Can anybody port Android 8.1 Go for this device?

Why porting GO version if he can handle default version?

Have you actually taken an in-depth look at all the other newer flagship devices ?
Cause I did and now I see that they ALL are crap, the development of the bleeding edge chipsets goes clearly towards the wrong direction ...
There are only few (mid range, that is) devices that offer a huge battery, great screen and nice battery runtime & performance at that,
in fact ALL the flagship devices are not worth their price

Rumor: Android 3.0 Gingerbread

* Android 3.0 Gingerbread will be released in mid- October (around 15 -16th), 2010. First handsets shipping in November/December – for the Holiday Season.
* Minimum hardware requirements for Android 3.0 devices are: 1GHZ CPU, 512MB or RAM, displays from 3.5" and higher. We all of course heard that Android handsets with 2GHz CPU's are coming.
* New 1280×760 resolution available for the devices with displays of 4" and higher
* Completely revamped user interface. If you want to get a feeling of what Android 3.0 Gingerbread UX is like, check out the Gallery App on Nexus One. The same overall feel, light animated transitions, etc. Natively, through all the UI.
* Android's split into 2 branches becomes official. 3.0 for top of the line/high end devices. Cheap, low-end mass market handsets will keep Android 2.1/2.2
Hmm.. Seems like all the phones that are getting Android 2.2 now, will also get 3.0. Even if not officially, some XDA ROMs will make it possible.
I'm quite interested in all of this.

i'm intrigued
I was already aware of the plans to scrape the manufacturers UI's will make for faster upgrading for the latest OS Version
hmm I am still on the verge for a decision. Should I get a nexus one right now or wait another 2-3 months until the new handsets are released. I just can't decide

This actually really seems a bit of a bad idea to me. As this is what makes each manufactures phone unique. Else its just gonna be a hardware race. Might as well make it like the iPhone OS then.

At the rate of development in the mobile market, Id wait until the newer hardware is out, I.E 2GHz or Dual processors, Depending on how long that takes of course, And nobody wants to wait on getting a phone encase newer tech comes out the following week, It is rather disappointing when that happens.

I got my HTC Desire for the hardware specs and not the UI which it was bundled with, It's nice but if I could have had the desire with the stock android I would have bought it like that!
I agree that this is a really bad time to buy a handset. 1Ghz (though in a 45 nm architecture) has been here for a relatively long time and it's obvious the newer processors are coming. Same for 800x480 (or 854x480).
More importantly, 3.0 means not being left in the dark as to whether or not your phone is ever going to get a firmware update.

You say 1GHz has been out for a really long time, But the desire was the first handset, atleast over here to get it with that being out in February, but actually finding somewhere selling it was difficult until the carriers had a hold of them really

I'm tired of Sense UI being uninstallable, monolithic and only available on HTC phones. If they want to do that ****, it should be modular, portable, and optional.

I don't know if i'd want a 2ghz device until the battery tech gets better. As it is, I have to carry an extra battery around with my n1. So I could imagine what a 2ghz device with a 1400mah or 1600mah battery would look like...

[Q] Where's Nokia

Nokia is probably the most anticipated OEM with WP7 devices this fall, and their one device has been leaked already. But there is supposed to be another phone, which is rumored to be the real flagship. Just wondering, where are they now?
It's coming with Mango HAHAHAHA
Nokia is coming Q4 so that's a wide margin. Plus they're going to release their device(s) in one country at a time so don't hold your breath.
We should see a Nokia device in some parts of the world (Europe most likely) by the end of the year, they won't be widely available until 2012.
As far as a flagship phone is concerned, I wouldn't expect a true flagship until sometime mid-late next year. The current limitations of the WP7 platform kind of prevent us from getting anything better than HTC's Titan or Samsung's Focus S.

Storage capacity aside, do we really need more than that?
So from above posts we see another delay in WP7's fight for regaining any sensible position.

[Q] Android ICS port to Samsung Focus S ??

Hello XDA Dev,
I have been searching about Android ICS port to Samsung Focus S (windows phone ) ? but could not find any info anywhere in google...
Is anyone aware of any projects/developers working on it ?
Thank you for your advise..
so? why do you buy a windows phone?
Well one project could be .... sell your focus buy an android ICS phone.
We don't even have an unlocked bootloader to install custom WP7 ROMs on the Focus S yet (it'll come, but it's not available yet). Porting Android to WP7 hardware won't happen anytime very soon, and not to the Focus S specificlaly until we have a lot more access to its bootloader and such.

Didn't buy it - Thanks to Microsoft ! MS gave it for free could not refuse an excellent hardware...but my personal opinion; Windows Phone is not close to where it should be compared to Android or IOS...

Tried...doesn't even sell for $250 on CL ...I think Samsung Focus S is a beautiful piece of hardware; looking nicer than any other phone - no buyers at $250 for 1 week @ CL ?
Just don't want to give it away - Android Port would convert Focus S to Galaxy SII - Microsoft give away 1000s of these phones for Free... I believe there is a big crowd out there who would be happy with dual-boot...
I wish I had the skills to port but don't...
Also; Android has been ported to almost all the devices - surprised me not to Focus S...

Just a quick checkup, do you know of any development for an unlocked bl on the focus S? IMHO it is still the best WP, but it seems neglected compared to others...

I agree that it is the most elegant and best WP, too... I don't know if it is me - tried to use it for a day again - I just can't... browser IE is horrible (doesn't resize ) - There are great feedback and reviews about WP but I just can't like it ( perhaps it is just me ? ) yes - it is fast and Samsung Focus S hardware makes it even more attractive with the amazing screen... but noway to use it on daily base for me...Hope; somebody comes with the Android port soon.
If it won't sell for $250, then lower the price.

Galaxy S2 is selling $350 or over used - my brand new Samsung Focus S does not sell it for $200 on Craigslist... So this is how much people like Windows OS
You're trolling with the wrong crowd, homie.
Galaxy SII is made of newer, more expensive to license parts for one. Also Samsung Focus S's were free for a while so their value is obviously lowered. Obvious Troll is obvious.
i am with the op on this. i got my focus flash by trading a pair of lg tone plus headset.
I want $300 and people want it for only $175 or so. I would love to have android and all my apps like hulu!
People wont even trade or want me to give them money.. i even tried to trade for a iphone 3gs and they wanted me to give them money. I had to explain that they focus flash has a 3.7 screen vs 3.5 screen, 480x800 screen on focus flash, super amoled screen, more then double the cpu speed, double the system ram.... and that i wanted atleast $100 from him... since my phone has better specs....
Sometimes we just take a phone because it is gotten for free and have no other recourse....
Thread was dead and should have stayed that way honestly Closing this one now.

How is developing support?

So how many be in the future for a new phone soon(ish) and was wondering how dev support fairs on the Sony devices. At a cursory glance everything seems pretty solid but that isn't really much of an indication of every day usage or how friendly development for a device is.

Usually Support for Sony Flagships is pretty good, can be used as a daily driver. I think for Z3 (not dual variant) you would not regret buying the phone. However sony is very slow to update its phones but flagships support is good.

Welp. I'm all on the Z3 train now! I don't mind being somewhat slow as there are times it feels like even nexus devices take forever to get updates if you aren't on the absolute newest device.

Glad to hear that you like Z3 but I will disagree with your Nexus updates being slow. Nexus are the devices which bring the latest android version andvery quickly updated. If you are talking a about HTC Nexus 9, I'll blame tegra more because how they are with their device blobs and support. This is what usually causes delay. Snapdragon Nexus were updated pretty quickly. Of course LTE versions are a bit slow.

Why don't many of the OP7Pro-ROMs run on the non-Pro OP7?

Hi guys,
I'm a new owner of a OP7 in the non-Pro edition and I'm looking for how I can make it even work better - using a custom ROM.
First I was a bit disappointed that there are so few custom ROMs in the OP7-forum, but then I found out that some of ROMs over here will also work with my phone.
As I remember that the "hard-specs" are the same for both phones (instead of the camera and the display) I ask myself, why some of these ROMs will only work on the OP7Pro?
Shouldn't they run on both versions?
What is the main reason that I couldn't use the PE-ROM for example? This is really sad as I like this ROM a lot
Best regards and thanks to all devs for their good work!
Some of the specs may be similar but they are totally different phones. The OP7 is basically a OP6T with a upgraded processor not a downgraded OP7 Pro.
Thanks for your reply.
Does this mean, that OP6T-ROMs might run on the OP7? Maybe with a specific Kernel for the OP7?
Never buy the lower model if you want good support. I allways go for the highest model, and theres a reason!
Well, for Xiaomi this wasn't the fact, unfortunately. I just sold my Mi 9 because the lack of frequent updates und bugfixes for their flagship.

Because devs didn't buy the 5G model.
But the model they're selling the **** out of and marketing 5g yet don't update it as often as 4g. To date no room supports 5g because of the difference in modems ??*

The non pro is far closer to the pro than 6t. Same processor, same GPU, same memory. The only major difference is the screen and pop out front camera. In theory Devs could make unified ROMs for both like they do with twrp. Have to say I'm very surprised about the lack of devs on the non pro, especially as it's 90% the same hardware wise. Arguably it's more in the spirit of xda and oneplus. Can only assume the main reason is because it's not available in the USA . I'm not the only person who swapped out the pro for non, as the size was more manageable and didn't have to suffer with the screen accidental touches as it curves round the body of the phone.

OnePlus doesn't have a unified ROM so there must be more to it then effort. My guess that the board layout and some of the other chips and sensors make the differences quite large. If processor, gpu and ram were the controlling factors then ROMs could cross brands, but drivers are usually very different between phones, even with similar specs.
