How to install OTA updates in rooted device (K8 Plus) - Android General

How to update your phone even after unlocking your phone without losing data in Lenovo K8 Plus?
There is a pretty simple trick for those who wanted to update to latest firmware & already unlocked their device.
First unroot & if you flashed xposed then xposed uninstaller too then use fastboot to flash stock recovery, boot & system & then do the OTA update & Voila your data will not loose and you just get update.
To do it download stock firmware click below
HTML:
https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1YexKxunNYF_RemzFmvHpoSgp8eELebqY&export=download
Password:-
[email protected] Developers
Extract this firmware.
Then you'll find several files there just copy system.img, boot.img, recovery.img to adb folder and then put your phone in fastboot mode and then type:-
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
After this power it up download the update and install it.
Note:- This trick is only tried on manning as of now. But I'm pretty sure that it'll work on marino too.

NTX-L29C432B180-FULL OTA update not possible...

Hallo everybody.
Summarizing: with a new, clear Huawei Mate 8 (HUAWEI NXT-L29) I unlocked the bootloader (default Huawei procedure).
I rooted the smartphone using SuperSU and all's perfect - my apps require and gain root permissions.
No, a new OTA upload comes into being.
I try to install: the smartphone reboots and remains stuck on "Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted" or whatever...
I try to "fastboot oem lock ******" (the code I obtained unlocking), but it tells me "FAILED (remote: root type is risk)".
I try to reflash the stock ROM (to do a hard reset), either by the "dload" or the "*#*#2846579#*#*" method: it stays stuck on "Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted" or whatever...
Any advice? Where am I wrong? And what to do next to update the ROM?
Thank you!
Any suggestion? Come on, guys, you're the best...
First thing to flash OTA - stock recovery. Flash it from fast boot and try again.
Can you tell me step by step? And where to download files?
Download your Firmware frome here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/general/huawei-mate-8-stock-firmware-official-t3391727
Unpack it.
Download Huawei Extractor
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433454
Open Huawei Ectract and open the UPDATE.APP from your unpacked Update.zip and extract the RECOVERY.img
Reboot into Bootloader
Flash the Recovery.img via Fastboot (fastboot flash recovery RECOVERY.img)
Reboot
You on Stock Recovery and can install the Updates from the first Link
Too much kind! I'll let you know...
Thank you!

I'm sorry, your way doesn't work.
The RECOVERY.img is flashed good, but when I try to install the UPDATE.APP, it remains stuck on "Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted".
this is normal with unlocked Bootloader.
You can extract SYSTEM.img,CUST.img,BOOT.img and flash via Fastboot
Reboot into Bootloader and flash this 3 img files with this command
fastboot flash boot BOOT.img
fastboot flash cust CUST.img
fastboot flash system SYSTEM.img
and Factory Reset
but this message at startup is normal
"Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted"

How to reinstall stock rom!?

Hello
I unlocked my bootloader, then installed CWM, rooted then installed unofficial EMUI 4 ROM.
But I was EMUI 3.1 before...
So my Honor 6 didn't work after that and never couldn't boot the ROM
When I try to install CWM again by Multi-Tool, flashing error says that I need to check the confirmation dialog on my device but I cant't access to my device because there is no ROM :|
I installed EMUI 4 stock recovery and now what can I do for reinstall the rom -_-
Is there any way at all?
Have you tried downloading EMUI 3.0 stock ROM and using the three button method after placing it on your SD card? which is power + vol up + vol down?
In order to get back to full stock ROM follow these steps, since you already flashed recovery of a build number I don't know, do it again by following the procedure:
Download your phone's latest firmware and extract system.img, boot.img, recovery.img, cust.img from UPDATE.APP using Huawei Update Extractor tool.
Flash recovery first, using this command.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Flash all other extracted files similarly firing these commands.
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash cust cust.img
fastboot flash system system.img
After doing this put that very UPDATE.APP from which you extracted the files in dload folder of your external SDCARD.
Switch off your phone, and press Vol UP + Vol DOWN + Power button simultaneously.
Your device will now get to the full stock firmware.
Enjoy your out of the box device..!!

Hi Digicoon,
I tried your method to restore to stock ROM after successfully installing KangVip Rom.
Actually this custom rom was intended for Mate7, but beeing a simple port from Honor6Plus (as stated by the developer) I installed on my device without any problem. The only thing I noticed was that my device was no more a Honor6Plus PE-TL10, but a DUK-AL20 which I think is Mate7 model number, right?
The ROM works good but I wanted to revert it back to stock.
Anyway, I tried downloading the kitkat stock rom for my Honor6Plus (it should be PE-TL10_EMUI3.0_Android4.4_V100R001CHNC00B260.zip) , extracted the UPDATE.APP and the four files you stated above, flashed them via fastboot and then put the entire dload folder inside the root of my SD card.
The phone hangs on the boot screen and then boot loop... no way to restore it.
I reverted it back to custom rom (via nandroid backup), even tried to flash the stock recovery.img to use the "Three buttons method" but with no luck, every time it stucks on boot logo and bootloop.
Do you have any idea what could it be? Maybe a "partitions" problem, due to different model number?
Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas
Also work for rooted L04 (TWRP) back to lollipop?

Does this also work in my case?
I have a rooted L-04 with TWRP and the latest b831-software. Now that I realised GPS is not working anymore I want to go back to Lollipop.
Has anyone tried it?
Thanks for your help.

Z3 Dual [D6633] - Don't boot in to recovery

Hello guys, I don't have no more idea to fix it.
Today I unlocked my bootloader, all was Stock and no Root. I want try This Lineage OS 15 and is mandatory flash the TWRP to install the Rom.
OK, I unlocked my bootloader and downloaded TWRP Dual Version, extracted the img file from zip and flashed in fastboot mode like the tutorial says: fastboot flash FOTAKernel recovery.img
the flash was donne fine but I can't enter in recovery mode, I tryed in adb adb reboot recovery but isn't work too, anyone have an idea?
Attached some images to explain...
Sorry for my bad english.
Forget, xkeita give me a tip and I can now enter in recovery, I suppose that the Stock kernel don't boot it, just flashed the Kernel rom that I want to use and in sequence, flahsed the TWRP and it worked.
Sumary:
1. I extracted the Boot.img from ROM ZIP and flashed it with: fastboot flash boot boot.img
2. I Extracted the TWRP IMG and flashed it with: fastboot flash FOTAKernel recovery.img
reboot the phone, and turn on pressing vol key down ultil boot in TWRP.
Maybe this is usual to someone.
Thanks a lot @xkeita and @serajr for all the help and suport, I Learned a lot, thanks.
Moderators, can Lock this tread please....

Question Proper Rooting for OnePlus 9?

Would anyone be able to direct me or send me the proper information on how to root my OnePlus 9 global LE2115? Because their are to many threads and Im getting confused
You can either use boot.img or you can boot into twrp and flash magisk.apk. 2 options for A11
I have issues rooting LE2115_11_C.44 (Lastest update android 12)
I try patched with Magisk:
fastboot boot boot.img
and that's ok, device is rooted, but when reboot my device don't keep root, so I try:
fastboot flash boot_a boot.img
fastboot flash boot_b boot.img
and device go into loop in bootloader then I rolled back flashing stock boot.img
I tried install TWRP from https://dl.twrp.me/lemonadep/ using
fastboot boot twrp.img
The TWRP logo appear and next show "Qualcomm crush dump mode"
I need help

A12 root method is different. Not like A11 where you flash the patched boot.img,it won't work. VBmeta and a vendor.img is used also. Also, TWRP is for A11. If you want root,Use the tool here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...xyysds-root-toolbox-coloros-oxygenos.4341167/
Use option 5 and then 6 and reboot. Magisk will be installed. Click the magisk app and update it.
Note: use your phone to download and extract file with password that OP provides in the link

How To Guide Xiaomi 12S Ultra TWRP(unofficial)

12S Ultra unofficial TWRP - link MEGA
Credit - UnofficialTWRP
They released TWRP under 12S Pro, but the code name is Thor which stands for 12S Ultra, and after flashing, I do confirm this is for 12S Ultra.
now they have a proper 12S Ultra section!
Download the image and rename as recovery.img for simplicity.
fastboot boot recovery.img (or full file name)
in TWRP, go to "Advanced" and "flash this twrp."
edit: the recovery image file is too large to be flashed directly via fastboot, so you need to boot first then flash using twrp!
edit2: backup and restore function may not be working properly on this version of twrp! I get boot loops everytime I do a full system backup and full restore after bricking the device, especially on the data partition. Clean installing rom then restoring data only still get boot loops. so use it with caution.
I suggest you to use 3rd party backup apps to do backups on apps and data, and stick to the flashing and other functions only for twrp.

No I'm pretty sure it's:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
However my question was why the method outlined by @Nabicook vs this method. Is it because of the dual partition?

Because not only it is the method unofficialtwrp suggested, but also the size of the recovery img file is too large to be flashed via fastboot.
I already tried
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash recovery_a recovery.img
and so on, but all failed.
only way to properly install this version of twrp is to boot first then let twrp to install itself to both a/b partitions.
Hi!
I'm following your guide...and after uploading recovery nothing happens
rebooting into recovery through ADB or just using buttons...still sends me into fastboot mode
What can I do?

are you sure you did
fastboot boot (your recovery file name).img
it should automatically boot into twrp without touching anything from fastboot mode.
then install twrp through the advanced option in twrp

Still having issues:
After flashing twrp + magisk, reboot sends me into fastboot mode ..
As I get it, previously I've messed up with boot image, flashing recovery into that partition
So question is:
Do I need to reflash stock boot.img (need help with getting it, stock recovery rom is packed into .bin and I'm unable to extract boot image
Or can I simply reflash stock ROM (in recovery or fastboot mode?)
*my phone is unlocked already

yeah you can try flashing stock boot img, and if that doesnt work, you can download fastboot rom and flash stock rom using flash all without wiping data(there is .bat file that says something like install without formatting).
That will fix any kind of brick issues of xiaomi device, and you just redo the twrp part.

www.droidwin.com
My idea worked!
I used the method above to extract boot.img & flashed it successfully
