[Q] Youtube needs root? - General Questions and Answers

Hey guys, I've googled and searched and didn't seem to find anything... This is the first and only time I've ever even seen anything like this...
HTC Inc S running Ehab's Runnymede... Youtube is asking for root permissions.
I'm not sure whats going on, but I could REALLY use a hand... I don't want to risk a hacking if thats whats happening...

make hardreset and maybe you fix this problem...

thank you, I'd like to try that but in all reality, i may as well just update my rom since there's a new version would that work?

If an app like that asked me for root permissions i'd just assume it's malware of some sort personally. Youtube shouldn't require root access. Try to contact the chef who made the ROM and ask for an explanation.
To be clear, this is a youtube that is cooked into the ROM? Not one you've added yourself, right?

Youtube app doesn't need root phone.
If you install that app from some webpage maybe it's a malware.
Be careful!

Thanks
Hey everyone! I was thinking the same, but I denied the root permission, and got no glitch or issue. I'm starting to think it was a bug, either way I have to find a way to contact ehabfs... the chef, since I've had a few issues and can't report bugs... what with the limit.
Anyhow Thank you all! i'm re-flashing either this release or next anyhow.

New to Android, just afew quick questions

Hello everyone,
Ive been trying to follow this forum for a little while now, in hopes of learning abit about rooting my Inspire once i got it. I just got the phone today and think im ready to jump into my first root.
My questions are:
Is rooting absolutlety neccesary for me? My main goals are deleting the bloatware and enabling mobile hotspot.
Ive been reading about some issues with audio. If i follow the instructions in the hack kit, will the phone function the same after root as it did before?
Any tips at all for a first timer? Im not interested in changing the UI or anything like that. I just wanna remove all the bloatware junk, and enable mobile hotspot, and third party apps.
Ill keep reading and searching the forums as much as possible to answer my own questions, just thought id put this out there encase anyone had tips.
Many thanks!!
i just noticed this had been moved. Shouldnt i have posted this in the development forum with the other root stuff?

You will need to root unless you want to pay for the hot spot. If you use the hack kit you will have an unlocked phone not carrier oriented no bloat ware at all.

attn1 has made the process extremely easy with the new update..
As for tips..keep searching, I'm always finding new stuff all the time. As for rooting, just follow the instructions to a T and you will have no problem whatsoever, attn1 has an irc chat and the guys over there can help if you run into any problems. I'm not 100% sure, I'm sure someone can verify but I don't think you need to flash a new rom after you're rooted, I did just because if I was gonna go through the entire process I might as well try one..I'm now on my 3rd rom, it's just a lot of fun to try them all out at least once to get a feel for each.

I would say look into the dev forums for the inspire. But like everyone say read up on the roms that you may like I have tried a lot roms but for me ninja has been working the best for me, but that's me. But their is a lot of roms that are wonderful. I think their is a new root method in dev for inspire. But I used at the time bubbys method.
But if you have any ?s p m me I don't mind helping out new inspire.users

That's what I used as well. Worked wonderfully
Also, if you would like some screenshots of the rooting step, you can also refer to this guide, which has general instructions and also mentions Bubby's method as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033353
You'll also notice that guide tells you to wipe the Dalvik Cache, in addition to deleting all user data. attn1's instructions didn't include wiping Dalvik Cache, but from reading around, I think you should. The more "cleaner" your phone can be, the less you'll have to worry about once you flash the new ROM
Hope this helps!

Auto root.

http://forum.androidcentral.com/thunderbolt-rooting-roms-hacks/77617-auto-root-unroot-windows.html
just passing it along. i know some are afraid to use adb i myself would recommend using it to know the basic of adb but if not well here it is. GL
i do know its a heated debate with auto and manual etc. don't hate the messenger.
I love auto-rooters for myself. I've done 3 different phones via ADB because I wasn't going to wait, but if I lose root for whatever reason, an auto rooter sure is nice.
I think everybody should root via ADB before they ever root with an auto rooter, though.

Nice find, thank you.
That soft bricked me so I did it manually

And to think I just did the manual root yesterday.. D'oh! Well, good to learn some of the stuff I did, I guess. Thanks OP for passing it along.
Anyone know if the 'unroot' process will still unroot if you rooted it the manual way?
Thanks will root my phone tomorrow using this

as far as I know, just loading the stock PG05.img (or whatever the name is) in bootloader will return you to stock
and, auto-root is great, but will lead to so many more of the "I bricked my phone" type threads from people that don't know what they are doing...

anyone interested in rooting should know how to access their phone via adb. if the auto root process goes bad, adb is the only tool available
Rooting manually via ADB or rooting via auto root?
That's a discussion folks should flesh out and really chew on. It's not been discussed enough here in the past and is a highly neglected topic that deserves many original posts such as the ones above this one. Let's get this debate going and see if we can tread some new ground.
Sucks
No matter what method of root I try to use it always says device error, so its not connecting, any suggestions?

I hear you. I rooted and flashed the hell out of my Nexus One but have held off with the TB. Rooting and flashing Sense ROMs on my N1 is what made me want the TB in the first place.
That said, I would like to use cache-mate and ad-free. This ROM is also tempting me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013577
I have to hold off tho. They are getting ready to flip the 4G switch in my area soon an I want to be stock when that happens because when I root I want to know how my device is supposed to behave when stock. That way I'll know if an issue I am having is a TB/Verizon issue or a flashed ROM/Kernel/Radio/root issue.
Rooting on the N1 was a no-brainer given the lack of app space and the urgent need for A2SD. Given the ability to move some apps to SD now, plus the TB's extra app storage space, the need for more storage just isn't there for me with the TB. And believe it or not, for me personally, flashing ROMs and kernels got old in and of itself. Every ROM is different, but I can never find the perfect one and always end up wishing I could cherry pick features from a variety of ROMs. I felt like a damn nomad going from one ROM to the next.

There is nothing to discuss.
If you are doing any type of hack you are doing so at your own risk, assuming all responsibility to anything that may happen to your phone, and you should take it upon yourself to learn, at the very least, the basics of adb and its command functions.
I am attempting to make the process as painless as possible, no where in my thread do i call it easy or simply . I call it auto root because its Automated.
I am not saying im not noob friendly because if you know me you know thats not true i spend many many hours helping people, im just saying that if you are attempting a hack that you should know what you are getting yourself into.

This is a connection problem, make sure HTC sync is installed. Make sure you are in debugging mode and it is set to stay awake, make sure you are in USB setting Charge only. Use the USB ports in the back of the computer
id none of that works, try a different,USB port, cable or different computer.

It was a joke man. It's been discussed here ad nauseum...plus, don't you think it's a little ironic that you create an auto root app where the user DOES NOT NEED TO LEARN OR USE one single manual ADB command, while at the same time preaching that users should learn ADB?
the only reason you say this stuff is to pay lip service to your developer clique about ADB and noobs, then you turn right around and give noobs a manual ADB free root app.
don't get me wrong, I appreciate it as much as anyone, but the irony is a little thick here.

this is automated for anyone, where does it say in my thread, this is for noobs?
so because something is posted or because its easy to use its automatically hypcritical? . this is for anyone. i know that if i return to stock that i am not going to want to have to type out every command just to root again.
so if what you are saying it true then no one should post anything that makes the process easy for other people.
Did you install the drivers?

Hey man like I said I appreciate it...but some developers on this forum drone on and on about how easy manual ADB is and that there is no need for automated root apps. If you already know ADB there is really no point in the automated app except to save, what, typing??
The automated app still takes almost as long...it just saves typing...and the risk of a mistake. That has been my point all along.
AGAIN, I highly appreciate your app and work...I just wish devs would stop harping on the need to lean ADB when it's not needed thanks to apps like yours. For whatever reason there is this clique of devs who think if you don't know ADB you don't "deserve" root access. It's lame.
But let's be real here: 90% of the users that will use your app are rooting noobs. The experienced users did it manually on day one.

im in no clique of devs i dont even know if anyone likes me lol. im not saying you should be an expert. but you should know how to use adb because at some point a problem may happen and automation doesnt let you trouble shoot very well. Im not hard core either way adb or no adb. but with any hack sometimes the only way to save yourself from a phone becoming useless is through adb..
thanks for the appreciation,,,,oh and not for nothing, i would rather watch a show then have to be putting in line after line of commands , then on commercial i can just flash the ruu

[Q] urgent

Dear sir
I wonder, what do I get from rooting my x10 ?
Smh wtf omg
Really I want some one to tell me, I am new and I have no clue at all
Please
View attachment 679006
I guess motivation is out of fashion these days. :/
First of all, this isn't "urgent".
Second of all, if you don't know why then don't do it. If you have to go searching for reasons (okay, I don't think you searched... so asking) then there's no reason. You'll void your warranty and, if you don't know what you're doing, possibly brick your phone. Is it worth doing that just because you can?
When I started researching rooting, I knew why. I had a ton of reasons why, and I have even more now that I've done it. Surprisingly, tethering has never been one, and I've still yet to use it despite being rooted for about 8 months.
If you have real reasons to do it, then read everything you can before doing so. I would even read my device's Q&A forum just so I'd have the answers ahead of time.
Honestly, I don't think you should. While it opens a lot of options, it's not something you do "just because".
I would give you reasons, but if you really want to root you need to learn to search, read, and understand for yourself.

Plainjane is correct, I highly suggest research into this subject a lot more before doing anything.

I am gonna try and say this as nicely as I can. Please do not take this personal.
We need more info before we can help. Rom? Radio? What you did before you noticed this problem. You said you used the AHK and still the same, does this mean that this happened when you were still on stock?
Now I emplore you please understand completely what you are doing before you do it. Would you try and install a new OS on your PC just by a video on the internet or from someones word without looking into and doing some reading? Well I hope not Flashing a rom on your phone is the same thing. You are loading a custom OS on to it and removing the old. Is it easy? Far easier then it should be. Is it dangerous? Yup. Stupidity and rushing always are (not personal). Is it for everyone? No (because what alot of people I have noticed dont understand is that custom roms will ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, Did I say always lol have bugs and need tweaks. This is what we do. A true developer is never happy. If they got to the point of being happy then there would be nothing left to do. Yeah lol not likely. So flashing updates sometimes on an hourly basis is what happens.) Plus not everyone needs root access or a custom rom for what they use the phone for. They flash it cause they want to be cool like everyone else. This is where the issues start. The see a video and come here and start at it and boom they end up with a brick that cant be fixed or returned. Then they come here complaining and yelling about how this bricked their device when it was their own stupidity (yes I consider reprogramming any OS without reading plain out stupid no offence) That caused it.
So in closing please provide as much info as you can about a problem you are having. Including all steps you took to try and fix it. But even before that read the stickies. Hell do what i did and copy the info to a text file and print it out and read it when you have time This will save you, other members, me, and everyone else a ton of time, resources, and hair. lol

I bought a new HTC INSPIRE 4g from amazon it was unlocked. Because i am not american citizen i am from Europe i didn't try if it works properly with american's AT&T , but when i came back in my country i saw that i can not make calls from the phone i haven't done anything before that , so i read in that web site about the hack-ace and before that a guy that i met on the street with the same phone told me that he used this for his phone. So i read the manuel , everything went fine but there was no effect , i had did Karnel's thing. Everything is exactly the same. I dont know about the "Radio". It means that it happened. The Inspire should work on EDGE on my network -- PROVED.
And the other thing is i am web developer and i must admit i am not that into this thing, i can write application but haven't done something like this before, but i read a lot of before "hack" the phone.

Which files / tutorial will I need

First off, I got to say I love yu XDA guys...I've never had any issue rooting something with a tutorial from here.
Problem is, I've read so many links on this phone, now I'm confused....and can't seem to get back to what I read. I just left Verizon in favor of Metro and got this phone for FREE during a promotional period about two weeks ago....so I really don't want to do anything stupid and brick it.
It's the 700T1 variant and the build is MMB29K.J700T1UVU2APK6 if that will help. If someone would just point this total noob to the right tutorial for this I'd appreciate it. It doessn't have a gyrosope sensor and I've read there are ways to trick it in to thinking it does, but of course you have to have root - and my kid and I want to play Pokemon Go so that we can actually see the little guys on our street, in our park, etc. Thanks!
Also, does anybody know if the "quick roots" work (Kingo Root, etc). What have / did you have success with?
