Hi peeps, have seen plenty of apps allowing remote desktop from androids phone to windows PC. Just curious to know if anyone has info of an app for phone that allows remote access of another android device eg, my transformer. Thanx in advance for any info.

Yes, the free VNC-Server on the market works well, but the VNC-Client I tried on my TF did not give me any opportunity to do swipe/drag gestures on the remotely controlled device which made it pretty hard to act in android. In addition, the phone I wanted to control ran Android 2.3, so the missing buttons were also a problem which made everything quite unusable. So I would say that you shouldn't expect to much of it.

Splashtop clients are available for mobile and PC/Mac, but the server (streamer) is not available for Android.
I've used the free Android VNC server in the market on my old phone and a VNC client on my work station before....worked but not enough that I'd fancy using it with a Transformer if it can be avoided (most needs I have for that are done via SSH).

There is an app called "Webkey" for android that basically allows you to remotely interact with your phone from a browser like through RDP or VNC. I think this is approximately what you're looking for. There is also an app called "Airdroid" that is similar in that you can control the phone/tablet from a browser, but its got its own UI rather than using the phones native UI.

Secure SHell (SSH), can be used to get a secure data stream between hosts, usually used for running a shell, file transfering, or forwarding ports.
In essense it gives you a "Command prompt" on another machine.
It can also be combined with the X Windows system, where in you run the program on another machine but it appears on your system. The ability to do that with the transformer however is more convoluted than a typical Linux box (and Windows NT apps are not programmed to support the X Windows System used on unix, linux, and bsd).
File transfers and port forwarding stuff however work pretty typically on the TF.

In order to run demos and project (for large audiences) what appears on the screen of my Nexus S, I'm looking for the best app (not necessarily free) able to do that via USB or WiFi.
Have you addressed the same need in the past?

Ok! I keep hoping I'll see some neat way to get my desktop apps on my Surface on here! However, I found a pretty cool solution myself!
First I set up remote desktop with my windows 7 PC and my surface. That was cool. It felt clunky and slow. However, I looked up how to do RemoteApps. I thought it looked complicated but worth it. While stumbling around I found a utility that basically sets it up for you!
1. First setup remote desktop access and free the port for remote desktop. I will not describe it here.
2. I used this utility! Kim Knight's remoteapp tool. Google it. XDA won't let me post a link cause I've never posted before. I just wanted to share my findings.
3. I now can use Utorrent, Photoshop and even my silly Pidgin! Eventually I'm going to use Maya! It works great with hardly any lag! The only lag I get is when I'm saving to my tablet vs the remote computer. I haven't been able to get a browser to work yet but I have invested that much time into it. I'm sure other people will figure it out. Whats cool is Utorrent will save to my tablet. Yah download speeds are slower but expected!

This is indeed a great find! I've played with RemoteApps before on the server editions of Windows, but it's quite tricky to get it to work with one server and not a huge enterprise! Being able to use it in this way is just great. Plus we can probably work out an XML file that will populate the apps into the RemoteApp control panel / metro RDP client automatically.
However, I'm having a problem with this on Win 8 (as a host). It seems to all setup ok, but upon connecting (from Win8 or Surface RT) after credentials, cert etc are accepted the RDP client just vanishes. I see Kim Knight's page says it works with Win 8 CP - has anyone tested it with Win 8 RTM? If MS have broken this with Win8 I think I'll have to setup a Win7 box/VM just for this purpose!

With concurrent connections, can you remote app and use desktop still with same login?
Edit: Tried it myself and it works. So now I can remote app in while I'm still logged in my desktop and it won't boot me off, allowing me to use them simultaneously with the same login.
I can confirm this works with Windows 8 Enterprise, but not Pro. There is, of course, no Ultimate. This is all a bit of a shame as I can't use RemoteApp on my primary home PC, which also runs Media Centre (which can't be added into W8 Enterprise).

Mine keeps booting me off... Asks me to sign out the other user before logging in. Any tips on how you were able to achieve that?

Did you install the concurrent RDP patch?
I installed it on Windows 7 Ultimate and I can use remote apps on my Surface and use desktop at the same time.

RemoteApp is just a remote desktop connection to a specific application, it's been around since Windows XP SP3. It's also how XP mode in Windows 7 does its magic.
I know what remote desktop is! But remoteapp - seamless windowed app on client - is pretty impressive.

The remote app program does work under Windows 8, but you need to run it as administrator otherwise it's crashtastic.
After that it works perfectly.

Hey all, if anyone can help me get remote desktop working on my surface it would be greatly appreciated. If a developer out there could set up an app to get this done easier, could be a moneymaker, I know id pay for it.
After scouring youtube, and the web, I found a lot of different walkthroughs on how to set up a home pc as a remote server. Unfortunately, I really don't know what im doing and cant figure out why it isn't working. Im running WinXP Pro SP3 on a few year old laptop (I bought the thing during the Vista debacle, and down graded to xp for software reasons - I am an architect and needed my AutoCAD and various graphic intensive programs)
These are the steps that I have tried, all to no avail
- I go to control panel, System, Remote, turn on Remote Desktop.
- open Linksys router configuration, and try to set up Port Forwarding
- this is where it really gets confusing for me, and I don't think that I am doing it correct. I know I need to open the port, I go to Applications and Gaming, and enter RDP, Im not sure of the port number, and what else to do here
- cmd, ipconfig - I enter all information - ip address, DNS, Gateway, etc?
I then found out that in order to really get this working, I needed a static IP address - Im not sure how to do this, but I found a couple posts, and a youtube video suggesting using DynDNS to get this working as a host. I signed up, and am still not able to connect.
Any help would be appreciated - Im not great with this stuff.....I never really played with networking, before....Please help me get my Surface working. Its possible im not entering the address correctly in the Surface Remote Desktop App.

If the surface is on your home wifi, it should be able to rdp (remote desktop) to the XP system no problem.
Only need the router ip mapping / translation if using the Surface outside the house on another Internet connection
Hi guys, i recently got this adfoc.us popup or somethig and it shows on 99% of the webpages when i browse the web via chrome. Its probably a malware or something but I cant get rid of it. It also prompted me if i want to inspall sexy cafe. Apk or something.
Anyone has same problem and how can i get rid of it? Should i do factory reset?

You could try downloading an AV program off of Google Play Store, but you may have to factory reset.
You are not infected, but your router is. DNS is changed, go into router settings and put manual DNS from Google

Highly doubt its the router (unless remote admin is turned on, then you deserve it) sounds like hosts to me

I work in a isp company and yes it's a router. zte and tplink routers have more or less widely open wan access, either from web, cwmp or SNMP, so merely changing web access pass does not help some script kiddie plays with range of IP addresses and you have adfoc site on every computer, phone, etc

What does working for a isp company have to do with anything ?
adfoc.us is nothing more than 'bundling' malware not a virus (to be technical a redirect virus) that highjacks DNS and hosts files on windows machines also adds other malware hence it's called 'bundling'.
Its real name is adfocus.us browser hijacker, it's distributed by hook
A Hook is programmed as DLL file that it is capable to block the message of solicitation to a desirable site and achieve redirection, then a cyber criminals may use Windows Socket Layer Service Provider associated with SPI to get user’s transmitting data no matter you are using Firefox, IE or Chrome
If you have a "wide open" type of router, you shouldn't be using a computer or phone period
Been removing rootkits, virus, malware off of windows machines for many years, don't need a isp worker to tell me it's a router
Well, ISP worker tells you, from first hand experience that some Chinese routers can be manipulated regardless of web password and DNS can be changed.
That means ISP worker has seen DNS changed from our DNS to some address in Germany. And wide open router is something most users know nothing about especially regarding cwmp protocol.
And we have reports from our customers that every network device opens adfoc.us it's not really rocket science is it ? And windows is crap we get that but I'm somewhat sure my version is the correct one, especially because adfoc.us tried to install some apk file (see original post) Not sure if apk files work with windows

I tried surfing in safe mode on another wifi network at my office. I dont have any problem at all.
Not once this adfoc popped up.
It must be some third party app or the rooter as absbrain mentioned. If its the rooter I should have the same issue on my pc as well correct?

I am not opposed to the idea, its not new, but, first of all, this article is just about a year old, and new firmware has been out since then, have the users switched to the new firmware, who knows, 98% of windows people are point & click, that is the biggest problem, especially using android.
Second, like I said earlier, and what the article says also, remote admin should be disabled and change the default username and password, here in the states, dsl kinda faded out 10 years ago and those routers you list aren't common here, not saying this can't happen, but, OTOH a little common sense goes a long way.
Javascript is a popular way to get infected from websites, running things as noscript, ghost, etc, should help out a lot, there is a lot you can do to prevent this stuff from happening, most people are clueless or lazy or click happy.
Another way to help is to get rid of windows (every operating system can be hacked) (flame) but others are more secure by design, or for banking needs use a live linux cd/usb stick, 99% of people won't bother or even research the idea.
I look at this as pebak, and not knowing enough of the internet or their equipment and just clicking on anything, hence the point & click.

Possibly. Unless it is Android only malware or affects your computer differently. If you have any lesser known apps installed try removing them. I would honestly suggest a factory reset.

Hi,
Its definetely the wi-fi rooter that i have w hich is TP Link.
I called my proveder they said there is a problem with the DNS. They reset my rooter online and it was fine for couple of days.
But now same thing happens. On both my wife and mine mobile phones surfing is impossible.
It automatically swithches the link to a porn site. Same thing happens as a pop up on my PC as well.
Any solution to fix this or I should get a more expensive rooter?

Sounds like your router may have been compromised. Try a complete reset of it including updating it's firmware.

Tried that, same thing happens.
I'm being directed to spaces.slimspots.com and then to various porn sites.
Its really annoying and I cant seem to find a solution.

Have you tried malwarebytes on your pc's?

I would recommend the following:
1) Hard reset all your devices. Back up your data but then completely wipe the phone (/sdcard as well).
2) Disconnect your PCs. If you are savvy enough I would recommend running a Linux distro for a few days (so you can at least still use the computer).
3) Get a CD (not usb stick due to writableness) and download several AV tools (quick Google will yield some results). Take the PC offline (unplug ethernet/disable wifi), put the CD in, run a few scans and get it cleaned out.
4) Manually take your router and disable DHCP/DNS interally, forward your DHCP requests if you decide to keep DHCP on to a known good DNS server like 8.8.8.8.
5) Ideally, swap the router out for a new one or use your own instead of #4.

I have a toughbook running windows 7.
I want to run navionics boating navigation app via an android simulator and have it use the location given by my usb gos dongle as its considerably cheaper than a dedicated chartplotter.
So far ive tried a few emulators. Leapdroid seems to be the fastest to load and run the app. Or virtual box running android x86.
Genymotion/jar of beans/andyroid install ok but then seem to disappear from the system.
Nox doesnt list the app in google play store for some reason.
Memu works ok and bluestacks is painfully slow.
All the above will not take the location from the dongle.
I wont be connected to wifi as il be on a boat.

This is a PC related question, not an android specific problem, I don't think the solution is android related. The problem you are having is related to the PC programs that you are using, not the android operating system that you are using in those programs. You are having issues with getting the emulator to use your dongle correctly, not necessarily a problem with android using the dongle.
This question should be asked on a PC forum or maybe a forum created for one of the emulator programs you are using. For example, try finding a forum for BlueStacks or a forum for one of the other emulators that you have tried.

You can also try installing androidx86 in a separate partition on your laptop in a dual boot setup, then you can boot android at startup instead of Windows instead of using an android emulator, it will be able to access your USB ports without needing extra configuration and it's much faster than using an emulator, similar to how KurtVV did in the thread linked below.
