[Q] charger question

Hello,
I have a micro usb charger that cam with my hp touchpad. looking at the label it seems like it supplies a 2A current as opposed to the 1A our phone takes. Can i use it on the G2x resulting in faster charging or will i damage the battery?

You can use it as long as it supplies the correct the voltage. I use a 2amp charger with my G2X and I love how fast my phone charges. The phone will only draw as much as it can.

A faster charge results in a hotter battery. Some people think fast charging the battery is also the cause of the infamous SOD (Sleep of Death). Keep an eye (or ahnd) on your phone and make sure it is not getting too hot while on the charger.

The hotter the battery goes, the shorter the battery life span will result as li-ion battery doesn't quite like in hot temp. Never tried a 2A charger to charge my G2X, so I would not know. But I am using a 1A charger to it and it works great If 2A charges does not cause the battery to go too hot, it should be fine.

I've been using this charger since May with no issues. The battery will only draw as much as its capable of drawing. As long as the voltage is the same as the stock charger then there is no issue. You could connect it to a 5 amp charger and it would still only draw the 1.x amps its designed to draw.

Going too low on amperage is where you have to be careful.

+1 on that, LG may be dumb, but they're not dumb enough to let their phone overload with un-needed electricity.

New battery charger

Hello,
my battery charger stopped working and i need a new one. I read a few review and i'm a bit confuesd, not every chargers with the capability to deliver 1000mAh works with every device. So which one oft them works with the desire s and delivers 1000mAh and not just 500mAh?

just buy a oem wall charger ,, easily found on ebay and also cheap

does it has any difference between 1000 and 500mah chargers? now i'm using original liveview charger with 500mah on it but also have 1A iPhone charger.

Overheating
im using an old S2 charger i think, its got an output of 5V, 0.7 amps and after flashing a costom rom, jellyfirebean im getting serious overheating issues, but only while charging with the phone on.
however i cant confirm this is the chargers problem yet
just a note, its the phone that heats up not the charger

Double that. Overheating can be only caused by the phone itself, or a defected battery (means it is near death, but for serius heating, you will notice like 1hrs of battery life for the phone).
On another note for the topic. I use 3 type of chargers for my phones:
At home my ASUS tab's one (which is rated 5V 1A at the standard USB, plus the extra for the dock, but it is ASUS specific), at work an old ZTE "dumbphone" charger (which is rated 5V 0.75A, and is a high frequency switching type, so really energy-efficient) and for any other my old SE X8's one, which is 5V 650mA (which is also switching type). Also dedicated charger cables, 1 nokia, 1 SE, 1 HTC and 1 ZTE at my car.
The phone's original 5V 1A is NRFB at the box of the phone, but I have a security backup Samsung charger (rated 5V 500mA and pass-trough type, so not really efficient, but stable) which works just fine. The S is not capable (or not enabled just yet) of fast charge mode AFAIK so no really chance for 500mA or more when charging (even when GPS and 3G on, and screen on max, which is aroung 430mA when I last measued it with a service cable).

yeah i can confirm it was the 2 year old htc battery
i am now using 2 anker 1600mah batterys and they last a LOT longer + come with an enternal charger so i always have one charged, it also charges the old htc battery too externally so i can now use 3 battieries mwahahahaa
note i did have to delete battery stats in cwm to recalibrate

Question about weird fast charge Galaxy S8+

I have 4 chargers on hand listed below...
1. Original Samsung Adaptive USB Charger
2. Anker PowerCore+ 10050+ QC 2.0 Charger
3. Anker PowerCore 10000
4. Pleson Fast Wireless Charger
Now my question is why is my S8+ charging similarly with all these chargers? Example @ 30%.... The Adaptive charger says 1 hr 9 min (reads fast charge), the Anker 10050+ says 1 hr 25 min (doesn't read fast charge), The Anker PowerCore 10000 says 1 hr 25 min (Not a fast charger), and the Pleson Fast Wireless Charger says 1 hr 44 min. I am confused.

Because only 1st one is actually fast charging your phone.
You should try 2 and 4 with original cable. If you have qualcomm version of s8 shold work

I'd echo the original cable and the wall plug that came with the device. Retry all 4 of these with the original cable and the wall plug.

Well I don't know if the Anker products are charging oddly because one is QC 2.0 and the other isn't, yet both have same 59 min charge time. So I question is the Samsung Adaptive charger is charging slow or fast? Here are some pics of the remaining charge with original black USB Cable.

From my experience, Samsung Devices don't really play nice with qc certified devices thanks to Sammy doing their own thing. What you are seeing is what made me buy Samsung's power kit.

I have no issues with my chargers, use stock charger blk, use sammy wireless charge pad with aftermarket cable and s7e wall plug charger and no issues. Still get fast charge. I even have a portable 10000mah sammy pack and use my gopro usb-c cable n gef fast charge.

Had similar problem. All my Anker QC2.0 doesn't fast charge my S8 while 3.0 does. got them both refunded while they are investigating.

They sent me another QC 2.0 car charger, and it did not fast charge. I am going to try Berkin USB-PD car charger and see how it goes.

Estimated time. Don't expect them to always show exactly the time.
I have QC 2.0 and 3.0 chargers and they all "fast charge" but I don't expect what the estimated time show to fully charge be accurate or else they wouldn't say estimate.

Yes except bestbuy carries that with a dual Samsung fast charger for car and a nice wireless upright fast charger all in one box for about $99 on sale every other week. Way more consistent everywhere now.

Compared to my s7edge this s8+ charges a lot slower. The s7e would fast charge and wirelessly fast charge from any third party wireless pads/adapters.
The s8+ is finicky about what activates fast charge (especially wireless) and even while in fast charge it does not charge as fast as s7.
My guess is samsung slowed the charging down to help with battery degradation.

I found a weird thing last night when I set my phone to charge at 2 AM with about 7% battery just to wake up around 6 AM and it being at 86% charged. That was a long time, I don't know what's going on. Either the phone isn't quick wireless charging or the Pleson Fast Wireless pad I have sucks.

So, I've seen this behavior too. If you see the charge stuck, unplug the cable and plug it back in. I'm not sure why, but that fixes the issue immediately.

Are you guys charging in a warm room? S8 will stop charging if the battery exceeds a certain temperature. Samsung really went overboard with battery safety after the Note 7.

S8 Plus Charging Rate

Has anybody measured the charging rate of the S8 Plus? More specifically has anybody checked to see how many amps they're charging at?
I'm using the app called Ampere and I'm only seeing a max of 1 amp regardless of what battery percent I start charging at.
This seems really bad considering this is suppose to be fast charging. On the pixel I was getting 2+ amps at all times. On the nexus 6p I was getting 1.8 amps.
Can anybody else also check to see what you're getting. Please post what the battery percent is at when up plug in to charge, and what the app Ampere is showing.
I am using original charging brick and original usb a to type c cable.

When the screen is on fast charging is disabled, when its off its charging at [email protected] from 0 to maybe 70% then it trickle charges.

With standard 2A charger, i can see 1600-1700 in ampere,
With QC 2.0 , am checking the voltmeter and it do the 9v charging,
So nothing wrong

i tried to use the phone when it charges and it doesn't slow down the charge rate....maybe if the device get hot then it slows down

No, i mean any decent 2A charger,
I use my country local brand Hippo, for example, and charging rate is good
The one came with the phone is QC 2.0 that can go faster than normal 2A charger, although it only rated at 1.67 but it's 9V

So this is what I've found out.
First of all the app Ampere only gives charging information for when the screen is ON and not OFF. I uninstalled the app and installed AccuBattery which does everything.
When charging with the screen on the phone charges with amps of 1.3 amps.
When charging with the screen off the phone charges at 2.5 Amps.
Again all original utilities used

This is interesting and annoying at the same time. I had no idea the phone charged at different rates based on if the screen was off or on. my previous htc 10 did not do this and charged fast anytime it was plugged in. while driving and running waze i noticed the s8 didnt charge as fast with the screen on but ill have to try with it off to see the rate. i also installed accubattery to test screen off charging rate since ampere doesnt. thanks

I have seen I think up to 1.5 amps or so. What ever the quick charge is rated for I would assume. Screen on full charge. 9 volts. At .5 amps

I mean the default charge rate. I'm checking in Galaxy Current Charge app & its shows approx 1500 to 1800 MA on screen off. Thats i want to know from others what they getting in their s8+?

Well I drained to 60% and recharged and on fast charge i got 1.5 amps or 1500 milli
I go off my cable it has never let me down
I have had to many device where the readings of the apps where off
That current cable is pretty accurate most apps I have seen on S8 though
I use it to detect charging problems on blocks,cords,and device Found the sweet spot on my old note 2 with it and made it usable for now again

It variates up and down a bit seems pretty stable till i turn on screen

So I bought a very cheap cable at the 'Action' (a discount store in the Netherlands) and I didn't believe what I saw.... 2.7 Amp, with SCREEN ON. I tested with 3 apps. It IS really the loading amp.
Unbelievable !! THe cable can be inserterd in 2 ways (everybody knows here, USB-C) With the label on the cable up works the fastest. I think charging with phone off goes even faster, till 80 %, maximal 45 min. Is this an update of Android for the S8plus or do I have an extremely good cable ?

I have some Anker brand USB-A to USB-C charging cables and just the wall wart (is there a technical name for those things?) from something... probably one of my old Samsung phones... it says "Adaptive fast charging" and output says "9.0 V === 1.67A or 5.0 V === 2.0 A".
( know that stands for "volts" and "amps", but I don't understand what the rest of it means... 2 Amps is "faster" than 1.67 Amps... I think... but what makes it charge at one speed or the other?)
My real questions:
1) Will using the USB-A to USB-A cable that came WITH the Galaxy S22 Ultra make a difference in charging speed?
2) Do I need to get a different "wall wart"? If I want one that supports USB-C plugging into it, I do, but will it gain me anything?

See how what you have now performs. The best/fully compatible would be Samsung own charger. And any decent quality cables

I use my original charger from my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 on my S22 ultra. It charges it about 90 minutes. I suspect this is the same charger as yours.
1.67amps x 9v is 15.03watts.
5.00apms x 5v is 10.00watts.
15 Watts is a nice steady rate to be charging your battery at.
45w...is really too fast if you want your battery to last more than 2 years.

45W is nothing and won't really degrade your battery much. Also, keep in mind, that batteries degrade regardless if you use them or not, they have a shelf life. So, in 2-3 years you will mostly need to replace your battery anyway if you plan to keep your phone for that long (assuming that you want the battery to be at it's "full" capacity after 2-3 years).

Even still...I'll keep slow charging my phone...knowing that it will last 5 years.
My note 4 battery outlasted the actual phone. The touch screen packed up first. The battery still lasted 6 hours screen on.
I replaced it with a Note 9. Again...the battery was fine...and original. Same story...6 hours of screen on time.
Now I have a Note 22....or S22 Ultra.
I have used the Note 4's charger for all of these phones...with my 10watt Kosee wireless charger. Even on the Note 4...with a wireless adapter.

It's still 10 Amperes into the battery.
I'm often running ~10 Amperes into my dual 224 Ampere-hour 6 Volt "golf cart" batteries.
They also weigh about 130 pounds more than your battery!

It doesn't push 10 Amperes into the battery.
PPS charging is pushing from 3.3V to 20 Volts at 2.25Amps, it's dynamic charging and it depends on the device's state (temperature of the battery, the charger, the capacity of the battery).
I'm not sure where you get this information, and not trying to be rude now but maybe you should check up on both PD and PPS charging protocols that Samsung uses before assuming it's charging at 10 amps.

1. With Galaxy S22 there is an USB-C to USB-C cable not USB-A (maybe a typo on your side). That cable is rated for the full power charge the device supports, that is 45w. It can make a difference if you are using it with a proper charger (that's the actual naming for the "wall wart"...it is called "charger" or "wall charger" btw).
2. Yes, you should get a different one if you wanna charge faster. Your actual charger is a (so called) "fast" charger with the charging power varying from 15W to 10W. Your phone supports from 25W up to 45W, that are the "ultra fast" chargers.
I'd suggest to get at least a 25W charger, also there are some extremely good Anker alternatives (even better that original Samsung chargers), look for Nano II 635 or 615 Anker chargers.
If you wanna keep your phone for an extended period (like 4-5 years or more), you might wanna activate that battery protection charge that only charges it till 85% and will preserve it for a longer period. If you switch phones after 2, even 3 years, don't bother, charge it as you like fast or slow till 100%

If the charger is rated at 45 Watts and sometimes actually delivers that:
45 Watts / (maximum) 4.3 Volt battery > 10 Amperes
Maybe they are PWM-ing it or whatever, but the peak current is > 10 Amperes.
Ok, we can subtract the efficiency of the buck converter, but it's still in that neighborhood.

What would happen if I bought and used a 65-watt charger? Would it automatically drop down to 45 watts to charge my S22 Ultra? Could it damage it, etc.?

1.Q. Yes.
2.Q. It not gonna damage it if not pushed to full 100% or discharged completely before connecting.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but is there a decent wireless charger, that will give me fast wireless charging with a Spigen powerarc arcstation pro 65w charger? I have tried about 3-4 cheap crap ones, and they all give reg wireless charging of about 22% for an hour's charge.

The S22U‘s maximum wireless charging rate is only 15 watts. I use the Spigen PowerArc ArcField 15 watt wireless charger, which is powered by a conventional charger via USB C cable and works very well charging my S22U.
