Video playback issue on my S6 - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Heya everyone!
I am having an issue with my S6 that involves video playback.
The 2 scenario's I am experiencing this issue in are:
- youtube app: it will play audio, but video gives a black screen
- whatsapp: will open a video, but it doesn't play (as if it was just a picture). also doesn't open gif files at all.
yet youtube works fine in the browser, and i can watch my whatsapp gifs and video's from the gallery as normal too. (but it is still a BIG problem!!!!)
Sometimes when I restart my phone, it will start working. and other times it will just randomly start working again too.
But after a while, it will just break again and goes back to the problems described above.
I am experiencing this on different versions of the Stock Nougat firmware, even after full data wipes (including wiping the internal storage).
So I am totally clueless, but I find it hard to believe this is a hardware issue, since it does work sometimes, and then it doesn't work other times.
Any help, advice or insight in this issue is appreciated

[Q] Flash 11 problems

I have a serious problem with my flash player I think. I am unable to view youtube videos in more than 360p, at 480p the video lags like hell and the phone becomes quite unresponsive, 720p is out of the question. Moreover, the full screen button doesn't work it just shows a blank screen when pressed and upon pressing return the browser sees the flash object as an image and the video wont load.
Facebook chat is almost always placed in wrong position, half of the buttons don't work.
This has happened to me on all ROMs but the fullscreen bug only occurred in the ICS(RC1) and I have tired several different methods to fix these issues, still no luck.
So I wanted to know is this normal for flash player to behave like this? Or Do I have some sort of an issue?

[Q] Maxx 4.4.4 Video Playback Issue - Hardware or Software?

Received a refurbished 32 GB Droid Maxx from Asurion after receiving two defective Razr Maxx HDs.
Phone came from Asurion with 4.4.4 already installed.
Have tried:
1. Factory wipe.
2. Cache partition wipe.
3. Reflashed with stock 4.4.4.
4. All possible iterations of disabling/uninstalling/reinstalling/clearing data/testing in safe mode of apps listed below.
Persisting Issues (apply to updated and stock motorola camera app, google camera app, youtube, Gallery app, Photos app, Mxplayer, and test for video capture and playback using com server app in factory mode):
1. Phone frequently freezes during video capture to the point of requiring forced reboot.
2. For videos that are successfully recorded, when viewing preview in Gallery or Photos app, groups of blacks pixels alpear as artifacts. Example: please append "vxuUz1J" to imgur.com - note the artifacts to the left of wastebasket, above the door, and along the left side of the door.
3. When attempting to play videos in any of above listed apps, I often get the message "This video could not be played," either right away or after some of the video plays (changes from attempt to attempt for same video).
4. When a video does sucessfully play in any of the apps listed above (including youtube videos and in factory mode- com server video test), prominent artifacts in the form of: groups of black pixels similar to in #3;large, lingering "ghost" frames; and "glitch-like" events occur in every video. Occurrence is different in type and degree for each playback instance of the same video.
5. Additionally for youtube, when playing a video embedded in a webpage (have only tried this in chrome), video is a scrambled mess of grayscale bars (note all playback and viewing of previews in #1-4 retained color). Note that no problems have been observed with audio.
**Note that the "still camera" works perfectly fine and gallery apps show no artifacts in displaying still images.
A tech at a vzw corporate store said it was a "pixel density issue," but he had no idea how to fix it or whether it was a hardware or software issue. I take what he said with a grain of salt.
Asurion has no more new Maxx's in stock, and they refuse to send me another refurbushed phone since they have already sent me 3. Since I am hard-pressed to give up the 32 for the new 16 they are now offering me, I would appreciate any ideas or assistance in determining the cause of this issue and possibly a fix if it is software-related. Thank you!

Youtube app Audio but no Video (black screen)

I have starting to notice this has occurred more frequently lately with the Mate 9. Sometime when I opened a youtube video on the app, the video is just completely black. The audio played just fine, but there's just no video. I have try clearing cache and even go as far as factory reset several times but this issue always comes back. Is there any recommendation or settings I can change to get rid of the issue once and for all? I did not experienced this with any of my previous snapdragon phones so I don't know if it's a Kirin thing or not. I would appreciate any input from anyone that'd experienced this. TIA.
common issue among several devices. It is a youtube app problem.
I switched to newpipe for viewing videos. Never looked back.
I had this problem. Assumed it was YouTube as I've had zero issues with my Mate 9. Probably issue their end.
I have the same issue. It's very annoying.

Many Youtube Videos Donwloaded Offline are Freezing on S7

Upgraded to S7 from S5 - everything is great, except I experience one very annoying issue: many YouTube videos I download for offline viewing (have YouTube Red) start freezing after a few minutes of watching. Sometimes they freeze right away. If I clear the YouTube cache and restart the app it works for a bit and then starts freezing again (the light circle in the middle is rotating and the video keeps frozen).
No freezing happens when I watch YouTube videos over the internet. Some offline videos work fine. But some consistently do not. Never had this issue with Galaxy S5.
Here is what I tried to fix this issue:
- Wiped cache partition
- Reinstalled YouTube (disabled, updated to new version) and restarted the phone
- Enabled Developer Options and Selected Force GRU rendering - this helped a bit, but did not resolve the issue
- Turned off hardware overlays in Developer Options.
- Turned on 4x MSAA in Developer Options.
- Cleared cache in Google Play app
- Switched download storage from SD to phone to eliminate any SD issue
Any ideas?
Hello,
my only idea is that there is not much to try when app crashes, all you can really do is check in the application settings (in the system settings of the phone and then "applications") if it has all the necessary permissions, clear cache as you did but I don't think it has anything to do with developer options like forcing GPU rendering.
So, all I can think of is:
- Write to Google to explain them the bug you encounter, they might have a solution or may release a fix in a future version of the app. As you use Youtube Red, you pay for a service, in the PlayStore you have been able to install the app so it means it's not incompatible with your S7, so you have the right to ask Google for a solution or a refund.
- Try to go on apkmirror and to get an older version of the app, maybe that bug wasn't there in earlier versions.
- Try to download offline videos with LTE, or with Wifi, to see if that change anything. Maybe your LTE connection or Wifi connection isn't stable and cause downloaded files to be corrupted.
Sorry, that's all I can help you with...
EDIT: I don't know how Youtube Red works about downloading videos, but can you choose the quality? Like 360p ou 1080p for example? If yes, then maybe try different quality settings to see if that has any influence on your bug.
In the end, I would probably it is a problem of corrupted files, or a codec problem maybe. I guess you can only read those videos with the Youtube app? If ever the videos are downloaded really like video files in your phone's memory, then maybe you could try an alternate video player to read them (but my guess is that they can only be read from the youtube app).

All video and animated GIFs show green screen

Hi
I have been spending all day trying to troubleshoot this problem. On my BLu G9 (rooted), I have battled the occasional glitch where videos would stop playing. A simple restart would take care of it. Now, suddenly it has become a green screen. I hear the audio. But no video.
In VLC, I disabled Hardware Acceleration and videos work fine. I tried that in Chrome, and Youtube works. But nothing else. Twitter videos and GIFs show green. I also use Youtube Vanced and its green as well. So this is a global problem. And I see no way to disable HA across the entire phone like you can on a PC.
Anyone have any ideas?
