p10 display problem - General Questions and Answers

Hi guys. I'm having problems with my P10. I have bought a second-hand P10, 6 months old and in mint condition. I removed the factory plastic film and put a tempered glass on. The next day I noticed that i see white digitizer lines and discoloration around the touched area even on light presses. I have removed the glass and after about 15 minutes without the display protector, the things returned to normal. I put this down to poor protector quality. I used it like that for 2 days, with no issues. Then, I decided to put a new plastic film to avoid accidental scratches. After only 10 minutes, to my surprise, I noticed the same distortions on the display. Upon googling for a bit, I learnt that my phone may be suffering from static electricity problem. Is this correct, and if so, do I RMA? The display distortions from the electricity are most noticable when you try to remove the plastic film looking at the display at the same time.... After the removal, the things seem to stabilize.... Any suggestions welcome. (if important, both the plastic film and the glass were no name products)

Removing scratches?

Hey!
Well today I got my first scratch that is visible with the screen turned on. I heard that you can remove scratches with a product called 'Brasso', but I was wondering if this will cause more damage to my screen. Is it safe to use on my phone? And will it damage my screen more?
Thanks in advance!
I thought Brasso was for cleaning metal, I didn't know it had any effect on plastic.
In the past I have taken scratches out of plastic with both Jewellers Rouge (a fine white powder used to take scratches out of glass), and T-Cut (a auto-body pain restorer with a mild abrasive). Either technique will possibly result in a highly polished area, but this is unlikely to be noticeable when switched on - maybe even less so if you put a screen protector on.
I know the phone isn't glass, but I've taken a very noticeable scratch out of a glass TV screen before now - a scratch with pixels behind seems to magnify, and so makes it very noticeable. You could see the repair when the TV was off, but it looked perfect when the TV was on.
Obviously, there's always a risk you could make things worse by trying to take the scratch out.
Cheers,
Steve.

Funny smudge on screen?

I used my Nexus S without a screen protector, and there was one day when I was using the phone heavily, this part of the screen felt a little rough to the touch when I was swiping it.
Now when I look at the screen I see these faint track marks on the screen that aren't scratches, but it's like something smudged the screen. I have wiped it with microfibre cloth (My Oakleys pouch) but I can't remove this smudge.
It's barely visible when the screen is on but you can see it if the screen is off.
Does anybody else have this problem? Is it a scratch or can I wash this off somehow?
I have similar spots... it's most likely the oleophobic coating wore off in that area. Not sure how it happens, but it seems to be ****ty coating.

I also have one such small spot that is only visible when the screen is off, and only visible at a certain angle with a lot of light. It's been there since I got the phone. It actually looks like it's under the glass, but I can't tell for sure. I can't feel it. I've been keeping an eye on it and I'll utilize Best Buy's protection plan if it gets worse. Im glad I'm not the only one, but this is a little disappointing.
It's problably the oleophobic coating like others said. I have the same thing on mine, and have been thinking of exchanging it because of it. But I think I might as well keep it, as this phone has no other problems, and I'm sure it will probably wear off any phone I get with due time.
Take a paper towel and lightly go over that area. I bet it comes clean so you can't see it anymore until you wipe your oily fingers in that spot again. It seems oils like to get stuck in those spots unless you clean it with something that absorbs oils, and isn't reused over and over.
Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah I am hesitant to do a return as my phone works great with none of the issues faced by others.
I'll try cleaning it as suggested. Thanks!

I had the smudges that Kayatoast talked about. I just wiped it off with a paper towel and it disappeared. I guess we must clean it with something that absorbs oil.
My smudges probably came from the hand lotion...
I've also decided not to return mine because I don't want to get a replacement phone with a worse problem.
As for wiping it off, this may work for others in some situations, but the spot on mine is definitely a blemish/defect. Cleaning it has zero effect.
I used iklear to clean the screen then wiped it down with a microfibre cloth. That took care of the smudge. Then I slapped a screen protector on it and that took care of the smudge..now to get rid of those air bubbles..lol.
I recommend this brand: http://www.protectionfilms24.com/pr...geraeteklasse=7&marke=Samsung&modell=4603&go=
Arrived in 2 days, made by 3M and doesn't affect my screen clarity at all.
I just realized the same type of smudge on mine today. It's not on top of the screen, but seems like it's under it. Like others, I didn't want to exchange it because everything else works fine plus I'm out of my 30 day period with no exchange.
If I remember, I'm probably going to do a warranty exchange before it ends.
When I was cleaning my screen to put on my cheap eBay screen protector, I noticed the same smudge in the middle of my screen. No amount of cleaning removed it completely. On went the screen protector, and "Voila", smudge disappeared .
BTW, the eBay screen protector is very close to screen feel as the naked screen and is completely clear. Free with the $3.99 shipped silicone case... gotta love eBay!!!

You know, I thought this was a joke until I got the cheap screen protectors that came with the S gel case. Yeah, it disappears. Weird since it looked like the smudge was under the screen.
Phew im glad im not the only one, the smudge is barely noticeable except under light and while the screen is off. Going to try to clean it.
Is the smudge you guys are talking about, blue by chance? I have a slight blue streak underneath my screen since it was purchased. To best describe it, it looks like a shiney blue streak from cleaning with windex that never dries.

Mate 7 Durability ?

There is still no drop test available for this device. Have any one of you dropped the phone to the ground yet ?
Important to know if you used screen protector or not.
I have removed the screen protector, to get a better image. I did drop my phone to the floor, it did glide from the chair straight down with the "screen" down From about half meter (chair level). Luckily.. not a single scratch on the phone.. I know half meter is not impressive.

Well.. the hardness of the material is of high importance.. Concrete floor..is the worst.
However I refuse to buy any flipcover for this device, since the thinness of the phone is important
if you are going to use a big phone like this...
Glass screen protectors seem not be a choice either, since it seem most people have problems to apply them properly due to the surface of the phone is not 100% straight.
Dropped mine 2 times. First time in the snow on the ground and second time on the road. Has some little scratches on aluminium case and one scratch on white part next to lcd screen. Has tempered glass on it.
All the times I have dropped my phones the root cause have been "sleep deprivation" , I know I should be extra careful those days at work when I have not sleeped enough hours, if I have slept only 4 hours in the night I am more likely to drop my phone.. My last G2 did surrive 3 months I hope my m7 will surrive longer. in the spring I hope there is some phones on the market that want me to upgrade, maybe the LG G4 ?
I am little bit worried about the second hand value of the M7. in Sweden there seem to be no explosion of "popularity" of the phone, it was more in the first month of the launch but now it seem less.
I am stubborn to not use any flipcover on this device. Since The big size of the phone makes the extra thickness the phone not enjoyable to handle and hold in hand... Using Glass screen protectors seem not work good with M7 since it is hard to apply because the screen is not 100% straight.
Made a huge drop on the floor today luckily not scratches and the glass did not crack either I was very worried.. So it looks durability is not bad so far.

Drop test
I have "drop tested" my phone by accident twice already haha ... so far 0 scratches on it! maybe i was really REALLY lucky or its super durable phone! I have dropped my phone the first time from 1 meter on a wooden floor, and the second time from half a meter on the same wooden floor and has nothing, screen is perfect, no scratches on the edges, just nothing! I was amazed that it has nothing but its a fact for me
Got the Nillkin glass on it...99% straight, just the bottow right corner as a 1% of not perfectly strightness (not visible if glass not applied)...so for me Nillkin glass = 100% good choice
After 6 months finally I did drop the phone on stone floor, it did result in a quite big crack, but not too vissible, but yet big.
I did quickly order a glass protector.. to make sure the crack does not grow bigger.. I also have hopes that the glass protector will make the crack on the glass even less visible..
I did not have time to look thru which is the best glass protector, since I was in a hurry to get one to prevent the crack from getting bigger .
I bought this one https://www.mytrendyphone.se/shop/huawei-ascend-mate7-142979p.html
I hope it is one of the better ones... The glass is from Japan.
With this say, I can tell you, that the Mate 7 have surrived many big drops, if your phone will surrive will depend on luck but also mostly of the surface material, wood floor is no problem at all for mate 7 you can drop it many many times on wood floor, I have done that.
But on stone floor the percentage of several of the glass is a lot less! Then you really need to have the luck on your side.
I still consider Mate 7 onne of the more durable phones, how it compares with Note 4 would be interesting..
I think Samsung Edge series though are in a class in its own, from what I understand they do not use glass but plastic ?
I never dropped it and I never use cases
For me this phone is excellent!
EXCELLENT BATTERY LIFE!!!!!!!!

extremly frangile?

My rog phone screen just broke ,no harsh impact or drop, first time i had a phone cracking like that for no reason. Case since day one ,tempered glass screen protector and i carry the phone in a pouch. The screen protector had zero damage, the top layer of the glass is fine only the digitizer seems damaged and upon further inspection it seems the black finish don't last .Like i said it was in a case since day one and there several spot where the paint is just gone,it smooth not pitted, just seems the coating was not baked or applied properly. I ordered a replacement screen and will attemp to repair it myself as soon i recieve it,will report back if im successful or not with the repair.
Its not to complain against the device, just want to warm people to be extra careful with this one, maybe i just got unlucky considering these are first gen product

Thanks look like i will return on the phone and hope for some result.
The material quality of this phone is garbage, the front and back is all fragile glass while the frame is made out of silver aluminium with black color, after 1/2 year the phone starts to lose the black color coat and silver edges start to bleed out, even when using a case, something that i never had with my previous very high-quality Motorola phones, HTC produced the exact same ****. Disappointing for a 800€ device.

Question How is your Ultra holding up? Scratches etc

My ultra is now 3 months old. I have the burgundy version. Even though I’ve been particular about cleaning it there is a tiny paint chip on the camera
https://imgur.com/Yb9IkHY
small permanent case markings that look like dust particles.
https://imgur.com/hSyYaMo
tried using one of lens wipes to clean it but it didn’t come off.
I’m curious how phones are holding up for you guys.
Still pretty much same condition as when I took it out of the box, already had the case & screen protector waiting so I didn't waste any time when it was delivered.

I actually didnt notice these small dots. Looked pristine to me but when I was cleaning and saw them in direct light it was noticed. What color do you have? Can you share a photo of the bottom of the phone?

8 o’clock to the laser autofocus. Small white spec.
Any chance you can post a photo of the bottom of your phone?
Attached.
Leave rhe plastic film on the phone if using a case. Dust scratches the plastic instead.

Well I’ll be doing that next time. Already removed em
I was actually surprised how easy the screen has gotten a ton of small little scratches, suppose its my fault for hating screen protectors and cases, finally started using Whitestonedome screen protectors and currently using the latercase.
Surprisingly the back of my phone still looks brand new
Mine is good so far. It comes out of the case every other day and it and the case get a wipe down with a damp cloth. Then dried with a microfiber cloth before going back in the case.
If you leave the phone in the case for long periods of time, abrasive particles will get in between the phone and case and the damage begins.
Mine is doing great. I treat it like my car; I use it as designed, clean it occasionally, and do a little maintenance every so often.

I would say no. If you think of this single spot on top, it was most likely a one dust particle.

They actually look like dust particles on mine too. They might seem less pronounced given your colour though. Mine wont wipe off completely.
I have the Black one and no scratches toll now (using without case) but camera has small Spot... The white one with no paint on the shell from my friend ist perfekt till now... Think next time i go for white
Put an Otterbox on the device right away but not a screen protector. The screen is extremely prone to micro scratches which can only be seen when screen is off, or with very low backlight and dark image (I've had the device a month an already some prominent micro scratches) . Awaiting screen protectors in the mail. This is a bummer as previous versions of gorilla glass stood up better to micro scratches (never had nearly the micro scratches on my S20 which I ran for 2 years without screen protection) . Pay off I guess for having better shatter protection.
Iv been running case with a naked screen ever since I realized that every protector ive tried affects either swipe typing and more so Spen responsiveness. Thank God tmobile allows you to add insurance to phones they offer regardless if it's bought from them or 3rd parties. The phone is just way to smooth for any obstructions for me.
no scratches
