Buy a different phone?
Android intentionally keeps apps in memory for faster opening so less free ram isn't exactly a bad thing.
Exactly. I tried disabling/uninstalling stuff (and pretty much!) from my Android phones so many times and NEVER saw any performance improvement. It is all imho placebo effect. Every custom ROM MUST be slower than stock, if for nothing else, because it is deodexed. The thing is that people flash new ROM on empty phone and go woooow, how fast... yea, wait a couple of months S8+ is fast enough, and keeping more free RAM will only decrease performance, because as mjones73 stated, it keeps apps in RAM in order to run them faster. Better battery? Probably by disabling or not installing some stuff that runs in the background, but better yet - get a power bank or just... charge! The wall outlets are everywhere. I don't get this tuff with more battery. Just plug it in and charge. New batteries can be charged as soon as they fall below ~ 80%.... and it won't affect battery life etc.

I've a buddy of mine that found ATK on his own, installed it, and says he sees a "noticeable" improvement in speed on his Captivate (And he's got the lag fix already). I tried to reason that it's placebo but he does swear, it was a large improvement in speed. I can look online and find other reports of this.
And before you go down that route, he had nothing much more than stock installed (Facebook, etc... Nothing that I don't have).
I've also seen someone go from 8 hours of battery life to 12 hours just by installing ATK.
Explain these.

I've seen both sides. I haven't noticed any speed differences running ATK compared to not running it.
I have also seen another side that says ATK hurt their battery life.
Seems there's too much conflicting info out there. You can argue til you're blue in the face that "it is negative"... But you cannot deny results some people are saying. So I'm just asking those of you that argue from that perspective... To explain these situations?

A quick question, does your buddy kill the processes and then let the phone sit? Sure this is going to increase the battery life but so does pulling it from the phone all together.
Bottom line is there is no definitive answer as to the merits of ATK. If you like it, use it.
Most results tend to be anecdotal in nature. Those that get better battery life out of using ATK probably don't realize it's due to ATK killing off bad apps, and not due to freed-up RAM. If Android needs more RAM, it will shut down programs by itself. That 3MB of RAM you freed up with ATK isn't nearly as useful as the fact that same app you just killed was also hogging your CPU. Cause/effect, correlation/causation, etc.
People also get what's ive heard as the "new phone syndrome" where the phone is used constantly the first couple days, and the battery life is then thought to be horrible.
Also tell your buddy to look up settings > about phone> battery usage as the battery is largely affected by voice calls and the screen. A 5 min call uses more than you think.(thus the reasoning behind why I don't use atk)

To a large extent battery life, phone, and app performance will always be somewhat subjective. No two people are going to use their phones in the exact same manner. depending on how a person uses their phone and what they have installed on their phone ATK may very well improve their phone's performance - especially if they have a bad acting app on their phone.
As for my personal testing, my phone does better without ATK. However I was a little biased against ATK from the beginning and this could have affected my results. I have used a half dozen different linux distros over the past eight years and while I have many times had to kill or force close an application, I have never needed to manually manage memory. Linux generally does a good job at managing memory and multitasking.
I can't say for your friend, but I was using a task killer for the first month I had the phone, and now I do not. So far performance, and battery life are the same with and without. I finally removed my old task killer and installed watchdog all I have it set to do now is simply alert me if an app is using excessive cpu, which would likely be due to poor app quality anyway. Other than that I've had no issues.

I guess this is true. I've never seen claims that Android manages CPU, etc effectively, I've just seen claims about the RAM usage.

That's what I've done as well, and yea... Can't tell a difference with and without (of course I also go "back" out of apps when I'm done).

I am a bit concerned about the battery life of the upcoming htc. The first reviews I have read about it on german blogs speak from 12 to 15 hours battery life under medium to heavy usage. Even though, one needs to remain cautious with these numbers as the software is not finalized, I wouldn't expect these to double when final.
The Incredible S has a quite satisfying battery life according to users experience. But the Sensation has a bigger screen, higher resolution, a full load of 3D effects and almost the same battery. I fear the battery life will be insufficient in that case, even though dual core is supposed to consume a little less.
Samsung has built a slightly bigger battery on his GSII and people seem to experience a very good battery life. But Amoled doesn't drain the battery when black is displayed and the whole UI has been designed in black for this purpose. So the Sensation will probably not be able to achieve such an autonomy.
Hopefully it will still go through the day under heavy usage. Otherwise I might gonna settle for incredible s instead.
Has anyone read other numbers somewhere?

This is how I see it. Multi-core cpu's theoretically are more power efficient. You spread work over both cores, if software is optimized, to allow for less "strain" on the cpu. From what I can tell they are "optimizing" their Sense UI to run on both cores which efficiently manages the amount of power is being used. This now gives you less power draw hence power is saved. The battery isn't as big as some devices, but in my honest opinion I believe you will get a little more than 12-15 but probably won't get up to double that. This is all based off of my own conclusions after reading several articles. I may be wrong and if you need to correct me feel free. =) All I will say is you probably won't have to worry about battery issues.

- I found some apps what helps, similar to task killers, but they seems to be abit 'better' in some way, not sure if task killers are actually good, but I will give it a shot for a day or two to see some improvement.
- What about these performance packs, are they really improving performance, if there is such pack out, is it possible to change it to battery saving pack which will lower your performance in exchange for battery life and how long will it last longer if will made such pack?
- Custom ROMs, can they actually increase battery life without killing performance or maybe boosting performance AND battery life? and is there any good ROM out yet for LG Optimus 3D?
- Is it possible to use LG Optimus 2X rom's for LG Optimus 3D?

Software can have a great impact on battery life and custom ROMs can help without losing and sometimes even gaining preformance.
There are NO custom ROMs out for O3D, the phone is just a few weeks old, ROMs takes time, O3D will probably take even more time than usually since the 3D is new to the platform and to the once creating alternatives.
However there are things happening on the ROM side but don't ask for a ETA etc since there is no way of telling and people do it on their free time.

What about other similar phone ROMs, like Optimus 2X, possible to import that in O3D just to add this 3D space seperate or maybe just make Sense 3.0 with 3D space. I'v heard Optimus 2X is same as Optimus 3D, it's just some features are in 3D, but rest seems to be same as in 2X?
Can someone please post some example of real world use versus battery life, so the people can get a feel how much the battery lasts on average.
Thinking of getting myself a O3D but i am concerned about battery life.

You won't get 24 hours out of the battery I charge mine in the morning so its full at 9 ish and by maybe 9pm it can be around 30% or less but that is best case scenario.
I think if you don't have a car or a way of charging this phone a spare battery is needed to guarantee a full day.
Would be interesting to find out if the 1900mah battery's I seen on ebay make any difference.

No the 2X or any other phone doesn't have the same hardware, the chipset in O3D is completely new (to the smart-phone scene), some things might work but something that saves battery on the 2X might actually do the opposite to the O3D, but have no fear, in general all Android phones get better at battery handling and performance as new ROMs are released both Official and Custom, also Android itself is getting better and since this is a dual-core phone 2.4 that is said to optimize for dual-core will feel a big gain hopefully
Juice Defender and other battery logs and optimizers made it worse for me. I leave gps and wifi deactivated until i need it,screen brightness on auto. I keep mine loading over night. I leave home at 7am and am back at 6pm with 40-60% left on my battery.moderate use,some calls music email surfing. Im really happy so far!

I am getting the 1800 battery myself. it'll give more juice to the phone. Also if no task killer is used, you will experience a much faster drain in battery. There are tons of apps opened by default. So a task killer with careful plan will gain quite a lot in power saving.
havn't seen alot improvement from battery doctor, but atm waiting on new battery to arrive, will see how long will it take on new battery and is it gona be better then stock one.
also now using juicedefender with aggresive profile, will se how will it boost my battery life
I've notice that ram usage on ics seems to be a bit higher than on gb, and battery life is just a tad bit worse, but not by too much. I have debloated as much as I could and kept minimal syncing, and running on mhx's super lite rom ATM. I still get more ram usage than on gb doing simple tasks. I'm just curious if lower ram usage actually contributes to battery battery life. Thanks!

from what I understand about destop power usage, it doesnt matter how much you are using, but how many dimms you have. im sure our phone only has one 1gb dimm, using like 1-1.5v ish. which is pretty low on the power drain meter.
I would think with the LCD screen being by far the largest contributor to battery use, ram use would not be a very large contributing factor to battery savings. It will depend on how you use your phone though.

Ram usage absolutely does not negatively impact your battery life. If anything increased ram usage will help battery life. If you reload an app that is in your ram, it takes much less computing power than to reload it from scratch, which is why task killers are worthless because not only do they deprive you of this ability, they also use extra processing power to remove the task from ram. You have ram for a reason right? This is the reason you want your system to use your ram as efficiently as possible, which means you want it full.
If you haven't already, I'd recommend trying the 2100 mah extended battery for the Galaxy Nexus. I put it in my Skyrocket, and it works great.
Picked it up on sale for around $25 if memory serves about 2 weeks ago. Edit: removed portion of post regarding label removal and battery case sizing adjustment due to safety concerns from fellow members.

This helped the battery cover fit. Some folks had it fit fine without modification, but I did this before the instal (as folks talked about in another thread), just to be safe. Good luck.

if you want your phone to run smoothly, give it as much ram as you can! Android does an excellent job of managing ram.
Think about it like this. Android thinks of unused ram as "wasted ram". That's why task killers are no good my suggestion is to not worry about ram and leave it be. What I do to that really helps to save battery is to underclock the processor to about 1200mhz or 1000. My phone runs just as smooth as it did at 1500 no lag at all even when playing games like angry birds. And while you may not be able to overclock a stock kernal you can always underclock it

I always UC and UV and don't kill anything
I dusted off my xda account to let you know that this latest software is great... Battery life finally doesn't drain when not used. (battery drain while not used drives me crazy, wife has iPhone... Always in use, it lasts forever)
Anyway Im the guy that never have problems, not many apps. No smart watch connected. Not rooted, not gamer, no cloud.
My battery used to drain like 15% overnight. Not anymore. It barely uses 40% a day.. Before it was about 75%.
I'm planning to freeze my software update app. Bc whatever they did is working great.
My device is more than 12 mo old, and i use the 85% charge limit (slowest possible charge). Unlocked US model directly from Samsung.

My phone is slower than my previus Op7Pro, battery drain is huge and it's always hot. I have it from July 21 but this summer the phone has been unusable under the sun or on the beach because of the huge thermal throttling. I had to splash in the swimming pool while taking photos of my children because it was very hot and went in thermal protection.
Battery life is terrible too, I've to charge at least twice a day even without using it.
Do you think is something that can be solved by the Samsung support?

Turn off global power management, find the battery/bandwidth hogs and deal with each on a case by case basis ie optimize it. All Samsung's should be optimized for best performance.
Package Disabler is something I always use but it's not my only tactic.
Since the N10+ Samsung has lost its balance.
That said my now cool running snappy fast N10+ was once a stuttering, hot running battery/bandwidth hungry hog. It doesn't seem like the same device now, it runs like a bat out of hell. Been running like this for 2 years on the same load. All you can do is try to optimize it.
Samsung Tech support? Bah-ha-ha-ha, don't count on it. Rarely are they helpful, but occasionally you get lucky. Updates tend to break not fix things... think before you click and disable all auto updates especially firmware.

About the power governor I'm using the mid option named High ( I have Optimized - High - Maximum) but I've tried the other two options and wait I've seen is bad performance (no increase in battery life) or increase of the phone temperatures with no real benefit in the daily use.
I'm hating this phone, I'm thinking to change asap, I'm waiting for the Pixels, hoping Google is able to manage the thermal issues better than Samsung.
About the support I don't mean the one by the phone, I know it's useless , I would mean if my thermal and battery problems can be related to some hardware issues.

It's in Device Care under battery. Individual app battery background settings don't invoke global power management so you can do that instead.
That's just the start. You probably need to use a package disabler or adb edits to disable about 70-80 bloatware apps.
This is how on my N10+'s its configured.
Unlike latter Samsung flagships the N10+ is a well balanced phone in terms of form factor, usability, functionality and power consumption.
It supports expandable storage up to 1tb.
It seems that disabling the global power management the slug mode has been disabled too. I need to check it in the next days if the situation stays like this or not. In any case I still need to block the bloatware.
