CM7 Kernel in the CM repository

The G2X kernel sources just hit the CM repository. I've built it, and with some munging, managed to get everything working except for the vibrator (including wireless! Finally!)
Good news.

Yay for Gingerbread!!!
That's good news. When you get the vibration to function maybe you can post it so we can try it out. Maybe we will see a release really soon.
Nice cm7 getting closer

Yah, well, I don't have one.
Just built the kernel. Happy about that, though.
What do we need to make the vibrator work?
Woohoo!! Anxiously awaiting CM7, the phone has so much potential... insta-drool!

Maybe the vibrator needs a new battery? LOL!
On a serious note, looks like once CM7 rolls out for the G2X we will be seing Google Talk Video Chat (Android 2.3.4). That's the one Google started rolling out for the Nexus S yesterday.

Don't know. The driver definitely works; I can manually turn on the vibrator in sysfs.

From what I've read the vibrator use proprietary drivers

Yup and they are there and they work and it's just that the LG version of Android (yuck) doesn't want to play with this kernel.

There is no way to just include those drivers?
What kind of problems will we run into by running a kernel less than 2.6.35? I'm assuming they are using the leaked LG Gingerbread rom V20f which is using a froyo kernel and once LG updates the kernel and releases the source with 2.6.35+, it'll be fairly easy to merge it into CM source right?

None... cm7 team will work with the froyo kernel and froyo user space drivers (since only froyo source and firmware are available right now). Several phones are in the same state such as desire HD,z,thunderbolt,mt4g etc. This is why cm7 team is so awesome, they can give you gingerbread with what's given. Now I kinda wish I have this phone

As I said, it is not source built. It is a modified JellyTime kernel to run android 4.3 ROMs (eventhough there are none atm).

Great! Eventhough I can't guarantee that my kernel will function correctly I hope I just sprung another spark on the porting of Cm10.2
Great, actually we have non-booting codefirex experimental nightlies 4.3, someone should give it a try.

Did you really do a great favor
Ok tried it with CFX 4.3 but seems it's not even booting.
I guess, @CedArctic, it's not as easy as it looks. huh?
EDIT: PC sorta recognizes it, but ADB reports device being offline.
This build (CFX 4.3) I can install it on my device ? Or he won't boot ?

What do you want, without kernel source?
And related to custom roms: Aren't there really cool mods already?
As 4.1.2 was out, first the mods where made, then, when enough mods are ready, the custom roms came.
Before the beginning of February we should not expect the appearance of the kernel source code for our model.

No way, no dev's.
You would either have to build from scratch or port it to our device. Cyanogenmod has some tutorials on how to port their materials. Neither is easy lol.

I - one of the developers of this kernel. The site htcdev.com not currently contains the kernel source version 4.2.2 for our phone. Presumably these source code will be available in late January. So - is not yet any developments from me and the people with whom I work.

cyanogenmod official builds

It looks like they've released a build for our device. I'm wondering if anyone is using it yet.

Moto X Pure Nougat Kernel Source Code Released

Link is here.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/0...-kernel-source-code-2015-moto-x-pure-edition/
Ironic that the Pure Nougat OTA update is nowhere in sight, but hopefully DEVS can use this to incorporate into their ROMS for the community.
WTH... haha...
Any idea when will custom ROMs apply this?
I'm afraid this doesn't bode too well for those waiting for the update. I'll be surprised though if there is an official update. :/ However, glad they released it now so that devs can take advantage of it.
Seems like they give up on the official update and released the source code for the dev community to do it instead...
Go home Motorola, you're drunk.

Will this be helpful in developing Nougat ROMs for Moto X Style too? Or Motorola has to release seperate kennel source for the style as well?
I think the article is misleading... The kernel source is for "Clark" but isn't that the Style too, and not just the Pure?

This is really good news. Doesn't say much for LG or former Motorola engineers , since they made the device.
Either way, I rather have the XDA community making an effort and seeing what they can accomplish. Thumbs up LG for releasing your latest foot print...looking forward to what XDA community can accomplish!

So what does that mean for normal user? Could camera2 api be enabled in the future?
I'm on the Style (XT1572) and finally got the OTA today, is it updating to Nougat right now. Funny thing is that today I was about to accept a deal with my local carrier for a Mate 9 LOL...maybe I should re-consider, btw I'm in Mexico.

Interesting... Thanks for keeping us in the loop on the rollout. It's been quiet lately on the forums on whether or not the rollout was still happening.
... especially when they had released the kernel source just yesterday. I was paranoid that the rollout stopped completely due to a massive bug / issue just discovered.

No, well, probably not... The kernel source is more of interest to developers of ROM's, they can implement the code into things like LineageOS, AICP, RezRemix, etc... and remove the "hybrid" code they have that is Marshmallow and Nougat combined. In theory, it should remedy some of the issues people have on Nougat custom ROMs.
Any idea of witch costum ROM has implemented this?

Lineage. But it's an experimental build. Not daily driver material yet.

Implementing new kernel source can be tricky sometimes, give it a couple weeks, then initial builds implementing it should start rolling out... Be aware that if you have not upgraded to stock Nougat yet, this could cause more problems than it fixes since ROMs will be expecting you to have a Nougat partition table and radios...
I would expect most well maintained ROMs to have it fully implemented within 60 days.
