Gear S2 Vibrating & Notification Issues.

Anyone else not getting the vibration when a notification comes in on the gear S2? Mine won't vibrate all the time. At first I had always on screen set to on and I never got a notification. I shut it off and started getting them. Now I'm not getting just the vibration. But if I swipe to the side the notifications are there. Non Samsung phone. 
It seems like the watch when the screen is off goes into a sleep mode and doesnt wake up for the notification. What gives?

Had two random reboots today and the screen froze up as well. This POS is going back to best buy. Samsung cant get there **** together.

Always on mode doesnt work at all. Watch goes to sleep it seems and doesnt wake up with notifications. This is overall junk.

I had the exact same issue. The vibration issue coupled with a battery that went from 100% to 0% in less than 5 hours, normal use.
I have 12 days to return. I hope Samsung pushes an update within 12 days. I really like the hardware and UI, but it's just so damn buggy.

I have no such issues you guys are describing. I have a black S2. It's paired to a Galaxy S6 Edge.

If I don't have the always on clock showing on the watch I will not get any notification. Using it with a One Plus 2. If the screen is on I will get nothing. The screen has to be off and in the always on mode or else it doesnt work. I just got a email and my watch did ****. I hate this ****ing ****.

i have no issue with my watch not vibrating at least not as far as i know.
i was just wondering if i can change vibration patterns. i know i can change the strength but the quick 3 times vibration is a bit annoying. i would like to change it so something else.
also the vibration on AW was better in my opinion because it resembled the pattern that was set on the phone for that specific notification

The only thing you can change about vibration, in addition to off/weak/strong, is long buzz or not.

Wait .. is the gear s2 screen supposed to turn on and show a preview of the notification when you get one?
My s2 has simply been vibrating when a notification comes in and there is no change on the screen. I thought that was normal and also thought it was a silly way to design it
If i get a notification right now, I need to wake up the watch, swipe to the left screen and then click it to show details - a lot of moves

You have to set that in the settings.

yeah that's right isn't it. i got the same settings. hopefully there will be more options in a future update

My S2 will vibrate and light up (turned that on in settings) for incoming Texts and Phone Calls every time.
BUT for all other notifications it will not. When I get Google Now alerts or score updates from the ESPN app nothing happens. I am using the Modern face with one of the complications set to Notifications, and that will show me that I do have notifications but what use is that? Unless I look at the watch face to see the time I will never know I received these notifications. If I get a notifications I would like for it to alert me with a vibration. Every time, of all apps I choose.
Does this with a Sony Z3 Compact as well as a Xiaomi Mi4c both running 5.1.1.

This watch is a bust because I tested mine with my moto 360 2nd gen. The Gear S2 didnt get all notification if the screen was off. If it was showing the always on clock it would vib and show. Samsung needs to fix this ASAP. This is a watch that needs to tell me every notification I want.

Have you tried a Light or Factory reset of your S2? That fixed it for me, that or reinstalling the Gear app. I did both so, can't actually confirm which did it. Not having any problems getting all notifications.

I think you need and easy button, or try setting,if you can't find it , I can't help you

I have two of these and both do the same. Won't get notifications if the screen is off and not showing the always on clock. Using it with a note 5.

i have another issue. dont know it its the watch or the gear manager app. i wont get notifications for specific apps. the checkmark in the gear app wont stick. e.g. the greader app. also there are not all apps found in the gear manager app. does anyone know why thats so. for example the chrome app does not show in in notifications in the gear app.

I have done both as well as switched phones and started from scratch. No notification vibration for anything but Text's and Phone Calls.

Is there a solution for this, or does my watch have to go back to the store. I'm "upgrading" from a pebble, but if I can't get a vibration to notify me of a new email, then it's a non-starter. It seems to me that I get vibrations for notifications on apps that were set up by default. But I'm not getting vibrations on any additional (third party) apps. I use e-notify and aquamail, none of these vibrate on notification. I saw on another forum that the phone must be set to vibrate for it to work, but I've tried this, and still nothing.

Is there a program that will allow me to get reminders? I use Touchdown as my regular calendar and I think I can use my Samsung calendar just for reminders but can't get S Voice to work from the GS2. Google Reminders is the best thing going. Of course, I can't feel the viberation but...

I would be very interested to know how accurate the S3 would be in watch only mode.
Presumably, in watch only mode, the device would have no phone or network connection so would not be able to auto-update itself?

I thought the interval setting (e.g. Permanent) for pulse measurement is also included in Tizen 3? At least on Gear Sport and Fit2 Pro it's included.

I don't understand what new functionally the watch only mode brings. The S3 can be put in airplane mode. This turns off cellular, WiFi, and BT, thus making the watch an island unto itself. It's not completely dumb, apps not requiring connectivity still work (ie. stopwatch, HR monitor, calendar, S Pay) and previously inputted data is still available. In this mode, the battery will last for several days. The biggest drain will be the watch face.
BTW, auto updates can be turned off. It's a setting in the Gear Manager app.

I'm not launching nuclear missles or solving the national debt so most of the upgrades don't impact me. Mine does what I want it to do now and I'm afraid an "improvement" will screw up a good thing. A new OS is a risk just to get rid of the little clock on the top when I'm in Standalone.

In watch only mode, the watch can last for several weeks, not just several days.

unfortunately they forgot to mention a terrible new feature: notifications are instantly dismissed by the sleep gesture.
the watch has a "wake up" gesture which wakes the screen when you turn your wrist to look at it, but enabling it would already force the inverse on you as well.
turning your watch away from your face(or towards you while not in an upright standing position, which is why it's such a failure) will make it go back to sleep.
this was annoying enough before version 3, but now this will also dismiss notification pop-ups.
this means the watch now frequently keeps marking new notifications as read and dismissing them before I even get a chance to read them.
so I receive a notification, I turn my wrist to look at it, and I'm presented with my watchface with no notification or unread-marker.
so now whenever I receive a notification I have to rotate the bezel or swipe into the notification history to see the notification, when I should just be able to see it instantly.

I was under the 2.3.2.4 version. I am to go under the 2.3.2.3 version and the miracle the update 3.0.0.1 came fast in case for information

Not yet rollout to my s3. Just curious If the whatsapp notification issue is fixed or not.

UA Record issue with Tizen 3
It also broke UA Record app. After update UA started, pause button worked (used for my rest between set of exercises performed in gym) but when I tried to use Resume button - application stopped and I had back again my watchface. No exercises recorded. So I decided to reinstall app and what? App is freeezing on it's start screen and after few minutes I have ma watchface back again. Till now it was the only app used by my so often and now it's a sh...t. Does anytime Samsung have to spoil good working things?
Update. Wow. today is working. However another issue - I tried to add new widget in a Quick panel and what? I have message "Installing ... " since two hours and nothing more

watch is lagging after 3.0.0.1 update, any fix coming

Why are they so ignorant about this issue? Havent any of the engineers at samsung tried to actually use this watch on daily life?! I am so bored of using another app to fix samsung's fault

Got update for my Gear S3 to Tizen 3.0 - packed full of new stuff

Hi.
Got all of my 258.5MB of Tizen 3.0.0.1 update last night....and it's packed full of new stuff.
The update itself was a bit bumpy and took a while to get the watch back in use, including having to do a complete reset because the watch faces I has installed myself did not work. I have re-loaded some and they work okay. It gives you an option to order them differently (e.g. newest first), which is useful.
I have not yet been through everything and need to get used to (and happy with) some changes, but it seems to be working okay now. Also, it seems I have more storage than before; it shows 2.53GB / 4.0GB.

Had a chance today to look at some of the new functions and here are a few highlights:
=> You can now share your custom watch faces with others from your watch, by sending a message to a contact in your list. I tried and it seems to work, however, I will still have to check if it arrived and in what form.
=> Since I had to reload my custom watch faces, I modified a few and did a re-build. In the previous version, this a was longer step because it would not always build the face on my watch first time and i had to try a few times before it would load. Now, its done first time and is super fast!
=> To view your watch faces, if you turn the bezel (left&right), the view shows more faces on the screen, albeit smaller in size, but its really cool and lets you select from the thumbnail view.
=> The functions are grouped a bit differently, and it tells you what's included (e.g. Settings; Watch faces & styles - gives a list of what's included, which is helpful when searching).
=> There's a new Watch Only option, which is supposed to give you many days of use on a single battery charge. However, the screen just shows a simple digital watch view and times-out quickly - not really useful other than for an emergency (say, if you are hiking / traveling / on a flight and can't get it re-charged easily for a few days).
=> the inner circle of the watch is being used much more to provide new info (e.g. with colour-coding & text to tell you what you've selected - say if a set an alarm for 6.00am, there is a blue circle going from 0-6 showing how much time if left. Nice feature.
=> I think I already mentioned before that you can choose to re-order your watch faces, so you either get the same as before, or you can choose to get the new ones created at the start of the list, even before the stock faces. Useful when you have created many and would need to skip through them all to get to your latest face.
Anyway, there's much more to look at, so I think that's all for now. I feel happier with this update, now that I have got over the hassle of having to reset and reload my watch faces, plus a no. of other steps I had to do on the Gear Designer.

1 terrible new feature is missing from the lists:
turning the watch away now not only puts it in standby/AOD, but also dismisses open notification pop-up and marks them as read.
so now half the time I get a notification it's dismissed the moment I try to read it.

Another useful feature is gone! The back gesture! Now every time I want to go back in the menus I have to reach for the back button!
Any way around that?

So I just updated to this update. I am using the watch maker app to get watch faces. I applied the watch face I've been using for awhile and the watch face font automatically changes to the font I have set for the watch. Is there anyway to keep the font as is from the designer?

Another awful thing missing from this update is how they fail to mention that 3.0 also made the notifications folder "read only" and you can now no longer have custom notification tones; you're limited to ringtones only. Wtf? SMH.

Completley agree. I really like rest of the update. better design of infos, new "Status menu" fast access for example to audio and volume control and so on, but the deleted "back gesture" really kills me...

Tizen 3, S3 HRM and battery life
I gotta jump in on this. I've been a sammy user for many years, like most of you for sure. Phones mostly, a few major appliances, guitar (I think) and Gear S3.
Got the S3 in April. All was fine until August, '17. At that point the HRM went nutty most of the time. In S-health mode (all-the-time heart monitor during walk, run, ect. I'd walk 3mph walking my dog and HRM would record up to 205 BPM with a few reasonable periods around 90 BPM like I would expect from low exertion activity. Running 12 MPH same. Talked to the aweful sammy csr for warranty repair. Indian accent so thick you could tight rope on it. Huh? what? back and forth for 15 minutes. "Jesus, get me to someone I can understand", I was immediately transferred, and worked out the mechanics of the return quickly (If you cann sammy csr, unless you love punishment, as for a native English speaker). Sent it in, week later returned. Wore it on first workout: same-o, same-o.

Started over, this time skipping India all together. Sent it in with a note. Week later comes back with a note: The watch is functioning properly. My take on that is "get over it".
Pissed as hell I call again, telling them I don't appreciate the attitude. They can replace the watch or return my money. I was told to send it in. I said **** you and hung up. I can't tell you how bad I wanted to slam the phone down. Good ol' days.
I'm using the watch like normal ever thought the HRM is a total waste. I'm looking for a suitable replacement, but the S3 is on a level of it's own. Damned you Samsung!!!
Enter Tizen 3. Right away I hated the new "functions", but the batter life. Horrid!! Reset, turned off functions like bezel on feature, weather, notifications: I was getting 1.5 to 2 days charge rather than 3.5 to 4 says I was getting on T2.
Not taking this: Called sammy csr, asked for native English speaker, then manager. The csr was ver comforting, and I held back as much as possible, and I was civil, but I had to tell someone at sammy how jumbled-up this whole stupid smartwatch thing was making me. I told her I would not just box it up and send it in for the third time unless she could convincingly assure me I would get this resolved, for once and for all. She was apologetic and made some notes, suggesting I include a screenshot of the activity.
I boxed the goddamn with a two page note, four screenshot prints and a prayer they would either figure-out the problems (HRM & battery) or replace the watch, using Tizen 2 firmware (even if not replaced).
This is where I am at the moment, waiting for the verification email that their service department received my device.
I've read other posts specifically related to decimated battery after flashing Tizen 3, but no one on this thread, up to now, has mentioned it.
You guys having battery issues? If so, how are you addressing these?

Notifications no longer sent when phone is in "Do not disturb" mode

Hello there!
I have a Galaxy Note 8 connected to my Gear Fit2 Pro and after the recent round of app updates I stopped receiving any kind of notifications on my watch when my phone is in "Do not disturb" mode. This is very inconvenient as at work I always have my phone in "Do not disturb" and I rely on my watch to give me the notifications in a discreet way.
Even worse, they don't even get transmitted to the watch, so if I check it, it just says no notifications.
I was able to fix this by reverting back the phone software for the Gear Fit2 Pro:

I've tried to disable all of the automatic update options I was able to find (both in the google play store, as well as in the samsung galaxy store) and so far I've been able to avoid it moving back to the latest version.
I am the only one seeing this issue? Did someone find a better way out?

I can confirm this is actually exactly what I just did! I realized that the notifications didn't work properly after the update, only just today I decided to check out the Playstore reviews of the Galaxy Watch app to see if anyone had similar issues but had the time to post it since the last update and saw someone saying that they wouldn't get any notifications while their phone was in DnD mode, which is the same for me, so I tried disabling the DnD mode and notifications worked normally, so I decided to try to revert back to previous versions of the app to see if it was the problem and I can confirm that I just found your post right as I finished reverting back to the exact versions you posted and everything is now working just like before!

Glad to know I'm not the one going crazy about this! It's a shame especially that changing versions needs a reset of the watch.
I've tried getting in touch with support, but had no luck yet.

The "Samsung Accessory Service" app seems to have received an update but I manually chose to not update it yet just in case, can anyone confirm that this will resolve the connection problem there was from the last update?
It is only stated in the "What's New" section that they "Fixed minor bugs and enhanced connection with Galaxy Fit", and since we're talking about the Gear Fit 2 Pro I'm not sure if this applies at all?

I'll probably give it a try in a couple of weeks, have new phone coming (Fxtec Pro 1) so since I would need to reset the Gear Fit 2 to pair again anyway, might as well try the latest version.
I'll report back when I test it.

Also here. Phone (note 10+) on DND and watch is not. No vibrations, yes notifications (orange dot).
So I missed rather a lot of messages and some phonecalls %^$#@[email protected]#*
Now I use Beautiful Widgets' "timed silence" widget temporarily.
In that case my Note is only silent and not in DND, which is ok.

I can confirm that with my new phone I installed "Galaxy Wearable" 2.2.28.19120361 and "Geat Fit Plugin" 2.2.04.19120641N and I still had the notifications issue. I've rolled back to the versions I've linked to in the first post and I got them back.
Samsung... please wake up :/

Question Notification problems

Ive got the GW4 46mm BT classic paired with a Note20U both up to date , woke up this morning after watch been fine for a week and put my watch on but no notifications coming thru to the watch did quick restart on both no go.
Reset the watch and only some notifications come thru no email or texts tho whatsapp is ok , checked settings nothing has changed.
Uninstalled galaxy gear app and reset watch still the same missing certain notifications even tho they are ticked .
Watch is set to show even if phone is open.
Any ideas ?

You may need to turn on notifications for the specific apps in the wearable app. I had to do this as I was getting no notifications for any apps.

I've checked all the settings and all ticked . Emaids via the Samsung app now work but texts messages have now stopped showing on the watch even tho notification is ticked !!!

As I never had this problem with the old generation watch I got before (Gear S3 running Tizen), I think we have just to wait for the 1st product OS update.
Youth problems are common on first releases. I hope first OTA will fix this annoying problem.

Same here. Text messages and phone calls appear fine. WhatsApp is a hit and miss, sometimes pops up, sometimes just silently shows the notification dot.
In general, regardless of this bug, notification management on this watch is a mess, very poor user experience.
Some things I noticed:
1. If you're driving with Android Auto, it's impossible to respond or take action on a notification on your watch. Anything you click on (such as 'Delete' on an email notification or 'Mark as Read' on a text message) seemingly registers on the watch but the notification persists and no action is taken.
2. The notification indicator is useless if you have the watch set to wake up the screen when you get a notification. Basically it wakes up the screen to display the notification and from that point on it's considered 'read' so the indicator won't appear, even if you didn't actually look at it. They should've had an option to show the indicator while you have uncleared notifications.
3. Multiple notifications from the same app require you to click on a tiny number icon at the bottom of the notification. Inconvenient. (Think when you have multiple WhatsApp messages from different contacts).
4. Looking at a notification screen gives you no indication of whether or not you have other notifications, you have to try to swipe left to check.
5. To clear a notification while it's open -- you either have to click 'back' to the main notification screen and then swipe up or scroll all the way down to find the 'clear' button -- which sometimes isn't there and you have to click on 'More...' first. How about just allowing me to swipe to dismiss it after reading it?!
They'e put a lot of emphasis on health, but given very little thought about the basics.

I can only confirm and complain that I get 0 notifications from Whatsapp even though I've checked all the notifiation settings multiple times. Also even though I've got the wear os version of telegram installed, the telegram notifications I get are standard notifications that can't show e.g. pictures or voice messages.

It was working fine when I got it on tuesday. It even worked fine after the "day 1 OTA". And now I get nothing at all. Tried everything from granting more permissions to the Watch4 Plugin or disabling battery optimization and stuff. Restarted both devices a lot. It just stopped working. I am glad I am not the only one...

An update for you mine started getting notifications texts,Samsung emails etc . Gmail shows randomly but no vibrate or sound on Gmail other notification have this ,
I don't have a clue whats changed to fix this I already had OTA just woke up a few days ago and they were working phone was upstairs watch downstairs overnight ?!?

Weird... well I guess I have to wait. lol

Update from me as well. I turned off both phone and watch and turned them back on together after a few minutes. I don't know why it works but it does.
Edit: Nvm it worked for like one notification and then it stopped working again...

Restarting both devices helped me.

I played around with a bit more. Restarting both devices helps...for a while. As soon as the watch reconnects to the phone (i.e. you move too far from your phone) it stops working. Very annoying still.

I'm has been fine since it started working last week had few disconnects while walking away from phone but coming back in to range and its reconnects fine and notifications a work .
It does repeat whatsapp messages that I previously read and gmail still not vibtrate of sound ,

Sounds way better than my status. Do you have a Samsung phone? I am using a Black Shark phone. I still have to investigate this further...

I have the impression that all the notifications work fine now: Gmail, WhatsApp, Nuki, telegram, Smartthings, messages, Gtask.
Hope it will stay ok.
Mean reason for me is having phone on silence but I can see notifications on watch.
Btw the watch 4 classic is a real beast.

What version of plugin do you have?
I still have no gmail vibrate.
