Unable to update to Oreo - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I recently bought HTC U11 and have been using it with AT&T. U11 is an international unlocked version. Although most of the websites claim international versoin had gottent Oreo update, I do not see the update when check from the phone. What is the best way to update?
Thanks,
./Siva.

Ok. How can I say my phone is US unlocked or international? I believe mine is international, since I bought it from EBay, would be good know.

In settings, about, software information, software number.
Must be x.xx.401.xx to be eu worldwide edition.
617 is the US unlocked/dev edition.

I didn't realize there were 2 different versions of the unlocked phone. I bought mine used (practically new as the guy only used it a couple weeks) a couple weeks ago and as soon as I started setting it up I got the update to Oreo. After reading your post I checked my software version and it is indeed 617, so I have the US version (which is great considering I'm in the US lol).

When will we see a Nougat update for the Unlocked (SM-G930u) model?
Unfortunately with the quarterly update schedule of the g930u, I think it will be a good couple weeks, if not a month or two before we even see the nougat update. Samsung seems like they dropped the ball in supporting our unlocked US version.
Where can I find the info you based that off of?
thread from samsung forums about the g930u and its update cycle:

hope it helps!

Update from HTC USA

Hello all,
Can see the Oreo update on the Htc us support site for unlocked u11,
Can we install it on our phone purchased in India??
The site is
http://www.htc.com/us/support/updates.aspx
Thanks in advance
No. Devices from different areas have certain differences (for instance, radios, firmwares etc.)
So you need to wait for the official update for your device, once it becomes available for your device, in your region.

Oops. I should have checked that the unlocked US variant is the single SIM variant whereas we have the dual sim variant here in India. Rookie mistake. Thanks for the input though!
You'll find that you'd need to change the cid and mid to use the usa updates

Yeah, I won't change to the US one though. Maybe TW or any Dual-sim variant region with Oreo already

OTA updates outside of intended region?

Hello good people of the XDA forums,
I live in Canada and recently ordered a Galaxy A51 off of Amazon, only to find out it is apparently the Latin American version of the SM-A515F variant. Using my Canadian sim card, will I be able to get get OTA updates on this phone from Samsung or not? If it comes to it at the end of the day, I suppose I could live with manually updating with Odin (how that works I have yet to find out), but I'd definitely not prefer it. As of this moment I'm still stuck with the December 1st security patch and version A515FXXU1ASL1. I got this phone just this Friday and didn't even receive an update as I was setting it up, which certainly worried me.
Also, and on a related note, because this is the Latin American version, NFC is disabled. Is that something that could be changed as well/be fixed in the future?
Thank you so much for your help y'all

I am also canadian who purchased international version on purpose(easy to root international)as soon as i put in my sim i recieved an OTA notice.
Mine happens to be panama latin america. I recieved u2ata8 update. Whatever you do,DO NOT FLASH ANYTHING BUT INTERNATIONAL FIRMWARE VIA ODIN. IF YOU FLASH CANADA FIRMWARE ON INTERNATIONAL VARIATIONS THEN YOU WILL HARD BRICK. Also you will get odin fail if you have U2 in your firmware. Cannot roll back to U1

If I'm not getting prompted for similar updates does that mean I'm probably not going to be getting OTA updates? I believe my phone is the Panama version as well.

I definitely haven't gotten any updates. Is there any reasonable reason why I'm not getting updates but you are? I'm with Public Mobile, if that makes a difference. Would it have something to do with my sim card? The country code on my phone is TPA, which from what I've seen is the Latin America/Panama model.

I also ordered an A51 off of Amazon. I have the Latin American model and got an update to the February security patch not too long ago. It should work fine for you!

Do you have a link that explains what you're saying in detail? I'm trying to learn the details of this. I have a Latin American phone (DS) that I'd like to root.

which model has bootloader unlock?

I'm in USA and on Verizon. No matter how much digging on the forums I'm not sure I can ever be sure which exact version of the 8t would be the carrier unlocked international version with available bootloader unlock and root available. Hoping someone could provide with that info, thanks!
If you buy it directly from OP you should be good to go. Just make sure it's not been purchased through T-Mobile and hardware model KB2007.
KB2005

Why TMobile? Is there not an equilvalent, for example to my V30 that was a non-carrier branded unlocked international model? And Sykojoe mentioned the KB2005, which one is that? I'll admit I haven't even looked up yet.

I'm saying if you are NOT a T-Mobile customer, don't buy a phone that is locked to the T-Mobile network. You need to get them to SIM unlock it then you need to get a bootloader unlock token from OnePlus before you'll be able to flash any other ROMs.
KB2005 is the international version from OnePlus. That is the one you want to get. If the model number is KB2007 it's from T-Mobile.

Ok, yea I understand. The carrier unlocked (non-carrier) international one was the one i was looking for, thanks.

Question Difference between variants?

Last week I bought the A53, and today I noticed I received the Indian variant (SM-A536E).
I'm from Europe and I bought it from a verified European shop.
I was wondering if this could have any disadvantages?
Like maybe the Indian ROM has more tracking than the European One (because of GDPR or something) or the Radios are different?
Could I for example flash the European ROM through Odin?
Thanks

The biggest difference for most people is going to be the supported frequencies, especially the 5G bands.
For example, I considered getting an international model shipped to me here in the USA (because the USA models cannot have their bootloaders unlocked without exploiting bugs) but decided against it because it wouldn't support one of the major 5G bands used here.
That's the only part of your question I can help with though, I don't know what would happen if you try to flash firmware from a different region.
