This may seem like a redundant request but if you are or are GOING to be deving for this device could you post your Twitter or G+ id's here so we can follow your work?
That would be great.
+1 ...we fought for a forum...now no development...kinda disheartening.
I guess I need to get back with it now that I have kernel source...
You could follow me all you want, but you probably won't like where I'll lead. I usually don't bother with twitter, g+, facebook, or any other "social" site. (On the other hand, if you find any anti-social sites, please let me know.)
need to brainwash the tab8.9/10.1 developers to do the custom ROMs for us as well..
btw, what are we looking for in a new custom ROM?
EXT4, i think Samsung already moved to this...
Optimization
- Hardware Acceleration? Already ON by default in Honeycomb, I have done this mod and no difference at all.. it depends on the app to utilize this feature...
Theming ? Once rooted, you can modify the framework files.. should be quite easy, but abit time consuming... and requires creativity...
- Bloat removal? just ROOT and remove those excess fats..

My two yr old son plays fruit ninja and the calculator/calendar/etc opens. I bet a lot ofyou experience the same annoyance of the bottom bar mini apps not having the option to hide or lock on games and other apps on fullscren.
I'm not likely to be getting the device but I'm gonna stop by and help out to get things off the ground.
In terms of speed of development, keep in mind this thing "soft launched" in the US - I didn't even know until a few days ago that it was available at all. It's typical for a device to take a few weeks to get off the ground, the I777 was an unusual exception due to being 95%+ identical to the I9100 and being a majorly anticipated handset launch.
I'm going to start on something here soon, buy this will be my first developing for any device, so you prob won't want to follow anything I do, its gonna be slow and buggy

You can use "Honeybar" ROOT from the Android Market. It lets you hide the bar in Honeycomb.

Hi all,
I just got my hands on a galaxy tab 7.0 plus and was hoping to build a rom for its community (no one has really built a rom for 7.0, its a small community and we just got CWM).
Ideally I'd like to kang together a stock Honeycomb 3.2 rom, free of touchwiz. I was hoping to port over one of the Google I/O Roms for the 10.1. I figure our devices are close enough that I can try tossing over the build props, make sure to use the boot/recovery images from the 7.0 and maybe, just maybe, get lucky. Or at least have a good start.
The problem is that I can't seem to find any of the Google I/O roms, past 3.1. Do those device not get updates? Is there another Touchwiz free rom I can start from? I remembering reading a while back that TWUX is an optional update for the 10.1. I've been looking around, but I'm have a heck of a time finding links that clearly imply I'm dling a Touchwiz free rom. Most of the just say "Stock" which is a bit ambiguous.
If someone would be kind enough to point me to an ODIN and CWM mod version of the sorta rom I'm looking for I'd be greatly appreciative(and hopefully if I can get this out the door, so will 7.0 community)
Thanks!

I am starting up a new site and I would really like to see what people opinions are of it.
I have been talking to a few developers and users on here about it and there seems to be some interest.
It basically organizes Recent Rom releases from XDA by Make, Model, Dev, OS, etc. I feel like it would be a quicker way for users to see whats new with there phones.
It still uses the Developers links, info, images, Donation code, links back to XDA threads ,etc.
I am willing to put the time in to make it great if there is a need for it.
So let me know!

Seems like it could prove to be helpful. Go for it.
Its sounds very nice idea.. I visited ur site and i founded it very promising.!!!

As most developers host their own roms on private servers to watch and control downloads many will not be willing to allow their work to be posted in a place where they have no control. Think about it for a min. If a dev releases a rom with a major bug like bricking a device they can pull it. This has been tried many times already and has never gone anywhere.
People flash roms like it is something cool to do without thinking about what could happen. Flashing an Expermental OS to a $500 device is not something to be done for fun with no understanding of what they are doing.
I understand what your saying. The site still uses all the Download links the devs provided so if they pull the download it will just be a deadlink. But yeah the management of actually pulling the ROM from the site would be a hassle. Plus judging from the results of this thread there doesn't seem to be that much interest in the idea. haha

Seems to be useful. Many users try to get stable ROM's for their mobiles.
I would suggest to add "stable" and "experimental" ROM's category tab in the site for each mobile you provide.
Also get permission from the developers before posting their download links on your site!
Good Luck with your site!:good:
The Stable/experimental attribute is a good idea. I have been contacting developers asking permission and so far no one has had a problem with anything :fingers-crossed:
Thanks!

No, it is not. And while I can't speak too much about it, it's not just a side-load onto any device. So don't be holding your breath about someone uploading the APK and getting all the features running this week.
right....because it sooo hard to make rudimentary changes to a launcher.
The APK is called Dashboard.apk. It resides in /system/app and can be launched as a normal app.
?? Then why did you say the opposite not 2 posts ago?

Let me know when you get this working, since you love trolling. One of us has been helping everyone to the largest extent they can. The other is just demanding a bunch of stuff since he doesn't want to buy one himself.
I will personally post the full system image tonight if it isn't already uploaded by then. And you can go to town, I'm seriously curious about how much you can get working this week, since its obviously so easy.

You're the one going around posting false information. And asking for a system dump is not "demanding a bunch of stuff".
If you want to get into a pissing match about who's done more to help the XDA community, you're gonna lose. I've done alot more than post some roms for the EVO 3D. If anyone's a troll here its you.
And 20x more people have found my comments helpful. So you're still trolling. What false info have I given?
Unlike you i'm not a thanks whore, and the thanks meter wasn't even implemented when I started posting on XDA. I have released numerous firmware images and sbf files that would otherwise have not been obtainable, saving countless devices in the process(See the technician only Xoom recovery file that was the only way to restore a bricked Xoom for months after release). That's a little more important to me than some likes.
Oh and False info? You just said not a few moments ago it runs like a normal app.
Now now boys, calm down.
I must admit I am on legions side on most of his points so far. This is a community forum for the general public and what we do here is Share and Mod. I do believe "agrabren" that as you are part of the Nvidia team you don't want to see parts of your product ported and such, but the product is now in the hands of the user and so now it is up to us what we do with our purchases.

It didn't occur to me that I might need to explain that in more detail, but in hind-sight, it does need clarification. What I mean, and meant from the beginning, is that the framework doesn't issue any "magic" to launch that app. There's no special "back-door" entry into that APK which makes it work on the device, nor is the Intent anyway modified. My natural instinct is to distrust every aspect of a system app that doesn't sideload correctly. In this case, I gave extra insight into areas of attack on getting the APK to load on other devices by eliminating one method a company could use for an app that has a special method of launch (the center button on the device).
So my statement, properly clarified, is that the APK itself has nothing special about it in regards to Intent launching or its AndroidManifest.xml, but that without some efforts with other components, will not run directly on another device, especially one based on a non-Tegra device.

Great, except I've actually been trying to help most people with most parts of ROM sharing and modding. I've already said that I'm going to post the OTA1 system and boot images, in their official entirety, as well as I'll probably post a rooted version as well. I've been helping people prevent bricking their devices.
If you'd rather I just go away, I'm happy to. But I wouldn't expect anyone else from NVIDIA to be reaching out to get CM10.2 up and running on this device, or to get a custom recovery up and running quickly. I've never objected to him getting the system image, I'm all for it being uploaded and even promised to do so. I'm trying to help clarify what will work easily and what won't. I even answered the question that nobody else had, the APK he's asking for (because he didn't know the name of it) is Dashboard.apk, and it resides in /system/app. His contributions right now to the SHIELD forums on XDA are: Give me the system image, give me some APKs that may be on the device! That rubs me the wrong way as a person who has spent plenty of time developing ROMs for different phones, helping fix kernels for multiple CM-supported devices, and who has *always* fought for companies to give to the community. Unlockable bootloader? Yeah, I was part of that push. I'm trying my best to get as much source as possible made public.
Maybe I came off poorly in this thread (because this was after the thread asking for an apk that has only been demoed at tradeshows and special press meetings). So I'm sorry if I came off wrong, but while everyone else is helping each other out, he's just demanding stuff.
I what world do you live in that posting a thread asking for a system image and a possibly pre-loaded app qualifies as "demanding stuff"? Why should I have to have done anything to be worthy of your approval to post such a thread?
There is a huge conflict of interest with you both working for Nvidia and unofficially releasing official firmware and hacks, so frankly no, I don't trust you being involved in this devices xda development.

So a guy who doesn't own the device is not going to trust ROMs I make for a device he doesn't own. Oops, no loss to me. You can go back to trolling, I'm done with your thread. You have your system image and boot image in either manner you want it.
Oops, my bad. It wasn't your thread, you just came into this thread to troll me. My mistake.
Raptor, if you check in the Android Development section, you'll find the system images. I'd suggest the ZIP version, because it's both smaller and already extracted. The system.img is an uncompress image to be flashed via fastboot in case someone messes up their system or boot partitions.
The information I have been able to find here and on the web for this device is rather old, so I am doing this thread in hopes of receiving some new information.

I see this thread, and would like to try it but would appreciate updated information regarding it, as the last post is nearly 3 years old. Is this thread still correct? Is this the best answer for the Crossover?
I've seen stuff I'd like to try but am not the one to be the first. I'd like to not brick my device.
Is this phone capable of installing Replicant or CyanogenMod? Their sites do not list it as being able but also possible is that nobody cares about it.
Is there something else that would be better for this device? It is kinda weak, especially by today's standards. I really only use it to play music and voice record, but it can do more, I am sure. What is some possible recommendations for this device besides just using the stock OS?
I recently did a factory reset on it and found to my surprise that the play store no longer works. It has 'market' installed but the market app crashes. I found f-droid and am relatively happy with it but would like to make the most of the device. Your expert opinion on it would be very helpful. Thanks.

Hi friimynd. I couldn't find much information about your device here so I recommend just posting in that thread if you can't find any updated information. Your device is not that common here so there aren't that many topics to pick from.
I am seeking an app that would make the power button also the volume button. I have come across several apps that make the volume button turn into the power button but none for the power. Also does anyone know where to get a replacement sim card tray for the PVG100 or if a sim tray from another device would work in it. Thanks
Hi guys!
I think I found the source code/bootloader for the PVG100. After a whole lot of digging, I now have this .zip from the founder himself, and it is for the original 2018 firmware, not with any of the updates. I'll attach it below.
I am definitely a novice tinkerer, not a developer. I don't have any of the skills or tools to make a custom ROM, though I very much want one to remove the bloatware and enable hotspot tethering etc. Stormskeeker, could you please post whatever you have managed to find so far, or explain how you have been able to tweak it?
I also have a couple of these that are inoperable for various reasons that I have thoroughly dissected. So if anyone needs to buy any of my spare parts, or wants to just know more about the Palm's guts, then hit me up!
This is SUCH a rad little phone. Biggest complaint by far is battery life, and I would LOVE if someone help me figure out how to power this phone with a bigger battery. I found a Oneplus battery has the same connector, but it won't work when I connect it (unless it's plugged in to a wall adapter)... does this have something to do with the firmware not accepting a different battery? Does Anyone know how I can get around this??

Questions about how to root this device are relevant, but you didn't ask about that in your previous post, did you? No, you didnt, you asked an irrelevant question about the SIM tray that has nothing to do with XDA or what we do here.
My point is, this forum is about android software development and Windows mobile software development. Given that fact, questions posted here in this Palm pvg 100 thread should be questions about Palm pvg 100 software. Your question is about your device's manufacturer and their practices concerning the SIM tray issue. That question is irrelevant here at XDA because it has absolutely nothing to do with android, android software development, Windows mobile, Windows mobile development or the software on your Palm pvg 100.
Sure, your question is related to the Palm pvg 100, but that doesn't mean anything.
If this were an automobile repair forum, the question you posted would be like going to an automotive repair forum to ask why Toyota has stopped making a certain part or making that part available to the public. How would the people in the forum know why Toyota is doing that? They, wouldn't, Toyota would. What could the people in that forum actually do about the availability of that part? Absolutely nothing. So why waste your time asking them if they don't know and can't do anything about it? Do you see my point now?
If you want to know if there is a known rooting method for your device, do a Google search for:
"How to root (your model number)"
If that doesn't find anything, there is not a known rooting method for that device. If you find nothing, you'll have to experiment for yourself to find working method.
If searching doesn't find anything specific, you'll have to try the various universal rooting programs on PC or the various android rooting apps, try all of them that you can possibly find.
If the universal rooting programs or apps don't work, you can try finding a copy of your stock firmware, then extract the boot.img from the firmware then use Magisk on PC to patch the boot.img then flash that boot.img on your device then install the Magisk Manager app on your device. But, if your bootloader is locked, you will not be able to flash the patched boot.img.
If you want to know how to flash your device, do a google search for:
"How to flash stock firmware (your model number)"
Or
"Return to stock (your model number)"
That should find guides for flashing your device.
Notice that the Google searches are simple and to the point,
"How to (the thing you're looking for) (your model number)"
It isn't difficult to use Google to find answers, you just have to keep your search terms simple and direct.

XDA itself is not involved in which devices do or don't get support or custom development.
It is up to the community of members, it is the members that figure out rooting methods and it is members that create the custom developments that are available here. It isn't like XDA has a team of people that are tasked with developing for every single android device model that is created/sold.
Devices that do not have known rooting methods or have no custom development of any kind are due to several reasons, such as:
1) there are not enough users in the community that own the device
2) the device has no stock firmware available and/or does not have a stock source code that is available to the public. Without these, custom ROMs can not be created.
3) there are no users or developers with the experience or skills to create custom software that own the device. Developers only build for devices they personally own and real developers don't buy cheap, off-brand, unpopular devices. If someone here owned a device like yours and had the skills to build ROMs, there would probably already be ROMs for your device.
If your device does not have a stock firmware that is available and has no stock source code available and you do not have the necessary developer skills, you are out of luck when it comes to customizing your device or ever seeing custom development for your device.
If your stock source code was available, you could have tried paying a developer to develop ROMs your device, but it would have required you buying another device like yours and sending that device to the developer so they could use it for testing what they build before releasing their development to the community here.
If you really want to blame someone, blame yourself for buying a device that no developer would ever care about working with.
If you want to be able to customize a device, here is some advice.
1) don't buy cheap, low end, off brand, unpopular devices, it doesn't have to be an expensive flagship device, there are some decent mid-range devices that receive custom development.
2) don't buy a device that does not have stock firmware available and/or has no stock source code available.
3) you are going about it all wrong, don't go buy a device and then come here looking to see if anything is available here for the device. Come here first and see what devices have available development here and what those developments are and use that information to choose which device to go buy and THEN go buy the device.
So, you see, there is a lot more to the story than just.....

Whether or not the stock firmware and stock source code is available or not is absolutely essential to building custom ROMs.
Ok, have it your way then. Continue wasting your time and money on devices that will probably never have anything posted here to root or modify them.
As I said, not all devices get rooting methods and custom development posted here, only the ones owned by people who had the experience to root the device and/or build custom ROMs, they find a rooting method for their device themselves then post the method here or they create custom development for their device themselves then post it here.
You don't understand how things actually work here or where the information posted here actually comes from. It comes from users just like you and I that figure it out for themselves if nothing is here and then post it here for others. There is no way to know which devices will gain root until AFTER it has already been figured out, we can not know BEFORE. We can not look into the future and predict when or if "this" or "that" device will have a rooting method discovered, it can't be done, so there is no point in asking "When will this device have root?" because an answer to that question does not exist.
No one knows which devices will receive development or rooting methods. That depends on who buys one of the devices and if they decide to modify the device, if they have the knowledge to do so.
You will just have to wait and see.
In my honest opinion, that device will probably never have anything useful posted here. I can go ahead and tell you that device is, more than likely, not popular enough to receive support here at XDA.
If you feel like you would like to try and learn how to root the device and learn how to develop custom ROMs and such, by all means, go ahead. You will probably gain root and have custom development for your device sooner if you just do it yourself. Your only other option is to wait to see if someone else figures something out that works on your device, which isn't very likely to happen any time soon. It doesn't matter how cool the device is or what the specs are, if no one with experience buys the device, it doesn't get support in this community.
By the way, depending on the security measures that have been implemented in your devices stock firmware, adb can be used to remove bloatware without root.
Do a Google search for:
"Remove bloatware without root"
You'll find lots of information about using adb to remove bloatware.
Good luck

You can disable (for all) or "uninstall" for the current user most the bloatware. A few things are tied to receiving SMS but you can read about the ones you can safely remove in the battery life thread I created. That thread assumes you're not too bothered about automatic updates as they are pushed by verizon.
www (i.e. google) also works for replacement SIM tray for Palm PVG 100. js.

....dude...whatever you're trying to ask or trying to do, I can guarantee that this is NOT the forum to do it in. Please don't post on this site anymore unless you have done your research into the topic first, by reading what others have posted, and what info is available for your device. Posting is primarily for discussion and contribution. If everyone just posts any random questions they have without even googling it first, then the threads become completely flooded and then unhelpful for those who are actually trying to discuss something.
And fyi, we are still working on a root solution. We have a temp root, but can't get into the bootloader.

If the phone hasn’t a permanent root yet, does that mean no apks can be extracted from it?
I’m looking to try and figure out how to get the palm launcher on my own device, but I don’t see anyone’s who ported it or extracted it as of yet, and I’d hate to ask someone to try if I know they aren’t able to.

As long as you do it while the device is rooted, you shouldn't have a problem.

Thank you, got it on my device!
For anyone trying this themselves, I had to decompile the app, modify the manifest and remove the sharedUserId, and recompile and resign to get it to install. Then I had to give it secure settings permissions via root so it wouldn't crash.
Since my phone is larger and a has a QHD display, the apps were a bit small and it didn't fit well. Changing DPI did not fix, the launcher seems to only look at resolution, not DPI. So, I then changed the resolution of my device to match the Palm and decreased my dpi to make other apps still usable. Not sure what the default palm DPI and text size are, but I found a happy medium for me.
Only issue is for some reason the google search bar up top doesn't appear on the home screen but I can still click the area and get to search, not sure why, but works well otherwise. The left pane on the home screen is also black but I don't know what's supposed to go there. Probably some other dependency I don't know about. Widget pane on the right works though.
Overall pleased, thanks again!
Edit: got it to work perfectly by setting is as a privileged app and turning off dark mode. Left side pane is google now page, and top search bar now appears properly.
Hello, Is there a way to edit the APN. It seems to be locked.
