Then you probably will need to factory reset or re-install firmware or root to fix it.

Then it's either a problem with update in playstore(which can't be fixed), but I think last version was released in july and I think I was able to update to it, can't check now cause I'm on RR rom. Other problem could be that there is something wrong with your firmware(this would be very weird). What firmware you currently have?

Sry can't help you, you have already tried all normal methods. And factory reset should've been enough in this kind of problem.

I was curious if i was to reset my phone would i have to go through the whole process of getting the update again. Or will my phone reset with the update.
Thanks in advance.
I would assume it would reset with the new update, as this isn't an app install, it's a whole 'reflash' of the OS.

Hi guys,
Just like other people I have also rooted my Note 3 and flagged/tripped the KNOX counter...
The issue first appeared when I was trying to upgrade from Android OS, v4.3 (Jelly Bean) to v4.4.2 (KitKat). The update notification popped, it took roughly 40 minutes to download the firmware and I was then prompted to install. The device then restarted automatically as usual and I received the "Failure to update" window. I have tried couple of times more in case something went wrong with the download but it didn't help. So I had to install the update manually from SamMobile, using Odin and wiping my phone data. Everything went well and I am now enjoying the KitKat version.
Today it seems a new update appeared around 26 MB and I am facing the same issue. After I download the update and hit install, the device will restart and then show the "Failure to update" window.
Is there any way to fix this? Does it mean I can never install the updates automatically?
Please advise and thanks in advance.

Oke, well you can`t install official updates when you are rooted (modified the system)! I suggest you download Mobile Odin Pro from Play and flash the whole new rom from www.sammobile.com and keep root.

Right, so I can just receive the updates but not install them! that's convenient
Do I have to wipe everything again or just install the latest update? Because if I have to wipe everything each time there's an update, I may just cancel the whole update thing until there's something like a major update

You don`t have to wipe as the updates atm are mostly bugfixes. Only wipe cache and dalvik cache after the flash.

Okay I think I got it, so each time there's an update I must download the whole ROM and flash it on top of the current? Since it's the same, it only updates the files that are needed while keeping the rest of the system intact.

Hi
Root is possible on Nougat but you need TWRP , follow all steps 1-10

backup , what backup ??
Please explain in detail
I think he means that he has backed up in TWRP before trying to root.
Every time I try to flash with twrp I get stuck in a bootloop or in the recovery with the /data error.
Best of luck to you. Please let me know if you find a way. Thanks

LOL... Who cares what backup I'm talking about? That's irrelevant to the question, which was "does this require starting over?"
Let me try asking again, I suppose.
Does this require [mean that I'll need to be] starting over [Reformatting/wiping all data on device; 'starting' from factory settings] or could I restore a backup [the copied data from my phone to another device, in order to restore data] I made [after rooting with the method you posted]?

Relevant is to ask correctly , to the point and give relevant information , this is not the mind reading section of the forum
what kind of backup you made? Titanium?
What data you mean , user data or apps data?
If you followed the procedure in post 3 the same in both telephones( same model) and both have the same firmware restoring app and settings , user data should be possible ...data of those apps i would not restore .

Does this imply that one backup may not restore data in this case while another may? I used SmartSwitch on a PC, Titanium wouldn't let me back up without root. Are you implying that it matters which backup program I use?
I wasn't planning to back up app data such as game progress, just apps, user settings and files.
I've already started from factory 3 times on this phone and I simply didn't want to go through settings again.
Regardless I think this gives me the information I needed, I wouldn't feel so bad about restarting my phone again just to root it, if I can get all my settings and files back.

Do you mean keeping the encrypted data from the stock firmware? If so, then no. Root always changes the encryption keys. Even the methods that allow root + encryption still require a wipe at first.
Good night guys, I'm from Brazil.
I really need your help.
I recently bought the Honor 8 FRD-AL10 by Gearbest
Everything perfect with this phone, only 2 days ago I was using HiSuite on my computer, and it has an option to update the system.
I clicked on this option, and it started to update to this version: frd-l19c432b389, so it ended he hung up, started to install the updates, but did not boot anymore, it always starts. And then restarted again.
Detail, I can not enable anything about USB debugging, or anything like this
can you help me please

Hi all,
So I really want to install the beta, but I'm not in one of the participating countried, but I've found the firmware online and I can install it through Odin. I've done this many times to root previous phones, but I don't want to lose the data on my phone after installing. Is there any option to keep the data while installing the firmware in odin?

You need to save any photos and files on your phone, either on the cloud or your PC. With a major OS update like this, if you don't do a factory reset you will have problems. Battery drain, apps force closing, spontaneous reboots.
If you don't want to do a factory reset, then you're better off not upgrading. It's not worth the misery.
FWIW: I've not seen an Oreo beta that can be flashed via Odin. Are you sure it isn't the one in the General section that you install via ADB sideload?
