My magisk is saying a new version is available. Should I update and if yes how do I do that.
All clear here, you should update.
How do I need to update it

I have a google pixel recently rooted with Magisk and have TWRP. My system is informing me of a system update, and it says Couldn't install update. I've seen people suggesting using FlashFire to flash a factory image of the update, then install Magisk right after that. So how would i go about it? can i do just that? is it possible to update that way? can i flash both magisk and twrp after flashing the factory image? thanks in adv

Try this
2x speed video of my using FlashFire to update the Pixel to the February Android 8.1 update, plus flashing ElementalX custom kernel v3.02 and Magisk v14.2. A little less than 3 minutes at this speed.

You have to be on Magisk 14.2 (not a higher version) to begin with, though, so if you're not, disregard this, or search for and read the appropriate posts for uninstalling Magisk and installing the correct version in order to use FlashFire under 8.1.
Hi, I'm very very new about Huawei devices, and I have a question..
I'm on build 8.0.0.120 (C432), and I can update my device to 8.0.0.130 (C432)..
I've rooted my Honor V10 with Magisk and I've TWRP recovery...
If I install this OTA update, I will lose root, or because the system partition on this device is read-only, I can update without lose anythings????
Thanks at all

Magisk has an add-on to survive OTAs, but I really don't know

I would be surprised if you can install an OTA with TWRP recovery.
To successfully apply the OTA you probably have to do something like this
Deinstall Magisk
Flash stock recovery
Apply OTA
Flash TWRP
Install Magisk

Hi guys, i got a problem with the oxygen updater app. Its not showing up any update notification since i updated it to 9.5.9. I downloaded this update from the app itself and it all went fine. Mine is EU version with bootloader unlocked and rooted and with twrp. Since I can't get any update thrift the app, i downloaded the full 9.5.10 zip from the xda thread. But I was not able to update to the latest, it will finish updating through the local update and through magisk i will flash twrp and magisk and rebooted. But after the reboot Im still on the 9.5. 9. Any help is appreciated.

What slot did the update install to. Jump back to recovery and switch slots. Or install update on both slots in twrp.

Thank you so much for the reply. Yes, it is fixed, I installed the update through twrp. And I think the problem was exactly what you mentioned. I think the magisk installation changed the slot every time.
Hello everyone,
Is there a specific procedure for an OTA update of LineageOS 18.1 but retain the Magisk v23.0 installation on OnePlus 8T? I see Magisk has an option to: "Install to Inactive Slot (After OTA)". Is that what's needed in order to retain Magisk after an OTA update? I used the "boot ramdisk" installation method for Magisk and currently have LineageOS Recovery installed. It appears some say this works, others say it only works with TWRP and others were required to install Magisk after the OTA update. I'd just like to get a clear understanding for this OTA update and future OTA updates.
Yes, install the OTA but don't reboot yet. Open Magisk and install to inactive slot and then reboot.

Thank you! I will give this a try over the weekend.
Your suggestion worked great! Thank you!
EDIT: Issue resolved! Thanks, Bill!
I am using my 8T with a stock ROM with an unlocked bootloader and Magisk. As I want to keep the systemless root, last time I did the OTA updates through Magisk so it can patch the boot image before rebooting into the newest update. I know this only works with the full ROM images and not the incremental ones thus I download the full update file through "Oxygen Updater" rather than the official system update. I went into Magisk, to the modules tab, selected "Install from storage", and selected the full OTA file. Once it finished I then installed Magisk again before rebooting. Everything worked great. This latest update, however, keeps failing to unzip in Magisk. All I get in the logs is:
Code:
- Copying zip to temp directory
! Unzip error
I haven't changed anything since the last time I had a successful update this way other than to update the ACC module. I don't really know how to proceed with this other than to wait for the next OTA update. Unfortunately, I didn't do the correct procedure the first time I updated and Magisk did not backup the stock boot image, so I can't really try that. Any thoughts?
Model: KB2005
Current version: 11.0.10.10.KB05AA
Update version: 11.0.11.11.KB05AA (file is ...15.O.29_OTA_0290_all_2110091944... [2.78GiB/2.84GB])
Magisk version: 23.0 (app is also v23.0)
Here are three ways for keeping Magisk for an incremental OTA:

2. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...00-kb2001-kb2003-kb2005.4178675/post-85801253
3. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-rooting-oos-with-twrp.4327417/
And I would never try to install an OTA via Magisk. Simply put the OTA in the root of sdcard and then use the System Updates local upgrade option.

Well, that was simple enough. I guess I got the process confused, somehow combining parts of the process with my old 5T using TWRP and the previous update I did on my 8T.
Thanks for taking the time to grab those links and make a reply! I appreciate it despite the fact that I had a case of the dumb and could have saved you the effort
