Thanx for your answer!
I've never fully understand why major brand don't want to sell DSFA phone...
I'm quite happy with my ZTE u960 but I would like to know if there are other alternatives...
hi guys new to the forum ..im thinking of getting the note 12.2 and need to get an answer fairly quick as I need it soon..ive got the choice between the lte snapdragon and exynos..my main use of the tablet is sketching and painting..artrage has just been released for android so im fairly happy ..my partner has a note 3 neo and tried artrage and it wasn't bad ,but it had lag a lot of lag...out of the snap and exynos which would be better for my kind of use...if I go for wifi I can imagine easier to root than the lte....any help really appreciated
Snapdragon is more powerful, that's a given fact. The Exynos (p900) and the AT&T LTE (Only the AT&T, not the rest) versions also have serious blackscreen, screenflickering, reboot and bluescreen issues.
I never new about so many problems..so what version would you say to get ..im unsure what to do now..
I made the same consideration when I got mine. Given all the problems, and the fact that I needed a powerful tablet for my uses, I went with a P905 (the international LTE version) because it's more powerful and more stable.
If you can spare the extra cash, the LTE edition (Provided it's not the AT&T one) is the best option.
thx for the info..so p905 ill look for ..do the lte versions get the latest updates like the wifi ones..thats what Im worried about and also is it true they cant be rooted

Latest update for the P905 is from November.
Towelroot works properly on everything but the newest firmware out of the box. To root the newest you may need to temporarily load an older image of the kernel, but some also report success straight away. Or, if you don't care about the KNOX counter, you can use CF Autoroot.
I am planning to get SGS7, NOT Edge version. I kinda hate it actually. HEre is my question. Is bootloader unlocked ? Cause I can't live without my CM13. And if So May be you guys can recommend Snapdragon 820 based Phone that can run homebrew roms. Right now I am on OP2 and I simply can't handle it anymore after 5 minutes in any game phone slowing down to around 10 FPS, unplayable condition.
Thank you in advance.
The bootloader is currently not unlockable on the Snapdragon 820 version. On the Exynos version, root and (I think) TWRP is available, but definitely no CM support.
Bottom line, this isn't the device for you if you want CM13

Thank you very much for your answer. I also looking into upcoming HTC M10 and LG G5, what do you know / think of them ?
Thank you once again !
Check the Cyanogenmod website to see if your (future) device is supported by CM.
Currently the S7 (Edge) are not supported, but that's just a matter of time.
Galaxy S7 has so far the best camera ever Samsung has introduced. Being Water-resistant is an additional advantage for that people like it, awesome battery and Gear VR system as well. who use a costly phone like a crap.
Hi, I am just not getting it. Spent money on two phones to see if I can unlock and root them, and it is not my forte! Don't even know where to start because there is just too much information out there when I search online.
Is there anywhere I can just buy a rooted device, or pay someone to do it. Since every search on the Internet leads back to this site I thought I should ask it here. If I am in wrong section please let me know.
Thank you
As you want to root your phone, I'm assuming you know how a phone works and how to differentiate models and variants!
You can't buy an already rooted phone, as none come with it. If you want a phone that is easy to root but still good for a daily driver, you have to know the following criteria:
- Very popular brand (Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo)
- Has to have a Snapdragon processor (mediatek phones are harder to root)
- The specific device should be popular on XDA (examples include Redmi Note 8 Pro, Poco X3 Pro, most samsung S devices that have Snapdragon processors)
- Samsung S (s22, s20, s8, etc) only have Snapdragon CPUs in countries like the USA and I think China

yeah, but if you buy a oneplus don't get anything above the 8 lineup as they just get worse from there
and if you get a pixel 6 series i can't guarantee anything about that tensor chip being even bootloader unlockable

recipy for DISASTER. don't buy a pre rooted phone, who knows what keyloggers and spyware can be put alongside that root? i wouldn't risk it at all, in fact i wouldn't buy any daily driver thing from ebay outside of like a phone case
Thank you for the replies. I will keep reading and researching. I bought a Motorola G Stylus (2021) just now, and gave up on the Samsung s10e. So far I have been able to get adb and fastboot working. Reading on XDA to figure the rest out.
Very popular brands (Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Huawei, etc) tend to lock down their devices entirely. one can't just unlock bootloader from fastboot. beware of random guides, they often outdated or too broad.
before buying a device
- get confirmation that bootloader actually is unlockable (with regards to android version/carrier/branding etc)
- check community development is active (TWRP available? custom ROMs?)
you can do so by reading the proper section to device model on xda-developers
(if you can't find it, don't buy it)

about every phone is on xda, just that many don't have populated Roms and Kernels sections (ie: huaweis) so make sure it has 7-10.000 messages at least if you want a really good starting point
Nobody should buy an already rooted phone.
You should ever re-flash the full stock, format data and then, re-root the phone by YOURSELF.

Hi, do you have any specific model you can suggest? Considering the following:
I want to buy an android that I can root for sure, no matter how old it is as long as it runs Android 6 at least, I need it to be as cheap as possible, and I want to buy it in USA, compatible with T-Mobile carrier which is the one I use
I bought this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B3F9BRF9 and it was compatible with TMobile but there's no TWRP or info on how to root it, so I'm seeking for some old phone that actually works and is rooteable. I want to run some experiments but I need root access.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: I found several Samsung S7 on Ebay that could work, do you think it's a good match for rooting?

No, I don't. I only know that OnePlus Oppo Realme devices belong to bbk and are hard to unlock with fastboot disabled.

Xiaomi devices are still unlockable, but you have to follow special procedure, and it doesn't work for blacklisted devices.

what I have heared about Samsung, unlocking is not officially supported for US/Canada devices. also branded devices like cricket, verizon, etc aren't unlockable

move it to the pc
flash it with odin

There are channels to buy pre-rooted phones, but I assume that we are not supposed to publish these things on XDA.
Veterans of XDA and Samsung mobiles, please help!
I got myself a Note 20 Ultra 5G today! The model number is shown as SM-986U/DS. I searched and one site showed it's the Exynos model, whereas CPU-Z showed that it's the Snapdragon one!
Did I just buy a fake one? Please help me to find id it is an original one! The Store I bought this from, told me that it came from US but while the phone started, it did not show any US Carrier logo (like T-Mobile, Verizone etc.)
I am attaching the screenshots of About Phone page, please advise me if I need to post any other pictures for clarification! I suppose the IMEI is not necessary, right?
Please help and thanks in advance!!!
that model is for snapdragon variant, to check if device is fake or not plug it into pc and open smart switch, this will read the device info, if it does is real if not, must be fake
Thank you!!
Please give me some time to check it and then reply!
Thanks again!

@EdwardSawhands
As mentioned by @tutibreaker, it's indeed a genuine US Snapdragon variant of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G. However, there are some points you might need to consider.
To be precise, it's a carrier model meant for Verizon, which has probably been SIM-unlocked for usage under other carriers. As you can see, the device is running on Android 12-based One UI 4.1. Without a Verizon SIM, you can't get OTA updates on it. As a result, it would be better for you to cross-flash a carrier-unlocked (i.e. SM-N986U1) firmware manually. That way, not only you can experience One UI 5 with Android 13 right now, you can also get rid of the underlying Verizon bloat and enjoy official OTA updates without messing with manual flashing jobs.
Well, thanks for pointing that out! I was really thinking why it was on Android 12 as I heard that 20 Ultra hot Android 13 and also there was no update showing...
I will take some time and read around the forum to get the cross flashing process right!
One more thing, there are actually no Verizone Bloats on the mobile. At least none thay I've found out yet. May be the guy who sim unlocked it, uninstalled all that. Anyway, I'll cross flash it once I figure out the process. Thanks again.
