Any hope for A Samsung Gio (GT-S5660) today ? - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
This is my first post here. I have an old Samsung Gio (GT-S5660) in good condition hardware-wise. I did a factory reset recently, and since then I can't use Google Play (still called Market then) because it complains about server issues. I can't use the built-in Samsung software update tool for the same reason (connection to server fails), and I can't install Google Play from an sdk either ("Problem parsing the package"). I suppose all this is because all services are no longer backward-compatible with the factory apps on my phone.
So I'm stuck with a phone which "works" perfectly, but on which I can't install any recent app. I'd like to keep this phone for several reasons (but mostly because throwing away a device that still works makes me furious).
Is there any hope of making it functional again with a ROM, or do you think it's too old ? If yes, please propose a safe place where I could get a suiting ROM.
Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Just found the problem this morning. Was about to install apps from android online market and discovered that it says "There are no android phones associated with this account. Please sign in with a different account.". Have tried the exiting solution given on various webpages by deleting phone number and again restoring it. But no luck :-( .. Can anyone help? Will be very grateful. Thanks in advance.

android market no device associated with this account
i have the sam problem
I've read the rooted phones have trouble.
since you are on eclair, you could use z4root to unroot and see if it works. If it doesn't then use the suggested solution while unrooted

It seems that I have not the official ROM. How can I fix this,
hey i too had the same problem!
What i did was ,
Went back to android market via mobile and synced it once and twice while keeping google account signed off on pc.
and then again loggin on on pc!
see if tht solves your problem!
Create new google account. Remove older account from phone. Add new account info, reboot, then add info of your primary account. Now reboot again and remove info of new account. If it doesnot works then do a factory reset after first step.
Hope it helps you.
i had the same problem, i simply contacted google
and believe me they are very responsive, i got a reply within a day and my problem was fixed
same issue
I have flash my new samsung galaxy s2 with odin and followed the instruction, it turn green..n my phone rebooted, no longer with orange applications n etc. Is that consider rooted? cuz if i put my new sim card in, they will require me to enter the network lock control key...which i thought of downloading chainfire's key unlock sim app..
I tried using connected the android market via wifi and downloaded the apps but when I wana click run...will appear could not acquire superuser access, is your phone rooted?.. i downloaded superuser ...but i keep having this pop up process of android.process acore has stopped unexpectedly. please try again.........
seriously need help!! tq.
I have the same problem many times. I know how to solve it.
Option 1 - Try downloading any application from ur cellphone. Once its downloaded and installed check the market online.
Option 2 - Try syncing ur account by using Gmail, Gtalk or any google application. Just send some mail or something via Gmail. That should do it.
Option 3 - Remove ur account from the cell phone and add it again
Option 4 - (Wont Recommend this, but you want to you can try) Download another of the market. Try upgrading the market verison. Use this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1328878
If None of these work, it means there is some internal prob. Try after somedays, or flash another rom.
Solved for me.
I had this same issue this morning. And boy, was I pissed off...!! Did a lot of Google search but nothing fixed the issue. And then stumbled upon something on my own, that fixed the issue for me. Here's what you can do -
Login to your Google dashboard; from a PC preferebly. Else from cell is also fine.
There, scroll down to "Android market" and click "Installed applications"
This will open android market, with your already installed apps list, under orders tab. Click the 'Settings' tab here.
Hopefully you'll see your device listed here, but the nickname will be missing. At least that's what I saw. Edit and add a nickname, save changes.
And voila. Your device will show up in the apps' pages now.
Let me know if this helps you.

Installing apps: stuck at 100%

Afaik, It happens to me (on more than one smartphone, LP and Marshm.) when play store updates itself.
I have tried deleting cache for play store and play services, removing account, rebooting, even resetting play store to factory.
One thing I noticed is that while the app is at 100% it will install right upon closing the play store (meaning out of background).
So I wonder whether this may be a clue on what is causing trouble and how to fix it.

Since this is not how it should work, given the fact that you are having this issue on more than one device, this tells me that the issue isn't with the device or the apps, it is more likely an issue of user error or things that you have modified on your device.
Are you using stock ROM or custom ROM?
Are you using modified Google apps?
Have you tried factory resetting the device itself instead of resetting the Google apps?

I pointed out the fact it happens on more than one (even tablets with 5.1) just to rule out the fact it may depends on a specific device.
But let's talk of a specific device, as right now the problem is persistent on one, running 6.0
It's stock and not rooted. No modified apps.
The only thing I feel worth bringing up to the attention is AppMgr III and that the 2GB SD is used as internal storage (not portable), though reports on available storage are inconsistent (see here).
I observe also a slight higher battery consumption than when things work smoothly, however I can not blame any specific app, I don't see anything (I assume because it's due to something wrong with android itself).
Now, fixing via factory reset is painful but I can't do it every play store update, if that's the case (I assume it will work, as everything used to work very well).
Another thing I may throw in is some problem (?) with nova launcher (prime), but again I didn't any crazy thing, so I go blind about it.
Thanks for your kind attention, ricardo
As a workaround I have been able to seamlessly update apps by entering safe mode. On two different devices.
I don't think I'll ever succeed and work out the reason why it's stuck on normal mode.
Just to tell, the tablet updated playstore on march 3rd. Then on march 10th I turned it back on and there was another playstore update (it says it will be installed), but it never does, and so does it for apps. So I could not have done anything in between, and I can assure I care so much to the (reading) tablet that I just install needed apps and verified and tested on other devices before installing on my tablet. It's definitely a problem with play services (interacting with chinese devices, could it be relevant?)

Motorola XT2125-4 EdgeS Help needed

Hi,
I purchased a new phone a Motorola Edge S (hardware SKU XT2125-4), unfortunately it is a China ROM phone which means it didn't come with Google play store. This was side loaded and I am able to install apps from google. But I have SO many issues with this and I am hoping someone has something helpful to actually use this phone
1. When I try to use Google setup a nearby device (to transfer everything over to this phone), it simply can't find my new phone (despite having bluetooth and location on for both phones
2. I can't restore contacts from google drive even though I can connect
3. I downloaded the MAGISK app, however the file browser is unable to install as the app is not allowed. The toggle to trust the app can not be changed.
I am at a loss as to how to actually use this phone as essentially it's useless at the moment. Any help would be appreciated.
It is already running Android Version 11
Baseband version M55_HI20_209.334.01.60R NIO_PVT_SUPERSDS_CUST
Kernel Version 4.19.136-perf+
Build Number RRN31.Q1-20-17-6
I can provide any / all other information if needed
If the solution is to root the phone, I'm ok with that too, but see point 3.
I'm in the same situation. Purchased the XT2125 as well. Got the Google stuff working by side loading the play store, services and framework. However, initially, while everything else was working, the contacts wouldn't sync. After a few hours of searching, finally came across an article which said that I also needed to side load an apk called google contacts sync and give it permission. Contacts started syncing after that. Fast forward a couple of days and a system update later, SMS are delivered with really long delays and outbound ones fail. Google maps crashes constantly and navigation just doesn't work. I don't know what to do with this phone now honestly, since I need Google maps navigation on a regular basis. Have tried reinstalling maps, resetting permissions, clearing cache and data but nothing seems to work. And with the SMS delay, I can't sign on our complete transactions on a lot of apps because the SMS usually arrives after such a delay that the code has expired. Feels like such a waste of money this phone even though it's supposed to be great bang for the buck.
I am hopeful that when they release the Moto G100 (same phone actually), that we will be able to flash it with this ROM to make it usable.

Wait it's like that with motorola too
I thought it's only like that with xiaomi
Seems like even with motorola it doesn't come with google apps if it's a china rom
Though it was only with xiaomi where if it's a china rom it doesn't come with any google apps guess im wrong

Yeah, I think it's being released in a couple of days. Anyway, I did a factory reset and the maps issues sorted out. Had to go through the pain of sideloading google again but the device is being shown as google play certified, but yeah, would be nice to just have the international rom on it.
Were you able to make any headway with your device? I didn't put a sim in mine but the rest of it seems to be working ok, except Youtube Vanced isn't signing in with a google account.

Later versions of Sygic Navigator does not work on my Samsung S5 Duos?

Hello XDA!
So here's the situation:
I used to have the Navigon app on my phone for navigation purposes and it was great, but then end of 2020 they (Navigon/Garmin) pulled the plug on the map/update/authorization servers. Even for users who paid for the product! I found this out the hard way when I reinstalled Navigon and it wanted to authorize the app for use (and couldn't find the servers)...
So since then I've been looking for another GPS app to take its place (OR a patched version of Navigon with the latest map set before they shut everything down that I could still continue to use the app)... It ticks me off that I won't be able to use it anymore. Oh well I guess it was worth the money for the years of use I got out of it....
I found Sygic GPS which seemed to be a competent package. The app installs fine from the Google Play Store, BUT it says something along the lines of "Something went wrong, restart the app" - it seems it can't reach the servers or something. I have tried sideloading the app as well and it still throws the same error. does anyone here know what is up with that?
Yes I also contacted the company that makes Sygic but they couldn't tell me anything useful either.
I can't spend money on an app that doesn't want to work.
So as it stands right now I don't really have a good usable GPS app for when I need it (no I don't like Google Maps)
Any help would be appreciated.
Looks to me the error is caused due to data storage and cache issues on your Android device.

Thank you for the suggestion, it's much appreciated.
However, I've tried installing it on my tablet as well and it throws the same error (both Google Play Store version and sideloaded version) the tablet is also Android 6.0.
I have given the app "all permissions" possible to allow it to use storage etc. but it hasn't worked....
I've Sygic GPS Navigation in use on my Huawei 7 ( 2019 ) running Android 8.1 ( EMUI ): It installed and runs perfectly.
Okay so, no one knows what may be causing this issue for me that I cannot run Sygic without it failing on Android 6.0.1? I have tried enabling Places services (GPS) in the phone settings and giving all permissions to the app, but it still fails to get to the point where you get to choose internal or external storage for the data (maps).
I know I can "just" put in the latest LineageOS and everything would be just fine (Sygic runs fine on an S5 with LineageOS 18.1) but it would be a lot of work to get that done backing up and transferring data and stuff, so IF there is a way to get the phone to behave with Sygic it would be very nice....
Any help is appreciated!

Cannot open Settings - Settings has stopped unexpectedly (U11+ not U12+)

Hello,
Please help! I have a HTC U11+ with Android 9. For some reason I cannot open the settings app or by tapping the gear icon. I have performed a factory reset by using the power + up during boot but it's not made a difference.
I have noticed if I uninstall Google or updates it starts working again. I don't know if this is an issue with a recent update but it's causing some big issues. Can anyone offer any advice how to resolve the issue or some alternative?
Kindest regards,
Nick
Hi Nick, I have the exact same issue on HTC U12+
I tried booting in safe mode, but also that didn't make a difference.
Uninstalling google also fixes the issue for me, I think I'll report it to google. It's highly doubtful we can get any support from HTC. I just want to hang in there till the pixel 8 is released, didn't think HTC would throw us this curveball
edit: looks like the google app is getting a lot of 1 star reviews recently. For some people the app itself stopped working completely. Interesting. Perhaps we can also just install a "good" version by downloading a verified APK. Then you can disable individual update for the google app. Not ideal though, but a worst case scenario fix maybe. At least we won't be stuck with the 2019-ish version of google that way
I, too, had the same issues where the Settings app (and alll related functions) would crash. After about an hour of freaking out (I was at Disneyland when I discovered this and had no access to tools or a computer), I figured out it was the stupid Google app that caused the issue... just like what was already reported above.
After trial and error, the last "good" version of the Google app that still worked is 14.15.25.28.arm64. You can grab this from APK Mirror.
Thank you for your replies.
Sounds like it's an issue with the latest Google app update which I think is 14.17. Installed 14.15 as per your suggestion and that seems to work fine. Thanks again.
This mproblem now seems to have resolved itself, not sure if Google or htc fixed it but works fine now without needing to uninstall Google Updates
Thanks for the reply. Yes, mines also been resolved since the Google app version is now 14.17.34.28. Don't think HTC are doing any kind of support/updates nowadays
