Rooting LG G3 (D850) AT&T tried all methods in the forums - AT&T LG G3

Root checker just says "root is not properly installed", would like to know if upgrading and the rooting from there would be the best choice. Using 6.0.0.1 Marshmellow

The more updated the less likely your going to be able to root.. last time I heard of rooting the G3 you needed to downgrade to Kitkat
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Why KitKat? I hear there are some Nougat things but i've only seen this when google search for "root" methods specifically.

You have to downgrade. There are tutorials out there. I had to go back to 5.0 so I could root it, then install twrp with twrp manager, then install 7.0. There are no shortcuts. Use LG Tool to flash stock firmware. Here is one of the tutorials: https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-lg-g3/general/downgrade-lg-g3-d850-to-kit-kat-t3437524

Solved my issue of rooting by downgrading to 4.2 in LG Flash Tool without any problems, I guess my only question now is how do I get to 7.1 Nougat without any issues?

I went to RR 7.0. Some you have to bump. But, if you must have twrp, then download the rom, and gapps on your sd card. Go to twrp. Wipe, then install. I have did it and all runs good. Installing twrp is easy. Go to playstore. Get twrp manager and install twrp. Reboot to recovery. Boom.

Found myself going to Cloudy 2.5, solved my issue( occasional blue screen every 2 minutes turning on with success but unable to stay on) assuming the board is dead.

kingroot worked on 6.0.
installed twrp with flashify,
installed lineage 15 with twrp,
flashed magisk 14.

Shutting down Repeatedly When trying to Update Marshmallow

Hi All,
I have Moto X play running on android 5.1.1 lollipop. It was rooted recently and used with cyanogen Mod 12.1 for a month. during that time i did back up of entire phone. later i restored that and at present i have been using stock Rom. Recently i got official update for Android marshmallow and i downloaded the 500+Mb file and tried to install. In that process it was going to Twrp recovery mode and not installing properly. So i did reboot system. After 5 mins i turned on mobile, it got shutdown and i again restored my backup . It was working fine. cant we update to Marshmallow with the rooted device? If so how to stop the notifications of android system updates? I tried this way but still i am getting update notification
Apps--> All---> Motorola Update services--> turned off the notification
.How to disable it so that i should not receive update notification? or any other process to upgrade to marshmallow even after rooting? Please let me know

you need stock recovery to update to OTA mm, you cannot update from TWRP. download the lollipop stock-firmware extract the recovery file and flash it, then update.
i wanted to ask that after restoring from backup you got OTA update notification ? or you downloaded the MM update from other sources?? because i thought after rooting i wont get official OTA.

if you have your backup just do a full flash on stock rom and start fresh. there's an Asian 6.0 rom (I believe it is Indian) on the x play github. then proceed with root again.

First rooted the mobile. before installing the cyanogen Mod 12.1, i took back up in TWRP recovery mode. i used that same backup to restore after my device got shutdown. Yes even after rooting i got the Update notification

Sir, Is it possible to unroot the rooted devices in any way? if so could you please let me know
if you want to unroot you can do it from superuser, its mentioned in the youtube video. just unroot from superuser settings.
then if you want to upgrade to marshmallow download Indian stock lollipop rom from https://github.com/motoxplay/stock. unzip it on your computer to the the folder where you kept TWRP while flashing it . you'll see a file named recovery.img.
from adb run the command
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
i.e flash this recovery just the way you flashed TWRP.
then you can update to marshmallow.
and did disabling google play services removed your update notification???

nope no problem just flash the recovery. but before doing anything take a backup on your external sdcard twrp>>backup[look at bottom to change where to store the backup select sd card] for security if in case anything goes wrong, you can flash twrp again and restore.
and remember to select 'ALLOW OEM UNLOCK' and usb debugging options from settings>>developer options

Just follow the procedure as given in that thread and everything will be fine.
It has nothing to do with the way you rooted your phone.
If a phone has twrp installed, he has nothing to fear about upgrading to latest versions as the updates are made available on Xda in Twrp flashable zip.
So no need to format the stock firmware again and then update and then all the headache.

1. correct
1.1. check oem unlock and usb debugging
1.2. Copy the original old backup which you took, to your external sdcard. [just to return to stock if anything goes wrong]
2. Just flash the recovery which is present in the lollipop rom, no need to flash the whole rom.
3. correct
4. Do NOT flash the old superuser to root. To root again follow these steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-play/general/root-how-to-root-6-0-easly-t3277202
that other post was much easier

So just to clarify, I have a 6045I factory global unlocked from Amazon, It has never been rooted, bootloader unlocked, nothing. You can try windroid toolkit v3.1.
First u have to unlock bootloader then to flash recovery and supersu .
For me it is not recognising my phone hope u will get success.

Well the obvious choices are:
1) Use mobile Q to restore to 5.0.2...unlock bootloader, install twrp....upgrade to marshmallow using the modified update.zip that doesn't wipe recovery and finally root using the file mentioned.
or
2) Live with it as it is until someone figures out how to restore fastboot which will probably still require downgrading.

That's the problem. This phone is totally stock with nothing done but the update. I literally charged it, turned it on and 20 minutes later 6.0.1 was nagging for install, which I did. There is now the OEM unlock switch in developing options, but I don't know where to start, or flash.

I used this guide to flash twrp then used twrp to root on stock 6045O 6.0.1.

Rollback to 6.0.0 still neccessary? And some Q

Hi,
I unlocked My bootloader successfully and installed twrp. Everythings fine so far.
Now I saw a thread mentioning a rollback to stock 6.0.0 is neccessary before installing cm13 because of the baseband. Do I still have to do that?
I also read about supersu. Do I have to install it before cm? In a rooted device? I thought supersu is for rooting the device?
And finally I thought cm13 is stable for My A9 but there are only nightly builds. Recommended for daily use?
Sry for all those noob questions, but I already read around for hours, without coming to a solution. Although flashing cm to My S5 Mini was alot easier.
I appreciate any help with that stuff.
?
Btw. I saw the supersu Thread and I found instructions on how to root the device.
The Instruction says I have to install supersu to root the device. In the supersu thread they say my device has to be rooted to install supersu.
Confusion is complete
On all devices I've had, never had to root (SuperSU) to install CyanogenMod. Just unlock bootloader and install twrp.
The SuperSU thread is wrong, I read the same thing when I had a nexus 5. I think it means just bootloader needs to be unlocked.
Only time I used SuperSU was if I was on stock rom. CM13 has root built in. Enable it in developer options.
As far as having to downgrade to 6.0, no idea if it's still needed. It's one of the reasons I'm still on stock. I don't like methods needed to downgrade.
thx
Thanks for your reply.
I installed CM13 nightly successfully on my A9.
No Rollback neccessary.

Really? Your phone had latest stock update and you installed cm13, and have no issues with it? No boot loops?
I've been using cm for some days. Some apps a crashing once a while, voice recording in whatsapp doesnt work without crashing the APP. AS far as I use My phone it is fine.
I booted the phone two times since I installed cm and no bootloops.
Bought it in germany.
Edit: Don't know it was the latest stock. I left the Version that was already installed on the phone. AS far as I remember it was 6.0.1

Bootloop after Root

I used Wugfresh's Bacon Root Toolkit to root my phone. I unlocked my bootloader and rooted my phone correctly and even got a confirmation by the toolkit saying that my phone was successfully rooted. However, my phone has been stuck on the CYANOGEN MOD READY for the last 30 minutes. How do I fix this?!

You should never use toolkits for rooting!
Now you need to flash TWRP recovery and flash any stock/custom rom as you like.
Flashing recovery wouldn't be much of a issue as your bootloader is already unlocked.

I'm not talking about SuperSu.zip,Twrp has inbuilt root script, use that.
Flashing SuperSU will cause bootloop in Cm13 buddy.

Phone stuck in "device is booting now" screen after oreo update

Hi guys,
I tried to update my Bln-l21 from emui 5 (nougat) to emui 8 (oreo) using the guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/how-to/guide-update-to-emui-8-t3807806
It worked so I went on to install TWRP from https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/development/rom-emui-8-0-0-honor-6x-dual-sim-t3794079, as suggested in a comment on the guide.
Only then I realized that in order to install Gapps I needed GSM installer, so I downloaded it, but it didn't work because it loaded TWRP instead of the stock erecovery.
I started to panic real bad
I tried reinstalling the firmware using hwota8 (since i had upgraded i figured i had to use that), but it completely destroyed my phone.
Now it wont boot, recovery wont boot and neither erecovery. I can only get it to enter fastboot.
I know, I am a total noob, but PLEASE help me out on this, i'm desperate.
Thank you so much
If you can enter into fastboot, just install twrp, boot into twrp and flash the ROM using HuRUpdater. Use your external storage for the HuRUpdater and the ROM files. The instructions are here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/tool-flash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279
Before flashing through Hurupdater wipe system Cache Data Internal and Dalvik/ART Cache.

Thank you for the answer, I was able to boot in TWRP (the one in the original post) and I downloaded Huru, but I'm unsure of which firmware to use. I want to downgrade back to nougat and rebrand back to europe (since the guide in the original post made me change to china).
Thank you again
Just use China and then install a custom ROM

Just use the original files you used in the first place. The ones you downloaded from the thread. In terms of a custom ROM there is a thread in Custom ROMS section for Pixys OS. Just search stable Pie ROM for Honor 6x and install it. It's very smooth, etc.
This is a EMUI 8 ROM. If you want to go back to EMUI 5 don't use this. This will only restore EMUI 8. After that flash Custom ROM Don't go back to EMUI 5

Hi, I successfully flashed with Hurupdater and I'm going trough the installation of the pixys rom. The guide says that i need to flash the stock recovery for my device, where can I find it?
Can I pull it from the firmware I used for Huru? If that's the case, how?
Thank you again
I do have instructions over there but cause you asked I will tell.
Extract the Update.zip the large file. In it you will have an Update.app. Now serach for Huawei Update Extractor on XDA and Download it. Run the application and navigate to Update.app. Select it and in settings of Extractor uncheck the first option. Now extract Recovery_Ramdis.img and flash it. Luck.

Really there is no need for that. I did what anyone would do. Your thanks is enough.
Can you tell me what version you flashed. What TWRP did you use and what was the message after flashing. Now regarding Magisk, I am gonna assume you flashed the ZIP and the Magisk Manager app didn't show up, correct? To solve that just download Magisk Manager v6.0.1 and install the apk.
If that's not the issue then download any Root Checker app to see if device is rooted. Although I guess you need Magisk Manager to validate Root access. So just install Magisk Manager and let me know what it says. If it says device is unrooted then you probably need to flash Magisk again.
P.S: I don't have a PayPal. Not yet available in my country.

I really appreciate your kindness,
I flashed the latest version of magisk available from the official thread using the same TWRP from before (king of mezi TWRP from elemental rom thread) and it looked fine... Yes, the app didn't show up, I will try with the manager and I'll let you know.
[edit] I installed the manager and turns out it actually worked the first time and I'm already rooted!
Thank you again, you've been wonderful!
Glad to help.
