Lg v20 vs995 update and keep root? - LG V20 Guides, News, & Discussion

I had soneone ask me is it possible to update to the latest firmware and keep root. I know we cant do it via OTA or use lgup to flash it in. Since we have twrp is there a way we can install a newer firmware to the v20 insted of being stuck between 10B to 13A as those are the firmware that can be rooted
One phone had it possible but i know Android above 6.0 are picky when it comes to a modded boot image my lg g3 was on 10B and someone made image files of the stock rom to be flashed via twrp of course it was kitkay that this was done from 10B to 12B

Crap didn't realize i was on the wrong thread mebt to post it in the questions section sorry for that

Stock Everything Stock

I don't understand these directions from the FAQ:
"Q. How to get back to stock? I need to give my phone to warranty services how do I revert to official LG rom?
A. Check this thread. It is the v10b 2.2 stock rom as a flashable zip package. If you can't access the recovery, then see if the firmware for your country is available here or use this tool. Download the firmware and use the KDZ tool to flash. You will find instructions to use the KDZ tool on this thread. For a picture guide, check this thread.
Also for official GB lovers, see this and this. It is a v20g rom in flashable zip package. Or if you'd rather flash v20c/g roms from LGMDP, the links for that can be found in this thread.
If you are on Optimus V, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1025911
If you are on the Optimus T, see this post. Uses the KDZ method.
Q. How do I restore the stock recovery?
A. Download the original recovery zip file from here and flash it. (Yes, you can flash a recovery from within recovery itself)"
I have LG P500 from USA T-Mobile. I'm on V20 Baseband.
1)Is kdz the only way to go back to stock?
2)Which way is the safer and better way to get back to stock?
3)How (full instructions) to get back to stock rom for USA T-Mobile?
4)How (full instructions) to get back to stock recovery for USA T-Mobile?
yes you can flash a recovery from recovery, if it is a flashable zip
you need to stick with your phone not other variants of LG p500, O-1(Europe), O-T or O-V, dunno what is the T-mobile USA version, but is it written inside your phone under battery
1) KDZ is for flashing software in your phone, but beware, if you are unexperienced you may brick your phone for good, but you can try it, DO NOT PULL OUT BATTERY OR DO SOMETHING WHILE KDZ IS NOT FINISHED FLASHING PHONE OR YOU WILL HARDBRICK IT (but, I do not think someone at service will notice that, after a hardbrick, it just went dead and nothing else, nobody knows nothing)
2)if you do not know what are you doing, nothing is safe, anyway, as I mentioned, a hardbrick is a hardbrick and if you still have warranty, you are lucky
3)http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1824618 search there
4) LG P500 doesn't have stock recovery(just bootloader)
if you do not know what to flash try to find a T-mobile rom image (MAKE A REQUEST-someone will post it), and first time when flashing a recovery is to backup original rom for what will come after
LGMDP will work like this, it upgrades rom when you have an older version, so try to flash an older custom rom, find an Froyo 2.2 and flash it as any custom rom, boot, conect your phone to PC, that means that you have LG USB drivers installed, start LGMDP and w8 to detect your phone, after that goto options & help, select country, carrier, phone, w8 to detect latest update, start update
in case that your phone is not detected, boot into recovery, goto mounts and mount USB, that will make LGMDP detect your phone, start updating

KDZ is generally discouraged . However if you can find a Nandroid back up of GB , then that would be the safest way . I went back to stock froyo with the help of this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1955354

Your have V20 that is new baseband so any rom from GingerBread onwards is good for you . Stock recovery can be flashed sitting right from custom recovery . Check out this thread for custom recovery and ROM of 2.3.3 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1309744 . If you wanna try lgmdp look at this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1324105

Lg g2 d80020k

So I just got a new AT&T LG G2 and it got updated to the newest version of the firmware which is the D80020k firmware. I wanted to root and install Mahdi rom but I cant get a custom recovery onto my phone because the firmware is not supported (trying to get TWRP). So now I am looking to see if I can revert my phone back to the D80010D firmware. But this is my dilemma. Is it safe to use LG FlashTool on D80020K firmware to go back to D80010D firmware?
Figured it out!
I am back on jellybean! I just took the risk and used LG Flash Tool....worked fine
Quick note: the latest firmware version is 20y (20k -> 20u -> 20y).
Even with 20y, you can still root and install TWRP recovery on it.
Anyway, you got everything under control. Congrats.

zv7 to zv9

I am currently on zv7 rooted (sprint)
what's the easiest way or if not, proper way, to go to zv 9 rooted?
do I have to go back to zv6 stock and update to 9, then root?
or can I flash a zv 9 rooted image over it?
please advise
well found the answer, not sure how to delete topic
You can't delete it. Why don't you share how you did it in case someone else is wondering the same thing.
okay I grabbed the stock image from here (im on zv7)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-flex2/general/return-to-stock-ls996-stock-img-t3217089
then I went to this post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-flex2/development/lg-g-flex-2-ls996-zv6-sprint-5-1-1-t3169212
that post is actually to root, but all you do is instead of flashing a rooted image, flash the stock image instead
after that, I let it get the OTA updates until I was zv9 (latest)
then I went back to that thread and did the same thing, except this time flash the rooted zv9 image
it was way more simpler than I thought. No reset needed and no data was lost

System.IMG update

I feel a little stupid asking this but it's been quite a while since I actually flashed an img.
Basically my question is, can I just flash a system.img instead of using ota updates?
I know I can use LG up to downgrade my firmware with a kdz but I haven't seen a kdz for the latest firmwares.

Yes You can flash system image but not messed up versions of it. Which version and which model You have?
I have h955, whenever I wipe I go back to 10B and just OTA update to 15C.
It takes about 90 mins to update and restore my apps, flashing a system.img will cut that time in half.

LG Stylo 3 Plus KDZ Firmware File

Had to restore my phone earlier today and was able to grab the KDZ file for the latest nougat update for the LG-M470 model. Roaming around noticed some people had said the original file/firmware wasn't out yet but I guess they are now.
Download for anyone who wants it:

Thanks techboy11 for the kdz file. Do you or anyone know how to extract the stock recovery from this? I would like to apply the OTA security updates, but it only works with the stock recovery and I currently have the TWRP recovery.
Thanks,
Johnny
