Only flashing custom will trip KNOX, installing apps will not

right!
Got mine updated before noticing it made it useless. Anyone with a previous version?

Ask any question thread

I think it might be a good idea to have a thread for any questions as the its gonna get quite cluttered. Some questions might not need a thread. Anyway I have a question
Does the S6 have a rgb light for notifications?

Yes it does.
Is the home button made of glass and aluminium like the rest of the device?
Does Viral (see my sig) work without any problems? And what resolution can you select?
Would an S6 bought from Saudi Arabia work in the UK incl 4G?
Does light flow work with the S6?
Hey, has anyone here an issue where the video quality gets really poor when in low light?
My videos all tent to look "milky" when the lights are off and the resolutions are higher than 720p.
Anyone here had a similar problem?

As long as it's unlocked, it should. And by 4G, do you mean LTE?

Doesn't seem to function properly on my end. Light Manager works though.
I have an s6 with carrier bloat, can I flash a unbranded firmware over it? Does it have a counter when flashing roms?

The only counter the S6 has right now is the Knox warranty counter. As long as you flash stock roms -not modified in any way- Knox shouldn't be tripped and you wouldn't loose the warranty and access to Samsung pay. If you modify the device with, for instance, PingPong Root, the status will be shown as 'Modified' and you will lose Samsung Pay and OTA updates untill you flash a stock rom again.
You can flash unbranded firmware without issues as long as its compatible. That was literally the first thing I did to my phone.

So I can't flash a debloated rom?

You can. You'd just lose your warranty and access to samsung pay. If you're interested in removing the carrier's bloatware, you can use the Debloater tool. Pretty straightforward, effective and safe. It can even 'disable' system apps so you should be careful with that.

And if I were to flash a stock rom again? Would it return it to pure factory settings?

If you flash a stock ROM over an already debloated one, the disabled apps won't become enabled. You'd need to perform a factory reset for them to become available again. This means you can flash newer versions of stock ROMs as they become available without fear of having to debloat again. This is nice if you want to try newer kernel versions included in the latest ROMs, or to try different basebands.
-As a sidenote, when I say flash the stock ROMs I refer to flashing with Odin, rather than custom recoveries (because installing custom recoveries voids the knox counter)

My bro just told me you can flash zips with flashfire without tripping Knox, so this can be used to install twrp? And how do you know if you tripped Knox?

Knox will be tripped if you install a custom recovery or kernel - that's for sure, whether you use flashfire or odin or anything else.
Post 784 and 785 of this thread kinda reassure it, among others.

Check if knox is tripped by going into download mode (hold power button + home button + volumen down untill a cyan screen shows up, then volume up).
Is there any way to get nexus like navigation buttons on the s6? Also is there an app that can add long press function to the recent button?
Why does my Knox flag say 0x0304 and not 0x1 like everything else I've seen? I flashed TWRP for root/debloat and flashed back stock recovery for deep sleep. I don't care about warranty, I'm just curious if there's a difference. Model 920F.
Sensors not working
I installed Noble Nougat Experience 4.5 S8 port on my SM-G920F. Battery life was bad so I decided to go back to stock ROM.
I did something dumb. I deleted all partitions and Windows could not recognise my device.
I solved the problem with Smart Switch.
I installed stock ROM and everything was fine until I started Asphalt 8 game. I tilted my phone to control the car but car just went foward.
I thought it was the game issue but when I opened YouTube I couldn't go in landscape mode.
I tried to calibrate gyroscope sensor but it still didn't work.
I entered *#0*# in phone app and went to sensors and none of the worked and SensorHub Test failed.
If someone knows is it software or hardware problem.
Please help!!!

Question about Temp Root (King Root) and Knox

Alright guys here's the burning question. I achieved temp root on the note edge using king root. Now If I use Titanium Backup to freeze and uninstall all the Knox elements then use CF-Root to get permanent root will it still trip the Knox counter even though there are no more remnants of Knox?
That's a good question, did you ever get this figured out? Also what build are you running and what version of King root are you using to achieve temp root?

Are we even sure that CF-Root will perma-root our devices, yet?

With either the Verizon or AT&T variants, you have to be running KK; the AT&T variant is ANK2.

About as sure as its gonna trip knox.

Tripping KNOX and restricted apps

If someone roots, I have heard that many apps stop working. My question is, if the device is then unrooted, will those apps still work considering the fact that knox will remain tripped? I'm not referring to Samsung Pay, but rather apps from the playstore.
Yes, using magisk you can run all of the applications...
Few may need workaround but possible

I hope I don't sound noob but coming from a 6p, i believe I am. I am new to samsung(even hated the idea of having one just as i hate iphones...) but was a gift and am lovin' it. I read a lot about rooting the s8+. Even got all the tools I found through a walkthrough to achieve root on my device. Many say it's not safe. The steps were flashing twrp through odin, then flashing magisk and the verity flash in twrp.
Hope i didn't tire you yet
Just a couple questions, is it actually safe to root my device? With the knox and whatnot(never had to worry about that before with the 6p)what apps will be affected by root and how to workaround that?
I have a g955fd btw
Thanks in advance

Its safe but once Knox is tripped its tripped for good. As of now there's no way to use certain secure apps if Knox has been tripped. You won't be able to us Secure folders (private mode), S Health and allegedly Samsung pay (although this one works for me on my rooted s8+ with Magisk). There may be some other apps but those are the main ones I can think of.
Besides these apps most if not all other apps root check capabilities can be fooled or bypassed. Apps like Snapchat, Netflix and Poke Go etc.are normally blocked on rooted devices but work just fine with Magisk.

If you dont care about the apps I mentioned or possibly forfeiting your warranty then I don't see why not. Its definitely not required though. There's not too much incentive to root yet until rovo89 gets Xposed to work on android 7.0+, if ever. I just rooted to make full nandroid backups and save myself the trouble of rooting down the road. As of right now there's not too much added functionality in having root access besides a few small-ish tweaks here and there.

Samsung flow after tripping Knox?

I knew when Knox is tripped I might lose the functionality of some apps like Flow.
But since the phone was released for a while now is there any way to use Samsung Flow on rooted devices?
I tried Magisk Hide but it does nothing.
See if this helps:

Thanks for answering. I read that already. The problem is on phone the app says I can not use it due to root. Is there still no workaround?
Why does Magisk Hide not work here?
+1
How to get Samsung Flow work on rooted Samsung Galaxy A70?

what is kbox ?

And what ti do if i tripped it ?
It is not kbox, it is Knox... If you tripped it... there's not anything you can do it is tripped and that's it. Shouldn't much limit the use of your phone.

Nope it's a physical fuse type thing on my phone that shorts out. Flashing stock via Odin does not revert it back.
SPay as well as other Samsung apps won't work (forgot which ones)
