Car charger for Samsung Galaxy S4

Has anyone managed to get a car charger for this phone?
I've just tried to charge the phone with my car charger modded to "AC" mode by shorting the middle pins... and the S4 gets nada...
Have they changed the charging mechanics?

Is that what's going on? I was wondering what the heck was wrong with my charger!

Yup, the car charger still charges my old HTC, even with the Samsung cable... so there's definitely something different inside the charger...

I have a 2A usb car charger with generic cable to charge my devices. It's nothing special, but it works with my S4. Hope that helps.

I have this charger and it charges my GS4. Of course, I bought it 2 years ago.

I have a 500mA car charger and it didn't work. Even though it worked on my Xperia Z. I bought a 2A charger from Maplin and it works just fine.

Hmmm will have to look into getting a decent 2A charger then and NOT modifying it...

So I opened up my car charger and un-modded it back to original and it works like a charm now

I've got a 1A Belkin car charger and it seems to overload after a while when charging my gs4.
The green light on it blinks and my phone makes that sound when you plug in the charger.
Takes a while for it to happen but gets more frequent the longer you have it plugged in.
The charger works fine with my gf's nexus 4.

I'm using the Motorola charger (big blue circle). Got it for my Razr Maxx a year or so ago (I've gone through like 4 phones since then) and it works wonderfully. It's the best micro-USB car charger I've ever seen. Coiled cord, huge blue light (but not too bright since it's an ambient-style light), and charges quickly.

Seriously, the best car charger I've ever owned. 950mA is also one of the highest car chargers I've used.

It charges at the same amperage as the stock wall charger that came with the S4. I use the Galaxy Charging Current app to check.

Do you use it with the original cable or a generic one? I read that there are some differences in charging amount using also different cables. This SPIGEN Car charger looks very interesting. Thanks!

I have tired a few most only charged at 400-500 m-amps (aka running with gps and screen on discharged it faster then it was charging) with some random picks at fry's i found one that was marked 3 amp charger that whould do 780 m-amps so the phone still makes head way chargeing while being used as GPS
FYI the tool i use to measure says the Samsung charger is 1900 M-amps and my apple ipad charging brink is 1400 just for reference.
tool is Galaxy Charging Current Lite i would link it but the forum will not let me

You can also use elixir 2, the battery stats will give amps while discharging and change when charging. I think it uses the current_now as reference.

I have a 2a usb car charger and I just use the usb cable from the phone. I bought the car charger from best buy.

Different USB cables do pass different current even if using the same charging main. From tests I've done so far, a generic 3 ft USB 2.0 cable I randomly purchased online only allowed around 400 mA. An old Blackberry Torch 9810 cable allowed around 1200 mA. Original cable that came with the S4 allows 1900 mA. These numbers are from using the original wall charger main that came with phone.

I don't know the exact current I'm getting, but from the battery monitor widget app, I'm seeing at least 1amp or higher of positive current.

Sony Charger not the one which came with the Phone

I have bought a new USB charger which is of 2Amph. It charges my phone amazingly fast even if i am using the phone. however the problem arises at the last point of charging that when the percentage is at 96 percent phone charges very slowly. i would like to Know if this is a problem or does it happen with all chargers?
Model : CP- AD2 2.1A output with saperate USB cable. (Looks genuine) which also come with one year warranty.

I think it's a protection feature of the phone. And anyways 96 percent should be more than enough for a full day's use

The Xperia quick-charging kicks in, because you use more than 1.5amps charger.
Xperia Z will consume about 1.3A - 1.5A usually, even if your charger is sooo big, e.g 10A
But, the fast charging must stopped somewhere near 85%, and even slower at 95%, this is because the lithium-ion or lithium polymer safety consideration
at 95%, the phone charge the battery at about 100-150mA,that's why soooo slow to reach 100%

[Q] sm-p905 Charging with non genuine charger

Gday All,
I realise that this topic has been mentioned in a few threads, but from what I could find, there is no definiteve fix.
Is there a way to disable this so that a non-genuine charger will work once the screen turns off, or if I was to root the device, is there then a way to do it.
Please dont flame me, I'm a total newb to android, and I dont mind admitting that.
Bit dissapointed that Samsung has sunk to this.

Not sure what issues you are having but I have been using a few different chargers without issue. Which exact charging method are you trying to use (cable type, charger type, charger rated output voltage and amperage)?

The problem isn't that the charger is 3rd party.
The problem is that the device requires a 5.1V 2A charger or higher.
Anything lower than that is simply not powerful enough. You can find these specs in small lettering on the charger. Most cheap 3rd party launchers are 5V 1A.

I was one of the ones having problems with it needing to have the screen on to charge. It was a problem with the charger (yes, it was marked as a high amperage charger), changed to a different one (Anker 40W 5 port) and it's working fine.

Huge second on the Anker. I love that charger by the way. With various devices I would get irritated with some refusing to charge on certain chargers (my BlackBerry Bold in particular). I've since switched to the Anker 5 port 40 Watt and no longer worry about which cable I'm reaching for. Every device gets the power it needs with no fuss.

Initially i was using a belkin 2 port, 2.1amp per port charger, which would start charging but stop once the screen was off.

This seems logical, but it does work when i use the genuine charger from my sgs3 which is a 5vdc 1a charger. Takes all night to charge, but charges non the less.

That's because the retention rate of the S3's charger is higher than that of a generic cheap 3rd party one. Where the S3 charger actually delivers 0.8-1A, the cheaper ones usually average around 0.5A.
This is why charging over a usb 2.0 port without any power boosts also (usually, there have been some exceptions) doesn't work.
I usually charge mine with my Note 3 or S5 charger, as the three are all the same charger.

What amp charger does the Note 4 have?

Is it 2a?
I pre-ordered it and wish to have backup wall/car chargers ready to go for next week.

It's a 2A Quickcharge 1.0 unit. Quickcharge boosts the voltage (to ~9v from 5v) when the phone is less than 50%, so you can't get just ANY 2 amp charger and expect it to work as quickly.
If you care (or are willing to wait) Quickcharge 2.0 wall plugs should ship in ~2 months. That boosts the input to 15 volts (IIRC) and will supposedly charge from 0% to 100% in about 45 minutes.

yeah I guess I can wait. I can always keep an old 1a plug by the bed for long overnight charges.

So the charger on Samsung's website is not the same one that came with the Note 4?

Not sure it has anything to do with the Fast Charging hardware. The Fast Charging works with the provided charger, which is a dual voltage one. I used my iPhone's/iPad's car charger with my Note 4 and didn't notice a speed-up in charging time.
On a tangential note: I can't find anyone who sells the Note's fast charger separately yet and I needed another one for use with the Note 4 at the office. So I used the Asus charger that came with my original 3G Nexus 7 (which remains forgotten on a shelf). It works pretty well. I noticed that the Asus charger charged all my handsets (HTC One M8, Nexus 5, Z2, Oppo Find 7) pretty reliably -- the M8 and Nexus 5 seemed to charge faster compared with their stock chargers.
Anyone who's held the Asus charger knows it's a little bit bulkier and a few ounces weightier than the usual chargers that come with smartphones these days so there may be a hardware component to it. Whatever it is, it's probably the best standalone charger I've had the cables connect via a USB port so you can use it with your iPhone too.
If you can find at a garage sale or some random tech shop, you should pick one up. Works great with everything.

[Q] I just found out my N5 apparently supports fast charging

So my friend borrowed me his charger from his phone, which is a galaxy edge. It said it was charging rapidly and omg it sure did. It was super fast. Does the N5 support any kind of fast charge? Will this break my battert?

how many output amps was that charger?

I tried charger that came with Galaxy S6, which has output of 5V - 2A, and 9V - 1.7A when recognizes fast charging device. It charges my N5 from 15% to 100% in about one hour, but on lockscreen, it only says "Charging", and charges it really fast, without heating the phone, which then seems to be pretty much safe.
@tampitzel If the phone doesn't get hot to touch on the back while not used when charging (warm is ok), then it probably is safe to use.
If the screen starts to flicker, or doesn't respond well to touches (eg. while typing), that means that charger is giving too much voltage and that's bad for phone. But that mostly happens with cheap non-original chargers.

I will check, I didn't look to be honest, I was just baffled by fast charging

Nexus 5's OEM Charger (by LG) is rated at 1 amp - whereas the Blackberry OEM travel charger (folding plugs) is rated at 1.8 amp - been using it for a year - and, it fast charge the battery typically in 1 to 2 hours (even when it's down to 25% to 40% on heavy use for the day) with its extra long micro-usb cable. http://www.amazon.com/BlackBerry-Pr...1449956341&sr=8-6&keywords=blackberry+charger
No need for custom rom or other "tweaks" - for in-car use, a 2-amp mobile charger with a high quality micro-usb cable is the "key".

Good and beefy cable makes an improvement more than you would ever imagine!

The stock charger is rated for 1.2A not 1A.
The Nexus 5 doesn't have any kind of official fast charging. However it will allow up to a 1.8A charge rate. Plug in a 2.4A charger it won't go any higher than 1.8A. Its what the TI power circuitry is rated for.
I find it a bit strange that through coincidence that the Blackberry folding blade charger is the best (I would say perfect) charger for the N5. It was cheap and plentiful as well as high quality.
