Hey guys I use a nexus 5x and many people told me that my phone is extremely suited for custom ROMS and it will improve my experience.
1) So I was wondering as to how to flash a custom rom.
2) And my most important question is do I need to root my device to flash a custom ROM and custom recovery or is unlocking bootloader enough.
3) Also if I unlock the bootloader but don't root the device what more can I do with my device.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

1.For flashing a custom rom bootloader must be unlocked and custom recovery is also required
2.this thing depends on you... You can even use a custom rom without root access.many roms doesn't give root access by default..but
3.root access depends upon rom... Many roms comes pre rooted and many doesn't...root access is not permanent...

Thanks buddy. Could you do me another favour and recommend a few non root ROMs which improves battery or gives high amount of customization options
Its my personal opinion you dont need to avoid root access... I am not a nexus 5x user so i cnat suggest a specifc rom..i used custom roms in op2 and op3t so according to that experience i will suggest you lineage, ressuruction remix, mokee, paranoid, dirty unicorn... Moke is battery efficient rom...

I am trying to avoid root because the last time I rooted my Galaxy s3 things were bad after a month. I started to get these apps on the device automatically that were vulgar and also had to deal with a few other problems. Even after I formatted the device , things did not change.

What would an official bootloader unlocking tool offer us if we already have the ability to flash custom ROMs onto the device?
we could flash custom kernels, which would make overclocking possible, or maybe other functionalities...

You can use nvlash. This gives more possibilities to unbrick.
And you can install roms without being root. Without root (and cwm) you cannot install custom rom.

this probably will not be the case actually, I forsee that they will just give fastboot access
Hi Guys,
Wanna see how many of you guys on the OPO is running purely stock or already installed custom recovery + root?
Thanks!
Still contemplating whether to install TWRP + root.

Whenever I get a new Android device or one of my family members does, I always(if possible of course) unlock the bootloader, install a custom recovery and root the phone. When you do it, right after you bought it, there isn't any chance that you lose data. Plus, it's super easy.
Just my take on this.
Custom ROMs are of course a possibility, but most of the time I test a whole bunch and choose my favorite.
Current setup is Multirom with SlimKat and crDroid. It's amazing!
soon as it got delivered i unlocked the bootloader and flashed twrp. installed slim.
First thing you should do (after charging to 100%) is unlock the bootloader, install TWRP, and make a backup of the stock ROM. Do that before you even switch it on.

For those who are here for installing a custom ROM using TWRP, there's another way you can install TWRP and thereafter ROMs without unlocking bootloader.
I don't know if it's a hack or a very dumb vulnerability in Yu Yuphoria (YU5010A) but you can actually install TWRP using Flashify app.
First, download Flashify app from Google Play and give it root access (I rooted my phone using KingRoot) and then download latest TWRP .img file and flash it using the app. And, BINGO!!! You've successfully installed TWRP on your Yuphoria 5010A without unlocking the bootloader.
I can assure you guys this is really working as I, myself, have tried it and installed a custom ROM.
Precautions: Make sure you allow "OEM Unlocking" checked in developer options. I've tried this on my Yu Yuphoria (YU 5010A) which was running on stock Android 5.1.1
Also, don't worry, installing TWRP won't erase anything from your phone. If you still have questions ask me!
What about installing custom rom after this??

What do you mean by that?
If you're asking whether or not you can flash a custom ROM, then yeah, you can flash a custom ROM.

I was trying to root my device, i unlocked bootloader, whenever i was trying to install TWR my device go through the recovery only, couldn't go through OS, i solved it by installing stock firmware via flashtool, I want to install recovery to install custom Rom, is there any suggestion for a good custom Rom ?
flashing TWRP does cause some issue in the boot partition of the phone if you try to flash it via fastboot .
But if you really want that recovery as well as your rom try this method hope this solves your problem

Personly i like Xkeita linage os 14.1 it is mostly stable but i dont mine having 60 fps video recording it is a good stable rom
Checked out realme's website and they state that unlocking and flashing roms does not void warranty but rooting the phone does.So what are the possibilities/things one can do with the phone while unlocking it but not rooting it.
Also is there a safe rooting method which doesnt leave traces after unrooting again? So that the device can be used in warranty.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
If you have Realme 5 Pro (not q) then you can still flash custom rom, recovery or basically anything with adb. It's just you won't be able to do root stuff on your phone but you'll need pc. Still you could flash custom kernel, rom, or ota update. Magisk is called systemless root for it does root your system without touching the system files so after uninstalling it and flashing stock rom realme service shouldn't ever be able to tell that your phone was ever rooted. I live in Hungary and my previous Xiaomi phone was installed with custom rom, kernel and Magisk root. Before taking it to Xiaomi service I did a clean flash, reverted everything to stock and warranty was still good to go. That'd be just an example. Don't know Realme how is with these stuff.

You're welcome. If indeed only root void warranty then you're free to flash to your linking almost everything via usb adb. Except for root ofc.
thank you again for the same.

After installing twrp via adb you can flash stuff from your sd card. Don't forget to always have a backup zip file of your stock rom in case something goes wrong. And don't forget to use backup in twrp for data partition sometimes when you feel you're about to do something risky that might flip your system's stability. I do that all the time ?*
Yep I will. Its a new phone so more of a reason to take precautions .

Magisk has an option to hide from those apps, I used it all the time with secure banking apps
If I unlock bootloader and flash TWRP, can this TWRP can be used as my stock recovery further for flashing zips(not custom ROMs)? Also will Bank apps work in this set up without any problems?
Yes, you can use TWRP to flash anything. Yes, bank apps will work as long as you have magisk installed.
