Gear S2 Vibrating & Notification Issues.

Anyone else not getting the vibration when a notification comes in on the gear S2? Mine won't vibrate all the time. At first I had always on screen set to on and I never got a notification. I shut it off and started getting them. Now I'm not getting just the vibration. But if I swipe to the side the notifications are there. Non Samsung phone. 
It seems like the watch when the screen is off goes into a sleep mode and doesnt wake up for the notification. What gives?

Had two random reboots today and the screen froze up as well. This POS is going back to best buy. Samsung cant get there **** together.

Always on mode doesnt work at all. Watch goes to sleep it seems and doesnt wake up with notifications. This is overall junk.

I had the exact same issue. The vibration issue coupled with a battery that went from 100% to 0% in less than 5 hours, normal use.
I have 12 days to return. I hope Samsung pushes an update within 12 days. I really like the hardware and UI, but it's just so damn buggy.

I have no such issues you guys are describing. I have a black S2. It's paired to a Galaxy S6 Edge.

If I don't have the always on clock showing on the watch I will not get any notification. Using it with a One Plus 2. If the screen is on I will get nothing. The screen has to be off and in the always on mode or else it doesnt work. I just got a email and my watch did ****. I hate this ****ing ****.

i have no issue with my watch not vibrating at least not as far as i know.
i was just wondering if i can change vibration patterns. i know i can change the strength but the quick 3 times vibration is a bit annoying. i would like to change it so something else.
also the vibration on AW was better in my opinion because it resembled the pattern that was set on the phone for that specific notification

The only thing you can change about vibration, in addition to off/weak/strong, is long buzz or not.

Wait .. is the gear s2 screen supposed to turn on and show a preview of the notification when you get one?
My s2 has simply been vibrating when a notification comes in and there is no change on the screen. I thought that was normal and also thought it was a silly way to design it
If i get a notification right now, I need to wake up the watch, swipe to the left screen and then click it to show details - a lot of moves

You have to set that in the settings.

yeah that's right isn't it. i got the same settings. hopefully there will be more options in a future update

My S2 will vibrate and light up (turned that on in settings) for incoming Texts and Phone Calls every time.
BUT for all other notifications it will not. When I get Google Now alerts or score updates from the ESPN app nothing happens. I am using the Modern face with one of the complications set to Notifications, and that will show me that I do have notifications but what use is that? Unless I look at the watch face to see the time I will never know I received these notifications. If I get a notifications I would like for it to alert me with a vibration. Every time, of all apps I choose.
Does this with a Sony Z3 Compact as well as a Xiaomi Mi4c both running 5.1.1.

This watch is a bust because I tested mine with my moto 360 2nd gen. The Gear S2 didnt get all notification if the screen was off. If it was showing the always on clock it would vib and show. Samsung needs to fix this ASAP. This is a watch that needs to tell me every notification I want.

Have you tried a Light or Factory reset of your S2? That fixed it for me, that or reinstalling the Gear app. I did both so, can't actually confirm which did it. Not having any problems getting all notifications.

I think you need and easy button, or try setting,if you can't find it , I can't help you

I have two of these and both do the same. Won't get notifications if the screen is off and not showing the always on clock. Using it with a note 5.

i have another issue. dont know it its the watch or the gear manager app. i wont get notifications for specific apps. the checkmark in the gear app wont stick. e.g. the greader app. also there are not all apps found in the gear manager app. does anyone know why thats so. for example the chrome app does not show in in notifications in the gear app.

I have done both as well as switched phones and started from scratch. No notification vibration for anything but Text's and Phone Calls.

Is there a solution for this, or does my watch have to go back to the store. I'm "upgrading" from a pebble, but if I can't get a vibration to notify me of a new email, then it's a non-starter. It seems to me that I get vibrations for notifications on apps that were set up by default. But I'm not getting vibrations on any additional (third party) apps. I use e-notify and aquamail, none of these vibrate on notification. I saw on another forum that the phone must be set to vibrate for it to work, but I've tried this, and still nothing.

Is there a program that will allow me to get reminders? I use Touchdown as my regular calendar and I think I can use my Samsung calendar just for reminders but can't get S Voice to work from the GS2. Google Reminders is the best thing going. Of course, I can't feel the viberation but...

Gear S2 notification issues??

I have a new Galaxy Gear s2 and the Note 4 for At&t....im not new to the smart watch scene and have set it up correctly.....I get about 50% of my notifications on my watch....I hear my phone notification for new email, and wait to get it on my watch and get nothing...but sometimes I do get the notification on my watch...its so erratic...sometimes I get them and sometimes I don't...is this normal? if so its annoying.

Same here had it for two weeks tmobile note 5 and for some reason I factory reset my phone and watch for better performance and now I hardly get any notifications

Make sure the option to ignore notifications while phone is awake is not selected. Can't remember exactly where I found it but that was my problem when I first got my watch.

Didn't fix the issue for. Me =/ I hope we get a software update soon

Same here. Option to ignore disabled, but it doesnt push notifications correctly. Sometimes they arrive some minutes later...

settings are all correct....I'm really starting to hate this watch...

There is option called limited notification, untick that.
Make sure you have selected all apps that you need notification.

I had the watch for 4 days and reset it about three or four times but could never get the notifications to work like they should. I would get some and not get others. All the setting were right. I finally returned it today. Mine was from Verizon. I really loved the watch but the main reason I got it from Verizon was the speaker and to see notifications on my watch when I drive. I found myself having to look at my phone about as much as I looked at my watch.

That's weird, the notifications on my watch actually alert me before my phone does. If not before then they both alert me at the same time with my Note 5.

I decided to go back to Verizon and try another watch and the second one is working near perfect. It has not missed a single notification, knock on wood. It seems the first one was bad. I should have know when I had to reset it almost immediately when the heart rate monitor and steps would not function. So far so good with the new one.

Hate to say but paired to my iphone I get all notifications without any problem,except that I lost bluetooth connection a few times.

I had some notification issues over the network. Make sure you setup notifications proper in both the Samsung Gear app and the app itself (ie email). To solve my notification issues over the network in remote connection mode I had to "reinstall" the Samsung gear app which also forced my watch to do a light reset. See my post over in Connection modes for more details.

To bump this up, I have the same problem. Slow notifications regularly, no notifications at all when the phone is charging. I have disabled the option to not show notifications when the phone is active and no change. It's the only grip I have with the watch

I get 98% of the notifications so no big deal for me,but the only app that I don't get notification on the watch is YouTube

Ive got the GW4 46mm BT classic paired with a Note20U both up to date , woke up this morning after watch been fine for a week and put my watch on but no notifications coming thru to the watch did quick restart on both no go.
Reset the watch and only some notifications come thru no email or texts tho whatsapp is ok , checked settings nothing has changed.
Uninstalled galaxy gear app and reset watch still the same missing certain notifications even tho they are ticked .
Watch is set to show even if phone is open.
Any ideas ?

You may need to turn on notifications for the specific apps in the wearable app. I had to do this as I was getting no notifications for any apps.

I've checked all the settings and all ticked . Emaids via the Samsung app now work but texts messages have now stopped showing on the watch even tho notification is ticked !!!

As I never had this problem with the old generation watch I got before (Gear S3 running Tizen), I think we have just to wait for the 1st product OS update.
Youth problems are common on first releases. I hope first OTA will fix this annoying problem.

Same here. Text messages and phone calls appear fine. WhatsApp is a hit and miss, sometimes pops up, sometimes just silently shows the notification dot.
In general, regardless of this bug, notification management on this watch is a mess, very poor user experience.
Some things I noticed:
1. If you're driving with Android Auto, it's impossible to respond or take action on a notification on your watch. Anything you click on (such as 'Delete' on an email notification or 'Mark as Read' on a text message) seemingly registers on the watch but the notification persists and no action is taken.
2. The notification indicator is useless if you have the watch set to wake up the screen when you get a notification. Basically it wakes up the screen to display the notification and from that point on it's considered 'read' so the indicator won't appear, even if you didn't actually look at it. They should've had an option to show the indicator while you have uncleared notifications.
3. Multiple notifications from the same app require you to click on a tiny number icon at the bottom of the notification. Inconvenient. (Think when you have multiple WhatsApp messages from different contacts).
4. Looking at a notification screen gives you no indication of whether or not you have other notifications, you have to try to swipe left to check.
5. To clear a notification while it's open -- you either have to click 'back' to the main notification screen and then swipe up or scroll all the way down to find the 'clear' button -- which sometimes isn't there and you have to click on 'More...' first. How about just allowing me to swipe to dismiss it after reading it?!
They'e put a lot of emphasis on health, but given very little thought about the basics.

I can only confirm and complain that I get 0 notifications from Whatsapp even though I've checked all the notifiation settings multiple times. Also even though I've got the wear os version of telegram installed, the telegram notifications I get are standard notifications that can't show e.g. pictures or voice messages.

It was working fine when I got it on tuesday. It even worked fine after the "day 1 OTA". And now I get nothing at all. Tried everything from granting more permissions to the Watch4 Plugin or disabling battery optimization and stuff. Restarted both devices a lot. It just stopped working. I am glad I am not the only one...

An update for you mine started getting notifications texts,Samsung emails etc . Gmail shows randomly but no vibrate or sound on Gmail other notification have this ,
I don't have a clue whats changed to fix this I already had OTA just woke up a few days ago and they were working phone was upstairs watch downstairs overnight ?!?

Weird... well I guess I have to wait. lol

Update from me as well. I turned off both phone and watch and turned them back on together after a few minutes. I don't know why it works but it does.
Edit: Nvm it worked for like one notification and then it stopped working again...

Restarting both devices helped me.

I played around with a bit more. Restarting both devices helps...for a while. As soon as the watch reconnects to the phone (i.e. you move too far from your phone) it stops working. Very annoying still.

I'm has been fine since it started working last week had few disconnects while walking away from phone but coming back in to range and its reconnects fine and notifications a work .
It does repeat whatsapp messages that I previously read and gmail still not vibtrate of sound ,

I have the impression that all the notifications work fine now: Gmail, WhatsApp, Nuki, telegram, Smartthings, messages, Gtask.
Hope it will stay ok.
Mean reason for me is having phone on silence but I can see notifications on watch.
Btw the watch 4 classic is a real beast.

What version of plugin do you have?
I still have no gmail vibrate.

General Have watch week and few questions issues

Ok using the watch pass few days and few questions. I am not using a Samsung phone (OP 7pro) and on android 11 and watch software up to date
Notifications are sporadic. I am not getting notified by noise or vibration on watch for some WhatsApp and gmails? I have them set up as allowed in notifications on wear app. I have 3 Gmail accounts set up but seem to only get notifications for one assigned to Samsung account?
Also, not fitness freak but does the watch auto detect say when you go for a walk/run? It seems to kick in when I am 5 minutes into the walk/run, well that’s when I get notified?
Also have display set to Raise wrist to wake but this is also sporadic and sometimes I have to touch the screen for it to wake
Battery seems to be fine and have not tested voice calls on watch yet but not missed any calls yet while phone in pocket
Anyone has same issues and any way they sorted it other than turning it on and off

So does it count these 10 mins or does a 30 minute run only record as 20 minute?

Yes records from start.

Notifications especially from Gmail are flakey at best and that's with a Samsung phone, started to use Samsung email app and works fine.

Yeah seems Samsung email app only works on Samsung phones
K3 email what is that? or any other email app that works with phone for notifications or I can try?

I think it's a Wear OS 3 problem and not a Samsung one

@funkyirishman , for the notifications, I had to go on the watch to the very bottom of the notifications settings, and tap "Show on Phone". Many of my phone's apps were toggled off including Gmail.
It's been much better after that.

Question AOD Freeze solution?

Hi, i got the watch yesterday. I updated it and started to notice that all 3rd party face apps ( watchmaker, facer, etc) freezes while on AOD. Minutes just don't move until I awake the watch. Also the usual ways to awake don't work reliably... only the ugly-childish samsung provided faces work as they should.
I have searched and it seems I'm not the only one and it's an update "feature"... So it seems it's not a faulty watch.
It's there any workaround to this?
I have been long gone from smartwatches. Can we rollback?

I've noticed the same thing since the latest big update. I have to tap multiple times to get the AOD to change to the actual watchface. Using Watchmaker Premium myself. It's quite annoying. Hopefully we'll get some kind of fix soon.

Same problem here. For now, I'm avoiding AOD on Facer, etc.
I highly doubt AMOLED anti-burn-in is active when the screen is frozen like that. So, better safe than sorry I guess.

I really hope they fix this soon. It is destroying my enjoyment of this device.... the recent update ruined it. I never know what the time is now, and sometimes I have to press the screen or button and wait several SECONDS for it to wake up and respond. This morning I pressed it about 10 times in a futile attempt to "unfreeze" the AOD display.

If you have a Samsung Galaxy Watch 4
and 3rd party Watchmaker app installed
there is a workaround.
Wearable app/Settings /Apps /Watchmaker..... enable "allow background activity"
Been using AOD for few days like this AID working ok like this.

I finished the EVB4 update.
When I go into those settings, I see the "allow background activity" setting, but it is off and greyed out for Watchmaker, so it cannot be turned on. It can be turned on for OTHER apps, though. I tried to force stop Watchmaker, made no difference. Not sure what to do...
UPDATE: Ug, after I force-stopped Watchmaker in the attempt to allow that setting, I lost all my WM faces on the watch AND on the phone. And I don't think I have a backup for the one I use daily and heavily customized (Pulsar Neo). So I rebooted both and then have the watch face back on the watch, but it is not showing in the phone app. Checked version of WatchMaker, it is 7.2.7 (I noticed in your screenshot yours is 7.2.8, but there are no updates for WatchMaker, I just checked on Play). Checked app settings, still unable to allow background activity.

firstly ,im on the beta version of Watchmaker
Sorry about watchfaces you lost .
Here's a tip for securing watchfaces ......
(this is what i do .)
On my phone Watchmaker app /My Watches /select you watch face etc /select Export
You will on pop up notification location where you "backup " is stored .
On my phone i use Total Commander ,file manager ,(free version )
Total Commander - file manager - Apps on Google Play
Android version of the desktop file manager Total Commander (www.ghisler.com).
play.google.com
i will then, via Total Commander ,go to my internal storage /Android/data/watchfrenzy/ files /export .....and copy my exported watchfaces from Android data to a safe loacation ...eg laptop ,external hardrive .
If you delete /lose you watchface all you have to do is copy them back to Android/data watchfrenzy/files/export and import into app .
Further tip you can also do this with fonts ...copy .ttf fonts into the fonts folder .

I see some of my watch apps is greyed out ,some is showing ....some greyed out ?
Not sure why ?
Personally, i think the buggy Samsung watch update has something to do with it ?
as not all my watch installed apps are showing on Watchmaker .
eg .Previously my sideloaded Google Assistant ,showed up in Watchmaker
app ,now it does not ...yet in the Samsung Stock watched /apps shortcut ,
it still shows !

I have no problem exporting or importing from the WatchMaker app, the problem was that it had no faces in it. They were still on the watch, but not the phone. From what I can tell, there is no way to suck them back off the watch. But your tips will be handy for others! I only wish I had exported them before they were lost (only 1 matters to me, and I have re-created it).
How did you obtain the beta (and why did you)? It sounds interesting, although I doubt the version is the cause of my problem, since I have seen other users' screenshots with using the same version as I am but without the greyed out button. Are you using a Samsung phone with Android12?
One thing I haven't tried is removing and re-installing WatchMaker. I wonder if that would matter?

So as I'm overall a Android Themer (at heart) wherever it's KLWP theming or Samsung Theme Park or Watchmaker etc
i will join /subscribe to beta versions.
I agree with you, that the beta or stable versions, is not the cause.!
I cannot advise you to uninstall and install Watchmaker................ but personally i would
have tried it.!
(I would have kept my favorite watchfaces safely in another folder to copy/import back. into Watchmaker.
When the latest Wear O S broke 3rd party, Watch theme apps
I was totally lost without, my favorite Watchmaker creation, working correctly in AOD mode.
Just to note....
I've noticed that some of the apps that i cannot toggle is a mixed between system apos and 3rd party apps.
And again.... some if those that i can toggle
is also a mix of system and 3rd party apps.

I now know what others were talking about when it comes to the AOD and display brightness problem with this last update. Another aspect of just how totally Samsung ruined AOD with the last update.
I was a passenger in a dark car. My AOD watch face was way too bright in ambient mode- and very distracting. I would try to wake it up, which could take pressing a button several times and waiting. Once it woke up, it immediately adjusted the ambient brightness correctly for the dark setting. But 30 seconds later, when it went to ambient mode, back to high brightness again. And it would stay that way. Just for giggles, I tried several other watch faces, including the stupid Samsung ones (that we can't uninstall). Every single one of them did the same thing.
Interestingly, I got so angry, I rebooted the watch,and then it started acting normally again, even with my WatchMaker face. How long would that last? I can't say. But it did at least for that night. (I don't often wear the watch at night).

Seems kinda random. I just rebooted now it because it was driving me crazy. First time I pressed the lower button, it took 9 seconds to respond. Second time 8 seconds. Then later, it was instant. Maddening. What is taking Samsung so long to react to this??

OK, it has been several days since the April R870XXU1FVC8 update. Ever since, I have no longer experienced the problem with the AOD ambient mode freezing (not updating time/display), nor the problem with AOD ambient display ignoring wakeup (press button, touch, etc has long delay before waking). So I might regret saying it, but I think it might actually be fixed in the update.
The one remaining AOD problem seems to be it gets confused with the auto-brightness. When awake, the brightness seems to always be correct. But sometimes it doesn't update brightness correctly when entering ambient mode or while in ambient mode. It requires waking the watch and then it immediately corrects the display brightness.
So, finally, my watch is a watch again.

No update for over 6 weeks for my sim-free LTE Watch 4. The AOD screen update issue continues. Have any other LTE owners had the update that fixes this?

New watch 4 classic owner here (on verizon). I'm still having issues with the display freezing even after allowing background activity for watchmaker. Sometimes it works, sometimes the faces freeze for 30 seconds or so before updating and starting to show the seconds hand.
Anyone else still having issues or have another solution?

Well that would explain it I'll rock it with AOD off for now and hope the LTE update drops soon.
