Yes, it is possible to get viruses or other malicious software from sources other than Google Play. That's mainly why you have to actually change a setting to allow unknown sources. That's not to say getting a virus from Google Play is impossible, just not likely. And it's good to not root for most people. It makes the device much more vulnerable. For any app people might be talking about on here or anywhere else, I'd recommend checking multiple reviews/ forums talking about it to make sure it isn't causing people trouble.
Hope this helps!

adb pull protection

Im trying to adb pull the phandroid news application from the protected folder and I guess I have the wrong command. Im entering adb pull /data/app-private/com.blau.android.phandroidnews.apk phandroidnewsbackup.apk and it doesnt seem to be working.
I am only doing this for learning purposes. Its a free app and I would like to make a backup for it so I can mess with it.
Thanks!!
sounds fishy. I don't think supplying the answer to you would be good for the community as a whole.
Dont know what you mean by that.
Just figured it out. Thanks anyways.
sounds a lot like asking for warez without actually asking for it. if i were a mod i would give you a warning, but i am not. just be warned that questions like that tend to get people banned

Sounds to me like he was asking for help... I don't know, that might just be me tho. I have that type of personality where I give people the benefit of the doubt. Maybe I am a dying breed in this world...
The app he is asking about is free... he is just wanting to know a way to back up his apps like we all did.
Since he figured it out I am going to close the thread.

[Q] Youtube needs root?

Hey guys, I've googled and searched and didn't seem to find anything... This is the first and only time I've ever even seen anything like this...
HTC Inc S running Ehab's Runnymede... Youtube is asking for root permissions.
I'm not sure whats going on, but I could REALLY use a hand... I don't want to risk a hacking if thats whats happening...

make hardreset and maybe you fix this problem...
thank you, I'd like to try that but in all reality, i may as well just update my rom since there's a new version would that work?
If an app like that asked me for root permissions i'd just assume it's malware of some sort personally. Youtube shouldn't require root access. Try to contact the chef who made the ROM and ask for an explanation.
To be clear, this is a youtube that is cooked into the ROM? Not one you've added yourself, right?
Youtube app doesn't need root phone.
If you install that app from some webpage maybe it's a malware.
Be careful!
Thanks
Hey everyone! I was thinking the same, but I denied the root permission, and got no glitch or issue. I'm starting to think it was a bug, either way I have to find a way to contact ehabfs... the chef, since I've had a few issues and can't report bugs... what with the limit.
Anyhow Thank you all! i'm re-flashing either this release or next anyhow.

attention towards samsung galaxy core max needed.

Guys, I'm a fan of XDA. They literally support every mobile.
However, idk why this 'chinise' model of Samsung isn't talked about.
I mean out of the Samsung galaxy core family, gt5108w out rules them out. However , its only available in China. Now many of us are stuck with this. No play store is installed, no Google services etc. Many of us weren't aware that Chinese phones don't have gapos installed and hence, we suffer.
So I'd like if any of you guys could make some developments of this model. Like a custom recovery to install gapps would be nice.
Generally, when a certain model isn't getting development attention, it's simply because there are insufficient developers who own it, or not enough users to make devs feel it's worth the effort. Just asking someone to do it won't do the trick.
One solution would be for you to learn how it works and try it yourself. That's actually how a lot of xda devs got started: because they wanted something and no one else was doing it.
You can install play store manually

Good question, I'm thinking of a P40 Pro and whilst Im happy with not having google im wondering how secure the apps are that dont come from Huaweis own app store.
I'd assume that they must have put some kind of security measures in place when openly dealing with 3rd part APK sites.

Hey there! I've been using a P40 Pro for a month or so now and I haven't had any issues with Petal Search. When you install an app it says it's scanning it so I think it's secured by the device software itself. If anyone else knows more though feel free to correct me!

Assistance needed. Please help.

Hello everyone. To those out there that have already begun to help me and respond you have my sincerest thanks. I originally started this adventure just trying to get my pixel 6 to stop messing with my music settings and volume. Now I want to learn everything I can about all of this. In as broad and vague a term as that is. I wanna know how to do all of the things y'all know how to do. Please be patient as I'll probably ask some of the most irritating questions over the most basic stuff. Like what's this and what's that. Anyways thank you guys for the help so far and for having me.

I would recommend to start reading on your devices section, if no device you might check general section for starters.
Enjoy!

Hey guys. Sorry about the horrible response time. Life been hectic recently. But no I have not set up a adb. I don't even know what that does entirely or the purpose of it. I almost bricked my pixel 6 several times already messing with things I didn't understand so I'm taking it slow and trying to be informed now

I got a pixel 6. Not the pro. Nope I haven't even tried to do the adb yet as I'm not entirely sure of what it does or the purpose of it. As of right now nothing too specific. I'd like to know what the adb does and it's purpose and I'd like to eventually get to root this thing so I can have better control. So many options are greyed out for me that I know for a fact weren't recently. The settings I do change end up reverting back sometimes almost as soon as I leave the app. Settings for me is always crashing when i do something Google doesn't approve of. It's driving me bananas. Sometimes I'll literally sit here for hours fighting with this damned thing just to do something simple like play my music at the eq settings I want.

If that's how I need to be able to scrub this device of these system apps then I'm all ears. I've got like 300 something. Most of them are those weird 0 byte ones.

Yes. You can remove system apps. Do not go crazy though, if you delete a needed app your device could soft brick.
How to uninstall pre-installed system apps (bloatware) from Android phones without root
Android phones from most brands come with at least some amount of bloatware or unwanted apps. These could be in the form of common apps like Google Play Movies, Netflix & Facebook, or some truly useless junk. Some brands allow users to uninstall the bundled apps while others make them system...

Adb can be done on a PC. It is possible from your device without pc but it costs money and works way worse.

Is there a list of the system apps for a pixel 6 and what exactly they pertain to?
Not exactly any list. Pixels have the least bloat of any phones I know. Use a list with a file manager or app list app. Delete what seems unneeded. If in doubt, keep.
You can also get debloater which allows you to uninstall with one clcik. It is installed on your pc. You can google to find it.
Some things you can uninstall are Easter eggs, game optimization services, apps that you don’t need that you can see. Don’t delete any needed system services, settings, anything you think the phoen needs to function. Also, ones you uninstall, you can reinstall, but getting bricked and having to enter adb mode and finding what you need to reinstall is very frustrating and panicky (forgot the word).
App list app? So to do the adb the right way I get on my PC and do what?
I know what you mean. Messing with this thing I've already "soft bricked" it over 5 times. Longest was for bout 2 days. I don't know how to do safe boot or adb mode so it took me fiddling with it and messing with even more **** I don't get to fix it. Managed to not have to resort to factory reset tho. Kinda proud of myself for that.
Will I need to carrier unlock this before I do anything? My oem thing in developer settings is still gray. I know I'm still carrier locked.

Try googling the combos
This ia the intro section, you better search and post on the devices section.
Ps. To orb. If you saying you recommended I check out those other sections (which I did and they helped a lot) was you meaning for me to move my thread, I apologize. I didn't know that's what you meant. Thought it was as you stated, just check em out.
