Well I'm old fan of HTC devices i have used wildfire s, one v, One X i liked them so much so i told my self why don't you give Samsung S3 a try bought one s3 Verizon it was great but it felt cheap in my hand with there plastic cover i had to go back to HTC bought HTC One M7 the worst idea ever had too many factory defects exchange it 3 times with a new one but they had camera sensor defect so i guess if you are going to buy HTC brother think twice M7 or M8 they are using the same camera sensors even if it has no issues from the beginning with camera be aware after 6 month you will have pink reddish Tint in nigh shots or dark places.. so be careful HTC not that good anymore.. so go for the LG

Yeah if only not because of the Pink Tinting of the Camera. HTC is really a solid choice. Premium build quality and it is undeniably a very beautiful phone, IMHO HTC M7 looks better than M8. And another good thing about HTC lately is they are one of those OEMs who makes it to their software update promises. And about LG. I got to test myself the LG G3 the dark gray one, I was actually impressed, LG has greatly improved but on the software side they kinda lag out on updates but I believe they'll be changing their perspective on that. Samsung Note 3 is a lovely phone with impressive battery life, I also like the leather like back case because I am born with sweaty hands and of all the smartphones I had, this was the one I was worrying less of having smudges at the back. Though I hate the chrome linings they kinda fade out easily, though that's partly my fault because I am a No-case guy eversince I got my 3rd smartphone which was a iPhone5 (the only IOS phone I owned). I like to see the full beauty of my phone, but in return I should he ready for random fading of the chrome frame. And I agree with the previous poster. No more Note 4 for me too because of Knox. Knox should have been optional, more of a business package, not for normal users like me.
My next phone probably next year would be from HTC/LG/Sony. I hate to leave samsung but Knox's trouble outweighs its benefits for me. The last time I checked SAMSUNG IS still ANDROID not IOS so why mimic Apple
Note: random typos *spelling*
Anyone have light leakage on the sides of the phone where the glass meets the frame?
I just saw the thread on this in the main Note 7 forum. I checked my Black Onyx Sprint Note 7 and saw no light leakage on any sides.

Yes, I have it. Checked the display models at Best Buy, and they had it too. I'm thinking it is either normal or at least not uncommon.

Interesting. It doesn't bother me at all. Would there be any detrimental effects that you know of besides aesthetics? I don't want to exchange it just to get another model just like it. Like I said, I've seen three copies and all had the same light leakage.

None that I'm aware but could be wrong. I am of the mind that as much as I paid for this phone, it should have no aesthetic issues, but that's just me.

I agree. 4 was better
Even if that is the case, I wouldn't count on them replacing the glass. They will put different batteries in the phones and ship them.
I am looking to replace my battery on my Nexus 6P, I've abused it in the form of basically charging it all the time, all 8 hours at work, it sat on the charger all day, since I use it heavily. I now know the erro of my ways and I want to repalce the battery.
I've watched videos on how to do it, I know it's not easy, but it is possible. Has anyone here changed it, also where did you get the battery, I've found them anywhere form $10 to $50, I ahve no problem paying more if I know it's an OEM battery.
Thanks in advance.
Maybe someone, but I've not heard of anybody doing it....
Not here either....seems like a terrible time haha Best of luck to you if you try but when my battery life degrades to that point I will be parting with this phone and either buying another one of some sort. Even working with electronics for years there no way I'd personally succeed the first time lol
I have dissassembled my phone to replace random components after falling on it. its not that hard to get apart in my opinion, and its super simple to replace the battery if you can source the battery

Right! The teardown video I saw made it look not that bad, and I toar apart my Galaxy Nexus to replace the USB port on it back in the fday, and that was actually fun, granted it had a removable back with easier access to screws, but still.

I have been eyeing the oneplu3 and oogling over the supposed specs on the oneplus4, so I'll probably go there as soon as it's released, but my battery is bad, I get 2 hour SOT if I'm lucky, this phone used to give me 4+ easy.

Buy extra camera glass pieces. Thats literally the only thing that normally goes wrong if you dont have a real heat gun. Dont thing hair dryers will do the trick unless your extremely patient. I plan on replacing the housing soon.

Haha yeeeeaaah all that GSM crap and all their "nice" phones Good luck if ya try man, you're more adventurous than I!
I've successfully done an internal component swap. Swapped the motherboard and battery from a very beat up N6P into one that was in excellent condition but was basically a paperweight.
The most difficult thing about this project was not getting into the phone, but getting into the phone without leaving any noticeable scratches. Removing the camera glass and the plastic strip at the bottom took at least half an hour of heating and gentle prying. Getting the screen out without a suction cup tool was a bit tricky too, i had to wedge in a chisel x-acto blade and pry it up, lucky no damage was done.
My advice would be to have on hand as many of the tools suggested in the youtube videos and to be patient while do it.

Good to know
Thinking about doing mine
I've never taken mine apart but if I plan on replacing my battery I will buy the replacement glass piece and bottom plastic piece at the same time. Those are the only pieces that can get damaged in the process.
I just watched that video. from the looks of it, so long as you take your time. and have that suction cup tool, it should be fairly straight forward. at least you are not having to separate the screen itself from the guts to get inside.
Looks like my battery is on its way as well.
Anyone sourced genuine replacement yet?

Why?
I understand the 2 out of 10 rating on iFixit after replacing the back cover on my phone. 90% of the pain is getting to the 6 screws. I don't think it is possible without scratching up the old cover. Funny thing is that I just wanted to change it from silver to black. A heat gun is a definite requirement. Not for the faint at heart for sure.

Amazon recently added a Halo Gray variant to their listings and I know it comes with Alexa that can be removed but would there be any reason NOT to get this color? I wonder if it would be BETTER to get since it's probably a new hardware revision? I know it has the same internal specs as the others but I've heard some horror stories about the initial batch of the black ones and am wondering if that's still a concern.
I'm curious to know your thoughts!

Why wouldn't it be safe to buy? If you get a defective phone Amazon will send you a replacement, then you have 30 days to return the defective phone.

I purchased a black one from bestbuy earlier in the week hoping it was part of the new batch. It was apparently as the speaker grill was metal. But the light bleed was very present on both sides so i returned it. Started reading about the newer batch of phones that fixed the speaker grill are having light bleed issues. So with that said i’m hesitant to buy another. But this Halo grey color peaks my interest and amazons return policy is pretty great. So i’m going to bite the bullet and try the Halo grey.
I have the hall gray edition, and love it. No fingerprinting on back. And feels much more sold and secure in hand....

I picked up the Halo Grey when it was on sale for $450 and am mostly enjoying it right now. I have never seen any other PH-1 and could not imagine how much of a smudge magnet they must be. Plus the matte has just enough grip to it to keep it from being a wet bar of soap. I upgraded it to Oreo 8.1 within 10 minutes of taking it out of the box and am trying to figure out what the battery life is going to be like.
So yes...go halo!

So 2 weeks later now, How has the battery life been on oreo 8.1 ? getting my essential phone soon. So eager to know whether i should upgrade to oreo or not.
So I am going to call the battery life "acceptable", but not spectacular. I tried out a OnePlus 5T before the PH-1 but could not get VoLTE working on AT&T. That thing seemed to have stellar battery life. The Essential is going into Deep Sleep about 75% of the time according to CPU Spy. All I do is calls/texts and surf the web on mine and I seem to go 2 days before recharging again. The fast charge is damn fast...but I do find myself missing the headphone jack. I needed to plug it in the other day while I was on a call. And keeping up with the stupid dongle is annoying. I did try a cheap used 360 camera and what a total **** show. That thing ate power at a stupid rate, the video/pictures were like meh, and it actually has a tiny fan buzzing away in it....and it still heats up. Overall the phone is solid and built BEAUTIFULLY.
Mine has been great. I love the matte back and its much closer to black than grey. I also wasn't sure about the color of the metal frame from pictures either coming from a black moon I had previously but I really like it in person. Haven't had any quality issues with it.
I will say battery on 8.1 is decent... its nothing spectacular but its more than adequate. Then again I'm coming from a v30 which has possibly the best battery life I've ever had on an android phone.. just a slight step below the mate 8 and mi mix 1.
---------- Post added at 05:24 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:23 AM ----------
I am just a little bummed that I bought it at $499 and now its $450 with the essential earbuds and amazon refuses to refund me the difference or price match... and I really don't wanna have to go through the whole return and repurchase process just to get that difference back.
So far my battery on the matte gray was stellar. I spent the weekend at my girlfriends house and didnt have to charge it at all. So far so good.

Lol I set myself up for it. I did use my phone quite a bit over there. I left it on over night too with a sleep machine playing and no problems.
After only 2 months using the OnePlus 6 as a daily driver, dust came inside the camera lense. You can clearly see those particles and I tried wiping it off with a wet cloth but it remain there, so I'm definetly sure it's inside. How could this happen? I always used my op6 careful it never dropped.
I also saw another user in the op forums, he's having the same issue. (https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/dust.867476/)
Anyone else? I will post some pics later.

I contacted OnePlus Support about this issue, and they will replace my device. It's quiet a shame that the Op6 is sich dust-prone.

Both it seems, also it seems to be first batch of phones from what I've read so far. I'm on month 1 with my device, it came with 5.1.9 out the box, 0 dust yet. I don't use the slider above the power button, one theory was that dust get through from there.
Sucks not to nokt being able to use it tho, I was starting to like it... But since OnePlus don't think this is falling under warranty for some it just makes me not want to risk it.. P. S I always have a case on.
