Hi all,
So I really want to install the beta, but I'm not in one of the participating countried, but I've found the firmware online and I can install it through Odin. I've done this many times to root previous phones, but I don't want to lose the data on my phone after installing. Is there any option to keep the data while installing the firmware in odin?

You need to save any photos and files on your phone, either on the cloud or your PC. With a major OS update like this, if you don't do a factory reset you will have problems. Battery drain, apps force closing, spontaneous reboots.
If you don't want to do a factory reset, then you're better off not upgrading. It's not worth the misery.
FWIW: I've not seen an Oreo beta that can be flashed via Odin. Are you sure it isn't the one in the General section that you install via ADB sideload?

Hi guys,
Just like other people I have also rooted my Note 3 and flagged/tripped the KNOX counter...
The issue first appeared when I was trying to upgrade from Android OS, v4.3 (Jelly Bean) to v4.4.2 (KitKat). The update notification popped, it took roughly 40 minutes to download the firmware and I was then prompted to install. The device then restarted automatically as usual and I received the "Failure to update" window. I have tried couple of times more in case something went wrong with the download but it didn't help. So I had to install the update manually from SamMobile, using Odin and wiping my phone data. Everything went well and I am now enjoying the KitKat version.
Today it seems a new update appeared around 26 MB and I am facing the same issue. After I download the update and hit install, the device will restart and then show the "Failure to update" window.
Is there any way to fix this? Does it mean I can never install the updates automatically?
Please advise and thanks in advance.

Right, so I can just receive the updates but not install them! that's convenient
Do I have to wipe everything again or just install the latest update? Because if I have to wipe everything each time there's an update, I may just cancel the whole update thing until there's something like a major update

You don`t have to wipe as the updates atm are mostly bugfixes. Only wipe cache and dalvik cache after the flash.

Okay I think I got it, so each time there's an update I must download the whole ROM and flash it on top of the current? Since it's the same, it only updates the files that are needed while keeping the rest of the system intact.

You`re welcome bro
I recently purchased the Metropcs version of this device. The Google, Metro and Samsung apps constantly want to update after a reboot although I've updated them several times. Other apps I've installed and setup to my preferences reset as if I just installed them. I've factory reset and also reinstalled via Smart Switch using PC. Still the same issues persist. I've been unable to enjoy my device. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, where can I find the latest Odin flashable firmware ending in APK6. None of the suggested links/sites in this forum have it. Thank you.

You have a Nandroid problem brother. Go to sammobile.com and look up your model, SM-J700T1 (you can also flash the SM-J700T firmware the devices are identical) and download the APK6 firmware update. You can find a download for Odin here at xda. Now, before you flash anything at anytime ever, make sure you have USB debugging and OEM unlock ticked in developer options or you're screwed. After you download the zip extract it with 7z or Winrar on your computer and put the file in the AP slot in Odin. Once it confirms the md5 go to options (the second tab) in Odin and click Nandroid erase all, bootloader update and factory reset time. Make sure auto reboot is NOT clicked. Flash your phone, once finished unplug your phone and drop the battery for about thirty seconds. Power your phone on holding the recovery buttons so the update can erase your system, data and files and install it's system. You should see this screen twice. Once recovery runs twice you're good to go bro. Let me know how it goes.

Thank you so much for the reply. Believe me I searched for the answers using the Xda Google Advanced search as I've been around the forum for a minute and understand the dangers of being flamed. If there is a Xda link to the latest firmware for Metropcs please link me to it. At this moment I'm downloading the SM-J700T firmware. I never could find a straight answer as if it was compatible with Metropcs. As far as USB debugging, OEM unlock and unknown sources, I enable those on any phone/rom. Anyway, as soon as the download is finished I will follow your instructions and get back to you. Btw, are you using Titanium Backup and have you had good results restoring backups?
Yeah I only use and trust TB! Works great most of the time, I've only had a few issues with restoring data. That could be related to switching ROMS though. I haven't seen any APK6 firmware downloads on xda yet, unfortunately. I trust sammobile though, I've never had a problem with their firmwares.

Hi OP, not sure if this will still help or not but last night I downloaded the APK6 software from this site:
http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?record=B165AF8AC6E611E69215FA163EE8F90B
Once downloaded, all I did is flash it in Odin via AP. I did not delete any data, and just let Odin reset the phone after it was done. Not only did it get me back to stock completely, but I also am now able to check for official updates. I am on Metro PCS as well, and it works great so far. Hopefully this helps, and hopefully you don't have just a bad lemon. All the best of luck to you.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that once I flashed ROM, I did have to factory reset due to apps that were on the custom ROM I flashed from not being present in the official build. After that, everything was golden.

Hey guys, just an update. I have not returned the phone, but this is what's going on. I believe Google Play Services is the culprit. I can't get it to be stable. I've tried uninstalling updates and installing a update via a downloaded apk, wiping chache and data..all to no avail. But I discovered multiple copies of various files duplicated over and over. I was wondering why my nandroid backup was over 9 GB. I want to try to flash a custom rom to see if it remedies the issue. I see that there are only 2 in this particular forum and they both seem to have issues. Are there any others that are compatible from the other variants. Again I've searched, but there seems to be no straight answers. Here a screenshot of what I found in data/app. These files are multiple copies of Google Play Services. There were many more copies of maps and other apps.
where can i find a list of stock firmwares for this phone my is metropcs j700t1,im trying to remove frp

When the beta was out I remember people saying in the thread that OTA to stable would be available but I have since learnt that OnePlus never push OTA to stable for beta testers, if it is true it is a shame and a strange decision because less people would testa beta and find errors.
Looking at the help text for oxygen updater it seems like they also mention factory reset
It's always been the case that if you test betas you have to wipe for stable installation. Nothing new. That's just the way it goes

Hi,
I bought my phone three months back. Ever since the last update Version Name - WW18.0840.2106.86 my wifi and Hotspot just won't turn on.
I have been through the asus forum and seems like alot of customers are facing this issue.
One of them confirmed that even after replacing motherboard the issue persists. Others are facing air trigger issues after replacing the motherboard.
Just wanted to know if anyone here is facing similar issues.
DO let me know your thoughts on should I visit service center and Get my motherboard replaced or should I wait for the next update. My current Version Name - WW18.0840.2107.151
PS: My phone is not rooted
Thanks
I have not had these issues personally. I just updated to .151 last night though, so we shall see.
The general consensus is that the mobo needs to be replaced, and will most likely not get fixed with a software update. If it was correctable, a major issue like this would have forced a new FW update after .86 caused your initial problem.
You could always try flashing raw FW if you really want to tinker, but I doubt it will help. I would hit the service center and get the mobo replaced.
Good luck!

OTA files are the standard updates. There are a lot of how to guides that answer most of these questions, which may be why nobody is jumping up to walk you through it.
I wouldn't trust someone installing OTA files in TWRP because the system handles them already without any software. That is just asking for problems.

"Quick Filters" let you see all posts of a certain type. This can make finding posts easier, but what if a guide began as a "Question"? This thread aims to bridge that gap. You will find nearly all of the common things new owners are trying to...

The link I posted earlier is included in that. Not sure why nothing showed up for it, but maybe you'll have better luck getting to it that way.
There's always a possibility it is a hardware issue. A lot of them have been SIM, Wifi, and Bluetooth issues. If you suspect a kernel issue, make sure you are following the instructions to restore. If you only flashed a boot, you didn't follow the instructions.
I'm on AT&T Snapdragon 512gb S22U locked firmware AVG6. I want to sideload the ONE UI 5 Beta but I don't want to lose my data. Has anyone had success using this method and keeping their files?
I keep seeing mixed responses, some people on S908U1 were able to keep all their data and people on S908U were not able to keep data.
Any help would be appreciated.
I know flashing from U to U1 usually requires a clean install, but installing a beta shouldn't require that.
I think you can Samsung backup and sideload this update. Backups are a good habit.
No files were lost after my device was updated
If you don't want to risk losing data, then don't do it. Beta isn't for people who are scared of losing data.
Samsung Smart Switch is for backup of data, so I don't think that this is topic to open !!

I have too, but by definition beta software is unstable and many problems can happen that can irrevocably cause data loss. It's best practice to backup and be prepared to lose data in case it happens, unless you don't care about your data.
You should only need to clean install if you are changing region firmware (ex U/U1). I'm not sure why you're trying to go the sideload method of getting on OneUI 5? Why aren't you just enrolling through the members app and OTA updating? OTA guarantees you won't lose any data. Going with sideloading, if you flash the wrong variant say goodbye to all your data because you'll probably soft-brick and have to factory reset. I'm just not sure I see any benefits to sideloading over going OTA unless I'm missing something here

Because the Beta is not open to locked U firmware AT&T models. Can't use Samsung members to get in.
Sideloading is done when OTA is unavailable, as in my case.

Thanks, I know all of this.
I've never had a Beta that caused any data loss.
Unless I manually did a clean install myself.
Update U1 variant no data was wiped
S908B, Exynos, beta didn't wipe anything.
U1 256GB unlocked from best buy. I didn't lose any data.
S22U Exynos, no data wipe when sideloaded beta...even the previously applied HEX theme was preserved
I'm more looking for people with locked U firmwares to share their experience.
I already know Exynos and Unlocked firmwares don't have data wipe after install.
@Kris_b1104 You've been asking this for several days now. It literally would have taken you less time to just backup, update, and restore if it wiped. At this rate, by the time enough people answer you, the beta is going to be over.

Isn't this what the forum is for? Why do you have a problem with my question? Just ignore it and move on.
I see you asking multiple times in other threads how to change your CSC, but when I ask a question it seems to be an issue for you. Go touch grass.

You can ask whatever you want, I'm just telling you time is running out to test the beta while you're being indecisive!
And actually I am at the park right now and touching grass! It is a beautiful feeling with the wind in my hair and the blades of grass running through my fingers while I play with One UI 5 beta. So cheers to that!

Thanks for your concern about my indecisiveness. I think I'll manage.
Enjoy the beta!

It's implied in the first post...
Why is everyone so salty on XDA lately? It's quite humorous.
