What size ntfs do I need to format the hard drive in so the stock rom will read it? I'm using revolver so I don't know. Just confirmed 2 people not being able to read their hard drive because they're on stock. I'll have to reformat.
don't format as NTFS because Android won't read/write to it. Use vFAT/FAT32 - it may be worth giving ExFAT a go, but it probably won't work.
I have a 750 GB USB hard drive formatted as NTFS, and the TF can read and write
it with no problems when connected to a USB port on the keyboard dock or on the
tablet, using the Asus USB adapter.
I'm rooted, but using the stock ROMs on HC 3.2.1.
Works here, too - 500 GB Transcend External HDD formatted as NTFS.
Stock 3.2.1, no root.

You sure? NTFS what allocation size? I already got 2 people telling me the drive wouldn't work on their stock. When I plug it into mine, it works instantly.
Anyway, I'm formatting it in fat32 and sending it back to them.
Heck, I'll nvflash back to stock non-rooted to test these out myself.

Of course I'm sure, I have 2 6GB files on them, which cannot be achieved in FAT32. Also the drive works on my friends Iconia A500. And the last time when I formatted a HDD into FAT32 was when I was using Windows ME
BTW, Allocation size 4096 Bytes.
I move my NTFS-formatted USB drive between my Windows XP PC and the Transformer (rooted/stock ROM/HC 3.2.1) all the time.
Need NTFS module
Hi
I have rooted TF(Revolver+Clemsyn). NTFS do work fine though I had to copy over NTFS.ko manually.

Well. Colour me both surprised and impressed then!
I just got a confirmation from someone. His stock rom fully updated can only read fat32.
How come some of you with stock can read ntfs? I don't get it.
Latest 3.2.1 Stock WW - and it was never a problem. My External HDD is a one plug USB drive tho, so no need for extra power source. Looks like you're screwed
I downloaded an app called Drive Mount and that enabled NTFS for me, it might work natively now but I haven't uninstalled to find out so try that our - 'Drive Mount' on the Android market.
EDIT: I should specify that I can use both AC powered external hard drives and USB powered hard drives on my TF.
Hello,
So i got my 3.5 external hard drive working with my Note, but I want to know the best file system. I formatted the drive on my mac to an EXFAT drive, but that doesn't work well on my tablet: it says it's only a 198 mb drive instead of a 1 TB drive. NTFS doesn't work at all. When i format the drive on my note, it can't be read on my mac. So basically I want a file system which works on mac, windows and android without the need for extra software and it should allow files of over 32 GB (unlike FAT). Which is the file system i should chose?
cutting to the chase, im looking for a way to install my apps data and if possible apk files to a otg micro usb flashdrive (its a flash drive that has a micros usb conection that plugs directly into our phones micro usb port.) So far im able to read and write data to it in the sense that i can browse movie files music ect from the usb drive.
What i want to do is to be able to download a app from playstore and it installs automatically to the otg drive.
I tried foldermount and thats fairly inconvenient in the sense i have to first download file to phones internal storage THEN link it to my otg drive, this process is time consuming and irritating for my purposes.
Ive looked into link2sd but its telling me i dont have a 2nd partiton on my otg flash drive, but ive used eauseus partition manager and did that (made a ext 4 , also tried ext 3, partition as part of the overal 16gb flash drive) and no go.
i know this is possible on a custom rom as i did this with a micro sd card many android phones ago.
quick specs on my device
completed stock rooted and bootloader unlocked
latest busybox and su binaries.
no exposed modules or custom kernel.
8gig x1032 singe sim version
any suggestions be my guest.
Hello,
I just bought a SD-Card USB reader, an active USB hub and an OTG cable. I want to copy my holiday photos from SD Card to an external USB HDD via Nexus 5 with current CM11. The HDD has 160GB. When I plug in the SD-Card USB reader directly or through the USB hub I can read, write copy files from or to it. My 160GB HDD doesn't work. I tried to format it with FAT32, exFAT or NTFS in different sizes. I used ES File Explorer. There I can see both USB devices but when I try to access the USB HDD ES File Explorer loads and loads an loads but nothing happens more...
How do I ahve to format the USB HDD to get this working? Are there any limits on size, format or even hardware?
I think cm11 on nexus 5 cannot handle two otg storage device at once. Try stickmount app from playstore.

OK, thanks a lot, I'll give it a try!
OK, I've been able to connect my USB drive to my phone and view movies and files, but today I wanted to write to it and it says permission not supported. I use stickmount and ntfs mounter to mount and have tried es file explorer and astro. Neither will let me transfer files to USB... I have had the sdfix installed forever now, and I can write to my SD card, but just won't let me write to USB through org cable... Any help?
The only USB drives I've been able to use OTG with the M8 are flash drives (which don't require external power). Are you using something that needs power?
I've used powered and an unpowered western digital my passport 2tb harddrives and been able to watch movies off them even in ntfs format, but my ntfs USB flash drive will only read, no write at all... I'm going to try formatting it back to fat 32 and see if I can write to it when I get home. I thought i wrote to it before, but i recently formatted it to ntfs to put a movie on it... I'll post back tomorrow.
