I am currently rocking the Open Beta 2, I wanted to manually update to the latest stable version of Android Q (not open beta), but I get a message saying that I'll lose all my files (factory reset) which I don't want.
will there be stable OTA for open beta users... Should I wait? Or eventually I'll have to flash it manually and lose my data? :crying:
Thanks!
sorry for my nooby questions.

When the beta was out I remember people saying in the thread that OTA to stable would be available but I have since learnt that OnePlus never push OTA to stable for beta testers, if it is true it is a shame and a strange decision because less people would testa beta and find errors.
Looking at the help text for oxygen updater it seems like they also mention factory reset
It's always been the case that if you test betas you have to wipe for stable installation. Nothing new. That's just the way it goes

Hi,
is there any way how to get official 4.1 OTA in region, where OTA is still unavailable? Somehow change region of my note and then check for OTA? Is this possible? If yes, how?

I know it sounds crazy and I am anxious as everyone else but my experience having had several android devices is that it is often better to just wait.
I have know special knowledge about the release date but the way the JB update is rolling out for the S3 and the N10.1 we should have it in most if not all regions by the end of the year which is only 4 weeks away.
Personally I am quite happy with the way the tablet currently opperates, sure I am excited about the new premium suite and google now but the tablet is currently doing everything I need it to do so persoanlly I would counsel waiting until the official release.
Nah, bugger that....

"Hmm, but this means wipe of my device right?"
f you are rooted and use mobile ODIN you can update without loosing everything, just make sure cache/data wipe and dalvik are unticked before flashing. You may loose root and go back to stock recovery but flash CWM again and all is well with the world.... Just remember to run triangle away again to reset that pesky flash counter...
"How about flashing if you have an nt8010 would it cause problems???"
Not too sure about the 8010/8013 as there is the modem part of the software but apparently there has been a fix to disable this. Most people who own one of these units have posted it works well but I'm not gonna guarantee anything as I personally don't own one...

I personally flasehd the JB 4.1.1 German ROM on an ICS 4.0.4 Italian ROM (not rooted) through Odin, and everything worked like a charm, no wipe, all settings remained unchanged, all apps (even disabled ones remained disabled)

Hey guys. I think I, pretty familiar with what I need to do, but I haven't done it before. Currently I'm on the FEBRUARY security update (7.1.1) and have root. I am hoping to upgrade to 7.1.2 without losing any of my personal data and apps. I am weary to try flash fire, so could someone more experienced help me out?
I know I need to download the full OTA image and flash it and remove some -W flag, but I don't want to brick my device or lose my data, so I'll let you guys steer me. Thanks in advance, by the way!
P.S. I never fully installed TWRP.

Everything is good, except losing twrp, but i do not mind. root still available

Did you save the file after you edited it? Take a look at the flashall you used and see if the -w is still in there. Willing to bet it is. I've done this for every update since November. Never had a problem. The only thing I can think of that would cause your data to get wiped is that you didn't save the changes after you edited it.

yeah saved it. There was only one section that had the w- and it was right before the update image. I can try it again at some point later on but that's what I did. I tried to sideload adb the OTA first which does not wipe data but kept getting an error saying device not found and emulator.

You need to save any photos and files on your phone, either on the cloud or your PC. With a major OS update like this, if you don't do a factory reset you will have problems. Battery drain, apps force closing, spontaneous reboots.
If you don't want to do a factory reset, then you're better off not upgrading. It's not worth the misery.
FWIW: I've not seen an Oreo beta that can be flashed via Odin. Are you sure it isn't the one in the General section that you install via ADB sideload?

MOD EDIT: Language
I pay for my programs so I do not need Adaway.
For programs I can not buy, putting up with a few ads is the price of using the program
Also I am not always toying with things to get things like Bank apps and Google Pay to work, never have to worry about bricking anything.
Hi guys,
I have to remove "most" posts from this thread to clean it up. Please do show some respect when you discuss matters with a fellow members. I know that online forum is more open and free than real world, but if you would not say some harsh words to someone in real life, do not say it here either.
It is totally OK to have your own ways of using your own phones, but it must be done without calling names on a member.
Feel free to hit the Report button when you see a bad move on XDA. Thanks.

It is supposed to preserve your data. But I never assume that it will work the way it is supposed to. That goes for any updates, and especially as one as major as Android 9 > 10.
Backup anything that is important to you on a routine basis (method of your choice - many options), and definitely before an update. Then as I like to say: Expect the best, but prepare for the worst. In other words, you will probably be able to update and keep your data. But you are prepared just in case anything goes wrong.

Thanks guys for the tips, but I know how to backup my data. Problem is that I have around 170gb of data on my phone and do not have a space to store it. I will have some 2tb disk soon but it is hard to wait
I'm on AT&T Snapdragon 512gb S22U locked firmware AVG6. I want to sideload the ONE UI 5 Beta but I don't want to lose my data. Has anyone had success using this method and keeping their files?
I keep seeing mixed responses, some people on S908U1 were able to keep all their data and people on S908U were not able to keep data.
Any help would be appreciated.
I know flashing from U to U1 usually requires a clean install, but installing a beta shouldn't require that.
I think you can Samsung backup and sideload this update. Backups are a good habit.
No files were lost after my device was updated
If you don't want to risk losing data, then don't do it. Beta isn't for people who are scared of losing data.
Samsung Smart Switch is for backup of data, so I don't think that this is topic to open !!

I have too, but by definition beta software is unstable and many problems can happen that can irrevocably cause data loss. It's best practice to backup and be prepared to lose data in case it happens, unless you don't care about your data.
You should only need to clean install if you are changing region firmware (ex U/U1). I'm not sure why you're trying to go the sideload method of getting on OneUI 5? Why aren't you just enrolling through the members app and OTA updating? OTA guarantees you won't lose any data. Going with sideloading, if you flash the wrong variant say goodbye to all your data because you'll probably soft-brick and have to factory reset. I'm just not sure I see any benefits to sideloading over going OTA unless I'm missing something here

Because the Beta is not open to locked U firmware AT&T models. Can't use Samsung members to get in.
Sideloading is done when OTA is unavailable, as in my case.

Thanks, I know all of this.
I've never had a Beta that caused any data loss.
Unless I manually did a clean install myself.
Update U1 variant no data was wiped
S908B, Exynos, beta didn't wipe anything.
U1 256GB unlocked from best buy. I didn't lose any data.
S22U Exynos, no data wipe when sideloaded beta...even the previously applied HEX theme was preserved
I'm more looking for people with locked U firmwares to share their experience.
I already know Exynos and Unlocked firmwares don't have data wipe after install.
@Kris_b1104 You've been asking this for several days now. It literally would have taken you less time to just backup, update, and restore if it wiped. At this rate, by the time enough people answer you, the beta is going to be over.
