What's the status of Root on the Pixel 2 - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

With having unlocked bootloader's, I would imagine it wouldn't be the difficult. I dunno know, maybe I'm wrong. Can anyone shed some light on this?

No root as of yet. It's being worked on by a few but are I think they are kind of stuck at this point.
More talk about it over in the Pixel 2 XL forum.

[Q] Droid Incredible 2 (root?)

Does anyone know if the Droid Incredible 2 will have a locked bootloader? Im thinking of getting one, but definitely would want to be able to root it eventually. I would hate to get a phone and be stuck with the same ROM. Thanks.
Eh...

Someone will find a way. They always do

What is the likelihood of a 2.2 root?

Hey guys,
I know there are plenty of people working on finding a method for root, it's difficult, not trying to ask when it's going to be or why it's taking so long. I'm just wondering if it will even be possible, given HTC doesn't ever unlock the phone themselves. I love the One X, just got it and I think it's great, but I know that I'm going to eventually want to install MIUI or CM, and since my phone has 2.2 there's basically no way to do that right now.
Reading through some of the dev/think tank threads, I've read a couple of comments alluding to the idea that it might be impossible unless HTC unlocks it, and that they might not. Seems contrary to what I've seen in the past, pretty much every phone I or my friends have had got cracked at some point. Still, if it's not going to be possible ever, I might want to return my phone and switch it out for the SGS3 or some other.
I tried to Google for unrootable android phones and couldn't find any. However the percentage of devices using ics is very small and the only ones that have root as far as I can tell all have unlocked bootloaders.
It's very difficult to remain positive but I'm trying.

Y'all are so impatient!
Like any security, it just takes enough careful effort and determination to defeat. As great as the One X is, I have no doubt there will be enough of both to get this done. :good:

I don't have the technical expertise to really say. But just from experience, I can say that HTC has been desperately trying to lock down their phones for over 2 years (maybe longer, that is justs when I jumped into the Android game) with some pretty sophisticated safeguards, and the phones have still been rooted, often very quickly. I don't think HTC has magically gotten better at securing their devices, to the point that the phone is now impossible to root. In particular, our device was rooted (1.73 firmware) something like 3 days after it was released, even with the locked bootloader and all the security that HTC could throw on it at the time. Its just my feeling that its really doubtful that HTC can go from that point, to making the device impossible to root in the matter of a few months..
Seen this new root method here on xda, any idea if compatible with our 1X?

how can I change unlocked to locked?

I found one stuck pixel in my one,I want to change it,but I unlocked my phone before.

If you rub the affected pixel with lots of love, it might change it's mind and become unstuck. =/..
Seriously though, I don't even understand what you're asking. Send it in for repair if it bothers you. Send it in for exchange. If you did some homework and searched the boards, you would have found plenty of possible solutions. As for the unlocked state, there are also guides and threads on getting you back to a "Relocked" status rather than "Unlocked". You can never get back to "Locked" unless you have S-OFF.

Rooted unlocked BL pixel UI stopped

Hi people. So I've unlocked and rooted my pixel(no twrp as yet) Now ever time the battery drops below 10 or 15% I get an error that unfortunately the UI had stopped.
Does anyone know what this issue could be and how to resolve it? I do remember reading something about exactly this when I was looking for rooting guides but I can't seem to find it anywhere now.
Help would be much appreciated.
Thank you
Found it in the XL form in case someone else is also having this issue

Please guide me...What is my first step? G955u1

I appreciate any help you experts can give... links and videos. I'm running out of time and don't have enough to research everything... so I hate asking but I have to... I leave in 4 days and this device is still in the box.
My trusty and loved Nexus 6 of 4 years finally burned its charging port out and until the Pixel 3 hits.. I bought an S8 Plus. The model I have is G955u1z an unlocked S8+ I picked up from Best Buy. I hate to admit it but its been so long since I've done any flashing /updating because I had my N6 so well tuned.. that I'm rusty and at a loss of where to begin. Yes I'm searching, yes I'm googling and youtubing but often I am finding methods that aren't for the unlocked version and I don't want to go from box to brick in 3 days. For reference this device will be hooked up to my Verizon account.. I'm still using my N6 for the moment (thankfully it has Qi.. which has kept me from upgrading to a new Nexus or Pixel since). I understand that I will loose Knox.. and Samsung pay. Had to find out what that even was but don't think i would use it anyway.
So what is my first step? Update to the latest stock rom? Install TWRP immediatly? I see that there is something new.. Magisk but I'm not fully grasping it I guess to know if its better than Su, but from what i gather you can hide root from apps with it? Advantages/Disadvanatages? I'm also a dedicated Xposed user also, so that is a must to have. I really prefer the stock android experience but it seems most run the Renovate Ice 3.0 rom? Is there a way to make the other speaker work instead of that downward firing single one? Gesture navigation from the Pixel?
Please pick through guys... if you can help with anything I am in your debt. Just bad luck/bad timing when I should be excited about a new shiny.
