[ROM][Port]MIUI8-Nougat - Xiaomi Redmi 3s ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other

My first ROM posted on XDA.
This is a port of Redmi 4X final Chinese version of MIUI 8 developer(7.7.20) .
WHAT are the difference from other Redmi 4X port?
-MIUI 8
-"Stock" kernel for better battery saving and less ANRs
-Full f2fs&Dual Boot Patcher support
-FC fixes
-Power off alarm
-CDMA sim cards support
-more optimizations for better experience
WHY it's MIUI8 not 9?
-there are various of MIUI 9 ports from Redmi 4X.
-MIUI 8 has stopped developing so that I can focus on more optimizations instead of keeping updated as stock version.
-There are always someone who likes to use MIUI 8 instead of 9 for some reasons.
-Camera related files of MIUI 9 has changed a lot .I don't know if the camera bug will be easier to fix on this ROM.
BUGS
-Camera and all related functions except flashlight.
-Fingerprint will not be recognized after next reboot
-VoLTE

Me for merging files up into a ROM
And more developers for the files I've used in their ROM
Currently I will not build global versions until major bugs get fixed or when I have enough time.

Thanks, kudos for your efforts

Wow .. ?hope you will keep working on it until it becomes stable..

You think you can merge security patches?

I didn't .The date is just a number in build.prop and you can modify it if you want, but nothing really happens.

I don't know what the patch level exactly is ,and because porting roms take files from everywhere,so there is no exact date.

Those security updates are very important. They are there to pin down those vulnerabilities. Take the Blueborn vulnerability that was pinned down last october 5, 2017 security update. It makes the device more secure aside form SEPolicy. So those arent just numbers to modify on build prop. They mean a whole lot. Well aside that, thank you for this port and hope to see more. People are really treated by MIUI so badly. They boast that they provide updates but those updates like on beta are not necessarily android updates but are just apps updates. Thanks for providing stock nougat.

Nothing can be done until xiaomi merges the latest security patches with their sources. And the blueborn vulnerability for now can only be controlled by users, said the miui team in response to some enquiries.

MIUI8 doesn't have this feature but you could enable it by using 3rd party apps since nougat has provided it's API.

Since this ROM is based on los 14 so if it has nothing to do with MIUI Android framework ,there will be no vulnerabilities.

Port miui 8 nougat from redmi 5A it has Snapdragon 425 it may not have bugs while porting

Just got it set up and... i am treble ready? No way!
There is definitely a positive change in response times and obviously much better use of hardware. Rooted no prob after a long first run and installed after 3 boots. Nice!

now that you installed treble fully, you can install GSIs from the treble forums but there is one problem with pie GSIs, some GSIs dont work because of some kind of overlays.. here's a list of GSIs that work and dont work
Avoid these GSIs:
ViperOS (Pie)
Pixel Dust (Pie)
PixelExperience (Pie)
Resurrection Remix (Pie)
HavocOS (Pie)
Liquid Remix (Pie)
MIUI (Oreo)
Oxygen OS (Oreo)
XenonHD (Oreo)
GSIs that work:
Phh-Treble (Pie/Oreo)
AOSP Extended (Pie (6.0)/Oreo)
AOSiP (Pie)
Descendant (Pie)
Bootleggers (Oreo)
Resurrection Remix (Oreo)
Lineage OS (Pie)
Ok nice. Kinda all over the place here. This is crazy. Only because i'm going to try all the ones suggested
Oh. My. God. This is AMAZING! My A8 is gone!

Ha. So I've probably tried close to 10 gsi's now and while some were decent, there so far has always been something that makes it unreasonable to stick with.
There's a lot more choices, that's for sure. I was really hoping to nail the rr 9.0 but don't have the patience to fix the partition issue.... so now I am looking at a cool glowing arrow with hopes of no vendor error message at the welcome screen. The install was easy. No idea if this glowing arrow is going to get tired and let me have a spin at it....
Can I use it without root? I mean i don't want to have the phoe rooted for some apps. Thank You.

i tried AOSP Phh-Treble today and got again the same feeling compared to this rom, this rom feels a bit "laggy". Don't get me wrong, it's not perma, it happens when i scroll realy quick...maybe it seems to me subjectively like that :cyclops:
atm i got two other issues:
the device didnt't get recognized if i connect it with usb to pc. only in recovery mode.
the developer options crash everytime if i try to open

Installing Official Android 10 GSI

I have been trying to install the official android 10 gsi on my mix 2s: https://developer.android.com/topic/generic-system-image/
Flashed the rom but the phone just bootlooped, after going through the initial instructions more carefully, turns out this phone is not fully VNDK (Vendor Native Development Kit) compliant.
My question is, what does this mean for the phone? Can't say I understand it well, but would Xiaomi have to make an updated Android 10 vendor partition? Are there some devs who can make it VNDK compliant, and its only a matter of time? Is this VNDK built into any custom Android 10 rom that will be made for this device in the future?
That would be interesting if it actually booted.
Not sure that this VNDK compliant is which you are refering

I attached a screenshot of the section I'm talking about, the output for the Mix 2S for "namespace.default.isolated" is "false."
Also I found that Xiaomi plans to update this device to MIUI 11 (Android 10) sometime between now and the end of the year, so that should update the vendor software and make this GSI able to boot. :fingers-crossed:
Do not try to install for now. I've already installed and for some reason I don't know, my phone always crashed so I have to reboot it.....:crying:

Our devices didn't ship with android 9.0 so I doubt they would be "VNDK", unless xiaomi choose to do this(doubt it tbh, wish but doubt) in our phones. We have no luck unless they(xiaomi) provides an update for android 10

Well, I hope there will be future development for this phone too. I'm using one for more than 2 years, and battery still rocks, it sure lasts more than any flagship !

Yea bro same, more than 2.5 years and still i get SOT of 6-7 hours.
Whenever i think of buying a new phone, i look at my p2 and i stop. Its still so smooth cuz of the ROMS and charges under 1 hour and 15 minutes.
This phone is the best purchase i ever had. So i want development to keep going on, atleast for 1 more iteration of Android. Then i'll maybe buy Redmi K20 pro next year cuz it'll also have good development in future.
@Erazor84 that's good news brother. But I'll wait for AOSP xtended Android-10 (if it ever comes)
Bcuz i used their Oreo build and now using pie, and i found them the best among all of'em.

My guess would be at least 2 more ROMs :fingers-crossed: one from @VladSor and second from @Fullbustah as they are consistent with porting/ developing the ROMs such as Havoc, Syberia, Bootleggers and POSP for P2.
But of course, we need a reliable vendor upgrade first.

Generic System Image (GSI) is pure untouched Android released by Google for treble enabled phones with a designated vendor partition.
Semi GSI (SGSI) is a customized GSI with features and name of a custom ROM and it can also be installed on treble enabled phones with a designated vendor partition.

The following url https://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p2/development/rom-aosip-derpfest-t3981193 will give You access on this forum to the thread concerning AOSiP-10-DerpFest-Alpha-kuntao-20191009.zip which is the first alpha version of the first Android 10 custom rom dedicated to the Lenovo P2.
If You are interested in testing this Android 10 rom, just follow the installation instructions given on the first page of the thread.
If I well understood, I think that someone, maybe mikeioannina ?, should now be working on a Android 10 rom LineageOS 17. If this is the case, all we can do is to be patient.
You will note that from now on we must say Android 10 instead of Q as asked by Google. So, next year, the next version of Android will be Android 11 and not R.

Hello I've tried all of the versions on my KUNTAO, at the beggining very laggy now better, there are some ROMS which you can use w/out a problem if you can live w/out some of the features like the FP GESTURES OR AA CONNECTIVITY.
HAVOC 3.0 (NOT THE TREBLE VERSION) to me is the best option till this post furthermore I don't know.
CHHERS
So, We are half a year further from the last post in this thread, any news on the stability and performance of the android 10 rom's? Im right now on Crdroid Pie ROM and except fingerprint kicking the bucket everything is working flawlessly. Any stable and well performing 10 rom's out there, or should we wait a little longer?

[ROM][11] JAGUAR R FOR ONEPLUS 3

This is the official build of Jaguar Rom. I have been building Android roms since 2012 for various devices including multiple Sonys, Lenovo Zuk and Oneplus 5 (my current device). You can check the Oneplus 5 development thread here: Oneplus 5 thread
Jaguar rom is focused on hardening of Android and kernel. As such, the rom has hardened bionic and tightened security. Kernel has security features ported from linux kernel 4.14.
Otherwise, the rom has all standard+ features that come with custom roms:
1 Rom control with custom Power menu, Statusbar, Buttons, Navbar, Quicksettings, Lockscreen, Notifications, Gestures, Themes etc.
2. Working FDE encryption, which is not forced, but could be enabled within Settings
3. Heavily modified Art, Bionic System/Vold and System/Security
4. Telephony response ('silently acknowledged') to Type Zero sms disabled
5. Toggle to disable Captive Portal logging
6. Rom could be booted on locked bootloader out of the box
7. All customizations as listed in '1'
8. MicroG ready
Instructions:
1. If you are encrypted on any other rom, you need to do a factory reset in TWRP, the option, where you enter 'Yes' to confirm.
2. Reboot into TWRP (after factory reset), transfer Jaguar to internal SD, wipe system/cache/data and /vendor, if you have it;
3. Flash the rom and reboot.
You will be unencrypted. If you want encryption (FDE, not ICE), encrypt withing Settings.
Rom V1 is in the attachment. All subsequent release will be posted in #3.

Will try it out & report. Many Thanks for keeping our OP3/3T alive. Appreciate all the great developers work on XDA.

Update - Hotspot is not working for me. Typically I do not use this feature so I don't test this function.

Hotspot is not working for me. Typically I do not use this feature so I don't test this function.
Updated my initial response.

Will try it out & report. Many Thanks for keeping our OP3/3T alive. Appreciate all the great developers work on XDA.
Update - Added a few screenshots. Everything is working so far. Snappy & Tons of Customization options. Rooted(Magisk Canary).

I am waiting for @optimumpro to release update with Jan-2021 ASP's. Then I plan to use it as my daily driver.
Currently I have it on my OP3 as a testbed, so can't really provide feedback on battery life. For my OP3/3T over the years average daily SOT has been around 2:30 to 3:30 hours upto & including Android 11.

Thanks for the reply.
But that sot seems quite short. Depending on the use you gave, ofc.
But with moderate use, I usually get around 4h.
@optimumpro
So your ROM seems to be build from MSM Xtended sources. There are improvements or advantages in your ROM over the original Xtended ROM?

I used AOSP sources, as well as Msm-Xtended, as well as DU, as well as Crdroid, but:
1. Art, Bionic, System/Vold, System/Security and most of /frameworks/base sources are different
2. Interface is different
3. Some blot removed
4. Several different apps
5. Kernel is different: I squashed about 20 commits (hardening) in one
6. Blobs are different
7. My rom can disable (with a toggle) Captive portal apk, which is spyware. Otherwise, if you uninstall it, you'll have a nasty 'X' in wifi and some sites may not work
8. Acknowledgement of receipt of type zero SMS is disabled. This is is the first thing hackers do - ping your phone with an sms that doesn't appear on screen... .
But ultimately, only you can decide which rom to use.
@optimumpro
My post was not to offend you. Thanks for the explanation and clarification. Your points make sense and they are great and important plus over the other ROMs. This should me mentioned in the OP.
I know that asking for ETA is not welcome on XDA. But one more question concerning updates. What are your plans for that. Your ROM has security in focus. Do you think building monthly updates for Android Security Bulletin?
I don't switch ROMs very often, cos I'm to lazy for this. So when switching to a new ROM I'll like to stick on it for a long time.

Usually, once a month. However, this rom is version 1, so, there might be more updates. Definitely, one with January security patches in a few days.
January 8: New release, V2.0
1. January security patches
2. Rom rebuilt with speed flag. As a result, it is larger in size, but should be speedier, because there is less runtime compiling involved
Dirty flash is fine on top of V-1. Download in post #3.

No. - I am using the latest version of TWRP - twrp-3.5.0_9-0-oneplus3
Great to see this hardened flavour of 11 which can even be used with locked bootloader @optimumpro !
As I understand you will have monthly updates also which is great to keep our phone up to date.
One question though; is it possible to use /data/local/userinit.sh scripts with this rom?
Would be a great option to do some system settings without the need of Magisk or other stuff.

Question Custom Rom?

I'm a new user of this phone, and i curious about normally when will this phone gets custom roms?
Depends if a dev is getting the phone normally... For the mi 11 pro/ultra there was a fundraiser.. after phone was bought... It took a few months, also due to source release off Xiaomi. But FUXI is wat more easy i guess.. so i think custom will come here fairly fast

There is already not a single rom for the 12 pro 8 Gen1 while the kernel dates from December 2021.
In my opinion several obstacles, incomplete Kernel ***, the completely new fingerprint part ***, the soc, price.
(***confirmed by developers).

You mean xiaomi made it extremely hard to make custom roms due to nearly impossible to aosp software to control the hardware ? Or am i getting it way off

Maybe it's the soc, for devices over a year old brands like One Plus or Samsung no AOSP rom too.
Xiaomi 12 (cupid) with 8 gen 1 has stable LOS. Fingerprint and SOC seems to be no problem. I guess, as soon as an good developer wants a custom rom for that phone, it will be a process less then 3 Month to stable. RN I use the 12X and on december a good dev got the phone and now we have a pretty good and stable base!

the two newest releases are for davinci (K20) and not cupid.
Users going to that github should be aware. The third file is for cupid but it's vanilla without GMS.

It seems to me that it's written big enough not to be wrong and Vanilla has always been without gapps.

Flash gapps. Los is always vanilla. And the latest release for cupid is built this month and it's stable. This is the best possible situation!

Not always; the particular dev can bundle GMS with one of the versions of their implementation.

I'm so waiting for this too! You cant imagine how disappointed I am with Xiaomi's UI both visually and functionally, not to mention some of its stupid restrictions. Today I've succesfully unlocked BL and flashed xiaomi.eu wich fixes some of the annoyances, but I definitely think a more pure version of android would suite that device better.
