N5. There may be something wrong with either the headphones or the headphone jack on your N5.

Mono are the earbuds that transmit the same sound through both earbuds. Stereos transmit bass through one and treble through the other if I'm not mistaken. You can tell the difference between them by looking at the Jack of them and counting the number of rings they have. 3 rings=stereo 2=mono

I'm pretty sure Stereo actually has independent sound on each side (Left and Right).

I don't think you understand stereo.
Mono plays the same through left and right speakers
Stereo plays the left channel through then left speaker and the right channel through the right speaker.
To play stereo , you need a stereo recording, stereo amplifier and stereo headphones. Stereo was invented in the late 1800's and industry released recording, stereo has been the norm for many, many years.
I've never in my life come across mono headphones and I haven't seen a device produced that only plays mono (that isn't a single speaker radio or centre speaker on a 5 channel audio setup) in my lifetime. Some headphone jacks have additional sleeves above and beyond the number required for stereo. A mono jack has one sleeve, one ring and the tip like this

As you can see, the other end of this is stereo. You cannot plug a mono jack into a stereo socket because stereo socket will have a left and right connection which a mono jack would bridge together because the mono sleeve on a jack is the same size as the left AND right on a stereo jack combined.
So, yes the nexus 5 is stereo. All your headphones are stereo. Every "media player" with a headphone jack going back to the first ever Sony walkman in the early 1980's is stereo
Looking at HiFi speakers, some are bi-wired to separate the bass and the treble to different cones within the same speaker cabinet. You still get left bass and right bass if you're playing a stereo source. Maybe that's what you're confusing.

Venture Odyssey. Very cheap (approx. 10€ + transport in Aliexpress). I'm very happy. The sound is very good. The volume is enough for me. It includes a OTG connector so you can use it on your PC. The DAC is better than the internal A2 DAC, and also better than most PCs.
I'm sure that any USB-c DAC improves the sound of our A2 very much.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but the DAC in the odyssey appears to be a Realtek ALC298, which is a 13 year old USB2.0 16bit 48khz dac (datasheet talks about 192khz support, but I'm not smart enough to understand the datasheet 100%). Windows lists the Hardware ID as "USB\VID_0BDA&PID_4040&REV_0000&MI_00" which returns the ALC298 on google. I'm not confident in this being correct however, since it's a generic driver, and the hardware ID may not be correct.

nope it doesnt use that much it also depend on the resistance of the headphone and how loud - the right slider is the volume any louder and youu will ruin your ears

I made a usb c headphone by using a broken type c to 3.5mm converter (with the usb part , pcb intact with Realtek DAC ship) and a broken set of earphones and assembled to solder them together. It's working like a charm with a very good audio, calling as well as good enough noise cancellation through the mic.

Question HI-RES Audio 24 Bit

Hello,
When listening to music, my 24 bit Flac audio files are played down to 16 bits. This is the case with bluetooth headset, wired headset, and its own speaker. I tried many music players. (Samsung music, poweramp, jetaudio etc.) When I look at the developer options, the 24 Bit feature appears to be passive.
I am waiting for your help in this matter. I bought this phone because it has this feature. Otherwise I would buy Mi 11 lite. I hope I will not regret it.

This seems yo be the case with me too.
I would suggest not using Bluetooth as it cannot play hi-res files. Over aux however, I use Poweramp and changed the setting to hi-res output. Even so,my 24 bit FLAC files get downsampled to 16bit. The A52 as far as I know doesn't have a dedicated dac like LG phones used to. Since there isn't any information on samsung website. Qualcomm does mention that 720g comes with support.
An external DAC would work, but that inferres lugging around another piece of tech in your already bulky pocket.
Any help would be great!

Bt isn't bandwidth capable of supporting 24 bit throughput.
UHQ Upscaler must be enable for hi res output via the C port. That toggle is found in Sound Assistant if you're using it and in Settings.

This post is a bit old but may help for people searching for Playback of High Resolution Audio.
I am using a FiiO BRT5 with LDAC Bluetooth Codec with Samsung Note10. Its has the highest throw power in wireless high resolution Audio.
Incase of any other brand of mobile phone or bluetooth headphones or amp, make sure ot supports LDAC on both end, LDAC was proprietary of Sony but its now supported by Android as well.

I saw something about Hi-Res audio being only played through the USB C port on USB C earphones and headsets? I think RayOS enabled it on the 3.5mm port too but I might be wrong.

In the end i got the phone, and yes, it tells me it's playing at 24 bit/192khz (using hi-res output, it can go further but i dont trust if it's really going that far and anything over 192khz it lowers the volume.)
