Any thoughts on the charger.

Guys I went through about 4 different battery type chargers which ran of AA's and all sorts. All were useless and generated more heat than delivered juice to my Desire.
On the plus note I eventually found http://www.amazon.co.uk/Proporta-30423-USB-Turbocharger-3400/dp/B002DYGQI6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1276088348&sr=8-1
This is good enough to give me two full charges before having to charge the charger. Its a real neat piece of kit and works very well.

ordered, thanks.
I have a Just mobile Gum pro - it's 4400 mAh capacity and can charge pretty much anything that you can charge over usb. You recharge the pack over mini usb (mains or PC)
http://www.expansys.com/d.aspx?i=166301
I use it with my iPod touch, MiFi and my desire and it works great, outputs at 1000mA so the desire sees it as mains charging.
I haven't needed it much with the desire yet as I have mains chargers at home and and in the office but with my G1 I got 3 full charges of the phone before having to recharge the Gum pro. It's pretty compact too so not a problem to keep in my gadget bag.
Hope this helps
I got this one for a while now
http://www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05.php?t_id=4662&t_mode=des
and works great. Charges several devices and it has 3400mAh capacity, which is ~2.5 times full recharging Desire.

well it's only 1700mAh for 15Ł, while you can get double 3400mAh for 20Ł. hehe.

How much longer would your battery last with something like this? 350mAh doesn't sound like much... Of course it's pretty small, which is something.
This emergency charger! Is small, and should take an hour of call , no? and it's have small LED

thats the one i have, its the size that matters to me personally, its diddy.
true, but the larger capacity charger is much larger in size ie the size of the phone anyway, doesnt look pocketable to me.
i also cant envisage a time when i would need the larger capacity, ie i have a car charger, the stock charger and the emergency charger.

Hi, I just got the Proporta listed here:
http://www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05.php?t_id=4661&t_mode=des
and it is great, couldn't ask for anything more. Small, nice looking, seems solid and comes with all the tips you can think of.
I bought the Energizer XP4001:

After 3 or 4 recharging cycles I found out it charges my Desire fully only one and a half times, so I'm little bit disappointed. Is this normal? I thought it should recharge it at least 2 and a half times * 1400 mAh = 3500 mAh. The battery is 4000 mAh, so that shouldn't be a problem. Any suggestions besides returning it? I'll be travelling abroad soon and I'm not sure that if I purchase another battery it will come on time for my trip.

I see, but here in italy is quite difficult to find it in the little shop s in my country. I think I'm going to buy the second one due to the fact that is an universal charger and can be used with more than one thing.
Why would you need a external one? They seem very expensive?
I bought one of these 2 weeks ago for GBP23, although looking at it now, it costs GBP35

Don't think so, maybe you misread the specs - there are 2 outputs, 1A and 500mA (ie 1/2A), but the capacity is 5000mAh.
On the output side, I just connect it to the 1A port, since a) I don't know what the maximum draw of the DHD is and b) it will only draw what it needs, whether it is 500mA or 700mA
Hello all,
So I just bought a new charger (just a wall charger) and now when I plug my TB in, the screen does not respond to anything! I have to take the plug out to work my screen. It is completely unresponsive (regardless of where I'm at on the screen) while charging. As soon as I unplug it, it's fine.
Any ideas?
Where did you buy the charger from? Some crappy no-name/ebay/cheap chargers do that because they are crap. I had bought a cheap charger for my HTC Touch Pro 2 and that same thing happened, used the regular charger, no problems at all.
I know when I used the charger and cable that came with the thunderbolt, it used to become laggy or less responsive. Not terrible, but I could notice it. It was like all the memory was tied up. It doesn't do it anymore though. I rarely use the original cable and charger anyways.

Today I tried to charge my phone at work using my original.al charger that I always use and while it was plugged in, the screen wouldn't respond at all. I thought the phone was the problem but I later troubleshot it to low voltage from the extension cord, not my charger.
There are in fact quite a few micro-usb chargers that cause the screen to become unresponsive when plugged in.. This doesn't necessarily mean that the charger is crap, but it's best to use your manufacturer-approved (oem) chargers whenever possible. I work in wireless, and although our supplier is reputable, their generic chargers don't work well with the Atrix & a few other smartphones. I use them only when necessary, but do your phone a favor & stick to manufacturer chargers.
I had this problem, when I use a properly grounded surge protector the problem doesn't happen any more. It also happens to me when I charge out of my old macbook pro which tends to have a 'staticy' feel to it.

You're two months late with your incorrect post. There's a well defined standard for USB chargers, which the TB follows. Non-OEM ones work every bit as well as the HTC one as long as they, too, follow the standard and provide clean power.

Sorry my timing bothered you I was just browsing around for info about the touchscreen issues i've seen. I'm well aware of the standard, 5 +/- 0.25 volts 500–900 mA, and they all seem to charge perfectly well but certain phone/charger combos cause some screens to lag & I just wondered why. For example the motorola adapters all seem to be 5.1 volts @ 850mA, whereas samsung adapters are 5.0 volts @ 700 mA, and the samsungs charge fine on our standard 5/500's while the moto's lag.

It's not clear where the "500-900 mA" and "standard 5/500" figures you give come from. Neither is from the USB Battery Charging Specification.
The spec supports up to a 1.5 A current from a Dedicated Charging Port. The HTC charger is rated at 1 A, and it seems the TB will use all of it. I've seen charging rates of 800 mA, with the phone also running screen, GPS, and more.
Cheap ones, regardless of output, may be poorly filtered with a significant AC component. Those are the ones which will really cause problems.
I was digging around on ebay for accessories for my G5 and i suddenly found this type of wireless charger for LG G5 that comes with a sticker and it has a cable on the bottom to transfer the charge from the sticker into the phone. So.... has anyone tried it already? Comment what do you think about it. Are we getting closer to have wireless charging capability the same or similar way than other devices with wireless charging feature? In my opinion this might be an improvement. (not that i use wireless charging a lot but it is sometimes useful)
I've seen that this doesnt only work for the LG G5, it actually works for any device with type C usb as i have been digging even more and see that it works for other devices too.

You still need to get the charging base, unless you have one, many of these receiver that plugs into the USB port is not very reliable, too many detection error and very fragile, but I did try a micro USB QI receiver yesterday on the G5 and it work fine, that is upto now without error also trying some QI extention cable receiver, still work perfect.

What is most interesting about this is that it works with any device (smartphone) with Type C . According to the descriptions you find on ebay and amazon. I will have to give it a try. Dont know when i will be able to buy it exactly, but i will
I would check the output. These G5 take a large 1800mA (could be more haven't looked) charger. I used to grab those Qi universal charger films you are talking about. Worked great until phones started taking 1000mA or greater chargers. Many of these wireless chargers do NOT support fast enough charging. Meaning it could take 4 hours to get your battery to 50% or even longer (some are only 500mA chargers, almost 75% slower than normal).
So be prepared for extremely slow, albeit convenient, charging. Check the output of your charging base and the output of the charging film first.
I just ordered that sticker from eBay. I'll report back once I have it and tested it. I have the tylt 3-coil wireless charger. Charging speed is no issue for me. I don't need rapid charging like from the OEM charger.
If you don't have tylt, you can try the spigen 3-coil wireless charger. They're cheap on eBay! I'm not sure if it'll work (I haven't tested it) , but spigen is a good brand for most things.

There is only one available, no matter where you buy it, it's the same product, speed is slower than cable, but that was expected, if you use a case, it's very fiddly to put on and take off, as the plug area is very big when you compare them to other receivers like the micro USB or lightning.

If you are concern about slow speed, you shouldn't use it, as I say it's slower than cable, I mean with a normal charger, not a fast charger, but i'm ok with that, I have never liked fast charge, if you are using a TPU case, it easy to use, but cases like my voia or spigen style armor with removable bottom has problems, the head is very big, so not all case will fit.

Great!! thanks for sharing. Any intel about how long does it take to charge from x% to y%? any given value to x and any given value greater than X given to Y. Also, when you are using the device, whether it transfer enough energy to keep using the phone while it charges or whether the battery will decrease while you are using the phone. (In an average usage: Say, Facebook, youtube with brightness in about 50-70%, or having at least 3 or 4 applications running in the background that are not so heavy, nor light) If you have tried any of this things, or all of them, please share your experience with it.
According to the description of the link i posted, it says that the output is 1000mA
But thank you for sharing the video
With about 1 hour of charging, i got about 10% of charge. If there's load, it'll def drop the charging capability. I'll do more rigorous testing, but as it stands, it's charging slowly.
Part of it can also be because I'm using the tylt charger, which has a 5 w output.

hmm yeah. There might be some factors affecting the rate of charge. I mean, 10% in 1 hour? that shouldn't be a standard charge rate. I will dig in a little more and see what i can find out there in google. Maybe someone did try it with a charging dock with higher Watts output. I will let you know if i found something

Okay, before i looked into google i decided to see what other sellers on ebay have to offer and here is what i found. There are sellers that sell the sticker along with a charging dock with an input of 2000mA and output of 1000mA, Power: 10W. I think that would only double the estimated time you just gave me from x to y being 10% in 1 hour . But it still too low. Maybe the cover is another factor? Maybe there are materials that decrease the overall charging rate by slowing the transference of energy from the dock to the wireless receiver. I will look for more info.
Hello,

The cable should support the fast charging technique.
The cable should be at least 1.8m long.
Can you recommend a good one?

I bought a 3m anker cable which works fine with fast charging, you can get 1.8m ones too, anker are a reliable brand imo, I got it off amazon though, but I'm sure other vendors will sell them too, I hope that helps.
After going through 30+ odd cables over the past 5 years, the only decent ones seem to be the magnetic ones. They don't tend to bend and are considerably less prone to damage.
I got this one and it works flawlessly, the angled connector makes it great for bed as well.

Definitely go with Anker they make great cables
