OK, I've been able to connect my USB drive to my phone and view movies and files, but today I wanted to write to it and it says permission not supported. I use stickmount and ntfs mounter to mount and have tried es file explorer and astro. Neither will let me transfer files to USB... I have had the sdfix installed forever now, and I can write to my SD card, but just won't let me write to USB through org cable... Any help?
The only USB drives I've been able to use OTG with the M8 are flash drives (which don't require external power). Are you using something that needs power?
I've used powered and an unpowered western digital my passport 2tb harddrives and been able to watch movies off them even in ntfs format, but my ntfs USB flash drive will only read, no write at all... I'm going to try formatting it back to fat 32 and see if I can write to it when I get home. I thought i wrote to it before, but i recently formatted it to ntfs to put a movie on it... I'll post back tomorrow.

I cannot access my external sd card that's in my gTab from windows via the USB cable. I seem to remember that when I first bought it , I could see both the internal and external storage when I connected the gTab to Windows via USB (when it still had stock ROM). Now I am running rooted VEGAn-TAB-v1.0.0b5.1.1 and when I connect it via USB to windows I can only see the internal storage (I couldn't see it when I tried cyanogenmod either). I can access both brom the gTab just fine and if I take out the ext. sd card, windows reads it just fine.
Any idea why and/or how to access both internal and external storage from windows when gTab is plugged in via USB to windows?
As far as I know you could never access the external sdcard from the computer by usb
I load things from my external SD to internal SD and visa versa using ghost commander. Not a super big deal just one extra step. At this point I almost forgot I had to do that to move files between them and my PC.
i use a app that mounts them both
The way I found to access my external sd card from my computer is to ftp into my gTab using filezilla on my computer and SwiFTP FTP Server (available free from Market) on my gTab. Here is another post that talks about how to access the ext. sd card remotely: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869844

Thanks, I know some other people will want to try this app.
Not a great fit for me as I dislike the delays built into a lot of free apps.
I just plug a USB thumb drive into my PC, download the files onto that then plug it into my tablet and download from the USB drive onto the SDCARD. Easy like pie.
Works the other direction too!!!
I can get the external hdd to be read by my tab I've hooked it to a USB reader and is powered 5v and it's still saying blank USB drive detected, and I also have the drive in two partitions fat32 and ntfs format Nothin picks up, and have downloaded apps to assist in it to be recognized still Nothin, I'm running stock rom jelly bean 4.1.2.any help out there thanks.
Firstly, make sure you have Root access..
get super user.
download paragonNTFS from the playstore..
Connect HDD to the Tab..via usb otg host dongle
Open Paragon App,grant permissions to superuser..(remember forever)
it will either auto mount your drive to /external sd card or /usb drive or you can mount it manually to where you want to mount it.
The thing here is Ive never tried a HDD with a FAT32 and NTFS partition on the same drive before.not sure if this will give probs but should be able to do it.Try removing any external sd cards and look in location of external sd card for content of fat32 partition.you will always have to mount the NTFS partition with something like paragon it wont auto mount by it self like fat32 does..
Check settings / storage and look for your hdd volume info there
if its not there then you have problems.

P.S..
How exactley are you powering the Hard drive?
make sure its not connected to the power wires of the usb host cable
adding power to this seems to upset the host connection for me.
for a 5v hdd you would have to use a powered hub or from any usb as long as there is a seperate power source plug for power and differnt plug for data.
the newer hdds seem to have gone this way now but the older ones dont use this and run power through the data lines power source.you can try use a y cable for that type of hdd but run through a powered hub would be better.
maybe through up a pic of what you are running or some more info eg what drive and app to mount it.stick to paragon it works for tab 7.7.no need for anything else.
This is my set up,I'm rooted on stock though.

Hello,
I just bought a SD-Card USB reader, an active USB hub and an OTG cable. I want to copy my holiday photos from SD Card to an external USB HDD via Nexus 5 with current CM11. The HDD has 160GB. When I plug in the SD-Card USB reader directly or through the USB hub I can read, write copy files from or to it. My 160GB HDD doesn't work. I tried to format it with FAT32, exFAT or NTFS in different sizes. I used ES File Explorer. There I can see both USB devices but when I try to access the USB HDD ES File Explorer loads and loads an loads but nothing happens more...
How do I ahve to format the USB HDD to get this working? Are there any limits on size, format or even hardware?
I think cm11 on nexus 5 cannot handle two otg storage device at once. Try stickmount app from playstore.

Hi all,
I have a sd card that i want to copy its contents to an external hard drive. I have the following
OTG cable
USB Mains powered hub - This one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Plugable-Te...8&qid=1419902366&sr=1-6&keywords=usb+main+hub
1 tb external hard drive(NTFS)
Micro SD card (Fat32)
Micro sd card adaptor
I have connected the external hard drive and the micro sd card adaptor to the usb hub, then connected the usb hub to the OTG cable which is then connected to my phone, however Stickmount is not recognising the external hard drive, nor is Nexus Media Importer. Does anyone know if this is a limitation wihtin Lollipop (5.01) as it use to work in KitKat.
Should i just go back to KK?
I am rooted and on 5.01
if someone has any ideas please post, as i need to get this sorted wihtin the next few days
Thanks

To add to this, your portable hard drive is likely formatted in NTFS. Look at the OP in the thread beekay201 posted for instructions on how to handle this.
Thanks for the link..... I placed the files needed into the sdcard root, but it still does not recognise the 2 drives together
You need to provide more detail, like, help us to help you.
This external HDD you got, have you tried to hook it up, without using the USB hub? The external HDD itself, it's self powered, or draws power from the phone (or the hub)?
Paste a logcat to hastebin.com when you connect the HDD or the sdcard to the phone through OTG cable for us to see.
What StickMount version (I mean, literally the version number, not if pro or free) are you using?

I can connect the drive using the OTG cable, but using ES explorer, when I try to connect to the folder, it says "failed to open files"

right.. if you had searched about this, you'd have found lots of people having issues with L+Es file explorer. use another file explorer, and be done with it.
also, there's nothing wrong with stickmount or the logs. if it works with another FM, i'd just stick with that.
if you want to keep trying ES, be advised that you might need to try the "PIE PATCH" - fixes issues with root access/ES. I'm feelin generous (and bored) so here you go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/development/fix-bypassing-pie-security-check-t2797731
Right,i've got it working using the mains power plug on the USB hub. also ES File explorer is also working if i go via the folder structure rather than the left hand side menu.

Good.
@euqiddis please edit thread title to include "[SOLVED]" i.e. "[SOLVED] - Slightly urgent - Multiple OTG devices on Lollipop".
Thanks in advance.
I formatted my 4tb external hard drive to exfat because I didn't want to use the paragon total commander app to access it. It worked perfectly fine but all the sudden it says it's corrupted. It still works with my computer and with total commander on the phone but not natively on android like it used to it, it only asks me to format. I did a chkdsk and it has no errors. Is there any way to fix this without formatting?

I'm guessing you do have the HDD plugged into a powersource other then your phone?
If yes, try using ES File Explorer to see if that does the trick into reading your HDD

Yes, it's externally powered. ES recognized the drive but it says it only supports fat32 and ntfs.

My suggestion would be to format the HDD to NTFS and check to see if ES File Explorer is able to read and write to the HDD
Linux is build to support pretty much any filesystem of any size. ES File explorer should be able to flawlessly read your HDD when formatted to NTFS.
Let me know
I have a flash card that is formatted in NTFS and it won't read it whatever I do. But FAT32 one will work just fine.

You have to follow some specific steps to get NTFS formatted sdcards to work.
Make a search on Google: "How to Enable NTFS Support on Android: With & Without Root"
And check the article from TechPP. For NTFS formatted SDCARDS, you will need the root method of the article.
