Remote android desktop app - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi peeps, have seen plenty of apps allowing remote desktop from androids phone to windows PC. Just curious to know if anyone has info of an app for phone that allows remote access of another android device eg, my transformer. Thanx in advance for any info.

For example droid vnc server in your transformer and some vnc client in your phone?

Yes, the free VNC-Server on the market works well, but the VNC-Client I tried on my TF did not give me any opportunity to do swipe/drag gestures on the remotely controlled device which made it pretty hard to act in android. In addition, the phone I wanted to control ran Android 2.3, so the missing buttons were also a problem which made everything quite unusable. So I would say that you shouldn't expect to much of it.

i just found in development subforum droidmote an droidclient apps. Take a look at that thread

Splashtop works

Cheers guys will take a look and see how I get on. Just out of interest how did you you use splashtop? Only gives info on PC and Mac in the read up.

Splashtop clients are available for mobile and PC/Mac, but the server (streamer) is not available for Android.
I've used the free Android VNC server in the market on my old phone and a VNC client on my work station before....worked but not enough that I'd fancy using it with a Transformer if it can be avoided (most needs I have for that are done via SSH).

SSH? Can you expand on that?. Sorry of it seems a silly question.

There is an app called "Webkey" for android that basically allows you to remotely interact with your phone from a browser like through RDP or VNC. I think this is approximately what you're looking for. There is also an app called "Airdroid" that is similar in that you can control the phone/tablet from a browser, but its got its own UI rather than using the phones native UI.

Secure SHell (SSH), can be used to get a secure data stream between hosts, usually used for running a shell, file transfering, or forwarding ports.
In essense it gives you a "Command prompt" on another machine.
It can also be combined with the X Windows system, where in you run the program on another machine but it appears on your system. The ability to do that with the transformer however is more convoluted than a typical Linux box (and Windows NT apps are not programmed to support the X Windows System used on unix, linux, and bsd).
File transfers and port forwarding stuff however work pretty typically on the TF.

Windows network logon

Is there an app that will allow an Android phone to access a windows network?

Astro File Manager has an additional SMB module that you can download separately to use with AFM. I remember trying it way back when and it force closing on my old D1 but it may be working better now.
Samba wouldn't be that hard to set up either, I'm sure its already been done

ES file explorer and file expert are both free and do not require an extra plugin to access network shares. I've used then both and prefer es file explorer.
This post is infected with the 3D strain of Gingeritis
Thanks for the help. I think our guy wanted to actually log onto the server and control it like you can from a work station. I don't think that's possible.

You can use an RDC client. I have Windows server 2008 r2 on a pc and I have remoted in to it with ny thunderbolt. You would have to figure out the networking issues related to this setup but it can be done.
Is he talking VPN and remoting in via the mobile network?

I haven't tried a similar solution over WiFi but logmein ignition over the internet has saved me a few trips to an actual workstation. For me, well worth the price. Requires an agent on the controlled computer though.

I have been using Xtralogic Remote Desktop Client to do this and it works well.
The main problem is that it doesn't play well with VPN connections. It will access machines remotely that have the RDP service advertised on the external side of the network but you can't make a generic VPN connection and access machines across the tunnel.
The solution can be done two ways. One is to set up RDP Gateway on one of your servers and externally publish that address and port. The other is to externally publish EVERY address and port of each machine you want to access from the outside.
The first is easier than the second, but it still leaves a potential security risk. I wish that Xtralogic would fix the VPN issue. Even though it's a good RDP client they still don't seem to have the enterprise user in mind given this major design flaw.

Best Remote PC app

Hi peoples. I am in seach of the best remote pc app. I have currently tried:
Phonemypc: Which is currently my favorite remote pc app. Navigation is easy and it has a mouse function where you can slide your finger and see the mouse move. Frame rate isnt that great but it has the function to tap into the PC/Laptops camera and view from your mobile device, you can also tap into the mic and listen.
Splashtop HD: I also tried splashtop hd which is very laggy even on fast wifi. The image is alot more crisp, but its just very dificult to use. They claim 30+ fps but I couldnt get it to work that smoothly.
what is everyone else using to control their pcs?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
I've used splashtop with very little lag on good WiFi, and even decently on 3G. What's the upload speed on the wifi you are using your PC in?
PhoneMyPC does the job for my needs.
PhonemyPC on my phone, Teamviewer on my tablet.
Remote VNC
I am recommending Teamviewer.
HTML:

Of course on market is version for ANDROID.
I personally connect via VPN and then use the "2X" app to RDP to other servers.... With an external mouse, this combination works perfectly - just like you are sitting in front of a windows box. I use this mainly for support (I'm a unix admin by trade). Now, I never even need to open my laptop for after-hours support! By the time my laptop boots, I could have already got in and fixed the issue from my Transformer!
Wyse pocketcloud is absolutely amazing. I've been using it on my phone and tab for a long time now and never wanted to switch. Also free
Best I have used is Splashtop. I've used VNC, RAdmin, RDP, and X forwarding on various platforms and distances over the years and Splashtop has been the least laggy for me. I've been using the client included with my TF.

Spashtop is nice, but the problem is that you need to install a client on the remote PC.... RDP is nice becuase it's automatically available on all windows systems... If you are only connecting to one PC, I guess that's not a big deal, but for professional use, it's just too much of a pain (and security issue) to install a spashtop client on a bunch of PC's....
I use the Xtralogic RDP client. It's an amazing RDP app that does absolutely everything. I've tried dozens of different RDP apps and Xtralogic beats everything I've tried hands-down. It's a steep price on the market, but I found it for next-to-nothing on a third party app site.

Absolutely - I too use SSH for chararacter-based systems... But for Windows, the X2 app (which is free) is an excellent RDP app....
I use VMWare View. It requires you to have two windows server 2008 installations to do so(one as domain controller, and one in the domain).

What are the advantages of VMWare VIew - I've head of it, but don't know much about it - does it only work with VMWare, I'm assuming?
Thanks.
I create an SSH tunnel then connect using Xtralogic.
2x and PocketCloud Remote Desktop using VPN
I´m using 2X or PocketCloud Remote, which are working both flawlessly to connect to my Win 7 Desktop (when FW is disabled, eventhough exception for TCP 3389 is konfigured), using WLAN.
I´d like to use the apps, when i´m home by VPN (like jtrosky) but in this case, traffic from PocketCloud isn´t even arriving at my ethernet port, whereas traffic from 2X does, but the connection doesn´t establish.
Tracing on the Ethernetport on my PC with Wireshark, i see a TCP SYN-packet comming in from my Transformer, followed by a TCP connection reset-packet (RST ACK) from my PC, where there sould be SYN ACK-Packet. So the TCP 3-way-handshake doesn´t work out.
FW and other security stuff is disabled. Access to my NAS is no problem, so VPN should be the root of evil.
Anybody any ideas?
pcap-dumps attached.
THANKS!
For what it's worth, I'm going to change my RDP-app recommendation from 2X to Jump Desktop... I didn't think you could get any better than 2X (it is a great app), but Jump Desktop is even better! I *love* the fact that I can basically RDP to my remote server without even connecting to my VPN at all! It allows you to connect via the internet - as long as you load a "helper" app on the PC(s) that you want to connect to.
Works GREAT - it is now my go to app for remote connectivity!

That means, that you open a port on your router / FW, like using DYNDNS, right?
I like the idea, VPNing home and connecting to my PC from inside my LAN, - just feels more secure.
Greetings

Actually, that's the nice part - with Jump Desktop, you don't need to worry about any of that stuff - you just log in to your Google account (from inside the PC helper app) and then everything is automatic! No need to mess with port forwarding, DynDNS or anything like that - it's all automatic...
They have a free version - give it a shot - I think you'll like it!
Of course, you can always still connect to your VPN and use Jump Desktop to connect "directly" to your PC if you want to go that route. But, the option to be able to connect without VPN is a nice-to-have in case VPN access is down or something like that....

[Q] remote control asus transformer with galaxy s2

Hey,
I'm looking for a way to control my transformer using my galaxy s2
I'm running Prime 2.1 on my Asus.
And Rooted Stock on my Galaxy S-II
I Know that there is some option to use a VNC Server on my transformer and a VNC client on my phone but tried this with no luck.
The reason: The Transformer is connected to my TV and i want to control the playback and/or playlist ...
Thanks...
Have you tried this .... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1292627
Its in the themes and apps section y`know
Found it.
Okay so I have installed AndroMote and it works great .. thanks..
but it's kind of sluggish to move from using a phone as a mouse pad to another tab to use it as a keyboard.
They practicably the same device, isn't there a way to RDP or VNC or any type of remote connection to my transformer that will give me the same UI functionality ?
There is only 1 android vnc server I know of but its in beta version at the mo ... I havnt even tried it yet.
Surprising though as even iphone has vnc.

[REQ] Best app to get on a pc screen a real time image of my android device

In order to run demos and project (for large audiences) what appears on the screen of my Nexus S, I'm looking for the best app (not necessarily free) able to do that via USB or WiFi.
Have you addressed the same need in the past?
Any suggestion?
Thanks
P.S. Being able to do that without installing any special software on the pc would be a plus
VNC. e.g. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1476648

Run PC Desktop Remotely On Galaxy Note

I am looking for an app which, similar to Splashtop on the Google Play Store, will allow to me run my PC's (or in my case laptop's) desktop remotely from my Samsung Galaxy Note. I have tried a few so far and, based on what I have experienced with them, here is roughly what I am looking for in such an app...
Firstly, it is a great preference of mine (although not a necessity) that the application is free. Should this not be an option, just make sure your recommendations are not ridiculously priced.
I want an application which scales down my desktop, so that it fits in its entirety onto my device without a constant need to zoom in or out. Splashtop, as far as I am aware, does this but I ideally want a free app as I said.
Finally, I'd like for it to be capable of transmitting sound, so that I could play videos off of my computer's hard-drive or just check something in my iTunes collection.
Nobody has any ideas as to an application capable of this, or should I just buy Splashtop as it does apparently work rather well - no?
Buy it to support the developer then ask for the feature you want. If not just Google blackmart and get it there.

I don't condone piracy. No, I am willing to pay for Splashtop, but I have heard mixed things about it. Does anyone know of any better alternatives - especially if they are free?
I am using PocketCloud Remote RDP / VNC (free app) quite ok for me to remotely checking things on my home desktop. But I have no idea if sounds work for your need, please try it if you like. If you found this is helpful, then you can pay for the "PocketCloud Remote Desktop Pro " version which can be downloaded from www.coolapk.com which is a chinese site anyway.
Hope it helps.

I am using landscape mode on my GN usually when accessing my desktop, when it opens, home screen is 1024x768 automatically shrink to fit on my GN. But I usually shrink and enlarge in order to visit those parts of the screen I want.
By the way, I am using VNC client at home so it might have some limitation on controls. Have not tried RDP or Google Auto search. Let you to explore and let me know. Thanks.

PhoneMyPC works great for me, can use the phone as a touchpad, do full remote control, view the webcam and listen through mic, etc. Very feature rich and works every time. Did pay i think $15 for it.
