The nougat kernel super easy to modify - T-Mobile LG V10 General

Just wanted to let developers know that I had been trying to modify the v10 kernel to include external USB wifi adapter support on previous versions lollipop and marshmallow with no success. But with nougat I was able to do it. Which means I was able to chroot kali and utilize monitor mode on my USB wifi adapter. Just thought that anyone that would care about this would like to know.

Well load us up a zip. The wifi chip is out on my phone lol

And what exactly can we achieve with this, because I'm trying to root my H901 TMobile and there is no root available yet.

Any idea with that OTA update does?

HI guys, just wondering if anyone knows with that firmware update does. I've searched and it seems like not a whole lot of people know but are updating anyway. I'm sort of reluctant on installing it because I plan to root and use a custom ROM when the dev teams catch up.
After using MIUI on the N1, I'm not too impressed with the performance with this phone, but I know the potential is much higher with the gen 2 snapdragon, more ram, and internal storage. I can't wait to see what people cook up for this phone.
Anyhow, if anyone finds out that this update will be a headache later for rooting and custom ROM purposes please chime in.
Thanks!

I remember on the G1 we had to flash with an older factory rom to root. Wouldn't the same thing be possible with the MT4G even if the update doesn't allow root?

I remember doing that with my G1 too, and I'd rather avoid that extra step.
This update was mainly to improve Qik reliability and choppyness. This from the head of HTC Northeast, who randomly walked into the Tmo store while I was there.

No - newer HTC devices check both the signature and version. So, no downgrades will be possible unless an exploit is found that allows us to bypass these checks.
Also there were kernel changes AFAIK. This is pretty evident in the performance of the device... the update contains the full production firmware, they launched with development release onboard
Also the update brought tmo the ability to control tethering...

I had the same thoughts. I remember thinking that it would probably be easier to root later on without that update, but the popup wouldn't go away. Oh well...

Yeah I heard they're going to charge for tethering now. F that!
15 dollars... only if you use native tethering on stock Rom... they shouldn't be able to stop or charge 3rd party tethers or fully rooted phones

How will they be able to control tethering on the native tethering phones, and will the temp rooted devices still be able to tether if they have the Recent ROM update?

Please do not flame this noob question

I think I am going to pull the trigger and purchase the GS4G. From all that I have read it seems to be an excellent device and will only be outdone by the dual core phones coming later this year (bionic, atrix, Galaxy S2). I currently own the original pre 3.5mm headphone jack MyTouch 3g. I rooted a year ago and have been running custom roms. I love the things that I can do, but am frustrated by two things. 1) my phone is obsolete and does not run froyo without massive lag. 2) the stability of custom roms can be frustrating.
I want this phone, partially because I can root and eventually run custom roms on it, when I get bored with the stock ROM. (will not get a motorola phone because of the locked boot loader)
Here is my noob question, does using the super one click method of rooting install a less stable version OS or does it just reinstall the same OS with superuser permissions? A semi-technical explanation of what rooting does would be appreciated.
Will rooting also unlock hotspot and wifi tethering?
Sorry for the dumb questions. I can follow directions on how to do things, but I am not a programmer.

this. rooting in itself just gives you superuser permissions. When ROMs come out for the SGS4g you can then change the "software"

we need to get CWM working before we can install custom roms. hopefully the wait will not be as long.
To answer your question rooting does not install a less stable OS. Really the only thing you will notice different is that you will have a superuser app in your app drawer and you will be able to use root apps. Yes it will enable you to download a wireless teather app which requires root, type android wifi teather into your google search and it will be the first option called google host project. All your android wifi teather downloads are in there.
Mobile AP works perfect too. No need to download a third party app.

I can confirm this. So to answer your question in short, yes, rooting will allow you to tether, no need for a custom rom just yet.

8.1 Oreo Broken Tethering

Ok guys so I was on pure Nexus forever and decided to finally upgrade. I upgraded to fire hound only to find out tethering via WiFi and USB is broken. I have FoxFi and pda and even they are borked. I added the usual tethering=true line to the build prop and no dice. I flashed the tethering module with magisk, no dice.
Is this a rom issue or a known Oreo issue? Keep in mind I have natural 4g tethering in my TMobile plan by the way. I've been away a long time so please excuse my ignorance.
I have no problem tethering with the latest stock image.

A stock image is not a custom "room".
Lol I meant rom. I may go back stock and see what's up. This is definitely annoying. My xl is still on pure Nexus because of stuff like this.

Install Life is Strange on Fire OS 5.6.2.0

Hi guys, I would like to try and play the android port of Life is Strange on my Fire HD 10. The problem is, that the game requires android 6/ marshmallow as the minimum OS. As you know the Fire HD 10 can't go beyond Android 5.x, so I thought about rooting it and changing the build.prop file and make my device appear to be another version and hope that that works... but is it even possible to root Fire OS 5.6.2.0 ? And if yes, do you think it would work that way or I might at least be able to install the game? Or is there a way to install this game for android 6 on the Fire without root ? That would be my most prefered choice at least
Looking forward to get some of your guys thoughts on this !

A few on here have confirmed that rooting 5.6.2.0 works. Might just take a few tries. As far as that a particular game I have not a clue, it might require some features in mm that lt simply doesn't have. There is a likely a very good reason for the minimum os limitation they put on it.

Thanks for your reply! Could rooting the HD 10 cause apps to stop working, because they detect root ? Or will still all apps from the PlayStore work ? (assuming I'd actually manage to sucessfully root on 5.2.6.0)
btw I have the 2017 version if that matters, which guide would I have to follow if I wanna root it ? Can I use the guide for the 2016 one aswell or do I have to use a specific one for 2017 and if so which one ?
Thank you in advance!

There are a few apps out there that won't run if they detect root, but the majority of apps from the play store still work.
I have the 2017 HD 10 and this guide has always worked for me to root:

Yeah I rooted it already and everything is working fine so far, except I still can't play the game sadly. Kinda sucks that the fire is stuck at android 5.1... makes me wonder if I should rather have bought the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 which is very similiar spec wise but runs Marshmallow. Well, I haven't yet given up yet, I still think there must be a way, I just don't know which. I tried modifying the apk and chaning my fire's build.prop and that way I could actually press on "install" regarding the apk, but then I got another error, so I am as far as I was before. :crying:

Is there any way/possibility to bring back bluez stack to android >= 9.0?

been having bluetooth connectivity problem with legacy ps3 controller aka "dualshock 3" with android 9 phone(no problem connected via usb),
all guides/documentations related needed the bluez stack that google was ditched since android 4/5 to work with,
the 'bring back bluez to android project' was stopped at the lollipop stage as well, no documentation can be found for porting back bluez to android 9/above, and no bluedroid/fluoride solution can be found, the only related app "sixaxis controller" not working as well.
am just an programming amateur with just limited knowledge, it's hard for me to work it out.
hereby, am begging for any master/sifu can spare some of your precious time to look into this matter or point me some direction to study/fix it, thanks for your kindness.

Sixaxis should work for you then.
https://profandroid.com/network/bluetooth/connect-to-ps3.html
But, you need to use an app called "Sixaxis Compatibility checker" first, it will tell you if your phone is compatible.
If you already tried these methods and they didn't work, you are doing something wrong. Try again but take it one step at a time. If you have problems, tell me what problem you are having.

Does the Sixaxis Compatibility app confirm that your device is actually compatible? If it doesn't, it probably won't work no matter what you do. Some devices just don't support it.
