Both my wife and I have a Pixel 2 (non-XL). Both are on 8.1 with the December security update. Prior to the 8.1 update, we both could happily cast YouTube, Netflix, and photos from Google Photos without issue to our smart TVs and our Chromecast Ultras. Yesterday, I discovered that all that has changed since the 8.1 update. We can only cast YouTube to our TVs and Chromecast Ultras now. We cannot cast Netflix at all, nor is there an option to cast photos anymore. We cannot cast our screen via the cast shortcut found in the swipe down menu. Also, when I go view nearby devices to cast to in the Android settings...there is nothing listed.
To narrow it down to an issue with the phones: I factory reset the Chromecasts (didn't solve the problem). I factory reset one of the Pixel 2s (didn't solve the problem). Then, using my laptop I was able to cast Netflix just fine to my devices.
I called both Chromecast support and Pixel 2 hardware support. They were unable to fix the issue. Pixel support finally surmised that it is a bug with 8.1 and offered to send both my wife and I phones with 8.0 installed and told us not to update until this issue is fixed. I chose to keep our phones as this option did not seem worth the hassle. However, if no one else is having this issue with their Pixel 2 on the 8.1 update...then I will need to call back and obtain two new devices.
I would appreciate it if this wonderful community would see if they have the same issue or not and report back.
Thanks!

Works fine for me. Have you opened the Google Home app and made sure it's linked to your Google account, or that the cast device is seen there?
Occasionally need to stop and start cast again for google pictures, but it works. Netflix is not a problem.

I have a couple Amazon Fire HD8 (2018) and was sad to learn, just now, that while the older devices had the ability to do screen mirroring/display mirroring this feature was removed for "newer" devices.
Is there any way to get this functionality back? I've used Fire Toolbox to get google services onto my tablet along with a couple other things, but on the handful of mirroring apps I've looked at it tells me "This device is not supported." I'm uncertain if this is a hardware issue (such as the kindle lacking a chip that can do wireless casting) or a software issue (where Amazon removed a specific system file). Has anyone found a way to fix this?

You can mirror your Fire tablet screen with a Google Cast devices such as Chromecast and Android TV (Chromecast built-in).

5. Press Cast my screen button under the screen.
6. Enjoy
I have a same model as yours that I have tested on my 4K Android TV (Chromecast built-in) but the sounds didn't capture.

So that is half the solutions, thanks! But what about true device mirroring? For example, what if I wanted to be able to view my android screen on a windows PC?

Works for chinese version, not sure about other models but you can try. All that still works. Google services, call recording, disable app through adb, etc. Only issue I discovered is music stutters if you don't switch sound effects to Kirin or another effect. How to = Just change region to china in app gallery, then apply and download beta through my Huawei app (You'll see available devices, just choose yours) then go to settings and software update. It'll now show up for download......
Updated mine yesterday and can notice (too early) an increase in battery life by 10-15%. Also I like the UI much better than Android 11. All google apps are working without any issues. I have the Chinese model.
Got Harmony 2.0.0.165 on my phone waiting for update. Will Gmail and other apps work? How to disable upgrade?

Post this update every product from Google works fine without any issues. If you want to disable the update change the setting to disable overnight install
I'm assuming Ascending ringtone is still not able to be disabled as I have not found it. I hate the feature and wish they would put the option back to turn it off and it rings at full and not this BS as I have missed many calls due to this.

Thanks.
All my Google apps, WhatsApp and text messaging work just fine. Notification has changed - swipe down to see them.
I really think the snappy feel of my mate 20x is lost after harmony os 2.0... the top right corner of the phone is also heating up a bit.. its been around 8 hours since the update. What do you guys think? Will it improve?
Anyway to get harmony os on global mate 20x evr l29
Is there a way to stop the auto update to 12? I had to send mine to Nokia to get downgraded back to 11 cause for one thing, it killed the dual SIM capability. Then, i just hate the UI and refuse to pay for apps to fix the look. I have looked everywhere and all the guides say to go to a certain place and disable them, but that doesnt exist in Android ONE i guess. I dont really want to try a custom ROM cause im sure it wont support dual SIM either.
Find the OTA update app and do a adb edit to disable it. Package Disabler has a variant for model other than Samsung, that might work too.
On Samsung's they look like this, ws.dm is the prime offender...

Where do you find this?
I use this. For non-Samsung devices navigate towards the bottom of that page. You can contact them by email with a question too.

Give them a business day or two... jeeesze. Do a charge back on the card if you must. I've been using them for over 3 years, no worries, as I am now.
I have downloaded it and it's searching for my watch and it can't find it. I did factory reset and still nothing

that's no help. it gets stuck at the set up
Uninstall and then reinstall then... I mean that's what I would try doing. Just trying to help. Some people don't appreciate anything anymore.
It works now, I dunno what changed but I just tried again for like the 20th time and it finally worked
Glad to hear.
Im having the same problem, i tried more that 20 times.
"Couldnt connect to your watch".
Same problem here.
Restarts don't help, reinstalling assistant (watch and phone) doesn't help, and clearing cache for assistant and Google app doesn't help
After i factory reset my watch, the setup went smoothly on the first try.
This worked
I also had to factory reset and it didnt set work on the first attempt
Could be due to your geographic location?
Try doing this.....
devils avocado.....
why couldnt this question be answered in an existing thread (of which there are 5 already of which the best palce was arguably "Official Google Assistant For GW4 Available")....was creating yet another thread on a hot topic thereby diluting discussion on the existing ones, where no doubt the issue would come up, really the best idea?
creating an entire new thread just because maybe youre in a hurry feeling FOMO and want immediate answers is possibly/maybe/arguably kinda selfish
Apparently it will not work on Android 11 below ,Well this is Bull* by Google, they are forcing you to be on Android 11 for it to work

Pretty useless if you do not own one of these flagship models I'd say...
This update just popped up on mine today and I applied it (it zapped 5% of my fully-charged watch that was still on the charger the whole time!) Then the Wearable app wanted updating on the phone, so I did that as well. Seemed to work OK so far.

Yep. Fewer and fewer people care about "flagship" models. I bought an A52 5G and ended up with a very fast phone, SD card, several capable cameras, real headset jack, OLED screen, and in-screen fingerprint sensor for under $400 (a little more than a year ago). Or I could have spent, what, DOUBLE for a "flagship" with a little better CPU, case, and camera, while losing the headset jack I use all the time? No thanks.
I own the same smartphone A52s and exactly for the same reason.
Did you find a way to use the Camera Control (samsung official app) on our A52s?
I have updated the watch and now the back button doesn't work...
Am I the only one with this issue?
EDIT: ok, after a watch reset and restore it works again...
Finally rolling out for the my R890 in Denmark

I didn't and it sucks. I have to use third-party one (only camera one actually works for me), which lacks in picture quality.
