[Q] Android ICS port to Samsung Focus S ?? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA Dev,
I have been searching about Android ICS port to Samsung Focus S (windows phone ) ? but could not find any info anywhere in google...
Is anyone aware of any projects/developers working on it ?
Thank you for your advise..

so? why do you buy a windows phone?

Well one project could be .... sell your focus buy an android ICS phone.

We don't even have an unlocked bootloader to install custom WP7 ROMs on the Focus S yet (it'll come, but it's not available yet). Porting Android to WP7 hardware won't happen anytime very soon, and not to the Focus S specificlaly until we have a lot more access to its bootloader and such.

Didn't buy it - Thanks to Microsoft ! MS gave it for free could not refuse an excellent hardware...but my personal opinion; Windows Phone is not close to where it should be compared to Android or IOS...

Tried...doesn't even sell for $250 on CL ...I think Samsung Focus S is a beautiful piece of hardware; looking nicer than any other phone - no buyers at $250 for 1 week @ CL ?
Just don't want to give it away - Android Port would convert Focus S to Galaxy SII - Microsoft give away 1000s of these phones for Free... I believe there is a big crowd out there who would be happy with dual-boot...
I wish I had the skills to port but don't...
Also; Android has been ported to almost all the devices - surprised me not to Focus S...

Just a quick checkup, do you know of any development for an unlocked bl on the focus S? IMHO it is still the best WP, but it seems neglected compared to others...

I agree that it is the most elegant and best WP, too... I don't know if it is me - tried to use it for a day again - I just can't... browser IE is horrible (doesn't resize ) - There are great feedback and reviews about WP but I just can't like it ( perhaps it is just me ? ) yes - it is fast and Samsung Focus S hardware makes it even more attractive with the amazing screen... but noway to use it on daily base for me...Hope; somebody comes with the Android port soon.

If it won't sell for $250, then lower the price.

Never happen. Even if you donated enough to buy 10 phones. Just get a used Galaxy S2.

Galaxy S2 is selling $350 or over used - my brand new Samsung Focus S does not sell it for $200 on Craigslist... So this is how much people like Windows OS

You're trolling with the wrong crowd, homie.

Galaxy SII is made of newer, more expensive to license parts for one. Also Samsung Focus S's were free for a while so their value is obviously lowered. Obvious Troll is obvious.

i am with the op on this. i got my focus flash by trading a pair of lg tone plus headset.
I want $300 and people want it for only $175 or so. I would love to have android and all my apps like hulu!
People wont even trade or want me to give them money.. i even tried to trade for a iphone 3gs and they wanted me to give them money. I had to explain that they focus flash has a 3.7 screen vs 3.5 screen, 480x800 screen on focus flash, super amoled screen, more then double the cpu speed, double the system ram.... and that i wanted atleast $100 from him... since my phone has better specs....
Sometimes we just take a phone because it is gotten for free and have no other recourse....

Thread was dead and should have stayed that way honestly Closing this one now.

samsung wave instead of galaxy s?

Hi all,
I want to use android, but the wave has camera flash and the same hardware as the galaxy s. Will it be possible to port android to wave easily? And is it likely that someone will do that in the future, since I can't do it myself?
Thanks in advance
anyone can help?
I do not think android will be ported to Wave.
damnd
i too am curious if ther are any devs out there who might want to droid the wave.
gotta say, i did look at the s8500 (wave) and hardware specs totally confirm: i want it.
but i refuse bada. I want android.
Yes, the galaxy s is the other choice with nearly the same hardware... but the price!!
Samsung galaxy s: 499€
Samsung Wave : 305€
that is nearly 200€ extra for a phone with the same specs, no cam light and android.
i kinda refuse to pay that.
sorry samsung, you loose.
(ps: with 10% of the money saved on the wave we could maybe get a dev to do this? )
Me also
I would pay 10% of the money I saved, the galaxy s is to big

is it pessimism or arrogance that makes you say that?
ehw, doesn't matter to me anyways.
considering i'm _not_ the only one who'd be ready to give a little cash for a port, there might very well be more than 20€ in it.
But as most of the people in this forum do this stuff for free, why the hell would 20€ and some definite fame (and love by me) not encourage someone to do it?
Aaaand who sais it will take 50+hrs? that is definitely plain pessimistic!
i dont mean to hurt any feelings or anything, but you really dont see any "android ports" that actually work... and if i hear someone use the word droid one more time without making referance to 1 of the 3 android phones verizon offers, im going to shoot myself.. back on topic though, andoid isnt about making it work were it shouldnt. its about making it work earlier than sprint verizon htc motorola etc etc want it working. ;]

umad?
'droid (yeah, i did it, please go ahead ) is an open source system pretty closely related to linux/unix afaik (might be wrong there, but what i seen from filestructure etc...)
sooo why do people install linux/unix on their coffeemaker, washing machine or mobile phone?
because they can!
...but if i'm wrong about the purpose of android related discussions on xda-devs and you Sir are correct about just beeing ahead of the game of vendors, i sincierly apologize and will go buy an iphone now. -.-
not.
Samsung Wave with Android
Hi Folks,
In a good month time I´m also in the line with a new phone.
I´m also currently in love with the Hardware and Size of the Samsung Wave but personaly don´t like the current SW status of Bada.
So if there is someone out there willing to port Android to it I´m also willing to sponsor my 10% as zerthrymr.
I believe there are quite a few people out there that might join so the programmer should break even soon with the time spend.

Those are just emulations. It isn't really Android running on the device.
Bada can do themes! I think the platform is good enough to code some cool theme for it. Anyways, i have a wave now and i didn't pay a single cent for it. Samsung just gave it to meee
Hi all!
I would like to join to sponsoring desire of porting Android to Samsung wave.
Very very like specification of this device
Just get a Galaxy S or something, instead of wasting your time trying to port an OS.
Dude not everyone likes the Galaxy S and the Wave has a one of a kind look. Its just posting to a forum, so I don't see much time being wasted. Samsung or HTC or whoever will come out with something new in a few months anyways so we don't have to settle for the Galaxy S, but in the meantime it doesn't hurt to ask for possible options for the only IMHO non-ugly smartphone.
ive got a galaxy and would even put 20 bucks on the porting android wave.
Count me in too! I will also donate to the creation of porting Android to the Samsung Wave.
i'll donate to have android on wave
Well looks like this aint gonna happen, which sucks. Anyone want to buy a cheap Samsung Wave? I'm going to go get a HTC Evo!
Hello Guys...
Just got the Samsung Wave - and I must say what a great little phone it is - shame about some of the software (like the customisation that local phone providers have done - really slows the phone down - even to the pointof crashing it because their applications are not stable - Take note T-mobile in the UK).
The Bada system is not that bad - still in its beginings - but it is an Open system running on a Linux kernal - and its on par with Android (ok not as popular), but still good.
Since both the Galaxy S and Wave are running the same hardware- it should be possible to flash the Wave with the Android firmware designed for the Galaxy. I have not delved inot this much -so any comments from experienced developers would be welcomed - but to be honest I don;t see a problem with loading the Galaxy S firmware onto the Wave.

Dell streak is tooooooooo big, N900 is tooo old (and a dying os), Leo is the best of your options. But, maybe you are considering other phones like the desire or Nexus One maybe????
Get the Samsung Vibrant(unless u care about front facing camera and flash get EVO). Galaxy S series is the smoothest Android phone in the market.

Nah, the i9000 is Samsung, remember the others???? I just don't think I'm ready to trust samsung with phones yet, plus the design looks tacky to me. I also hear bad things about the software and limits to custom ROMS....
i am not really intrested in samsung phones tbh (I don't like there visual appearance)
I also don't like the desires look.
And the nexus one is to expensive as i can get these devices for quite a bit cheaper.
less talk, more HD2. $250 on CL right now. If the explosion in Android development recently hasn't proven to you, people who matter love this phone. I haven't seen any phone get this much Android love so fast. Hell some native android phones don't get this much android love. The people we have working on the HD2 are amazing. They went from won't even boot to semi stable in like a week. There doing stuff people predicted 6 months to complete overnight. I'm very excited for the HD2 at the moment and see it living on for many years since all the phones from here out will be new gen locked down iphoney OS's. So HD2 may really be the last of the mohicans.

Facebook Phone!

Who is getting the ChaCha?
The form factor makes me so interested. But I know they're gonna ruin it by putting it on 2 year contract and pricing it awfully without the contract.
That keyboard reminds me of the HTC Snap!
Ugly. As. S#!t.
And what's with that fakebook button? For the love of bloody albatros...

don't care if it's facebook phone, every phone can run facebook... i've been waiting for candy bar qwerty android phone for many years already!
Glad to see there was actually some innovation happening. I think these 'gimmicks?' were the star of HTC's MWC show, and at CTIA is coming the superphone everyone expected. I love the design of the ChaCha, i't's just so different from all the other phones. Keyboard looks great too. I hope the screen has a good resolution.
The form factor is pretty cool, I'd get it if I got the chance to.
I like the form factor with the keyboard, let's hope it's also powerful enough CPU-wise, I found the Acer QWERTY Android phones too slow to work with.

same concern here, i guess you are using e130... well i also have one, just wondering why it looks NOT so slow in youtube video!
If it's anywhere close to the price tag on desire z... then you should have no doubt what to pick.
I guess most people here on XDA care for the QWERTY physical keyboard on a candy bar form factor, which, sadly, is still very rare in Android world. As far as I know, there are only 4 phones launched or to be launched: Motorola Droid Pro, HTC Chacha, Samsung Galaxy Pro and Spriiing Smile (http://www.spriiing.com), all of which are inferior to full touch screen super phones, either in CPU, Memory or Screen specs... Hoping that those big guys will introduce more compelling Candy Qwerty phones.
I came from Blackberries before getting into Android, I once owned the Charm but chucked it quickly due to its massive bugginess and Motorola's sucktacular lack of support, so this device (and perhaps the Samsung Galaxy Pro) has me interested. Only thing is if they'd eliminate that Facebook button for the North America version, or perhaps it can be binded to a custom shortcut, I don't use FB nor care about it.

strongly disagree, xda members are exactly the type of people that know better then to buy a hardware qwerty. why you'd want a slower and smaller keyboard is beyond me.

There are different users and different opinions. I my self, use right now a Nokia E72 after i played with a htc Desire. I love the android functions and the OS in general but i hate touchscreens. This is why i use E72. I don't like Blackberry OS and i waited for a long time to see an android phone like ChaCha. I am sure that people who will buy this phone will use the qwerty feature and will love the android OS. If they want hy res display's and dual procesors they will head out for toucscreens like galaxy S II or something else.
still waiting... blackberry 9900 also on the way... i hope somebody resign from google and join blackberry as CEO (I assume you all knew what's happening in nokia now)

Yes the screen resolution on the Samsung Galaxy Pro is awful to look at. Spoils an otherwise reasonable qwerty phone.
Also if you use it as a wifi hotspot the signal for me was significantly weaker and unstable compared to my dell streak.
The chacha looks interesting but the whole facebook integration puts me off. I just can't stand facebook.

Get DVP or Wait For New Mango Devices?

I really love the DVP form factor and I am getting tired of my Samsung Vibrant. Should I wait for a Mango device before getting the DVP? When will we get to see some of the new Mango devices? Will they have front facing cameras? I heard about a windows phone 7 device similiar to the galaxy sII coming soon, is there any truth to that? Thanks for the help.
No by the looks of the new phones that were leaked. I don't think that they will have no front facing cameras. I think WP7 is more focused on there OS than building a phone that is mainly focused on Skype. They might have bought them out but the OS is the most important to them right now. They have to catch up because they started so late. I would say go ahead and get u a WP7 device because all users will be able to get mango. As far as mango goes, they will be updating that constantly because they want the new version to succeed and they will follow up of whatever version they have next. Personally I think that they will keep all of the users updated to the latest versions of the OS. Windows phone will prevail. Rock on Microsoft!!!!!!!!!
Sent from my HD7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
We won't know the 1/2 of whats going to be released phone wise with Mango until we get a lot closer. I would almost guarantee at least one flagship from one of the OEM's will have a FFC. And they will probably (at least a good handful of them) be quite a bit more powerful than the initial release phones, so something like the Galaxy SII from Samsung is not out of the question. Mango is going to make this a pretty feature rich phone, and this is when they will really start pushing things (kind of like Android with the OG Droid).
I'd just hang on the the vibrant until then, or buy a used DVP and sell the vibrant till then.
Buy the DVP now...
Yeah I am thinking of buying the DVP on contract (I bought my vibrant off contract, and the DVP 8GB is only 80 bucks now ) and just selling it on ebay when the mango devices start coming. Hopefully dell will update the Venue Pro later and add a front facing camera and other cool stuff.
Do yourself a HUGE favour, read the dvp forum before buying this lemon: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=799. Discussions are now about how we can get dell to take ownership of the issues they seem to want to sweep under the carpet, multiple returns of devices only to get the same faults with replacement ones. You are far, far better off staying with what you have or going with another WP7 device. Really.
If its only 80$ and off contract, I'd hit it !

If any more convincing is needed, read Dell's forums and see how they are ignoring the problems. You may be lucky but if you are not do not expect any support in any form from Dell. Also consider they were not among the OEM's listed at the Mango event, there hasnt been official word on whether Dell is definitely going to support Mango. JUST DONT DO IT!!! http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/mobile-devices/f/3824.aspx

A friendly advise: Stay away from the Venue Pro. It has serious stability issues and routinely crashes. New Mango devices will likely launch in the month of October/November time-frame. Almost nothing is known about the new devices so we have no if there's front facing camera.
I am sure there'll be a Windows Phone from Samsung that has similar specification to the Samsung Galaxy S II.

Oh the eternal discussion on locked bootloader...
I do really own my device, physical and software wise, luckily for me I had it unlocked for free but had I not had the chance to be one of the 200 people that got it from the test the "shady dude" here in XDA, I would definitely pay the $5 to grab it!
There's not much development for this device, in my own humble opinion, because this is a fairly new brand(HMD), resurfacing from an era before the smartphones of today(Nokia/Symbian), NOT just because of the factory locked bootloader!
Btw, you can get similar devices for a lot less money with unlocked everything!
There's a way to do it, it's up to you only to decide what's worth your coins!

@grimyhr I think you didn't get my point at all..
Fyi I had all these Nokia phones:
Older Technology:
2160 (TDMA, first Nokia I got)
6120 (TDMA) and 6180 (CDMA)
6225i (CDMA)
GSM Dumbphones:
1100 (First phone with a flashlight!)
Asha 202
GSM Symbian:
3210 (first GSM handset)
6600 (first Symbian I had back in the day)
6800 (hated that split keyboard)
5200 xpress music
Practical GSM Smartphones:
E62 and E61i (both still in use as SIP phones for their wifi and great battery stand-by time)
N97 (Still in use today as an in-car Bluetooth player(32gb internal+ 32gb on SDcard :silly: ) and NDrive when Waze on Android goes haywire w/o data connection)
N810 Internet Tablet (still in use as the media/streaming player paired to a Bluetooth speaker for BBQ and it is the only Maemo device I ever used)
All of that trouble I had compiling that list may show how I appreciate Nokia's phones and that was a dive into the past!
Nowadays people don't know how cumbersome was to handle and install apps and ringtones (lol) on their phones, but since then it all got easier (big thanks to XDA Developers!)
I meant to say that HMD/Nokia is a new brand on Android Phones. We all know how awesome Symbian was but the Nokia/Windows Mobile phones tossed all that into the trash in my opinion (Sorry WinMo supporters). We know Nokia/WinMo had great camera/media capabilities and awesome Nokia build strength but they were definitely not good app-wise.
As @kosmatyj noted, there is a small base of owners with the new HMD/Nokia brand devices and even less with their devices unlocked. That may change when the manufacturer releases their official way to unlock our phones or when someone releases a tool or tutorial in DIY fashion (check this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57752632&postcount=1). While neither of those things immediately solve our problem, the last resort is just a $5 bill.
Regarding your question over similar devices, I meant similar in processing power, not the exact type of CPU. I have the UMIDIGI Z Pro that has a ****ty stock rom, but with root and xposed I have it exactly for what I need at 1/3 of the price I've paid on my Nokia 8 TA-1004 in my country.

Paying or not paying, you will never know if its reliable. When it is a method and open here on xda there would be respect and also enough users for donations.
But it isn't.
Probably the manufacturer has something to hide or there is a leak of info howto unlock. That is also unreliable.
No Nokia for me....

Probably they are hiding something, like tracking what the user does on his device. Twice after the activation of the phone I got a popup asking questions, no detectable (at the time) app related.
Definitely there is leaked info on ways to unlock! People are making money of it
