Does the Tmobile firmware allow the VoLTE? Don't believe the unlocked does, use that frequently just because of bad reception in home.

I haven't tried the Tmobile firmware on this device, but had no issues on my S7e or my S8+. Didn't have wifi calling though, but I don't use that anyway.

I just flashed the unlocked firmware on it and I could use it just fine.

I'd like to know as well. Don't want to lose volte & Wi-Fi calling by flashing a different firmware.

[GUIDE][Switching Carrier][Flashing Carrier][Flashing Unlocked] SM-N950U/U1
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/guide-sm-n950u-u1-t3685884

Got it working last night using a method I found I think on the S8 section.
Use "BK disabler" and search system for "tether", disable all 3. I have attached a screen shot of them.
Set up your tether options, and make sure to Enable Wi-Fi sharing.
Now try to connect to any Wi-Fi network using a wrong password. While it's trying to connect quickly enable mobile hotspot, then turn off Wi-Fi.
I did it multiple times last night, it worked every time.
if you're looking for just an app then netshare no root tethering works, but since you have to use a proxy, it only allows internet to programs where you can configure proxy settings.

May I ask what firmware is your AT&T device running?

Hi I updated from BRA8 to CRB8 and lost my ability to have a hotspot. I am using it on AT&T and now have the bloatware. Can anyone help?

I just got the Note 8, updated it all the way. I guess I'm screwed on the hot spot?

Wifi Tether Option?

Hey Guys, just rooted the Photon Q, was wondering how i could set up the wifi tether? What have you guys been using?
I want wifi tether not usb, and no switching roms
also, is there a specific version of the wifi tether for root users app youre using, with specific settings?
I'm on 4.0.4 Build Number: 7.7.1Q-6_SPR-125_ASA-14
Thanks!
I used to use this one on stock rooted.
Edit - I haven't tried it on the Q, but this app is old school but always got the job done in the past.

Ya using the app now but not working, it sends out infrastructure wifi, but nothing seems to actually get internet from it...
Using these settings
Change Device-Profile" and choose "Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)" then choose "Change Setup-Method" and hit "Netd (master)". And also MSS Clamping and Routing fix checked. Nothing gets internet from it
Hm, I can't remember the particular settings I was using... I did have to make some changes to get it to work infrastructure mode, I do remember that. It would always provide internet access, but the default settings would only send out an ad-hoc network. I didn't have to make any changes per se to get the internet tether to work, I only had to make changes (similar to the ones you made) which enabled infrastructure mode.
This is assuming we are talking about the Play Store app. I haven't used the other app I linked on my Q, give it a shot.

Portable WiFi

As the title say I want to know if there is a way to turn on WiFi hotspot without turning off WiFi I saw this feature in one of my friend's phone he was running 2.3 (Gingerbread). Is there anything like this for KitKat (4.4.2) ? Please recommend external apps or method.
Thanks

its not software related, its built in to the phone itself. most phones cant handle both connections at the same time.

If so it isn't possible to do it manually only trough apps, I suppose.
Try search Google for it if not successful try search in Google Play you might find something
If still not successful then I'm out of options
Edit: Unless you find out a way to create 2 different Wi-Fi's with the same connection. To do it you will need to go to your Internet Connection Settings trough your IP in any browser to find the IP go start than search CMD press ENTER then type Ipconfig and it should be under IPv4. Then copy your IP place it into browsers address bar pres enter. You will be provided to enter login and password. So type admin to login and admin to password. And from there you are all alone.

So, if you already have wifi, why do you need to use your phone as a hotspot, if one already exists? Or are you looking to use it as a repeater?

Anyone have Hotspot working??

Just bought a H950 and plan on rooting on 5.1.1 ... Only issue is, I must have WiFi hotspot for me to be able to keep this phone. I'm currently on cricket, and they will not unlock the carrier block on wifi hotspots. Has anyone had any luck getting this to work? Thanks.
really.... is the support/community for this phone this weak??

Locked bootloader and no method to recover from a brick depending on what firmware you are running.
You could try to add DUN to your APN settings and see if native hotspots working. Use an app like shortcut master to find the hidden menu where you can change this.
Check if this method works on the Flex, I know it was present on the G2's (ATT) LP build, and G3 too I think.

thanks to everyone for the replies, phone comes in monday. I will test all mentioned methods and report back success and failures.

It sounds like Wifi tether router worked for you? If so, what provider are you on? I have an H950 on T-Mobile and am wondering if this will help me wifi tether.
Thanks!
Cricket
What settings are you using for Wifi Tether Router? I've tried several and nothing is working for me (H950, Cricket). The SSID doesn't appear to be active on any other devices in the room.
Try WIFI Tether Router on my H950 11x rooted and it crashed on me. Can't even start the app.

You can replace AT&T firmware with the unlocked firmware and native hotspot will work. However you will lose VoLTE and Visual Voicemail. FoxFi wifi direct works pretty well if you only need it for web browsing and to connect a couple of devices. However if you want things like Xbox it won't work because Xbox doesn't have a place to use a proxy server.

Replacing the firmware is an option but it also requires starting all over again and you likely won't get OTA's. As much as I don't care for ATT's bloat and blocking wifi tethering, everything else works really well and they keep the phone up to date. So here is what I've found as a nice workaround, PDANet and FoxFi. So PDANet does have a restriction will you will have to pay to get around but its a one time fee so not that big of a deal. PDANet has both wired and wireless hotspot capabilities (thanks to wifi direct) so you can use it however you prefer. It even has an option to hide your tethering from your carrier. What I've been doing is tethering my phone to my laptop, then (thanks to Windows 10) I go to the mobile hotspot option in my windows 10 settings and enable that. Now my laptop becomes the mobile hotspot and I can connect my PS4 Pro to that. So the phone shares the connection, the laptop picks it up, then the laptop shares to other devices. Yeah its a bit messy but its super simple to setup and works great. Hope this helps someone else.
That's a great idea with the laptop.
Your best bet when going unlocked is to start fresh so that would be a bummer. I can confirm that you still get OTAs.

Working T-Mobile Hotspot Hack

Has anybody figured out how to bypass the T-Mobile hotspot throttling on the OP8? I have unlimited data but a 500mb tethering cap.
Adding settings put global tether_dun_required 0 over adb doesn't seem to work.
Does anybody have a working method?

Thanks, looks like that opens PDA net. I'll try it out.
Seems to be working. Since I mostly need it for a PC, and it requires the app, this should do.
Is the $8 premium needed? I've streamed about 1.5gb and it hasn't buffered or disconnected at all.
