Fast battery charging coming with Oreo? - Xiaomi Mi A1 Guides, News, & Discussion

Don't mistake that for Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0. That just means it is charging at 5v/2A. The phone already does that when paired with a good charger and cable.

Let's do some calculations
3000mAh battery
2000mA charger
That gives about 1.5hrs or so to charge. If we factor in 20% additional time, just because it slows down the charge rate at about 90% or so, then we come in around 1.8hrs. That's not that far off from what the user noticed, and if the phone is off the whole time during charging, then there is no additional battery use from radio/wifi/apps.
Not to say that they didn't implement some other thing with Oreo but definitely it is not QC 3.0 charging.

its still same.... no change at all

fast charge is generally a feature that needs to be built into a custom kernel
Don't know about you but my S5 chargers incredibly fast compared to my SIII and Nexus 7. Even with fast charge on.
Agree, my S5 charges at 1.2A given a charger capable of this, and that is fast.

Yes, the S5 charges at 2amp. (Kernel reports 1800mah)
If your phone is reporting that it charges any slower than that, it's an energy deficiency of the charger supply, bad cable, or bad micro usb connection.
I use an app which reports charging current. With a standard micro usb cable i never morw than 1200 mA (and about 450 mA from a PC/mac usb plug)
Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
While it's true that the phone ships with a 2A charger, the charging current does not exceed 1.2A AFAIK.
Gotta love MicroUSB 3.0.
It already charges from under 10% to 100% in a mere 2 something hours (bundled charger and USB 3 cable). You want something much faster than that???

Yes I think in the end it is something around this current. What the apps report is more "charging in 1800mA mode" and not really charging with continous/real 1800mA. If you like to know more exactly what the current is you may write down time/percentage values for e.g. every 5% of battery power starting with an nearly empty battery. Then you can draw an line of the effective loading current.
With the original charger you should be able to get stable 1800mA but if the loading circuit of the S5 really goes this high I did not check.
I believe it peaks at 1800mah with the screen off. It is 1200 mah limited when screen is on.
Sorry to awaken this post.
As most of you, my S5 reported charging at stable 1200 mA with wall charger, probably 1800mA when turned off.
But, I can say a custom rom unleash battery charging in the same conditions as stock rom. I get stable 1800 mA with LineageOS, even screen on, with original charger and usb 2 or usb 3 cable.

Mi4i charger

Mi4i features fast charging. Can you suggest a better charger than 5v-2a charger?
Apple iPhone charger shows up as a fast charger for me.
fast charging is supported but the charger in the box is a normal one. (5v2a)
can anyone try out with the proper fastcharge2.0? (9v1.2a)
Donnt have one...would definitely love to get the feedback from someone who tested it first hand!
how do you see it 'shows up' as a fast charger?
are there any indication?
Mi4i FAQ http://en.miui.com/thread-122548-1-1.html
50. Does my Mi4i have Quick Charge feature? If yes, then which version does it support?
A: The Mi4i has Quick Charge 1.0, which explains the slow charging rate some users have been complaining about. The Mi4i takes roughly 2 hours 30 minutes to fully charge for me

And FYI, http://www.gsmarena.com/charge_test-review-1239p2.php
Quick Charge 1.0 was introduced in 2012 and it made use of a 5V/2A charger, which could charge a phone up to 40% faster than conventional 5V, 1A chargers. That boost accounts for a 10W max charging power.

Thus the original 2A charger that comes with phone is the fastest charger supported.

Xiaomi Mi 4c Charging Analysis Part-2
I just bought Tronsmart TS-WC1Q and I must confirm almost the same results as with original Xiaomi charger for Mi4i. Charging current with Tronsmart charger is about 1,44A and voltage is stable about 5,2V. I'm not sure, if I can determine from these results, if its support QC 1.0 or 2.0. Next time I will try to measure the time from 0->40% of battery and compare original and Tronsmart charger. Anyway I think it matters also on the ROM/kernel you are currently using. I'm on RESURRECTION REMIX with Sensei kernel v1.3.2-dev kernel.
I m on cm13, it looks like qc2.0 is supported. I used a China charger (9v1.2a). It charged fully charged up from 0 to 100% in 1hr and 40 min.
i have tried
i have tried qualcomm's fast charging 2 it works well.
How fast is Mi 4i supposed to be? I've bought orico quick charger 2.0 and it does about 1.5 hr to be fully charged. Do I need to install something to make it faster?

Huawei Mate 8 Quick Charge.

Hi.
I have a question about Mate quick charge:
I found that Mate 8 has quick charge future. This future is in the phone or in the charger?
How can I switch between quick charge and normal charge?(there is a label on the charger "Quick charge", So for normal charge I should buy a new charger?)
Will quick charge harm the battery(In long usage and compare to normal charge)?

you can use a certified quick charger or normal charger. Its just the normal charger will take longer..
They have made the quick charge work in a way that it charges fast until it reaches 80%, and then gradually decreases to 'normal' up to 100% full, so in the long run it should have no harm to the battery.

there is no option. you can either use a QuickCharger or a normal charger..
But as i said with a quickcharger it Automatically changes the amperage as it gets more full, so as to protect the battery.

OK, i don't want to argue with you. Just share opinion. And for some reason the manufacturer pay attention to use genuine chargers (attached pictures).

those warnings are for non technical minds.. because they done pay attention to technicalities.
Any charger will work, but you do need to take note of the output Voltage mainly...
Amperage will just mean how fast or slow it will charge..
- If i were to use a 9v 2A charger on a 5v 2A phone, i think it may cause harm.
- a 5v 1A charger on a phone 5V 2A, will just mean it will charge half as fast...
- just like when you plug your phone to computer USB port, it charges at 5V 500mAh (0.5A), hence why it charges slowly
Useful info for everyone.

[CONFIRMED] .152 Firmware Update ENABLE QC 3.0 Fast Charging.

EDIT : Confirmed. This phone support QC 3.0 now.
Come a bit as surprise,
Updated my P20 Pro C636 to .152 Firmware,
And noticed right away that now IT DETECT my QC 3.0 battery pack charger as Fast Charge (Two Thunder Icon Appear) and it charge with High Current,
Someone who already on .152 and have QC 3.0 charger in their belonging might want to test it as well.
But anyway, this is good addition for me. Since now i can have one battery pack to fast charging all my phones.
Bellow i attached the picture

By "wall quick charger" is it QC 3.0 ? Or 2.0 or standard fast charger ?
Because this phone wasn't meant to support QC standard to begin with, and supposed only work with Huawei Proprietary Supercharge technology, thats why i quite surprise when it now show it as fast charging when am using my QC 3.0 charger.
How many Thunder icon you see next to the battery when you charge ?
And, are you on .152 as well ?

thx for confirming it
i just checked with voltmeter as well, and it indeed charge on 9V as well
Not to burst the bubble but fast charge through Huawei's own charge gives up to 4.5A, yours only gets 2.5A and that's not fast charge but possible quick charge that Qualcomm uses.

Yes, that i know. LoL
but prior to this, even using QC 3.0 charger will only give me less than 2A, since it only act as normal fast charging,
so, this might be not doing any miracle,
but at least now i know my QC charger will fast my phone faster than it previously does.

That calculation on the screen is innacurate for most of the time. Because it fluctuate often.
And since his battery is on 70 its normal that the charger doesnt supply full current/volt,
That just how it designed.
And you are right,
For most of the case, our phone will be fully charged in around 2 Hrs using supplied charger
Stock Huawei charger includes both supercharged capable adapter, and cable (look for purple ends)
Outputs 2A, 5A, 4.5A
Uhmm that's interesting.
I resumed my old powerbank I used for my old nexus 6p, it's a Tronsmart and it claims to be QC 3.0

I'm on c636 152, charge is still normal.
I don't know if the powerbank lies, or the cables, but I tried different ones.

no it does not, i think it just support up to QC 2.0 since they are using their own charging tech

Yes, please let me know if you discover any differences between stock charger and a QC charger.
people already did it , no matter what quick charge tech, max you can get 9-10w, only with vivo chager can get 20w, doesn't really work with pd or qc4.0
