what is kbox ? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

And what ti do if i tripped it ?

It is not kbox, it is Knox... If you tripped it... there's not anything you can do it is tripped and that's it. Shouldn't much limit the use of your phone.

Nope it's a physical fuse type thing on my phone that shorts out. Flashing stock via Odin does not revert it back.
SPay as well as other Samsung apps won't work (forgot which ones)

As I understand it, it is just a counter. But anyone with a bit of a brain could /
would know that you had flashed / rooted your tablet. The main concern most
people have is in returning the tablet, where the manufacturer or dealer would
know that you flashed software and this MAY void your warranty.

you understand correctly, and yes, Triangle Away resets that counter. However it's also worth mentioning that with recent Samsung devices, even if you reset the counter the device will still be marked as MODIFIED. Which makes it pretty much silly to use anyways. You basically need to be unrooted for that to go away in the case you need to claim warranty... But then there's probably something wrong with the tablet that would prevent one from resetting that if you're looking at the warranty. Have a 0 counter all you want, if they find superuser/SuperSU and some root apps... then you're caught

Is the home button made of glass and aluminium like the rest of the device?
Does Viral (see my sig) work without any problems? And what resolution can you select?
Would an S6 bought from Saudi Arabia work in the UK incl 4G?
Does light flow work with the S6?
Hey, has anyone here an issue where the video quality gets really poor when in low light?
My videos all tent to look "milky" when the lights are off and the resolutions are higher than 720p.
Anyone here had a similar problem?

I have an s6 with carrier bloat, can I flash a unbranded firmware over it? Does it have a counter when flashing roms?

The only counter the S6 has right now is the Knox warranty counter. As long as you flash stock roms -not modified in any way- Knox shouldn't be tripped and you wouldn't loose the warranty and access to Samsung pay. If you modify the device with, for instance, PingPong Root, the status will be shown as 'Modified' and you will lose Samsung Pay and OTA updates untill you flash a stock rom again.
You can flash unbranded firmware without issues as long as its compatible. That was literally the first thing I did to my phone.

You can. You'd just lose your warranty and access to samsung pay. If you're interested in removing the carrier's bloatware, you can use the Debloater tool. Pretty straightforward, effective and safe. It can even 'disable' system apps so you should be careful with that.

If you flash a stock ROM over an already debloated one, the disabled apps won't become enabled. You'd need to perform a factory reset for them to become available again. This means you can flash newer versions of stock ROMs as they become available without fear of having to debloat again. This is nice if you want to try newer kernel versions included in the latest ROMs, or to try different basebands.
-As a sidenote, when I say flash the stock ROMs I refer to flashing with Odin, rather than custom recoveries (because installing custom recoveries voids the knox counter)

Knox will be tripped if you install a custom recovery or kernel - that's for sure, whether you use flashfire or odin or anything else.
Post 784 and 785 of this thread kinda reassure it, among others.

Check if knox is tripped by going into download mode (hold power button + home button + volumen down untill a cyan screen shows up, then volume up).
Is there any way to get nexus like navigation buttons on the s6? Also is there an app that can add long press function to the recent button?
Why does my Knox flag say 0x0304 and not 0x1 like everything else I've seen? I flashed TWRP for root/debloat and flashed back stock recovery for deep sleep. I don't care about warranty, I'm just curious if there's a difference. Model 920F.
Sensors not working
I installed Noble Nougat Experience 4.5 S8 port on my SM-G920F. Battery life was bad so I decided to go back to stock ROM.
I did something dumb. I deleted all partitions and Windows could not recognise my device.
I solved the problem with Smart Switch.
I installed stock ROM and everything was fine until I started Asphalt 8 game. I tilted my phone to control the car but car just went foward.
I thought it was the game issue but when I opened YouTube I couldn't go in landscape mode.
I tried to calibrate gyroscope sensor but it still didn't work.
I entered *#0*# in phone app and went to sensors and none of the worked and SensorHub Test failed.
If someone knows is it software or hardware problem.
Please help!!!

Rooted then restore to stock, will samsung pay still work?

I have a S7 still with stock ROM. I want to root it to get rid of some bloatware completely. I know I will lose Samsung Pay after root. But my concern is, will I get Samsung Pay back if I do an ODIN stock ROM restore? I read some post that I will get it back. But others say if I root and violate KNOX inside the phone, I will never get Samsung pay back.
Can people here confirm please?
Nope, KNOX is permanently tripped if you root, which disabled Samsung Pay and other things

What does it say in download mode for current binary/system status and warranty void? Take a pic of that as well. The current root method for the snapdragon phones doesn't trip knox so its hard to say what that app is picking up.

I've done some Googling. It looks like this is a secure "military grade" encrypted app. The app is detecting that Knox has been tripped, which is why you're seeing the error.
There's no way you'll be able to install the app on your phone. Nothing you do will get around it. It seems Blackberry do a lot of integration with Samsung Knox products, as it's also military grade security.
EDIT: Sorry - just noticed you have a Snapdragon - in which case, you'd have been using the SamPWND root method? if so, this doesn't trip Knox, so you should be able to run this app no problem.
I your Knox is tripped, you've done something wrong, or something else to trip it.
As per what @peachpuff said, we need to know what the download mode screen shows.
It's a slightly used ex-Trump phone for talking to the Russians, of coarse Knox has been tripped . . .
and then run over a number of times.

Peach, if re-installing the OS would wipe the Persistence directory, that would make removing FRP's too easy. Is it really 'that' easy to undo an FRP?
---------- Post added at 12:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:48 AM ----------
Yes, blown fuse.
US based phone. If you'er working govt or have to have Blackberry association, this phone likely will not be able to perform that function.
Someone shared last week that using a combo file can remove FRP, i.e. the Persistence directory where the locked Google account is stored, and return a phone to normal use, however it seems your fuse/Knox is shot.
I have not heard of anything that can undo a blown fuse. Have you?
Are you able to boot into system/run the phone other than this issue? If not, remove the FRP and see what condition the warnings are in at that time.
Rempving FRP .... dont know how or the process you mentioned ... ill google it and see.
Thank you for helping i appreciate it and hopefully get this to work. Everything else works w the phone.

No, RPMB fuse blown isn't the Knox fuse - it's completely different. Every S8 shows this after updating the bootloader.

So if the OP goes back to the original boot loader . . . ? But the fuse is an electronic/hardware fuse, yes? So it can not be reset?

Re: Samsung Galaxy S8 stuck on boot (logo)
I did a bit of reading, and from what I saw, the RPMB Fuse is supposedly always displayed as being blown. There was a lot of speculation surrounding this, but they believe it's tripped in order to prevent using the board itself in another device, or to prevent downgrading of any kind."

No, that RPMB fuse is irrelevant to this whole discussion. it has nothing to do with the OPs issue.
I still don't know why the app isn't installing. it's still seeing either root, or Knox tripped.
OP - install this app and we'll know for sure if Knox is tripped: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bryancandi.knoxcheck&hl=en

Samsung Health not working after OREO update

Hi Guys,
Yesterday I updated my phone via Odin to Oreo, but unfortunately samsung health says that my phone is rooted and it is not working anymore. ( Of course my phone is not rooted, I used stock firmware)
I think the problem is I used different region code firmware. Am I right? How can I use the app again? Wait for my original country's firmware and update via Odin would be a solution?

It detects Knox is 0x1. To fix this you must root your phone, go with root browser to the root of the device (/) then /efs. There you'll find a file "factory.prop". Open it and add there "ro.config.tima=0". Then you can unroot/reflash stock ROM and s health works

Experts recommend root if your KNOX is 0x1 because that is the only solution, if you fail to read up on how to flash firmware and end up with a problem because of your own fault, and fail to mention in your main post that you didn't flash the firmware correctly, we are not psychic, we can only go on the info you give us
Next time, learn how to flash firmware the correct way first

Yep, with my S5 that was the method, but instructions for S7 are under the download on sammobile's site and all over this forum
