So far I've found two music players besides Google Music and Spotify that sync with Android Auto. They are RocketPlayer and JetAudio. I uploaded 5 gig of music to my phone in case I'm out of data range for Spotify. Spotify is my preference since the audio streaming bit rate is much better than itunes backups.
Shuttle works with AA. Edit: works with Automate not AA. Sorry for the confusion.

I'm running AA on my Pixel 2, when I loaded Shuttle it didn't show up in the AA music menu. Spotify, Rocket Player, Jet Audio, and TuneIn Radio all showed up but not Shuttle. Is there another version that is compatble with AA?

You are correct, Shuttle isn't working with AA. I was using it with Automate Car Dashboard on my last phone not AA.

@Matterhorn You can sort the playstore by apps that work with AA. Though I dont think it is a comprehensive list.

I've been trying to set up AA with the best apps etc. both Rocket Player and JetAuio are highly recommended and work with AA, but they each have their own issues. I'm sure they'll get the bugs ironed out in time. AA is relatively new.

I loaded both of those yesterday. The apps are pretty ugly. I don't think I'd use either of those. VLC for Android (beta) works with AA. It has a good layout and there are no adds either. The problem with VLC is it doesn't seem to work with Assistant. You can't say "play Elvis on VLC".

It seems like they all have their issues at the moment. I'm using Rocket Player now because the album art looks better in the AA app. I actually prefer to use Spotify Premium since I have an unlimited data plan, it streams at 320kps. My iTunes backup sounds terrible in comparison to Spotify Extreme quality. I use android assistant with Spotify all the time so I would miss that feature,

My favorite for local music is Sony Music. It takes a little work to get it installed and working though. First you have to find the app on XDA that has been altered to not check your build.prop for a sony device (there are several). I'm using the app from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony-themes-apps/app-xperia-app-stock-rom-t3263403
Then the problem is Android Auto will not work with a sideloaded app. To fix that you need ADB shell:
adb push Sonymusic.apk /sdcard/Download/Sonymusic.apk
adb shell pm install -i "com.android.vending" -r /sdcard/Download/Sonymusic.apk
adb shell rm /sdcard/Download/Sonymusic.apk
Skip the first command if its already on your phone. You need to use the phones package installer for this, so the apk needs to be on the phone somehow. Change the file paths and file names to suit your install.
This works with other sideloaded apps if you're into that sort of thing (Pandora, Spotify, etc) ahem
It's 2 min of work from a computer, but it's the best experience for me. I tried every Android Auto compatible music player I could find. Sony did it right IMO.

Would having a stereo that supports Android auto play my Spotify music over usb? Would i be a me to get a stereo that supports AOA 2 and also accomplish the same thing? Trying to find a better option than Bluetooth but my current stereo doesn't support Spotify over USB on Android.

It should. In mine, spotify over usb (through Android Auto) sounds noticeably better than spotify over bluetooth in the same car. When you connect to Android Auto, my oem stereo also makes a bluetooth connection to the phone which confused me. Apparently bluetooth is still used for the HFP (hands free protocol ie phone calls) between the phone and headunit. All A/V traffic is supposed to be handled via USB.
Not sure about AOA. I haven't used a stereo that I could get usb audio from android phone to headunit successfully. Too bad iPhones work great with lots of radios via Lightning...
One HQ option to consider is Astell&Kern's aptX HD BT receiver.
https://www.worldwidestereo.com/pro...le-bluetooth-amplifier-with-dac-4vb100-cmbl01
My car's head unit is decent Pioneer, but bt audio sucks. I used to use a wire from iphone, but that does not work well from Pixel 2. So I got one of these and plugged it in to aux input. Way better sound quality than iphone wire ever delivered, despite it being BT. (Same goes for with headphones also.) If you are not familiar with them, A&K makes audiophile-quality sound gear.
Android allows you to have two BT connections at the same time. So I have one direct to car stereo for phone calls, and separate one for audio.
I use the Spotify app from phone to control it. (Tidal sounds a little better, but it's app is not nearly as car-friendly as Spotify, which lets you change songs without looking.)
Is it possible to modify any .apk to work to work with AA, I'm disappointed because I wanted to go give it a try after hearing good things, but If I can't use the player I desire it's kind of silly. I can handle trading in waze, but I'd like to find a way to get the n7player.apk working with it.

Thanks for this ... been playing with Sony Music for the past few days and you're right about how good it is. One question, I installed the release version using your instructions and now want to update to the beta. Is it the same set of instructions? Or (because I'm at work) is there a way to update without using ADB?

Cool man. Yea you will have to use adb for the beta as well. Assuming the beta contains android auto (I would think it does) everything should work.
The whole point of installing it this way is to fool your phone into thinking the app was installed from the play store (com.android.vending). Installing any other way will make it a sideloaded app, removing Android Auto capability.
If you have any trouble installing, uninstall the original Sony Music, then install the beta with the adb instructions.

Thanks ... what I thought (but was hoping wouldn't be the case ....).
I use Plex. It can play local or stream from your PC. And it can sync your PC music to your phone.
Since our phones support multiple Bluetooth codecs, it's possible to get decent sound through BT. It depends on your car's available codecs. My BMW supports AAC, so my Pixel 2 connects to my car with AAC. I just bought the i.tech H2 earbuds that supports Aptx-HD and LDAC. LDAC sounds amazing! When cars start using these new codecs, bye bye wires.

1stly id like to say android is such a brilliant step up from my old Nokia 5800/N95 but there are a few things I'm missing!
Being able to Bluetooth sync my music whenever in range of my pc was a godsend. It was just nice to have my phone show up in windows media player without any wires.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've tried web sharing lite which is brilliant but not as integrated as I'd like
Also, I recently bought the Sony Ericcson MW600 stereo bluetooth headset, its been brilliant for playing music on but ive only recieved one call while in use and the volume seemed to be none existant any clues as to whats going on there? It was such a pain to have to turn BT off and re-take the call on the phone.

I bought this last night (well, eventually, seems the Market's still being a bit screwy - it was hanging on Authorising Purchase...) and it's pretty excellent. Small free app install on Windows/OSX iTunes side, install app on handset, tell it which PC and which playlist to sync and, well, leave it alone. Works great, I'm impressed.
But im assuming I would have to use Itunes to gain any use?
great ;(
why not use one of those wifi file transfer programs?
i used afile and discovery to move photos and songs back and forth. doesn't 'sync', but still allows wireless transfer of songs.
I use TuneSync, the first sync is a little iffy (i had 10gbs of music to sync) but once you get passed that it works OK enough for me.

Has anyone been able to get track metadata information over bluetooth on their S3, stock or otherwise? I can control play/pause/forward/back, but am not getting track info in my car. Anyone else run into this issue?
I have read it may have something to do with AVRCP 1.3 support.
In my car it shows information for music stored locally on the phone but streaming Pandora doesn't share Song information, but I can control music still.

Which app are you using for local music playback?
Currently using S3 in a 2012 Ford with Sync. No issues with track info with either locally stored files, or Pandora as long as I use the mobile apps command in Sync. Has worked well with stock, and with current setup with the unofficial CM10 nightlies with KT747 kernel.

My phone shares meta data as long as I'm used local music or Google play. If I use Pandora it won't stream the meta data. Although my girlfriends iPhone (sorry) does transmit Pandora meta data.

Yeah. This head unit I ha e it my car is awesome, Kenwood ddx719, but it's tuned for iDevices. There is a Pandora app on the head unit that will control pa Dora completely, thumbs up/down songs etc, but is useless for Android. Meta data streams from Pandora on iPhone but not android. Also, my old phone didn't stream meta data from Pandora either so it's not just the S3.i think the meta data is on Pandora just not implementing it.

I have done tons of research and it seems that the S3 has AVRCP 1.3 for the native players but not for media streaming apps. AVRCP support needs to be implemented in a custom rom to be used. Apparently it was implemented in CM9 but not in CM10.

Cast To UPnP/DLNA for GMusic is a new app that let you stream your cloud Google Music uploaded by yourself and from the All Access subscription (including Radio) to any UPnP / DLNA device:
XBMC
DLNA TVs
PCs (WMP, foobar2000, ...)
WDTV Live
Xbox 360 (including when playing games)
PS3 (playback must be started from the PS3)
Sonos
Android (with BubbleUPnP)
various hifi gear from Denon, Pioneer, Onkyo
...many more devices!
Google Play listing
Youtube video streaming to Xbox 360 and XBMC
UPnP /DLNA devices appear as Chromecast devices that can be selected in the Google Play Music app for playback and control.
You heard it right: you use the Google Play Music app to play to mentionned devices.
If it doesn't work with your UPnP / DLNA device please send me a log file (to bubblesoftproducts at gmail.com), following these instructions:
IMPORTANT: in Google Play Music, make sure no device is connected (disconnect it if necessary with the cast icon). Then Swipe the Google Music Play app from the recent apps list (to force it to reload when it will be launched next)
launch Cast To UPnP/DLNA For GMusic
enable "logging to file" in Menu > About
IMPORTANT: Exit the app using menu > Exit
restart Cast To UPnP/DLNA For GMusic
start the Google Play Music app, select the problematic device, play something and trigger the problem
exit Cast To UPnP/DLNA For GMusic (menu > Exit)
connect your phone to your PC or MAC and mail me the file /Android/data/com.bubblesoft.android.upnpcast/log.txt found on the SD Card
OMG if this works, it will be awesome. Just installing now.

PS3: not remotelly controllable so does not qualify
Google TV: it won't show up magically if you do not install an UPnP AV renderer app on it
plex: probably like xbmc, require to enable it for remote control
WMC: If it is like WMP, probably need to enable it for remote control
Thanks for creating and making available your app and for fixing the 401 Unauthorised error so quickly. Prior to your app I'd been using an Airplay application, but your app is more what I had been looking for.
There's still another issue that causes Google Music to occasionally stop detecting my DLNA device. It is usually resolved by making your app active again, and does not require restarting of either apps, and typically occurs only between songs.

Nice app! This gives my Raspberry Pi _the_ feature I was missing! (Too bad my Chromecast is already on its way - well, one can't have too many toys, right?)
There's however one issue I came across: I bought the unlocker on my phone. However it seems I cannot get the software unlocked on my other phone and on my tablet. On all those devices (except my "1st" phone says that I should buy the unlocker. But even if I press the "buy" button, Google tells me that I already got that item (and does not even give me the option to pay again).
Could you, dear folks at Bubblesoft, implement an "unlock checker" routine?
Thanks!

On your other devices than you phone, make sure to download the app in Google Play using the Google Account that you used for the purchase (in Google Play : Settings > Account). You can revert the account once you've downloaded the app.
oooo, you are an arm twister. i have the bubble server paid for but this app has a seemless way of playing back things from the app itself.
You know what would really be cool if you could? if you have your bubble server be able to handle playbacks from other apps as well and play to the upnp capable players. of course also maybe including this seemless playback in bubble server would be cool too, but yeah.
Is it possible to create an app for movies or YouTube or other apps, too?

volume issue
App works great, a few hiccups here and there but not too often.
One bug I've noticed though is the volume selected doesn't seem to "hold" between songs. I'll turn it down to about 50% and when the next song begins it'll jump back up to 100% while the slider still remains at 50%.
Happens on both my Nexus 4 and 7 (2013) casting to my 360.

Believe it or not but this is a nasty WTF Xbox360 bug that resets volume to 100% between songs (this is the hardware reseting vol to 100%: from the app's POV, volume hasn't changed).
The app workarounds this bug, but it looks like it doesn't work for you. The workaround uses a non-scientific determined waiting time value between 2 commands that seems to work on most Xbox. I will increase it at little hoping that it will fix it on your Xbox.
Have had a few issues using this app but works great 90% of the time.
I'm currently experiencing a drop in connection between songs or when I skip a track. This only happens when I play though my Panasonic VT30.

Thank you for the respond. Yes i tried, but there isnt any other available option. Writing with my honor 6 so excuse some typos. Also my main language is not english.
Let me explain this better:
I use spotify with bluetooth to listen to music through my car stereo, which is pioneer mvh 360bt. Everything worked; i could see the song details etc in the stereo display screen and next or previous buttons worked with stereo buttons. Making it very easy to change a song while driving. Suddenly i could no longer see song details and buttons to change songs stopped working also. No idea what may cause it. I did not change or install anything suspicious, except updates on apps obviously. What i discovered is the built in music app, which started to show song details in stereo screen and took over spotify. Basicly the whole controlling is in the music app now. I tried to figure out how can i get spotify back as it used to be, no luck yet. I deleted all songs related to music app and so on. Now i can play songs through spotify, but i cant change songs with stereo buttons and the screen show no title or no name. I think the stereo and bluetooth still connects to music app while leaving spotify outside.
What i tried to do:
Reseted phone to factory settings
Tried two different apps: bluetooth connect and play app, autoaudio bluetooth help. These programs did not change anything.
Messed with phone and stereo settings..
I think i will also reset the stereo settings just to make sure.. But my girlfriends Sony xperia m2 aqua functions as it should, so the problem must be in my phone, not in stereo.
TLDR: How can i get rid off built in music app and make my spotify to function again with my "honor 6 - bluetooth - pioneer mvh 360bt" so i can change songs with stereo buttons and see the song in stereo display screen?
Spotify said that they cant help me with the issue so i hope i could get some help here.

Hi,
Yes. I tried to install Spotify again, many times. I also tried to install previous versions of spotify with no luck. Though might be a problem that I didn't possibly delete "old files" causing the issue still be there.
The music software, I have absolutely no idea what is it and how can I find previous updates. The software is called "Musiikki", which is "Music" in englishand the version number is v7.0.21.
Btw, I found more threads about similar issue with other Honor 6 users, but also some other phone models having them. Seems like they appeared after installing newest or second newest version of Spotify, but it's weird that I can't even fix the issue anymore by reinstalling older version of Spotify.
What really makes me think is this place where I can change default music application. I can only see there this music software and google play music, but Spotify will not be there, not even with older version.
Tomorrow I am going to reset my phone still one more time and install Spotify version where everything worked. Meanwhile I will also reset my car stereo. If I can't get this to work, I am out of ideas..
Thanks in advance.

you're welcome
if u want to uninstall the Music app you have to do it from Hi Suite from a PC, at least for H60 L02 phone version.
Hi everyone!
I wanted to check in and see if anyone knows that it may be possible to get Play Music on our speaker sporting watches at least with All Access streaming as now we have all the tools to do so including wifi and speaker support and would love to be able to stop having to sync specific albums to the storage all the time to use it. This would be a pretty popular app and I would definitely pay for one like this.
Anyone else think they would enjoy a mod or app like this to play music. I think spotify can do this on the watch but I don't have a subscription to spotify and wanna stick with my google play music. :highfive:
I am currently on a Huawei Watch.
So, a quick off the cuff maybe may be in order...
Here is why...
First, those of us without speakers may not miss out on this either what with full Bluetooth support already here. ...
Second, we can already install apps using adb. We can also install those appsm to specific folders. This is easier with watches thatmplkug in through USB, but all wear watches support adb so installing the Google software is possible. We can probably install play music directly.
Third, though our watches do not all have native direct wifi support, many do, and I am guessing it is going to be supported by the 1.4 OS. However, even if it is not, if you install an app in your /system folder, it can access wifi directly as it needs.
Fourth, and here is where the good news ends... Google play music is not a stand alone app. It relies on Google play services, and they are to say the least, complicated. We have them on the watch to communicate to the phone, but not the full version. So, I have no idea how well the app will install, let alone work. Likewise, Google only allows developers to access certain libraries and play music has not released any (to my knowledge) for Wear other than the typical hooks for controlling your music.
So, all of this adds up to a maybe...
