Sorry Wrong fourm
I´ve tried to delete it
Hi.
I have a dead proximity sensor in my Nexus 5, the light sensor is still ok.
The problem is when making a call the screen goes black, and will not light up.
I´ve tried alot of different apps that should make a work around but with no luck.
Does anybody have a good solution ?
Are you sure it's dead? I've had issues with mine, but it turned out to be a purely software issue.
Here's a link towards the solution.
You're going to have to root your phone though.
That worked, thx

Hi,
I've tried out some custom roms over the last few weeks and i noticed some days ago that my screen won't turn off when answering a call and holding it at my ear.
First i thought it was a miui bug, but same thing on different sense roms...
Then i noticed that automatic brightness is not working as well...
Sounds like a hardware bug, but my device didn't fall down or anything like that.
Could there be a solution to fix this?
Thanks!

Do you have a screen protector on? if yes, then it could be covering the sensor (which is on the left hand side of phone in line with the LED), I suggest that you cut a small hole in it, this helps....as I've read before.
thanks, but i don't have a screen protector...
could it be related with the new radio i flashed? (20.44.30.0821U_3821.08.00.24_M)
i don't know exactly, but the problem problably occured since i flashed radio.
tried different kernels and roms, so radio is the only solution left?
reflash? downgrade?
Got simmilar issue. Was trying different things to solve it. At end just sent in to HTC. Sensor was buggy and got replaced.
Just take it to HTC.
i sent it to htc yesterday, thanks.
hope they don't mind that i rooted and stuff, i flashed stock and put my device s-on again, so maybe they won't find out
First time poster, though been a regular lurker.
It seems I have a slightly dodgy proximity sensor. Have checked with one of the proximity sensor apps and while the sensor detects if I have my hand over it, it is very unreliable when I take my hand off. It can take from anywhere from 1 to 30 seconds or sometimes never.
While ive been through other threads where people have a completely failed sensor, does anyone have this intermittent problem. Also is this a hardware or software issue.
Im currently htc-dev unlocked running Pacman v15.0.
Out there is a tool for recalibrating the sensor, but you would need to be S-OFF I think and it's done with a service tool (a special PG88DIAG.nbh)
Let me know if you are willing to try it, but it is VERY dangerous if you do the wrong things.
I had the exact problem from the very beginning. Got a phone and the very next day had a screen protector applied. For a few days proximity sensor created problems. The screen would go black when the call started, but until the call did not end, there was no way to bring the screen back. So, I used an app just like yourself to check and saw the same thing happening. Ultimately read extensively and realised it was due to screen protector. Took a scissor and cut off the protector above the sensor. A few months later when I had a new protector (of a different company) applied the same problem reappeared, so I had to cut it off from the top. Except that this time around I was sort of expecting it. I hope this help! :fingers-crossed:
I had the same problem and it continued no matter whether i remove the protector or cut the portion....im unable to most awesome ROM's.......only n sense 4.0 im able to re turn on the screen using power button.if there a way to completely disable this turn off during calls irrespective of the ROM its highly appreciated......
Looking forward for the solution

An update to my situation.. I ordered a new proximity sensor on e-bay and have replaced the same on my phone now. While I was at it, I cleaned up the window as it was pretty grimy and could have been the source of trouble. Also cleaned up the contacts with Isopropyl alcohol. End result.. Im still having the same problem!!
Im pretty sure now that its not a hardware problem and has to do with the calibration. What I have noticed that the sensor works fine in bright sunlight but not when there is less light around. Also am not using a screen guard!
Would it be possible to guide me to the right tools to recalibrate please?
Sorry, I haven't done this myself, but I'll search a bit how it's done by HTC.
They are using a special holding station where the devices are calibrated.
I could buy a used OPO where the display seems to be defective. It just stays black, backlight is working. The seller told me it didn't fall down and there was definitely no water involved. Everything else seem to be working, you can turn it on, it vibrates and makes sound.
Could it be that the reason for the display staying black is something other than defecitve display? Maybe some kind of software failure / brick?

Honestly, nobody can answer that question, and I'm not sure why you think we can. Is it possible? Yeah. But that information useless because the only way to find out is to actually do some diagnostics on the device.

I just asked because I have no experience with the OPO and thought maybe it's kind of a known problem with this device. Maybe someone already had similar problems and some ideas i could try before i replace the screen.

Even if someone did have similar problems, or even if it was known a issue, the information would be completely useless because that doesn't mean it's the case for this phone, the only way to find out is to buy the phone and check it.

That's what I'm gonna do anyway
I seem to be having an issue with my proximity sensor. At times it works 100% which leads me to believe it's a bug in the marshmallow update, since it never happend before it. Sometimes when making a call I can't hang up, the only thing I can do is force reboot the phone. Anyone else with this issue,or should I send it in for repair.

No it happens to me too since the update, very rarely but very annoying!
I'm on the UK Generic version if that makes any difference...

I'm on the same firmware
Really annoying indeed. I wouldn't say rarely in my case, 70% of the time I'd say... Hopefully it gets solved asap!

I find if you give the screen a wipe where the proximity sensor is when it happens, it usually sorts it out. Maybe it's just over sensitive or something...

Has anyone found any solution? This is annoying me too much. Sometimes even when I tap play in music app, the screen goes black.
I have the same problem which began instantly after updating to build number 32.1.A.1.185, and this happens to me every time I place a phone call. Running the Ear Proximity test has it vibrating constantly (meaning that it detects the ear). If i wipe the area above the proximity sensor before running the test and then run the test with nothing near the sensor then it will remain off - but then when something approaches the sensor it kicks in and then never switches off even when you move away from the sensor.
Seems like they have quietly fixed it through some update because it is working fine now.
Completely same problem here with same behaving, but with build 32.2.A.0.224. Any solution?
I mean as farooknaji wrote...
same problem here!
Where is the proximity sensor. Could be my panzerglass (tempered glass screen protector) pressing on it leading my phone to think its againt my ear?
Same problem here since last firmware update! I contacted sony but they say is a hardware issue :S
Do you guys know a way to fix it? Its pretty anoying
I had this to, after I placed a extra glass screenprotector.
Removed it, no problems any more.

Hello,
The display of my OnePlus-One is very very dark. I can barely see anything. I think it's because the backlight is not working. The last thing i did was updating Magisk from 12 to 13.1.
Here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/help/blackscreen-magisk-update-t3576571 other people also have problems with black screens after Magisk update. But other than them, i also had a blackscreen on recovery menu (There i couldn't see anything, probably because the colours are too dark). Via adb/fastboot i did a factory reset...Nothing changed. I also installed the stock rom again but it didnt help. I dont think it is a hardware error because it happened right after the Magisk Update. Can you please help me? Could it be something with the Kernel?
Regards,

Use winxp or win7 to avoid driver issues.READ THE OP CAREFULLY!
Thx for the fast reply. I used the Tool and it changed the Rom succesfully but the backlight still doesn't work. I don't think it is a brick because the phone works normal, it's just the backlight that won't turn on

Then it's a hardware issue, need to change digitizer+LCD(display) of the device.
I tested the phone with a old Display which i changed because the glass was broken. With this Display the backlight still doesn't work. So i don't think it is a Hardware issue. And why should the Hardware break right after i updated magisk? I don't know much about the Kernel, but could it be that magisk changed something there and now it doesnt "tell" the backlight to turn on?

No! A mod (heck, even a non-working kernel!)cannot turn your device's display backlight dead! But yes,it can make your device hard brick.
Can you hear sounds of call and stuff? If yes, then it's definitely the display at fault.
If not, then it's definitely a hard brick,in that case you must try the link that I gave in above posts.
Well time for a new phone i quess.. Yes i can hear sound of call and so on, like i said it works normal. But i tried it with my old Display and it's the same problem. Could something on the Mainboard be the reason for it?

Can be a backlight ic on motherboard..
Are you sure your previous display was working good?

You are hasty to blame Magisk. It would be more reasonable to consider the screen replacement as cause of a screen issue than think of Magisk as the cause.

Yes it was working, the only problem was that it didn't react when i touched near the cracks. But the Display worked.

I don't think it's a coincidence that this happened RIGHT AFTER i updated Magisk

Then it can be a backlight ic or you can try ordering a new display..
It is definitely not happened by Magisk!

Can you change the backlight ic without ordering a new Motherboard? Do you know a site where they sell them? Or is it not possible as a newbie because you need to solder it?

No,you'll have to replace the whole motherboard itself.
But I think you should get your device checked by a professional.
