I'm a new and proud owner of 2 Ph-1s, both purchased from Sprint.
While I was browsing XDA i noticed that there are two specific variants of the phone one SPRINT and the other OPENUS.
I know that one of the difference between the two variants is that Sprint is able to lock and unlock the SPRINT variant at will.
(I got the phone unlocked by paying off the lease for it and buying it out. I checked the IMEI and it was all green and good. After a few days, the IMEI was flagged as not met financial responsibility)
Do we know if there are any other specific differences between the two variants, and if there are none, can the bootloader from OPENUS be flashed on the SPRINT variant to remove any connection to Sprint.
I was looking at: https://www.essential.com/developer/current-builds
There are Kernel and Wifi drivers. I see that there are separate ones for Sprint and telus and one for all other carriers.
Would flashing the latest build for OPENUS variant also flash the kernel and wifi drivers?
Sprint variant is two updates behind. Try flashing the latest nougat here.

I did a bit more digging around the Phone apps/system apps and found the following and would want to know if folks with the OPENUS variant (non Sprint) have the same things on their phone:
Settings>Apps>Configure apps>Opening links>Carrier Hub (Open deviceservices.sprint.com)
Settings>Apps>...>Show System
[no name] 112 KB version sprint_05.07.00.02
running
Code:
adb shell pm list packages -f -s
to show all system packages shows the following sprint associated packages:
package:/system/app/SprintHiddenMenu/SprintHiddenMenu.apk=com.ts.android.hiddenmenu
package:/system/priv-app/MobileInstaller/MobileInstaller.apk=com.sprint.ce.updater
package:/system/priv-app/SMF/SMF.apk=com.sprint.ms.smf.services

Thanks for checking friend, I appreciate it.
Regarding ADB, you dont need to be rooted to run this command, just make sure the phone has Deve settings enabled, and enable USB Debugging. Then connect your PC to the phone and use minimal adb and fastboot to run the command. You can do lots of other stuff to this way keeping your phone non-rooted and with locked bootloader.
When I look at the variant for my PH-1 (which came from Sprint, is UICC unlocked, and works great with my t-mobile SIM) it doesn't show Variant - Sprint or Variant - OPENUS. Instead, it just shows Variant - .
It doesn't list anything after Variant.
Does anyone know if there is a way to overwrite both of the A/B partitions? I think the sprint variant is reloading something from the install/backup partition that keeps the phone sim locked even if you flash the openus variant.

So, we did the same thing as you. I purchased 2. The black one was unlocked out of the box. The white one isn't (yet). Both are paid off as of yesterday, they gladly took my money, but then didn't want to issue the unlock for the white one. I may just install the NMJ32F build, and see what happens.
Where did you look to check the IMEI unlock status? Swappa? I would be on the phone ripping Sprint a new ass if they are flagging my paid for device as "not met financial responsibility". I would blow them up on twitter, facebook, etc, until the problem has been rectified.
*UPDATE* I flashed NMJ32F and it works fine. Still locked to Sprint which I figured it would be. Otherwise, it has the latest November security patch now and should get all the other updates.
Hi, I am in Ireland and got a PH-1 which was locked by Sprint but i contacted them and they told me they have unlocked it for me and i can use it in Ireland but i am actually not able to use it on any network here, it just says Invalid Sim every time i put the sim card in.

Invalid sim means that your phone is still locked to Sprint.
If your phone is unlocked then the UICC unlock will show this message:

If they have unlocked it, you still need to put a Sprint SIM in it and run the UICC unlock before you can put another SIM in it.

The way I understand it, you need to put a Sprint Sim in that has service activated on so it can connect to their Network to be unlocked. How you can do that overseas I'm not sure... You could buy service and have it sent to you, then you can connect through roaming. Sounds extremely tedious and expensive to do though...

so i couldnt take my gs5 with sprint to tmobile?
I think its the same case as the s4 where the 'SIM' only serves as a card for LTE and nothing else. Also sprint is CDMA and t mobile is gsm so I assume that the phones (hard- and software wise) are going to be a little different.

The S5 has GSM capability just like the S4 and the S3 before it. The S4 *can* be SIM unlocked for GSM carriers. I assume the same is possible for the S5, but who knows whether the same method can be applied.

No according to people about note 3 the imei has to be manually unlocked in sprint system then you can do the uicc unlock from phone ... I had to talk to international customer service to get my note 3 unlocked and you can only unlock one phone per calendar year ... none of the other unlock methods worked with note 3 .. it is said to be encrypted and stored in nv ram. .. the note 3 still has not been unlocked and it's been 6 months

I should have clarified. Officially, yes Sprint will "unlock" any of their devices that support GSM - IF you meet their requirements. But they still employ modem blocks that prohibit domestic connections, so the phone will only work internationally. The S4, m7, and some others can be domestic unlocked via software hackery.

But that still only gives you international access
I am working on a solution for this.
I have experience doing sim unlocking (I found the sim unlock method for the LG Optimus 3D).
I bought one of this phones to try to unlock it.
What I have found so far:
-The uicc unlock is preformed by Sprint OTA (over the air) by sending a network message to the phone to init the unlocking function.
-This message can be sent by generating a fake message and using a software DFS CDMA to comunicate to the device modem and generate the secuence.
-This was done to the Sprint Galaxy S4 but now Samsung implemented a signed encrypted package for the S5.
-By default, domestic networks (Tmobile and ATT) are locked even though sprint unlocks the uicc
-This can be overriden easily once we unlock the uicc
What I need to continue my search:
-a EFS and NVRAM Backup of a phone that had the uicc unlocked
-a App Log for the uicc unlocking state (a phone that is eligible for unlocking by sprint and activate the application log to monitor the unlocking process)
Any help would benefit the entire comunity.

Sounds great. I would suggest posting in the general S5 section, though I believe Sprint requires you to have it active for 90 days before they will unlock
The 90 day thing is a technical rule, but you can get them to do it earlier via the "back office"

Purchased a used D850 that was supposedly unlocked. Is there any way to verify other than trying other SIMS (which I don't have)? Picked up a code from an eBay seller and when I enter 2945#*850# each of the 5 menu items returns "Your phone is not yet personalized" with "Dismiss" as the only option.

Well there is your problem, You can't use the D850 on PagePlus/Verizon... Verizon is CDMA carrier not GSM. The only reason why Verizon uses sim cards is for LTE.
You'd only be able to use a VS985 or a LS985 on page plus.

I am aware of that.
I switched from PagePlus (Verizon) using the VS985 to Cricket (AT&T) using the D850 with the Cricket SIM. You then told me to insert a non-accepted SIM so I inserted the PagePlus (Verizon) SIM.

Ahh so you where just testing? Well using a Verizon system to test is not a good test. But wait your trying using a Cricket sim? A D850 does not have to he unlocked to work on Cricket, AT&T Go Phone, H20 and other AT&T mvnos. It just works.
If your trying to use a non AT&T/mvno sim then it would need to be unlocked like if you wanted to use T-Mobile.
Also if the phone is locked you CANT unlock it using a custom ROM, you have to flash it back to stock. But if your using it on Cricket the phone doesn't have to be unlocked.

Yep, it had Lollipop when I got it, so I tot'ed back to KK.
The seller of the unlock code's instructions indicate their code will work with the Cricket SIM or an "unapproved" SIM, so I restored stock KK and entered the 2945etc code and received the message that is the title of this thread.
Perhaps the phone is already unlocked, as the person from whom I bought it said it was. I don't know this to be true, so I'm trying to verify before travel.

Your phone is unlocked. If your phone was locked when you turn it on it will tell you. I'm not sure but that code I don't think has anything to do with unlocking lol. You never enter a code in the dailer. You always just enter your unlock code when you boot your phone.
Your phone is unlocked or you wouldn't be seeing the T-Mobile network.

I got unlocked code from AT&T but did not get the unlock screen when I boot the phone with other sim card. The unlock did not work when I get to the unlock screen by dialing a special code. I read the threads related to LG G5 from buyspry seller. Sadly I cannot revert the order I made on ebay I need to need few important things(to me) as I will be stuck with this Phone. I live in Bangladesh so I definitely cannot use it w/o SIM UNLOCKED.
I have known that If I upgrade or downgrade I will lose SIM UNLOCK.
Also I cannot root (till now) as it requires downgrade.
And I will be stuck with firmware it came in from the seller.
But still , Here are the things I really need to know :
1. If I compromise myself to use that firmware 20i_un (UNLOCKED) forever it comes from seller & do no modifications will the Phone be perfectly fine?
2. Does that awkward firmware gives or will give any OTA update? Cause if it gives and that accidentally gets installed I am screwed with a T-Mobile Locked device.
3. I will use my local GSM SIM , Will I be able to use Portable Hotspot with that ROM? (I couldn't, with my G2 At&t Unlocked stock At&t ROM)
4. Apart from any upgrade/downgrade(ROM flashing) is there any way I might lose UNLOCK???
Please guys, please do help me with these topics. I just recently damaged my LG G2 and lost a phone Xiaomi MI 4 (Mugged) I really am screwed

4) Probably not, but it's still not clear how they achieved unlock via the ROM so who knows?

You lose unlock if you ever update or do anything to the ROM. Phone is garbage unless you're on Tmobile. Obviously you are going to want to update it eventually because it's assumed that LG will be issuing an official Oreo update.
I bought the device and reverted it to official firmware. With a few (lengthy) calls to Tmobile I eventually got them to white list my device for the Sim unlock app to work. I was first told that it was impossible for them to do because it wasn't a Tmobile device, meaning not purchased through tmobile (not sure how buyspry got them, maybe corporate wholesale or something).
I sent a bunch of photos to them showing the box and other tmobile documentation that came with the phone. They agreed to unlock it and after about a week's wait while tech support was working out the specifics, the app successfully unlocked it.
I am on tmobile but told them I preferred to have it unlocked if necessary for international travel.
So yeah, long story short if you're not on tmobile and have no way to get tmobile to officially unlock it return the device. Complain to eBay that the device had hacked firmware or whatever (which is 100% true) and they will let you return it.

Device unlock doesn't take a code. It checks with Tmobile database

so i requested an unlock from sprint but its still locked. not sure if sprint is just ****ing with me or if i have to be on the sprint firmware, because right now im on the Unlocked firmware.
Might possibly have to be on stock sprint, but if you had them unlock it, they issue a update to the phone, or at least thats how my s5 and s6 was done, and that was only for international not a US carrier unlock. It did take a few days before it was issued to the devices i had so give it another day or so and if its done done, then i'd contact sprint again and ask them to re-send it to your phone.
Keep in mind if its a international unlock, you still wont be able to use any other carriers sim domestically in the USA on the device as it will remain locked to sprint Again it took 2-3 days before my devices received the unlock from sprint.
If you flash the eng boot/unlock files i can unlock it remotely if sprint doesnt come through for you

Contact me via PM , let me know what build its currently on and the files, depending on what build you're on, are the S8 unlock files posted in this section already. Those may not work depending on what build revision you have on the phone currently. With those files, you should also be able to flash back to sprint's firmware via the guide posted in this section as well.
I've been busy lately but i'll help ya out as much as possible.. Again PM me with info and we can go from there.
I can help if you need help still? Pm me.

Hello fellas, I bought my TMobile Oneplus 7 pro on a payment plan yesterday. I already have it bootloader unlocked, rooted and twrp installed, volte works, Netflix works(480p). Running an international version OOS 9.5.11. My question is..... Since i already did all that, can I sim unlock it in the future, after 40 days, without having to revert back to stock tmobile?
As far as I know, you only have to wait 3 days to request a permanent sim unlock. @mobbdeep can do it for you with just the account holders last name and the phone number the OP7 Pro is currently on. You will need the T-Mobile "unlock" app so you can select "Permanent Unlock" in the app though, so you *may* need to temporarily reflash stock for that, but if you ask around, someone might be able to pull the apk from theirs for you to try on international.
Also out of curiosity, how well does T-Mobile service work on the international ROM? I've been thinking of converting mine and buying a dual sim tray since mine is unlocked.

If you're already on the international firmware and have stuff flashed, you will need to revert back to the stock T-Mobile firmware in order to truly unlock your SIM. If you try downloading the Device Unlock app via Play Store or APK, it will give an invalid network unlock reading. If you have a T-Mobile OnePlus 7 Pro, PM me your phone number and the last name of the account holder of your T-Mobile account and I can unlock your phone in seconds. You can then use the Device Unlock app to unlock your SIM then flash the international firmware if you'd like.. that is what I did myself.
Anyway, the international version firmware is good but there's no significant difference except it's used to unlock your device but not your SIM. I have SmurfKernel and xXx NoLimits ROM module installed and my device performance has increased greatly.
